[Q] After Root, Phone Won't Sleep - First Time Root - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey everyone, just rooted and unlocked for AOKP for my first time. Firstly the mod is great and I'll likely never go back to stock Touch Wiz, but my problem so far is that I can't figure out what is intermittently waking up my phone and preventing it from sleeping. Before the root and using the same minimal amount of apps my battery life was outstanding and the battery history details showed that it was not waking up when idle. Any input? Thanks in advance.

Search the forums for the free XDA version of Better Battery Stats. Install this app and select partial wakelocks from the drop down. This should give you some insight into what is causing the wakelocks.

Let apps access data when it's turned off?

Hi guys,
I'm sorry if there's a thread about this but I don't even know what keywords to search. Since the Atrix has such brutal battery life I'm wondering something. Is it possible to turn my wifi and data off but have some apps override that? I use whatsapp messenger and would like to allow it to access data so I can still receive messages. Possible or not?

It's not quite what you asked, but Juicedefender will automatically disable all your data, and temporarily re-enable it in user-defined intervals to let your apps update.

Whoa whoa, how does that work? Make sure you figure out what is holding wakelocks and hammering the CPU, that's the quickest way to fix it, the Atrix should have one of the best battery lives of any smartphone.

I don't know much about this kind of stuff, so don't really know how to go about that. Was getting about 6-8 hours with minimal usage so I installed a new kernel and it seems a bit better. I've seen some people report 1.5 -3 days of battery life but I've never cleared more than 10 hours probably.

If on Froyo: in dialer: *#*#4636#*#* should take you to a menu, go to the Battery History application and look at the running vs. screen on percentage. If you stay in high signal areas most of the time and you don't do anything that holds wakelock intentionally (playing music, non-C2DM IM clients), then you should only see about another 2-3 percent tacked onto the screen on time for your total phone awake percentage. If not, look up the partial wakelock since unplugged and check to see what's holding wakelock. If Android OS, reboot your phone liberally. If it's the dialer, same deal. If it's a user-installed application, either figure out how to get it to stop or delete it.
From there install current widgets or something that read your mA drain and ensure it doesn't jump above 10 mA while idle.
Also make sure you use that dialer code to see if you can switch your phone's radio to GSM Auto (PRL) for better battery life in poor signal areas.

Who is wasting my battery?

When I'm sleeping, my phone (HTC Sensation with Hypernonsense, but it's irrellevant because it has worked for a lot of time) drops the battery in a 20% in 7 hours.
So I'm looking for an app which tells me which program is wasting my battery. I know there is a Config>something>Battery, but It only shows me "Screen, Wifi, calls, waiting" or something like this, not the aplications.
Thank you,
Go setting, about phone, and then battery usage

Yes, I know, but Settings>About>Battery does not show the processes. Just "Display, Cell standby, Phone idle & Wi-fi"
Something is preventing your phone from sleeping. Install BetterBatteryStats and find out what's keeping your phone awake. The dev has a thread here. Search for it and read it. There's a lot of use full info in it.

Is this normal?

I have android ics 4.0.4 on my i9020a and battery had been pretty bad... so I went to battery setting to see what's draining my battery and Android system was taking around 40% of my battery... is this normal? I though battery issue was fixed, was it not? I am not rooted, so is there any way to fix this? I would love to post a screenshot but doesn't work for me for some reason...

Do you update your Nexus manually or via OTA? As I know, the update of 4.0.4, at first, came to 9020T and 9023 ,and then, came tu Nexus S 4G but not to 9020A! If I'm wrong, correct me please.
Regards,
Urko
PS: Can anyone thanks me? I can't release my Rom on the Dev section because I don't have 10 posts thanked! Ahh and the post was made a little bit with Google Traductor, I'm 16 years old.. xD Sorry
i imagine something is keeping your ns from sleeping;
google talk camera bug might be the culprit.

