Could our Skyrocket get official JB? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Could our Skyrocket get official JB? I see the update list for samsung devices but i didn't see our device in the list.

Yes.
Also, please use the JB thread in General.
Sent from my non-rooted GS2 SR

It should be receiving it, as the hardware is similar enough to quite a few other phones on the market. Additionally, Samsung is already prepping for their SII updates, so it would only make sense that the former flagship SII would receive it.
Only caveat, likely will be delayed due to it being a a niche model that was overall, limited run versus the original international variant of the SII.

It'll probably be similar to the crappy ICS update we got which lagged our phones like crazy and had ugly touchwiz on it. I'll stick with CM9/CM10 beta

Just got of a chat with samsung, and here is the official statement:

Chatted on the 28 of November 2012.
The funny thing is, I used to own a Motorola Atrix 4G (great phone) and motorola pulled out the ICS upgrade at the last minute and left all the atrix user on GB. I bought the skyrocket hoping that it will get the JB update, will just have to wait.!!!

Why did you necro this stupid thread to post absolutely nothing helpful

[Q] will the Captivate will get an 2.2 update?

if so when it will be?
can i get the OTA if i dont use at&t's sim?
who develop and responsible for the update? is it at&t or Samsung?
and for last, will i be able to install the updated Rom by Odin?
thanks
Shay
All these questions have been asked ad nauseum on these very forums... wouldn't want to inconveniance you with a search though so...
Yes.
Don't know.
Probably, but you'll likely have to flash it yourself.
Samsung will do the development, AT&T will probably deploy.

Thanks for your reply! It is also important to me.
I can trust the AT & T?..
I want to buy the device. Maybe they do not release an update?
Eventually. If you search the threads, there is a post about Froyo for Captivate in Spain (I think) for late October.
Anyway, I want them to make sure it's ok before they push out another update that bricks phones.
Thanks. So the update will come for sure? So probably I will buy.

Yeah but it will probably come for the I9000 Galaxy S phones first. It's a wait and see.
so one last question to be sure:
the captivate will get an update to android 2.2
the update is originally made to the i9000 and being modified by at&t?
am i right?
thanks again
by the way, i did searched a lot in the forum but i didn't found and inconclusive answers
Samsung will port the 2.2 update to the Captivate, but AT&T has to approve(mangle) it before public release.
Don't mean to burst your bubbles but no. We will not get a official release.... just remember I said it.
Common if we were to get it it would be done by now.

True We Will Not, but You can "BUY" a Samsung Tablet with Froyo 2.2. Ask yourself how do they have 2.2 for a tablet that has yet to be released (here in the USA, but Soon) and not for the Captivate and all others that were released in July some back in May?
Hell No We WON'T EVER see Froyo on the Captivate....

Just a little announcement for the Captivate

Hello guys,
First things, I am not PR! I have been very busy on my end of things preparing updates, answers for questions, etc. Which brings me to announce that Froyo will be out for your captivate devices tomorrow.
Thanks guys,
TwitterSamsungJohn
Long overdue, but thanks for the heads up SJ. Holding my breath.... haha
Been to Sir Lanka lately?
What about Gingerbread? We've had Froyo for a while, despite it being ported from another Galaxy S phone. AOSP too please? Comon, development has really come to a halt in the Galaxy S threads... We need more ROMs then just Touchwiz. If not touchwiz, then at least the newest version announced on the S2. Thanks...
That's why HTC in my opinion, is getting all the developer love.
Kernel Sources
Frequent Updates
No touchwiz-crap
They SUPPORT cyanogen and other devs.
They get AOSP ROM's, so they can have Sense, stock, honeycomb, MIUI... ect. HTC really doesn't care, as long as the customer is satisfied.
Hardware is generally the same. Please stop putting slightly modified versions of a chip in EVERY single phone. This really slows down updates and development. Example: the HTC Desire HD. The AT&T version is the Inspire 4G, same hardware, design, but only an audio chip is different. Guess what? Sources are being released, now all the ROM's, mods, kernels, all work together across what seems to be multiple devices.
GPS-GPS-GPS. Please, release a fix that allows the phone to lock on in a few second like every other phone in the market?

you guys posted the epic source to the opensource page 3-5 days before the official push.

They never promised anything...but who knows miracles could happen and they may not have been just giving you lip service
so... make it happen "the google"!
Samsung Technical Support can you please send me a link when the icecream update is ready for the Infuse 4g.
I highly doubt ICS is ever coming to infuse... but good to see there is a slight hope.
I just want them to release more stable version of official gb
It will take forever
lol even though it will come jelly bean (android 5.0) will probobly be out by then. I mean froyo to gingerbread is small step and took atnt forever to release it. gingerbread to ics is huge step and will take atnt forever to release it to lol. The only reason i want them to release it is for bluetooth and camera drivers. Entropy's rom is awsome and is my daily driver but it doesnt have bluetooth and camera isnt the best quility so if samsung does release official the entropy's rom will be awsome. Yeah a more stable gb rom would be good to cause the one out right now doesnt have hdmi support and only records 720p at 15frames per second

Dont put stock in what Samsung has to say as they have little control over the update. ATT has complete control. Samsung may release it to ATT but then ATT may never release it. It is not unheard of. Happens all the time with ATT phones. The euro version gets 1 or 2 updates whle the US version never sees any updates at all.
This is what i got

