Hi,
I have a Mytouch 3g Slide. I tried to root it with the following steps.
Download the Slide Root zip file @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=702973
On your device, navigate to Settings, select Application then Development and make sure you turn on USB Debugging
Turn off your myTouch 3G Slide
Extract the content of the zip file you downloaded to your Android SDK Tools folder on your computer
Open up a command prompt window and navigate to your SDK Tools directory
Boot your myTouch 3G Slide in bootloader mode: turn it on and press and hold Volume Down and Power
From your command prompt execute loop.bat to start a loop on your computer
Now on your myTouch 3G Slide pick Recovery from the bootloader menu
The recovery should load and you should now have an Offline Device.
Stop the loop on your computer (CTRL+C will do it)
Disconnect the USB cable from your device and plug it back in
adb should detect your device now, test it and make sure it is in recovery mode
From the menu on your device, pick update.zip. It will fail and that is normal.
Now back to your computer type: adb push ota.zip /sdcard/update.zip
Then type: adb push slideroot.zip
Now type: adb push update.zip /sdcard BUT DON’T PRESS ENTER YET.
Back to your myTouch 3G Slide, select update.zip again.
As soon as the process starts press Enter on your computer to start the adb command (adb push update.zip /sdcard )
You should now see Clockwork Recovery on your device.
Go to the Partitions menu and select Mount System
Go back then pick install any zip from sdcard
Make sure you select slideroot.zip and pick apply update from zip to complete the root process
Soft reset your device.
If you want to check if your device is connected use the command adb devices and you will see it in the list of devices attached
Again from the command prompt type: adb install Superuser.apk
Once Superuser is installed use adb shell to shell to your device.
Type su to gain root access.

Only problem is that when the phone is in recovery mode, I cannot run an ADB command because I get an error saying the phone is offline then. How can I make this work. I've been trying for hours now and its pretty frustrating.
nexus s i9023 with ics offical rom rooted and unlocked but power button suddenly stopped working so i flashed a jb volume wake zip to enable this feature but it gave me a bootloop now i cant even recover because of the power button i managed to get in the fastboot mode by putting the battery and quickly press volume up but in fastboot the device is not even detected by the usb (original) i have sdk and usb drivers but the problem is i put my phone in usb its like ive put a potato nothing happens and the sentences usb control init and usb control init end have disappeared in fastboot mode so i cant send commands to the phone through adb is there a way to make my phone detectable although when my phone is in the bootloop process its detected by the computer normally but no response of course.
THANKS in ADVANCE

I will try it now! If this works, then you are superman for me :good:
Edit:
1. should I type "adb shell second line [email protected]:/ #" after the new path is set and press enter?
2. if I do it, i always get the message "the command mount is wrong or can not be found"

Was much easier for me, don´t know why.
Solution for me:
1. Turn device into Bootloop
2. Connect it via USB (PC founds it)
3. type in CMD "adb reboot recovery"
4. device is in recovery
Requirement is a working Android-SDK.

