Verizon insurance question - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I have a s3 in white. And I want to make a claim.. do you think I could request for a blue one now? Or will they make me stay white. It is the same phone after all. Anyone have exp?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

Most likely get the same color phone. But it doesn't hurt to ask. The worst they can say, is no.

I had some bad exp going through 9 refurbs with my gnex before I got this phone. And they used to offer me downgrades like a RAZR or rezound hah. But I really want the blue shell

Haha I have a white and I wanna claim through Verizon get a blue. Swap shells and send back the refurbished with my white on it.

Update they are sending me out a pebble blue one. And I bought a back cover off eBay. Just be polite and they will do it. After all it is the same phone.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

Will they take back my s3 with no imei sticker in the back? Or will I be charged?..
Had phone in white. Wanted it in blue. So I got insurance to send me a blue. Gonna swap my guts into the blue shell, and send back the refurbished phone with my white shell because i don't want a refurb phone clearly. However imei stickers and serials won't match properly.. So what's the best way of sending it back?..
I'll have the refurbished shell and imei sticker on my non refurbished motherboard etc. Seeing how it's attached to the screen.
How would you send it back? Should I rip the sticker off one and mail it?
Thoughts and input without hating?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

I'm assuming when you say "Verizon Insurance" you really mean Asurion, correct?
Are you sure they are going to send you a refurb? I had a couple claims recently (one due to work and another personal claim) in which they sent me 2 brand spanking new GS3's with all original items (battery, charger, headphones, etc.). Just saying you might not have to go through all that work and wouldn't swapping shells void your warranty anyway?

I wouldnt do that.
Id just live with the blue phone you asked for. If you nandroid to your SD card getting your phone back to how you had it should take you under 15 minutes.
it might even take you under5 minutes. i dnt know if you have to root and unlock again. if restoring a nandroid wipes anyway, you might just be abel to do that. but im not 100% sure.
if that isnt your concern, you should still have an easy time restoring your stuff.

I hope to get a brand new one. However I know majority of the time you don't. And she said it doesn't come with a back cover. As in its a refurbished device. And taking apart the phone doesn't void anything. There's no stickers like that to void warranty they cannot tell.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

They should
I have changed colors doing insurance claim on iPhone for one of the users on our corporate account so don't see why wouldn't do the same for a Sammy.

And as far as living with the blue phone I asked for and not swapping. The process is much longer and at that point I have a refurbished device. Which I want to avoid having because it already failed at one point that's why its refurbished.
You can tell its refurbished by the sticker on the back.
I went through 9 refurbished phones of the galaxy nexus before giving up. I'd rather not deal with refurbs and keep my original equipment but get the new color.
I'm only doing this for the shell to make my phone blue!

The steps I followed last week to swap out my S3:
Make Nandroid of current phone.
Reset current phone to stock making sure you didn't trip your load counter.
Root and unlock new phone.
Install CWM.
Restore using the nandroid from the ext sd.
All has been well for over a week.

Guys I'm trying to avoid having a refurbished motherboard. So I want to keep my current everything but the shell. Change the shell to be a blue phone. I know I can backup and this and that. But I want to avoid that.
And I know I can do this no problem. But the stickers won't match the imei on the phone. But if I sent back the refurb with my white shell and no imei sticker can you get away with it. Is the question

Why not just buy a full case for the phone instead of committing insurance fraud? Sounds like you're old phone works great and you are just wanting another color.... I know that Verizon is the enemy and insurance companys are rip offs looking to line their pockets, but I am a big believer in Karma.... Hey dude, do whatever makes you happy and no I am not the forum police nor do I work for Verizon. I pay a huge bill every month like most on here and stuff like this is one of the reasons that service is so high. I know that the greedy bastards at Verizon gouge us as it is, but just look on this forum alone at all of the $600 phones that have been sent back because of user error from not reading and now wanting another color than you already have. We all have to help recoup the price of these replacements that they sent out.
I didn't mean to offend anyone, but if you or I were Verizon, how would you handle things like this? I am going back to my corner now, sorry for the rant.

How hard would it be

How hard would it be to replace the charging port on the phone? Mine is on the brink of death and a whole new phone isnt exactly in the card right now so I thought about just replacing the charging port, but I dont know what all would go into it.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
I'm not sure about replacing but have you thought about buying an extra battery that comes with a charger for just the battery so you just switch out the battery when it dies. I got mine for like $15 on eBay

For sixty bucks plus shipping you can send it in for repair.

Replacing it wouldn't be that hard for someone with some skills with small electronics. If you or a friend have those skills should be pretty painless. If not use that link that eellio sent you or find a repair shop in your area.

thanks for the link eollie but i think i'll go with falcon's idea adn just snag a battery and charger. or if i can find someone with good enough soldering skills that i trust, i'll try to fix it.
i'm on the phone right now trying to see if i can get it replaced under insurance, we'll see how that goes
I thought about telling about an external charger but that wont help you with hooking your phone to the computer......same port :-/.....and if its going bad.....