After some more playing today, the bluetooth radio power issue seems to be just a small rounding error on whatever else is going on.
There's an issue with Google Talk where it opens the camera at boot and the phone never goes into deep sleep again; has anyone else on this thread tried opening and closing the camera after a reboot, *then* see if CPUSpy says deep sleep is being entered? On my i9020a with CM9 a11, the camera trick allows me to start entering deep sleep ... still measuring to see how much that really helps. It would sure be nice if this was just an app bug!"

Hold the power button and vol. down button to take a screenshot. We need these screenshots at any attempt to help you.
You could also install BetterBatteryStats (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809) to see if any app is producing a WAKELOCK. (i.e. not letting your phone enter sleep.)

HTC One XL Battery Drain

Alright guys, I've pretty much had it with this phone and AT&T. This is the 4th issue I've had on my phone. Basically, my battery dies within 3 hours no matter what I do. I turned off all connectivity in class this morning and put it in my pocket at 90%, 2 hours later it was at 29% with "Google Services" as the main cause of the drain. I thought it was weird because my internet was still off. This is my third One XL due to numerous problems in the hardware, at this point I just want a totally different phone which I know they'll offer me. But I'd rather get a Nexus 4 or try to hold out for the Nexus 5. Any ideas on what I can do to maybe temporarily fix it until October?

Is this phone bootloader unlocked/rooted? are you using a custom ROM? If so, which one?
If it is unlocked/rooted, also please indicate if your phone is S-ON or S-OFF

Forgot about adding that in. My phone is completely stock, bootloader locked, and S-ON on 3.18.
Install better battery stats to see what is keeping your from from deep sleeping because it sounds like you have a really bad wake lock. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809

Thanks! I'll let my phone recharge up and try to replicate the issue to see what's causing it and I'll see where to go from there.
Try uninstalling all your apps, keeping only the necessities. If you went through 3 phones already, the problem is probably you, not the phone itself.
I get this sometimes, I usually fix it by uninstalling updates to play store and deleting app data from play services and play store and the app that battery usage says is the problem. Then reboot.
There's probably an easier way to fix it but I haven't found it.

I would ruu. And install gsam right away. Then I would monitor battery drain over a day or two. If gsam reports no wakelocks but it keeps draining quickly, it's a hardware issue. If it's not draining quickly any more, install a few apps a day until you find the draining culprit.

Apparently there was an error with sync that kept my phone awake while it tried to finish it. A reboot and refreshing the sync seems to have done the trick. Thanks guys! I'm still jumping ship when/if the nexus 5 is released.

HORRIBLE battery life after November 16 update.

Hey all
I have a Sprint Galaxy S 6 that I just updated with an update that claimed to be to improve "battery drain".
It is losing 13% in a half hour without using the phone.
I have no apps running.
I go to settings and it seems that Google Play services is always the one that uses most of the battery.
I never got great battery life but this update seemed to make it worse.
Am I missing something big???
Any advise would be appreciated.

Probably your phone won't go into deepsleep. This is caused by wakelocks and alarms. You can fix this by rooting your phone and install powernap or factory resetting your phone & start all over again.

I would rather not root my phone... I did it with my last three phones and was more trouble than it was worth for me. The phone has all of the features that I like and I don't have a need to flash ROMS.
Any other suggestions?

In that case factory reset your phone, this will delete all of your apps and data so also the wakelocks and alarms. From then your phone will go into deepsleep and you won't lose so much juice when you don't use the phone
Hi, I'm also having battery life issues. I've factory formatted from recovery menu, but I still get battery issues. I charge my phone about 3 times a day and I don't have any significant drain according to the battery usage settings.

The same here. I have everything okay according to battery stats. But I lose like 5-8% an hour when screen doesn't work. Don't know what to do.
I basically surf the net and use WhatsApp. By early afternoon, I'm down to 60% battery. I unplug my charger at 6am everyday.

I'm curious if you have cell satndby being used constantly, as that is my problem.
