I have AVX on my Note (which, by the way, isn't working so great. It's pretty unusable. Others are using it, so I imagine I'm doing something wrong, but the settings aren't very intuitive, and I can't really figure out how to tweak it to make it recognize my voice better). Anyway, I have that and a couple of voices and what I'd really like to do is to have it read ebooks to me. Is that possible? Do I need a specific reader? Mostly, my ebooks are epub format, I believe, and I've been reading them with the Nook reader app for Android, as I came from a Nook Tablet, originally.
Thanks in advance.
I use Moon Reader+ and it can read the text out to you. Not sure if free version does that, but paid does.

If the books are in pdf format, ezpdf can read it out too.
Cool reader will read epub books but the voice is a cheap computer voice and I don't know if other voices are available.

Does anyone know the location of an eBook once you tell it to make it available offline?
Or
I've got some eBooks that I would like to make available to the Books app on the XOOM, where do I put them?
You beat me to it, I was just wondering the same. I have several thousand books I would like to be able to drop in.

It appears to be a proprietary book format, but I don't know enough about it for sure.
Each book is split up into many different files. I've transfered it to my computer to investigate it further, but I've had no luck.
I went looking when I first got the Xoom because I wanted to put my book collection in there.
Someone smarter than me will have to figure out how to do that!
The only alternative I've found so far is using Aldiko (ebook reader from the Market). You store the eBooks on the XOOM and import them into the app. I would prefer to use Google Books however.
That's incredibly frustrating. Even iBooks allows you to add your own epub. If Google Book a can't that's a huge setback for me. I read a couple hours a day on my tablet.

*BUMP* Anything new discovered? It sucks that we need another application and can't use the built in for reading ebooks. I love how books lets you turn pages.

The nook app has a very similar page turn animation and I think the app in general looks better on honeycomb than both kindle and google books. Maybe give that one a try!

Nook is only available to US users (and maybe certain other countries, but I'm not sure). People outside of US can't download nook. You have to find a way to sideload it to your Xoom if you are not in the US.
And Nook has problems displaying book covers from my own epubs. So I'm sticking to Kindle but converting to mobi format may be a hassle to some.
How did you manage to successfully import your mobi files to Kindle?
I have tried copying the files to the SD card location which makes them appear in the app but the app crashes when I try to open them. I have also tried opening them with the Kindle app from my file manager. Again, this was unsuccessful.
Thanks for your help in advance!
iReader?

have u guys tried iReader?
awesomely free!
I know its been awhile since this was last commented honest and maybe Google has updated Play Books since the last comments, regardless im pretty sure that it now doesnt matter where you get your digital content. Play Books will permit you to upload them and read across multiple devices. I have a fairly decent collection and i go back and forth between my Note III & Note VIII. If the book that you want to read isnt on the particular device that your using, Play Books downloads it. I have been unsuccessful in finding the default directory for the appand it was that very question that brought me to this post. :good:
I'm looking for an app that can read my epub books aloud.
I've tried this one ( https://market.android.com/details?id=v00032.com.wordplayer&feature=search_result ) but the voice is just plain text to speech; the voice is downright awful. Not only that, but there's no pause, and it only starts at the beginning of a chapter.
I know Moon+ also does it, but it's $5. Has anyone used the text to speech on it and can comment on how well it works? I'd love to hear how it sounds, but I haven't found any videos on YouTube etc of this feature being used. If the voice is just as bad as WordPlayer, I'd rather not waste the $5. And 15 minutes seems too hasty to test this out.
Is there any other way to have epub books read aloud via some Android app?
if yuor talking about that female sounding death voice then it's android itself that does it. I dunno if theres a way to change it.

Aye, just found the "SVOX" ones. But very very expensive....
Yes, SVOX Classic. Each language pack costs $3
But still you will not get a feel of audio books. The book reading app needs to incorporate some intelligence.