That was my reason for looking to get it fixed. I have pretty good soldering skills and I woulndt attempt it.
Juls if they will warranty it I would go that route. I figured it was out of warranty.
Side note, has anybody attempted to get mobile odin ported to the sgs4g? That would do away with the need for a cable.
The mobile Odin will only work if you don't Odin back to a non rooted stock.....must have root to use it .....I looked into it and will eventually let it run its 30 min long log to hand in for a request for our device
Juls, here's the eBay link for the batteries. These are the same ones I bought a few months ago

If you went with insurance I hope you told them you lost phone? By doing this it allows you to keep your phone for parts or even use it as a tester phone so you can try to flash risky stuff without worrying about being left with a dead device you will have spare. Hope you understand what I'm saying. If you say phone has problem you pay 130 and ship back your phone to them. If you already told them there was an issue and they want phone back wait a day call them back and say the phone is now lost
NOT stolen this way the phone can't be locked out hope this helped

Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
I have not tried after I received the phone but have called a day after I put in claim and no problems. It's worth a shot I mean it could really happen. I always tell them I lost it why should I pay 130 to give my phone away and then they fix cheap and sell it high. Even if the device is broken there are still good parts that you or someone else could use
Side note you can put old phone on ebay and probably get at least 100 dollars to help cover the insurance cost.

I should of seen that coming. But who is screwing who, as phone company charges 600 for device then they require a 2 year contract and phone is only warrantied for one year so you buy insurance at 10 a month for 24 months another 240 we are now at 840 plus when phone breaks you pay another 130 for a grand total of 970, and you get a refurbished device. Do what you want. I am not condoning fraud but for that price I'm keeping my original phone. Ins company are nothing but legal scam artists

If you pay 600 bucks for a device on contract then you are doing it wrong. I paid right at 400 for the phone and car dock OUT of contract.
I understand what your saying, however it is insurance fraud. I disagree with people doing this and will speak up every time. Plus Im sure your comment and my replies will be reported to a mod and get this thread either locked or them removed. Because xda doesnt condone this and doenst allow these type of conversations.
Food for thought, if you are caught doing this it can also cause you to be non insurable as well as criminal charges or for however long the insurance company feels necessary to report you as a risk for fraudulent claims when attempting to get insurance in the future.

I agree with you and understand where you are coming from, but it makes me wonder...
If you were to flash your device and hard brick it, and you have insurance. Would you call Tmobile and say "I rooted my phone and was attempting to load third party firmware on it when I messed up and my device will no longer turn on."?
Or would you simply say your device does not turn on anymore?

I sat for three days with a semi hard bricked Droid X that I got the day after they released. I was about to buy a new phone when moto's version of odin was leaked and I was able to restore it. I also thought my Optimus V was beyond restoration and after hours and hours of tinkering got it back alive. I had paid for insurance from best buy and thought about using it but personally I couldnt do it.
So to answer I wouldnt even call them. I would start saving to replace the phone. I broke it I have to eat it.

I can assure you, as an attorney, that the terms of the insurance policy are such that when they pay a claim on a lost phone, it becomes their property. It's no different than if your car was stolen and then returned after you settled up on it.

[Q] Galaxy SIII hard brick

I seem to have hard bricked my Galaxy S3 on US Cellular. I was running Baked blackbean 6, and wanted to flash the latest modem for USCC to fix the absolutely terrible signal issues. I grabbed the zip and opened it up in mobile odin and told it to flash. My phone shut down and now won't do a thing. No download mode, no recovery, no notification light. When I plug it into my computer, the computer dings to say that something has been plugged in, but it doesn't show anything anywhere. It's not detected by odin.
So. I want to either fix it or get it replaced. I have done a bit of research, and it looks like a jtag fix is the only thing that'll work at this point. And the jtag fix I've found is for the international galaxy s3. I'd need the correct files for the USCC/Verizon S3. I've also seen that I can send it to some place online for $60 and they'll fix it. But that takes like 2 weeks. I was thinking about bringing it back to the store and asking for a replacement.
I'm figuring I should just bring it in and act dumb. Say it wouldn't turn on today when I got up. Then they put a new battery in it, and it still doesn't work. Then they give me a replacement. But I've never returned a device like this. Any tips regarding my issue?
Yes pay for the JTAG. You broke your phone not the carrier. Pay the extra for faster shipping and it only takes a couple days then.

I would go for that, except my phone was one of the phones with the signal issues. US Cellular started offering replacements for those. I hadn't brought mine in, as I wasn't feeling up to making everything stock again. So even if I did the jtag, then I'd still have a phone that didn't work right. That's why I don't feel wrong bringing it in for a free replacement if I can.

