go into system/etc
add PowerOn.ogg (this will be the label of the music file for boot animation
as long as the rom supports it should work fine

Just add? What about the actual sound files do I have to rename it?

just cut down a mp3 file of whatever song you want and use audacity or any audio converter to convert it to .ogg
then pace into system/etc

yea, it is. its also included in the trinity kernel. i believe that it needs to be an .ogg file format and in /system/media/poweron/. thats where it is in the trinity kernel at least.
Good to know its possible. What does the desc.txt file say for the Trinity kernel?
I tried changing the mp3 to ogg, but still no dice. I know I'm missing something to get bootsound to work, just haven't been able to figure it out. Does the bootanimation file in /system/bin need to be replaced with something that supports bootsound?

wow, i can't believe i missed that tutorial. now i have a super cool custom boot ani with sound of the ending in the movie "The Fountain." now on to the splash screen...
rename to PowerOn.mp3
try renaming the file to PowerOn.mp3 and then push it to system>sounds

(Tut) How to get back to stock boot animation.

I see a lot of ppl that are on custom roms that would like stock animation and sound back. So i figured i would share this. I take no credit for this. Im just simply rewriting and summarizing what i found over in the Stratosphere section on rootzwiki. Credit goes to icebear for finding the files and to buffaloquinn for posting what to do with them. You can find that thread here
Download stock files here
In Root Explorer (or other file manager)
Navigate to /system/media/
(change to R/W)
In /system/media/
Rename bootsamsung.qmg -> bootsamsung.bak
Rename bootsamsungloop.qmg -> bootsamsungloop.bak
Copy bootani.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg (from wherever you have them) to the /system/media/ directory
Rename bootani.qmg -> bootsamsung.qmg
In /system/etc/
Replace the PowerOn.wav file with stock Droid version (If your on infinity rom or another rom that doesnt have boot sound. Then just add the wav file to the /system/etc/ directory)
Change back to R/O
Reboot to the Droid animation
Nice job writing it up but lol that dang boot sound is the first thing I kill. I either edit it out or replace it.
Thanks! Sound is optional though. I just figured i would include how to do it all. If anybody doesn't want any sound then just delete the .wav file in the directory.
Im running tweakstock 1.4 and the audio changed but the animation did not

Are you running the latest pbj kernel? If so, go into /system/media and delete "sanim. Zip".
Hey I am running jellybeer v3.54 on galaxy note, N7000.
I just wanted to know if this method will work on it too.
thanks in advance!:good::fingers-crossed:

Well, they're different devices so my tentative answer is no. But we're not going to stop you, so if you want to try it, be my guest. You'd probably get much better feedback in your own forum.

Ok what you do is go to your systems folder > media > audio and create folder poweron then rename the sound file you want to PowerOn.ogg and place it into the poweron folder. You should be good to go if it doesn't work then its not supported

If you want to do it that way /system/media/audio/ringtones is the folder to put more sound into, right. But remember to use the right audio format (should be .ogg if I am not mistaken...)
ok thanks
Or if you want to make your own ringtones https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.herman.ringtone