Is there a better way of having epub books read aloud via some Android app?
I feel I should tell people who do a lot of word, ppt, excel that the Polaris Office app that comes preinstalled on TF is much SUPERIOR to quickoffice hd pro that supposedly is designed for tablets. The words are mixed up and ppt sides that I use in my word documents don't show up clearly on quickoffice, but they run perfectly fine on Polaris, so don't rush into buying an office suite for your TF, because Polaris gets the job done well.
Thanks for passing that info on. One reason I want a TF over the Acer or Xoom is because it comes with that software.
hi there. have you guys have any idea how to insert an image (eg from my gallery) into an excel spreadsheet in the said app? There dont seem to be any option to do that. I even searched the Polaris website for help, but to no avail.
For everyone interested, I just this morning updated my Office Suite comparison over in the XOOM forum to include Polaris Office (PowerPoint only for now). The link is in my signature. I will update the Word and Excel comparison soon.
does Polaris office do multi-worksheet formulas/lookups in Excel?

That's a big negatory. All the pages are there but calcs between them do not work. Same issue with DTG. I have not tried quickoffice yet so I do not know if this feature works with it.
To confirm I'm talking about gdocs that I pull down, I have not created a spreadsheet from scratch to try the calc across sheets with PO.

Well that sucks...it's a pretty important feature.
I'm using it for work and it does work well. I wish you could create and save to dropbox folders then have them sync properly. Polaris needs to write to the dropbox api or dropbox needs to add support for file moves and creation to android.
I admit that I am not the best speller. Thus I wish there was spell and grammar check.

It will work at some point, for now I just combine multiple pages into one large page for stuff I have to view on the go.

Does anyone know how to "select" text in the Docs app? As stupid as this sounds, I haven't figured out how to do it yet.
Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

Open the document, go into Edit mode and then double-tap into the text. You'll see something like two pins enclosing selected text. Use the "Ribbon" to copy/cut/paste.
Thanks!

I still feel like an idiot, but now a happy idiot. Your technique works perfectly. Thanks!
One more question: Any idea how to change the page margins?

Not sure that's possible with any of the current apps. They are very limited in their functionality; the devs don't seem to expect tablet users to do serious work :-|

Thanks for responding. I edited my document on my desktop as a DOCX with half inch margins, then sent it to my TF, opened it and saved it as a DOC. That did the trick. From now on, that will be my template.

You're very welcome! All these questions are important for me too
Polaris would be great if I was able to paste text into the app that was copied from other apps. It looks as though this was possible prior to 3.1, but is broken now. That's a pretty big requirement for me.

Polaris is terrible if you use Google Docs.
QuickOffice is the ONLY application that will let you freely edit Google Doc spreadsheets as if you were on a PC.
Otherwise Polaris is a nice app, if you don't use Google Docs. At all.
Ok here I go.
Can anyone or has anyone developed an app for an android pad that inverts the colors.
Kind of like the option on iPhone/pad.
Really need this for reading web pages and PDF files.
I have a sight problem and it's the one thing that will solve many issues for me.
Here's hoping.
Jasper.
Ok lol. I guess that's a no.
I never saw something of this on android....

I know. Was just wondering if someone could make an app for it.
Pdf
Try EzPdf Reader, it has a night mode that inverts the colors.
Hello,
For PDF reading I suggest RepliGo Reader, also have an option to invert colour.
If you really need to reader an internet page using the inverted colour you can save the page to PDF using Firefox and read it with RepliGo Reader.
Best.
Great help guys.
I downloaded instafetch pro and it's perfect for reading web pages.
Will also try those PDF readers.
I love my a500 once again lol
The PDF readers are ideal.
Now does anyone know of any email clients that offer a night mode?
So i want to know what is the best pdf reader in market. One feature I really want is one available on the i pad. This feature is where you can make a 3 by 3 matrix for a total of 9 pages. The reason I want this i have college textbooks on my kfire and when I want to locate something fast I can scroll 9 pages at a time instead of one. Anyone know of such an app?
I use EzPDF Reader, and its really cool because if you click on 'RECENT' it allows you to see all your documents like in iBooks, then open a specific document and click on Thumbnail view,
Hope it helps,

I also use easy pdf reader. Got it from Amazon as the free app of the day a while back and it is the best I have used.