This isn't insurance fraud -- this is what insurance is for. Trying to get it warrantied is fraud, given that it was not the carrier's problem, but the insurance is there for accidental damage/loss. Accidently bricking the phone is definitely accidental damage and is clearly a legit insurance claim.

If it's a legit insurance claim, why is it he "suddenly couldn't find it" then filed the insurance claim? Why didn't he just file the claim saying he bricked his phone flashing a custom ROM? Because he knew it would be denied. He purposefully flashed custom software which bricked his phone, nothing accidental about that. I'm quite certain he filed the claim as a lost phone, not that he bricked it flashing custom software. Try filling the claim as an accidental brick from flashing a custom ROM and see how far you get with that.

If you don't have any cosmetic damage call samsung and say it died. You have a free one year manufacture warranty use it a lot of people don't I did twice. They send you a box to send your phone and send you a refurbished or new phone. They send the new device to your house with ups. The box they send for you to send your old phone is prepaid you just drop it off at the ups store. Don't waste your time with the carrier it only take a week the most to get your phone back man. Htc do the same accept they wanted me to pay for shipping.

Will Verizon insurance cover the cracked screen? I heard yes they do, and I'll have to pay $100 for it. Now, if they do, what about my rooted phone? Do I have to go through the trouble of unrooting it when I bring it in for repair?
Thanks for all your advice!!

So I ended up calling assurion, they gonna charge me $100 for a replacement. Done!
Yeah, its gonna suck to get a refurbed device. But at the end, better than going through the hassles.

Asurion insurance claim - typical?

My wife's S3 was run over. She called to file a claim and was told they are out of stock and that it could be 5-7 days before they have something to send her. They also said they could not offer a different phone, because nothing was shown in their system as a comparable replacement. So for now, she's stuck with nothing.
This seems pretty terrible. Is this typical? I'm definitely going to be looking for an alternative insurance option when this is done.

Just to add, I was talking to the Verizon manager in the call I reference above, and that manager refused to give me the name of their direct supervisor after basically telling me there was nothing that could be done on their end (except credit the account for days of service during which I'm waiting for the new phone). I am on hold with Asurion right now with a supervisor, but still being told nothing they can do to fix the situation.
Update: Asurion supervisor unable to help. Told them I'd be cancelling insurance on all 3 lines when this is resolved, posting about it on XDA, and submitting complaint to the BBB. Being transferred to the...CEO?
Definitely unacceptable, they are legally bind to replace you with an exact phone or comparable phone and note 2 is the only comparable phone to S3 unless they already have the s4, which I doubt.

Well they never mentioned the Note 2, just kept saying no S3 in stock and that there was nothing else comparable available as an option either. After that last transfer to the corporate office or something, I was again told the same thing but also offered the option to buy the S3 at a corporate Verizon store and get reimbursed minus deductible. So I took that offer and ultimately happy with that solution, but definitely not happy with the runaround and hassle.

After that return and exchange for the note 2.Verizon has a 14day return policy. S3 is not worth having

There is nothing wrong with the s3. I don't know where you get the "not worth having part"

For me, this is anything but typical. After this past weekend, I've filed four claims with them in the 3 years I've been their customer. Only once have they not had my device in stock, and the rep immediately suggested a comparable replacement. I know they don't always get the best reputation. However, I always get my claim filed fast with no hassle and the device always arrives very quickly.
Me and my GF both got replacement phones before the holidays. She broke hers and I cracked my screen. For both I told Asurion we lost them, cheaper fee and got phones the next day. Got to keep the extra parts too (batt door, batt). I would never tell them I broke the phone, they want the broken one back and its more expensive. Just pull the Sim and tell them u lost it. I use my old phone with the broken screen as a music player, and for WiFi. Screen still works its just cracked bad.

I thought about just reporting it missing, but phone was smashed enough that nothing was really usable. I also thought the deductible was the same regardless of damaged vs lost/stolen. At least that what it shows for me when I look up the deductible...

This. The s3 is the best phone out in my opinion, unless of course you want to go bigger. Then you would shoot for the note 2

Did you file a claim online? Did they ask for any documentation or anything?
I ditched all insurance for both my wife and myself. I found that for $7/month and a deductible of $50-$100 I was way better off fixing the phone myself and dealing with it that way. Every experience I had with asurion when I did have them was a headache and the refurbished phones they replaced my phone with were always defective and needing another replacement. Replacement digitizer on my wife's Bionic was $30 with about 30 minutes of labor. Nothing compared to >$200 cost that would have come from asurion's "help".
The claims I've had with Asurion have usually been handled well. Even had an old droid incredible replaced with an incredible 2.
I had a claim on my sgs3 5 days after the release date because I dropped it snd the screen shattered. It was so new they had to send me a new one. Took 3 weeks!!!! I actually went and bought a new screen for it and had it working before I got my replacement.
