[Q] Galaxy S3 Rooted Playstore problem!! HELP - General Questions and Answers

Yes, I'm a noob to this and somehow can never get things right. I like to flash different roms and see how I like them but only one ROM that I've flashed has came with Google Playstore loaded on it, enabling me to restore all my apps and download Titanium to restore the apps I backed up.
CERTAIN ROMS I FLASH ONLY HAVE THE STOCK APPS AND DOESN'T HAVE GOOGLE PLAYSTORE! HOW CAN I GET GOOGLE PLAYSTORE BACK ONTO THE DEVICE AFTER I FLASH THESE ROMS. For example, the Liquid JB-v2. Rom for ATT and most of the CM10 roms dont come with the playstore on it.
The only one that has is the MIUI rom and I'm stuck using it. I like to change it up a bit. Please help

Find and flash the Google Apps zip (also known as GApps) for your android version (example ICS, GB etc) Click here.....
www.goo.im/gapps/
Sent from somewhere....if I could only remember where....

Usually if you flash a rom that requires you to flash the GApps as well the OP for that rom should have install instructions which tell you if you need to or not and may have a link to download them as well.

Just Rooted

So I just rooted my phone today and I was wondering what are the next steps that I should take. Should I make a recovery file just in case my system crashes? If so, how would I do that? Secondly, do I have to flash a ROM to my rooted phone or may I just keep the stock version? If I decide to keep my stock version, would updates still happen automatically or would I have to unroot and then update? As you can see, I'm a noob at this.
well it seems that you've nearly got the hang of the rom manager so that's your backup problem solved, but it's not a good idea to backup your unrooted stock rom as when there is an over the air update it will reflash your rom to a rooted version
I would boot into recovery, probably Clockworkmod and do a backup. Then download Rom Manager or search the web for Roms and play around and see what one works best for you. I would leave kernels and radios alone for now until you play with flashing roms.
So I did a backup through rom manager lite version. I was thinking of flashing bb.01 but can I do that through rom manager, despite the fact that I have the free version? Also, when I wipe cache and data, I would lose my contact info right? So how would I recover my contacts after I install BuglessBeast? lastly, is it safe to flash a rom through the free version of rom manager because I had several attempts using backup ability on rom manager before it finally made a backup.

Rom Manager Error Processing

Hi,
Phone Info:
Rooted G2x running 2.3.3/2.3.4(CM7)
Well, heres when my problems started:
1. I had CM7 running perfectly with a Faux123 Kernel(UV/OC) and then...bc of the random batter change problems i wanted to swicth to Trinity Kernel by Morfic. When i first flashed the Faux123 Kernel, it didnt wipe my entire phone but on the trinity one it seemed like a whole new ROM!!! It wiped my phone and was a new rom. Unfortuneatly i didnt do a Nandroid backup of my CM7 but i did do it for my Rooted Stock. BUT the problem is now that I go back to the Rooted Stock, Rom manager DOESNT flash CM7 again. I tried redownloading, downloading the freeversion, redownloading the ROM but no solution!!
Yes, i know that you can flash with ClockWorkRecovery Mod but the Google Apps dont come!! On another note i flashed CM7 like this and then Titanium BACKUP was force closing on me after few seconds of trying to restore data/apps!!
So i guess my real problem is that:
1. Rom Manager does not flashanything ever since my Trinity Mishap
2. Even if i do the flash through recovery manually(Install Zip from SD card) then no Google Apps show up....but if i get the Market from 4shared then it doesnt let me add an account !!!
3. this is a followup to Problem 3...if i download the Google Apps Zip from online do i just "flash" it with CWM just like i did the CM7
PLEASE ANSWER.. THANKS FOR READING!!

Q: Backing up stock ROM

Hello,
I haven't found the precise answer for this but I have searched. So if this is repetetive, please forgive me (and don't hurt me )
So, I want to try Cyanogenmod 7.2 RC1 for my Galaxy Ace. But I want to be able to go back to my stock ROM.
I know there are generic stock ROMs floating around (which I've learned from my searches). But I'd like to back up my own stock ROM.
Can this be done with ROM Manager (free version)?
Thank you!
Indeed you can. But the free version is out of google market (google play now).
What I advise you is to install CWM (search here on xda), and you can do a full backup of your phone there! That's what I did.
Great, thank you very much, I will try this.
So basically you used CWM to backup your stock ROM and if you wanted you could restore it to factory settings like nothing happened?
I have found the ROM Manager on Play here : play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.rommanager

That is a great rom manager. You will need an external SD card and have your phone rooted before backing up.
Thank you!
Should I go with CWM or ROM Manager (or do I need both from what I understand)
I just reboot into my recovery (CWM)
Then I choose the backup option and it just simply backs my current rom.
If you dont like the new rom, you just choose the restore option and it restores your old rom for you
Warning. The backup becomes corrupted easily so u should immediately copy it onto a ssd or back it up online. And make a few backups in case one fails. Its happened to me a few times
If you like my posts hit thanks

Kernel: Devil Kernel
Keep it ANDROID!!!!!!!!

steps to setup Custom Rom !!!

