[rom]cm10_unofficial_pre-alpha_test - Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE

Update 12/31/2012 CM10.1
Thanks to Exxodium for swapping devices with me. I got the Photon-Q yesterday and have had a little time to work with it. Last night I built an insecure kernel so I could have adb as root. Moments ago, after losing all my junk and all the stuff that has happened in the last month, I built CM10 with inline kernel. Skip to the good stuff. I was able to get a partial boot; enough to get a logcat and last_kmsg to do some debugging. I will not be posting any links until I have a fully booting device, and even then not before I have some private testing done. Stay tuned. Cheers and out!

The link to the flashable.zip doesnt seem to be working
edit it works just have to remove the second http: from the link there

That's what I assumed but I'll still fix it as soon as I get home. Thanks.

Definitely going to try this after I recharge.
Edit: tried the flashable. It failed in twrp. Maybe the download wasn't complete?
Edit part 2: re-downloading.. Gonna try again.
Edit part 3: re download did not work. Still failed. Anyone else?
Edit part 4: tried fastboot

sending 'system' (187108 KB)... OKAY [ 87.646s]

didnt give a error on install just aborted but did notice when you just try and extract the file it gives error saying file is already there like 5 times
in folder
system\etc\terminfo\

Alright lads, head on to the new link and give it some welly! I rebuilt the system with changes to the vendor side, fixed the install script and a few other jelly rolls. Let me know what happens.

Using this link :
Gives format() expects 5 arguments, got 4.
E:Error in /sdcard/cm-10-(etc etc) (Status 7).

UPDATE
Ok, I fixed a few things so the ROM should flash properly. Remember to wipe properly or you'll get a rash. Cheers!

Didn't work for me
I tried flashing it this morning and all I got was some looping flickers, Never even a moto logo... So not sure.

I've done a couple builds that have not been posted in this thread, for private testing. I am doing my best, but without testers committed to helping me fix this, it won't be me who puts out CM10. I'm working with arrrghh and lmartin but they are only on a limited amount of time. No one is giving me logs, kmsg, dmesg etc, and if that doesn't happen, all I can do is guess. If you are interested in testing, I am committed to getting CM10 out for this device.

IIRC, I couldn't get adb up on your build... So I was unable to pull logs.
I did provide you a last_kmsg, but that's about all I could do without adb.
I kinda wish I knew more about how to fit the pieces of CM together better, as I think CM9 would be done if I did

Updated OP. I think it's still gonna boot loop, and if so please try adb. If adb works please try and get a logcat or dmesg. If you need help getting adb setup, need to know the commands to use adb, or have any other questions, please chat with me on IRC. Good luck.

I didn't have any luck getting adb to recognize the 10-08 build. Installed and booted past boot logo, then looped between black screen & screen off.

Thank you. Check back tonight for a new build, if you would.
Does it boot into recovery? Would you mind testing some kernels on IRC later tonight?

Updated the OP with a new attempt. Following newer CM "lets have everything in common that's common" there is a bit more merging in the code base. While this means nothing to the end user in general it means that IF this get working properly it will more likely get to be official. That is significant. Official means more people get to enjoy it served up from a nice list of perfectly good links from an organized website. As an end user myself, that excites me. So, here's to hoping the stupid thing boots because as humiliating as this is, I think quitting now would be even worse.
1. Make a backup
2. Flash the zip in recovery.
3. WIN or LOSE!
4. Let me know what happened with as much detail as possible.
5. I'm going to get some sleep now maybe.

Started updating system in cwm and went to complete in a short period of time. Seems to be an early fail in the system upgrade. Wish I had more input but, seems to be an extremely quick process I'll time it, if it will help your prognosis? Please give me another shot!
Thx for all your hard work!
Here is the feedback from my friend:
Cannot boot to android, just hang there. n there is an error when doing the cwm restore.
ok, so just to understand it well, does the rom install without any trouble in CWN ? it's not clear to me if it works in your comments
then, if it's early fail, i've to work on kernel config and boot.img.
can you give a try to put another boot.img, it should not do the trick but .. let's say either the a510's original, the pawtip's a700 or the frankenrom 's one.
it's really not a comfortable situation as i'd like to test it and try to have something running, but without tab, you're my alpha-testers :/
Will try tonight...

just in addition,
can you check if adb can connect (let a adb wait-for-device or adb logcat runnning on cold boot)

As far as I can recall it was the same for me. My impression was that the install was very quick but I didn't really look for an error message or such. I might try again tonight. I did have a problem restoring my backup to get up and running again, this took three tries.