Hello People of the internet!
Today I will show a quick guide on how to root the ZTE Z998 Mustang phone!
The owner of this method has discontinued work with them so I'll go ahead and pass them on.
I DO NOT TAKE ANY CREDIT AT ALL!!!!!!! ALL CREDIT GOES TO stedman420!!!!!
Original Thread: http://unleashedprepaids.com/thread-8769.html
***REQUIREMENTS***
An AT&T ZTE Mustang Z998
A computer with ADB and Fastboot installed
**HERE'S A COUPLE GUIDES FOR QUICK AND EASY INSTALLATION OF ADB AND FASTBOOT IF NEEDED.**
*WINDOWS*(do not use this to install drivers though)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
*LINUX or MAC*
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2638673
**WARNING FOR MAC USERS**
Safari browser settings may need to be changed in order to download zip files without extracting them.
**WARNING FOR WINDOWS USERS**
If using Windows you will also need to install the phones drivers and due to issues with fastboot drivers koush's universal driver is recommended.
http://www.koushikdutta.com/post/universal-adb-driver
**DO NOT CONTINUE TO THE INSTRUCTIONS UNTIL THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS ARE MET OR THE FOLLOWING WILL MOST LIKELY NOT WORK**
(All downloads will be below)
***INSTRUCTIONS***
1.) Download z998-cwm-recovery.img and place it ON YOUR COMPUTER preferably somewhere easy to remember (i.e. C:\ on windows or home directory on linux)
2.) Download one of the following zips and place it ON YOUR PHONES SDCARD
----SuperSU_v1.86-Z998.zip (only for rooting)
----Unofficial_CWM_Recovery_v6.0.3.7.zip (only for flashing custom recovery)
----Root_and_CWM_Recovery.zip (for both rooting and flashing custom recovery)
----Stock_Z998_Recovery.zip (only for restoring stock recovery)
3.) Plug your phone into computer and make sure Developer options and usb debugging is turned on in the phones settings menu
4.) Now open a terminal(or cmd.exe) on your computer and type
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
then press enter
5.) Once the phone vibrates you should be in fastboot mode. The phone will have a blank screen and the red light will be on.
6.) Now in your computers terminal type
Code:
fastboot boot z998-cwm-recovery.img
then press enter
7.) Your phone should now boot into cwm recovery. Once in recovery volume buttons will scroll up/down and the power button will select options
8.) Now on your phone scroll to and select install zip from sdcard and then find and install the root and/or recovery zip you downloaded in step 2
9.) After installation is complete you can unplug your phone from computer and as always make sure to MAKE A BACKUP using cwm recovery. Then just reboot to system and enjoy
***HELPFUL NOTES***
If you did not put the z998-cwm-recovery.img in your home directory or in your C:\ directory for windows then in step 6 where it says
Code:
fastboot boot z998-cwm-recovery.img
you will need to put in your exact file path to where the z998-cwm-recovery.img is on your computer
For example
Code:
fasboot boot C:\your\path\to\z998-cwm-recovery.img
Where C:\your\path\to\ would be the exact filepath to the z998-cwm-recovery.img on your computer
If using a Mac and you did not follow the guide posted above for setting up adb and fastboot you most likely will need to put ./ in front of your adb and fastboot commands
For example
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Would be
Code:
./adb reboot bootloader
AND
Code:
fastboot boot z998-cwm-recovery.img
Would be
Code:
./fastboot boot z998-cwm-recovery.img
Also the no file_contexts error in cwm recovery can safely be ignored.
***BONUS QUICK TIPS***
**HOW TO MANUALLY BOOT PHONE INTO RECOVERY**
1.) Power phone off
2.) Press and hold volume up, and power button at the same time until your phone boots into recovery
3.) Once in recovery volume buttons scroll and power button will select options.
**HOW TO MANUALLY FLASH STOCK RECOVERY USING A ROOTED PHONE**
1.) Download z998-stock-recovery.img and place it on the root of your phones sdcard (on your sdcard not in any folders)
2.) Download and install Android Terminal Emulator from PlayStore on your phone if you have not already
3.) Open terminal emulator and type
Code:
su
then press enter
4.) Type
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/z998-stock-recovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
then press enter

Ok here is How its Done - Simple. U Need
(Drivers)
1: LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981MAN38AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.8.1(0)_2.2
(Link) https://app.box.com/s/xl6ayc3az2svqgcjgj3sdwvyf2hep4k3
2: Root.Zip
(Link) https://app.box.com/s/qn16zoqedbilyouughqv8bafzg72ygh0
I have made a zip with everything you will need
Step 1.) Enable Developer Options by tapping build number Settings> About Phone> Software Information
until you are presented with "You are now a developer"
In Developer Options enable USB Debugging
(Enable PTP for debugging to work) as opposed to MTP or Simple Charging
Step 2.) Open a command prompt in the (UNZIPPED root folder) copy and paste the commands one by one
adb.exe push lg_root.sh /data/local/tmp/
adb.exe push busybox /data/local/tmp/
adb.exe push UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip /data/local/tmp/
Step 3.) Put your device in download mode
(while powered off hold volume up and plug in usb until download mode is shown)
In command prompt in the (UNZIPPED root folder) run the below command
(To find which COM port your device is under open device manager and click ports and your device port is listed under the drop down menu)
Send_Command.exe \\.\COM5
Step 4.) After running this command on the correct COM port you will be presented with a root shell # symbol
(In the root shell execute the below command via copy+paste)
sh /data/local/tmp/lg_root.sh dummy 1 /data/local/tmp/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip /data/local/tmp/busybox
You should see something happening and not a return of a blank command. Once it's finished pull the battery and boot up your device is rooted
After that download Root Checker Basic from the Playstore and check root and Enjoy, I'm passing this Info on from another source, I am not taking credit. Credit I guess goes to
Unjustified Dev
This root method works on every LG device to date and many are going to be questioning where it came from so you also need to include the link like I did in my original post so they can take a look at the original guide and know it's origin. You could also change the thread to LG root method for some devices or some sort since it has worked on every device so far even the G3 and various other ones