I have to agree, it would be awesome if they do bring ICS to our phone. However, it'll be a couple of months before they release a "Leak" of it, and by the time it's released on Kies, I'm sure all of us will be up for an upgrade, and we'll all have the SG3 looking for a Jellybean leak, trying to OC and Theme the hell out of it.. lol..
Guys.... there were articles everywhere stating that att would only release ics to some of their very high end phones. The infuse is not a high end phone anymore. Sammy may make an update... but the chances of us ever seeing it are little as att will abolish it immediatly. Only if someone was in very close contact with sammy....
I agree with you, which is pretty much why we're all here on XDA looking for the latest and greatest for our phone, which is why I applaud and send my MANY thanks to everyone responsible for every Mod/Theme/Firmware update possible. I know I just officially joined this site, but I've been coming to it for quite sometime, to look for ways to mod not just my phone, but also friends of mine who are not as Tech-savy as I am, so I find myself getting asked to mod all my friends phones all the time. Luckily, I find it fun to do, not to mention, it helps me get a better understanding of how things work and why they operate the way they do. but anyhow.. If it is true that this phone will get ICS that's awesome, but if not, well.. atleast it was a nice thought. Even though, it still baffles me that Developers here at XDA can port ROMs from other phones and are getting quite efficient at it too by the way, and it takes manufactures months actually almost a year to release an old outdated Firmware upgrade (Gingerbread) and still had plenty of bugs.. so what's the difference at this point where we get updates from.. lol..

Who do we contact at Samsung about ICS/Jellybean?

This is getting just plain ridiculous. There is just NO CAUSE for this device not to have at least ICS by now. I posted on their facebook page but it "disappeared". Any suggestions on where to contact?

Why does everyone in these forums think calling, texting tweeting or emailing any manufacturer is going to get an update released any sooner? Or that you will get an answer as to when it will be released. In every device forum I'm in you get these juvenile attempts to harass a manufacturer to release an update and that's just not how the world works. Do you really think they care that you don't have the update when you want it? They will release the update when they feels its ready to be released and not any sooner no matter how many calls they get.
I beleive the Samsung OS Upgrade Customer Care Manager is Helen Waite. So, I beleive, if someone has a complaint about a lack of a timely OS upgrade on a Samsung Product, they expect us to go to Helen Waite.

[IMPORTANT] [GUIDE] Getting ICS test builds from Samsung. [Community Project]

Hello guys, with your help, i think we could pressure samsung to release their ICS test builds (with RAM issues) - if they even exist in the first place.
To help, you just have to follow extremely simple steps:
STEP 1:
Enter this website..
STEP 2:
Fill all the required fields.
And insert the following in the message section (Credits to Hetalk):
Dear customer service representative
From previous conversations and official samsung updates, I understand Samsung did try to get ICS working for this device(Samsung S LCD GT-I9003).
It would be really helpful to developers, who are helping a lot of device owners, have a taste of this wonderful version of android, if samsung can help supply whatever source code they had when they tried to get ICS working for this phone.
It will also underline samsung's commitment to their customers of providing them best experience and support.
Hopefully, you will look into this and do the correct thing by supplying source codes, to make sure we stay samsung customer when we plan a new device.

Or you could be more rude (no swearing, just more aggressive), you can edit that message to suit your needs, and level of anger
STEP 3:
You'll receive an answer in about 24/48 hours.
The answer will *probably* be "We don't have plans to update the GT-I9003 to ICS.
Post the answer in this topic so we take a look at how they're reacting to the huge requests.
Now, reply to that message with the following (Credits to Hetalk):

Your response didn't even remotely answer my query or request.
Please read again and advise.

Here, you can also edit it to suit your needs.
STEP 4:
Wait for their answer again and post it here.
*Will update when someone reaches this step).
STEP 5:
Please share this topic with anyone that cares, upload the link in your signature, tell your friends and family!
The main key of success here is numbers, huge complaints = Samsung will probably notice us.
Good luck.

Worth a try.

The problem is that ugly touchwiz.
Anyways, here's the link: http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=inquiry
As per my personal experience touch wizard takes less ram as compared to go launcher ex which I always use. But still I always get nearly 220 mb free ram for usage.
Samsung is just giving us excuses for not giving ICS.

That depends, in new valuepacks, touchwiz itself shows how bad it's optimized.
They simply don't want to waste their time with our device, so getting the things they already worked on for developers is enough i guess.
Skander1998, just copy paste your question here and whoever wants to email samsung, will send that same email thru the link.
I'll change it a bit to make sure it goes thru if they could make something that would filter the standard text out.

Message:
According to Samsung the device won't receive an ICS update because of RAM issues, but did samsung even develop a working (or partially working) ICS build to find out the RAM issues in the first place ?
If so is there any possibilities for making those source codes open source for download?
Developers in XDA are currently porting CM9 to this device, and those sources (If even available) might be helpful to finally get a working ICS custom ROM.
I do understand that it's not Samsung's job to help with such stuff, but if the work is there sharing it would be helpful.

Actually they have wasted so much time to give updates from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6 firmware update. Actually they just dont want to work on building kernel 3.x on OPAM 3630 chipset which they have rarely used for android devices. Anyway I have mailed them. I dont know how to mail in correct manner but I have used little rude language so that they should understand how much people are frustrated with samsung attitude.