CWM did not error for me, I'm positive. Just quick system update and hung on boot. I'll get a log tonite and post it up if no one beats me to it.

No, it stuck on boot. I must have misunderstood you, I thought you(r friend) had an error msg in CWM.
I've been working on CM10 as well, but it's been a pain in the *$$
Are you using a pre built kernel or are you compiling source?
i'm compiling it
but i'd some difficulties to find what tricks might apply when compiling kernel for JB, as opposite to ICS.. did not find the difference tht might apply.
the only thing was that some jar frameworks might have to be listed twice, for CM10
i'll dig that once something boot
check out OP, new build online
feedbacks welcome
If you're coming off a different rom, make sure you're doing your full wipes before installing. You gotta clean the old data off first.

[Q] Strange bootloop issues

Kinda new to this so forgive me if i miss something somewhere and if i need to give more information somewhere just let me know.
With that out of the way I'd like to start with the fact that this is my first rooted device. Currently on C-spire (cellular south) if that matters.
A few days ago before the phone was rooted or even unlocked i went to make a phone call and the screen blacked out and a few seconds later went into a reboot loop where it would get to the Motorola Logo for about 6 seconds or so then shut off and try again ad nauseam until the battery died. After letting the battery die and connecting it to the charger it continued the loop so after a quick gogle search I began fiddling with buttons and realized i could boot into fastboot and recovery modes. I decided i might as well root since it couldnt get a whole lot worse and after a quick look around the forums and a trip to motorola to unlock my phone i was able to flash TWRP recovery, after which i accidentaly wiped the os, managed to find any number of replacement roms none of which solved the boot issue. I eventually found the stock Sprint roms which allowed the phone to boot and work for the most part, but it wont send media messages and has trouble picking up 4g service. I am also forced into using the sprint updater among other things which include having sprint plastered everywhere I have tried flashing several custom roms (pacman, paranoidandroid, and cyanogen) all of which get hung up booting just like the phone did before but the sprint stock rom will reload and work just as before. I'm not sure what would be causing this or if there is a way to fix it and i apologize for the wall of text. If any more info is needed let me know and ill provide ot to the best of my knowledge. Thanks in advance :fingers-crossed:
So all ROM's fail to boot?
Are you doing a factory reset in TWRP before you boot?
Are you flashing gapps? Although that shouldn't cause the phone to fail at booting...
Correct. All roms except the stock sprint rom fail to boot.
Now that i have everything backed up on my external sd I've tried factory reset using twrp as well as wiping everything prior to flashing a ROM as well as after but
Before booting. And the many combinations thereof
And yes i am flashing gapps.
You don't get any errors when it flashes?
Did you check the md5sums?
I flash around a lot, and just got another Q - latest ROM's are not a problem here.

Every ROM should include a md5sum with it. If you're on Windoze, use a program like WinMD5 - check the md5sum locally, and compare it to what is on the server. If they match, the download is probably good.
So after checking the pacman rom matched up (it's the most recent one I've tried), the cyanogen didnt
but i recently redownloaded it and its better now (haven't tried flashing yet), and I can't seem to find the MD5sum for
the paranoid android rom on here.
Anything else i should try?

The PA build I think is "blind", I don't know if anyone has tried it - additionally, the individual who built it does not own this device... So it's double blind? Haha
The CyanogenMod ROM's, however, are official and work great - many others have confirmed this.
If you had a bad download, that would explain it.

I tried flashing the good download this morning, it hung up just like the others.
I get the bootloader unlocked screen then it'll show the cyanogen logo for roughly 24 seconds the first time before hanging up,
after which it reboots to the bootloader unlocked screen, but when it gets to the cyanogen logo each time gets subsequently shorter between hangups...
Any ideas?