Recently, I successfully ported TWRP from Coolpad Note 3 Lite to Modena 2. After testing, everything works fine, on both devices. Since this device has locked bootloader, we need to bypass this by enabling fastmmi mode and factory mode to enable temporary root access and make initial backup and flashing. So, let´s get started.
Remember to read this post carefully. I am not resposible for any damage to your device. If you brick your device while flashing the TWRP you can *almost* always recover it using SP Flash Tool and YGDP Tool
IF YOU ACCIDENTALY BRICK YOUR DEVICE AND YOU WANT TO FLASH IT VIA SPFT, DO NOT FORMAT THE DEVICE IN SPFT!!! If you´ll format partitions in TWRP, that´s fine, but don´t do FORMAT ALL + DOWNLOAD or FIRMWARE UPGRADE! This will brick your device, like mine This tutorial will not (hopefully) brick it, but just in case something goes wrong, now you know what not to do.
Preparing the environment on your computer
Windows
Download ADB and Fastboot from this link
Open it
Install it system-wide
Also, install the drivers
GNU/Linux (Ubuntu / Debian based distros)
Open terminal
Type "sudo apt install adb fastboot libusb-dev" without the quotes (")
Other things, that are required
Since the file size of the recovery exceeds the maximum 8MB of allowed upload size, you can download it from DataFileHost.
Preparing the device
First, you need to remeber that this could render your device unbootable and will void warranty.
Enable developer options
Go to Settings -> About phone
Tap the build number 7 times
Go back
Go to Developer options
Make sure OEM unlocking and USB Debugging is enabled
Enabling factory mode
Open dialer app
Dial *#9527*#
Click on "DM"
You will be prompted to insert RD personnel password. Enter: 54321
Click cancel button
DM button should change colour to RED
Exit the app by clicking home button
Installing and setting up openrp app
Open terminal / command prompt
Type:
Code:
adb start-server
Type:
Code:
adb devices
Now, click on your phone allow debugging and make sure to tick the radiobutton to remember / always trust this computer
Type:
Code:
adb install
Press spacebar after the install word and drag and drop the downloaded openrp.apk file to terminal
Hit enter
After it´s done, type:
Code:
adb shell monkey -p com.yulong.openrp -v 500
Now, the fun part. ROOTING the device
But before that, BACKUP
Now, keep your phone plugged in, and do a normal reboot by pressing and holding the power button and clicking reboot
When it vibrates, press and hold the Volume down key (Vol-)
You will see these lines on the screen:
Code:
=>[Factory mode]
Code:
=>VolumeDown key is pressed
Code:
=>[fastmmi mode]
After that, you´ll see the LED turns green and "Up Down" text on the screen
Now, back to your computer, type in the command prompt
Code:
adb devices
You should see XXXXXXXXXXXXXX device listed (where XXXX... is the serial number)
Type in the command prompt:
Code:
adb shell dd if=/dev/block/platform/mtk-msdc.0/11230000.msdc0/by-name/recovery of=/storage/self/primary/stock_recovery.img
and
Code:
adb shell dd if=/dev/block/platform/mtk-msdc.0/11230000.msdc0/by-name/boot of=/storage/self/primary/stock_bootimg.img
Flashing the TWRP Image
Type in the command prompt:
Code:
adb push (drag and drop the recovery image file here, like you did with the openrp.apk file) /storage/self/primary/
Type:
Code:
adb reboot
Press and hold VolumeDown key (Vol-) to boot to fastmmi mode
Type:
Code:
adb shell dd if=/storage/self/primary/recovery_twrp_e502.img of=/dev/block/platform/mtk-msdc.0/11230000.msdc0/by-name/recovery
Type
Code:
adb reboot
Press and hold the VolumeUp key (Vol+) to boot into recovery. If you see white screen with "Recovery" text in it, congrats. Everything is working. If not, try again.
Flashing the SuperSU package
Download the zip from SuperSU website
Copy the zip over to the device, with TWRP running
In TWRP, click install, click the zip and confirm the installation.
Factory reset is not required, but you should at least wipe the cache
If this post was useful for you, hit the thanks button

Hi i have a problem here. at the part to drag and drop the openrp file. When i have downloaded the file a drag it and drop it after the install word. The problem is that if I want to drop it there it will do nothing, nothing there shows or anything. Please respond.
I guess you can type the path to the installation file instead of dragging.
Hello,
Very helpful thread, my coolpad Modena 2 (E502) is now rooted.
Don't forget to disable the factory mode once everything is done, or you won't be able to access the storage to usb anymore.
Thanks.
helo, can i get help, when i try to install openrp on abd and fastboot, it printed this message "Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_SHARED_USER_INCOMPATIBLE]"
can anyone help me on that step, so i can root my e502

Hello,
If I recall correctly (I don't have the phone anymore, just touched it once to root it at the time), you basically undo the "Enabling factory mode" step.
I think if you dial the number, you'll be back in the menu where you have the option to disable the factory mode.
Factory mode should be disabled when 'DM' is green.
Good luck
very good
Need Custom rom please

Hello, could you resend the twrp recovery file for this phone again?. old links not work!.