Hi guys
at first thanks for time you spend to read my problam
i have Samsung Galaxy SL i9003
and i still work on 2.3.6 and i hate it and it's very and super lagy :crying:
i know how to setup stock rom from odin , it's very easy
but i really can't get how setup custom rom
andi don't know any thing about custom rom ,
and hope any one tell me how to do and explan it to me simpely , not good in english
and tell me the best custom rom that i can use it every day and work fine and fast , and get links for me
i speak arabic & i'm not good in english , sorry for my bad english guys
All custom roms for android 4.x have few bugs. So, if you are okay with that, I will suggest installing CM11. It works nice except for few bugs here and there.
But, if you prefer a fully stable rom, you have to stick with android 2.3.6. In that case, I will suggest FlyOnGB rom. Also, you can try doing a factory reset and see if that helps.

FlyOnGB: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2353292
As for setting up odin, you can use it only to install md5 or tar files. nearly all custom rom are uploaded as zip file, and are to be flashed from recovery mode. You will need to copy the zip file to phone, and boot into recovery using Vol Up + Home + Power key. Of course, you will need to root your phone to go into recovery mode.

Custom roms are already rooted, so you don't need to do anything on them. To root a stock rom, you need to flash the cf-root for that particular rom, and then restart the phone. Use this link to download the cf-root file. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331253
To flash the cf-root file, first you need to flash the stock rom, and restart the phone. Then you can use Odin to flash the cf-root just like you flash a rom.
Google apps are your default android apps (play music, maps, google search and such). You don't need these necessarily, as you can download them from play store too. Few roms have bugs with play store apps, therefore they give you modified version of them in that thread.
If you want to flash the google apps, you can do it just like you do it for custom rom. After installing custom rom, just reboot to recovery mode. Now, select the google apps zip file, and install it the same way you installed the custom rom.
If you are stuck, follow the steps from those link as it is. Use this link for more help. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1894737

[Q] Can't install ROM

Hello,
I have a Samsung galaxy tab 2 (p5110), with root and clockwork recovery.
When i wan't to install a rom (made for p5110) i get the error (status 7) even when i alter the file with notepad or if i 'toggle signature vertification.
I have tried it with mutiple ROMS (like slimrom) but they all don't work.
Can someone please help me?
Try updating your recovery, allot of the new roms are running Kitkat and if your recovery is outdated it won't work.
Pp.
I have ROM manager clockworkmod 6.0.2.7 witch should be the latest version.
I also have ROOT, so i don't understand why no rom will install on my tab...
Any progress with your tablet?
Pp.
No, it still doesn't work
Here is exacty what I do:
- Download a ROM (from XDA) for the P5110
- Put the ROM on a SD card (in the samsung tab)
- Boot into clockwork recovery (version 6.0.2.7)
- Install from external SD card
- Get error 7 (even if I put verification signature on)
Witch forces me to re-install my backup of android 4.2.2 samsung tab 2
I must be doing something wrong, but i can't figure out what...
Thanks for the help
Looks like the rooting method doesn't really went well.
What you're doing isn't wrong in my opinion.
You could try to reroot the tab.
Might wanna install original firmware with odin and start the progtess again.
But when I use rootchecker, it says my tablet is rooted, also most of the root apps work (like Greenify, xposed installer apps, SuperSU)
I rooted it some time back, using something like cappuchino (??, it was some time ago hahaha).
If i must do it again, what guide to root do you use personally?
Thanks

Normally I look at the Zedomax movies on Youtube.
When i had a Sammy tab (i thought it was the p7500?) I remember rooting it by some of the Zedomax (HighOnAndroid) movies on youtube.
It is strange that rootchecker etc says you are rooted.
You can try to return to stock and like i said before reroot everything. But... could it be that you are on a current bootloader wich is not the same as the rom you are trying to install ?
Sent from my SM-G900F using XDA Free mobile app
I have tried ALL the ROM's from XDA for p5110...
Witch bootloader do you recommend?
Why put rom on external SD card?
Typical download goes to internal, select from internal not external. Forget about the external, typically I move stuff I don't want to erase to external but not roms or gapps.
Pp.
Here is a screenshot of the last ROM & gapps I installed.
These downloaded straight to SD card (internal) typical instructions from developers is to (download and install from internal.)
Try it, you might like it. ? ?
Pp.
tried to install another rom from XDA (for p5110) kitkat from internal sd
Still doesn't work...
Here a screen:
Check your downloads make sure your downloading for your specific model, make sure you have a P5110 ?
Pp.
Downloads are specificly for p5110
I'm sure i have GT-P5110, see photo.
??? Running out of suggestions, maybe try installing a stock rom.
Look in original development.
Pp.
hahaha just my luck...
Where can i find stock roms?
Try Google xda has no original development for GTAB 2..
Just check the dates, don't d/l old stuff.
Pp.
While you're running the latest OFFICIAL CWM for this tab, it is too old to flash a KitKat ROM. But there are newer unofficial versions that work just fine.
Update recovery from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2548476
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app
I did it
I unrooted it, and then rooted it again with philz clockworkmod recovery
After that, it wanted to install slimkat build 8.0 (official) just fine (android 4.4.4) and it runs smooth!
Thanks for all the help!