I suppose some sort of hardware issue. Like I said, I've flashed most of the newest ROM's here for the Q - all work fine. Hell, some I even ported myself...
I'm kind of at a loss. Can you get adb? Not even sure what to check for next... if you are wiping properly in recovery, that should be sufficient.
Hm, I guess that brings up a good point. Have you tried wiping system, flashing, doing a factory reset, then booting? Most, if not all of the ROM's should wipe /system before flashing... So it probably won't do anything different.

Yes, /proc/last_kmsg would work as well.
Though there's a scenario were it wouldn't be the same - if the user would miss the right time to hold 'volume up' (to get to the recovery after crash) and pressed "power+volume down" to force reboot and try to enter recovery again. In such case, /proc/last_kmsg would not contain the panic from previous boot, the panic would be only in /data/dontpanic/apanic_console.
/proc/last_kmsg - log from the last boot
/data/dontpanic/apanic_console - log from the last crashed boot

[Q] It's been 4 days and I still can't fix this bootloop!

Okay I had an L rom for about a month maybe less. Then Friday night, it just turns off and now all I see is flying colors.
In the ask any question thread I asked and some really awesome dudes were trying to help me but all of their solutions were in vain.
I used method 1 and 2 of the return to stock.
I made sure I followed EVERY step. Still nothing, it's been trying to boot for far far too long.
I really need my phone, and I'm not sure what else to do. I can't jump because I'm broke and that tamper flag is up.
Can someone help me? I have teamveiwer if it helps.
Also I should say I get several errors I think, like no recovery.sig or boot.sig when I clearly just flashed them.
Why do I get these errors? Is nobody else having the same problem as me? I'm getting really frustrated and to anyone who helps me solve my problem will get my oatmeal raisin cookie recipe (Not kidding, that's serious).
Please somebody help me. Ill be constantly refreshing this page so if you have any questions I will answer them.
Have you booted into the bootloader and used a Google bat file to flash the device completely clean?

Yes
Follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513701
Download "15 second adb installer" if you're having issues with adb or fastboot commands
Ignore the .sig errors
Worst case scenario flash each file one by one if flash all.bat doesn't work
Post up what happens after you run flash all.bat too

I considered looking into a recovery build for this device. But, based on the lack of responses to this thread, I don't see enough interest to make it a worthwhile endeavor. I see several threads asking for a recovery, but no responses when someone builds a test???

Flashing a bad recovery is not really even a risk. I probably flashed 50 bad recoveries when trying to get the T210 recoveries working. As long as you have stock recovery image to re-flash (Odin) there really isn't any risk.

Set Warranty Bit : recovery
It wont let me go further then just seeing the "Samsung galaxy Tab 4" splash screen.

Okay, connect via adb and see if you can get logcat,
the hang means the kernel is good, but the fstab may be wrong, or i need to patch init and adb.
thanks,
m

Oops , okay skip that, okay this test is a fail you can refurn to stock and delete the custom,
i will mark test 1 as fail and take it down.

Rusell,
okay, round 2 if you're up for it,
ROUND 2 http://d-h.st/8U5f -modified default.prop, fstab temp test with prebuilt kernel and dt.img
the kernel should be msm8226, if this fails i will revisit my config and run a new build,
m
and if you are really feeling frisky, give this TWRP a try.

[ROM] Galaxy Light Testers wanted

evening all,
im looking for users with the galaxy light (t399 or t399n) who would be willing to help test some new roms and kernels and be part of helping develop builds from the ground up for the light, i do not have a galaxy light (and im not likely to get one over in the UK) buit i do have a similar but slightly higher specced device (galasy s5 mini) so i am trying to also dev for the light but i need some willing volunteers who dont mind trying out builds that may not work at first and who are able to try and get adb logs so i can fix errors etc.
anyone interested, would be starting with a 5.1.1 rom then moving on to 6.0 (cm13 probably) once 5.1 is usable
reply to this thread or drop me a pm if your interested
I've got a t399 I use as a backup device now, be glad to help out when I can.

Tried it a few times, can't get it to flash in twrp. Have 2.8.4 on the phone, it would just fail then tried flashing your 3.0 but that does not stay on for more than 30 seconds. Even turned the timeout off

This time for me it flashed but it was super quick. Like 5 seconds. When I went to reboot system twrp said no operating system installed. Hate to be the bearer of bad news once again

I probably need to mod the boot image to start adb only as if it sits at powered by Android I'll bet it's complaining about shared libs
