Turn off capacitive digitizer? or sPen only mode - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to only use the wacom digitizer? For example if I want to use a note taking application that doesn't have palm rejection?
I know the lenovo thinkpad tablet has this easily accesible from double tapping the clock...
Is there anything out there?

i think when the s pen tip is near the screen, touch wont works probably

In the settings menu -> pen .. you will see option to disable pen when it's in the slot.

You're right. Just tried it. Even when the floating dot from pen on screen, finger touches or whatever won't register.

Samsung & Sprint do jot know this!

I just want to thank you for your post. I spent over an hr with both Samsung and Sprint (over and hr each). I was promised that there was no way to use the new enhanced s-pen (ok, not so new as I think it as originally made for the Note 1) with out first removing the s -pen from the phone on the Note 2. I just could not imagain such an oversight. Your post gave me the answer and what makes me so upset is that it is an obvious answer, one you would have expected Samsung or sprint to have ready to answer via their internal knowlege base. I have so ma y other questions I have asked them with out any kind of reasonable answer, I find myself wondering if I should ever call either if these companies Again!
So a bug thanks for at least uncovering this answer!
This said, if there is a way to get some clarity on other posts I have read regarding the own itself, I would be once again greatful. As I understand it, there is a two button pen plus "eraser " out there which was originally made for IBM, but which will work with the Note 2, with all three buttons (2 on side and one on top) usable by the apps hilt in on the Note 2 as it currently stands. Is this true, or just a rumor. If true, what us the name or model number so I can order? Just figured it would nit hurt to ask.
Again, thank you for your help. Your first note above has helped me a great deal and has made fools of both the phone's maker and the service provider, and I guess myself as well for thinking that either would be if any real help.
Regards, Dan

I think it kind of sucks, but when you have a large company with so many different devices (I mean, look at the number of tablets and phones that samsung puts out vs apple), there are bound to be a large number of people who don't know because they won't care (samsung's fault for not reinforcing it more the way apple does) because they're a large company as stated.
Is this it?
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Stylus-Galaxy-Eraser-ET-S200EBEGSTA/dp/B00A3XUT6Y
I think Samsung also sells it from their online store as a mobile accessory (so you can use the promo code and get like 50% off).

I have this pencil myself, it comes from Samsung and works like a charm. The upper end works as eraser (if supported by the app) and it is better to handle than the original one which can remain inside the Note.

Slide Out Keyboard/Case?

I just saw this for the iphone 4 and wonder if the sgs had anything similar? i would kill for such a thing (and I do not want Sprint, so no Epic 4g).

It's pretty much an elegant bluetooth keyboard built into a case.
Seen it too
Would love to have the same for the SGS with enhanced battery included !
Doesn't the Galaxy S have problem with bluetooth keyboards?
This would be amazing!
The only thing missing on my SGS, manufacture's are you listening ?
no they are not......they are born deaf......we say "froyo" and they here "yo yo".....dumb samsung....if they had their customers happy....galaxy s would have sold some 10 times more...

actually not likely. Many custommers (like me) don't like the "thinkness" added with a flip keyboard.
Anyway, the Galaxy S Pro will most likely have a flip KB, this will cover this area of the market.
you could just get a bluetooth keyboard for around 20 dollars, and then i guess tape it on or something....
i have a mini bluetooth keyboard.
no problems having it work. but i just don't need a physical keyboard right now.
would be a lot cheaper too.
i really would like this...
That would be beyond awesome. But I have my doubts that it will happen... Still, it might even be possible to attach it via USB to the Galaxy S, which would be even more awesome.
There are several out there you could easily make your own flip case and use one of them.
http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/portable-usb-bluetooth-keyboard.html
One way to do it i guess is get a flip case and sticking the mini keyboard on it.
I am actually get one and i'll see how it works out ( the keyboard not the flip case.... yet . )

Nice case Thanks..
There are something similar, a phone case with bluetooth keyboard slot.
I think some people still like the feeling of pressing on a real buttons more.
I mounted a slide out qwerty keyboard to my Galaxy S. There are few photos, but the forum engine does not allow me to post a link directly.

Hey fenyvessy, that was brilliant, thanks!
I'm getting one too. Although I've ordered one of these cheap cases too, so to make it easily removable.

BT S Pen feedback

Does anybody have it yet? Could you please leave your comments and first impressions here if you do?...
The pen works very well on the note 10.1. It feels more natural than the s pen. I actually Bluetooth it to my galaxy note 5.3. Sound quality is excellent and the people I talk to can hear me very clearly. All in all a great device. Can you live without it? Absolutely, but it's fun to have.
Thanks for the feedback.
1. Does this pen allow pairing with more than one device at the same time?
2. Does it house the 10.1 stylus inside, like the holder for the original N7000 Note did?

No. As far as I can see it only pairs with 1 device. Can't read Chinese instructions though. It doesn't house the stylus. It's a separate stylus. Comes with its own bag of plastic nibs.
Anyone else got this? Could you please leave your feedback? Thanks.
I've ordered it off of ebay, but not received yet. am anxious to read others reviews as well.
The BT s-pen has the same function as the normal s-pen. And it is a bluetooth headset with vibrition for incomming calls. When you press the phone button S-voice opens. Say "call Annie" and Annie will be called. Great !

Got mine off Ebay from Korea directly... No english instructions but then its not too hard to work out...
Charge until led turns blue, start bluetooth on Phone/Tablet, search bluetooth.
On pen, hold dial button for 3 - 10 seconds, tablet will pick up, Can't remember if I needed to enter pair code but "0000" usually works....

I finally got my hands one one of these yesterday - awesome. I also got English instructions with mine
1. Yes it supports two devices at the same time (Multi-Point) I have mine paired with my Note 10.1 & my Note 2
2. Yes it holds an s-pen inside - there's some instructions for re-assembling it and a picture. I don't know if it's the full s-pen inside though and I'm not going to take it apart just to find out.
It's got the proper feel of a pen and is much nicer to write with than built in one. Works great with s-voice as well and sound quality is good.
My poor s-pen always stays in it's slot now.
Also one proud owner here Got mine for about 30 usd. Really like to use it over the standard Spen. And what is more cool than talk to your pen, haha.

From this shop I doubt... in fact they don't have fixed prices and you can bargain. I have years of experience on this in China so not easy to fool. But I didn't find this pen in China and there I think no chance to bargain for such original products, at least not much. So I was suprise to find it here and be able to set a good price. I also bought the original flip cover. Or it just could be that they try to ripoff all the white faces they see

Update, there's 2 on Ebay.com right now. I think only 1 is under $75 AND a US seller. When I search I only want US sellers. Hope this helps. You can set up 'saved searches' and even 'notifier' when the item matches your wish.

Questions over Note or Nexus

Hello,
I really love the look of the Note and the ideas behind it but I am unsure about this vs Nexus. I was wondering if you guys could answer some of my questions?
1. Is the screen really that bad, all the reviews on the internet say it is a disappointment but is it? Or are they just counting pixels?
2. Can the S pen be used everywhere? For example, if I was doing this post a Note 10.1 could I have hand written it and if so is it worth hand writing it or just using an on screen keyboard?
3. I am worried that if I get the Note over the Nexus, that the Note will be left behind after all the models receive Jelly Bean. Do you guys think it'll get left behind?
Thank you!
Check the multitude of other threads regarding this topic. I just bought one a week ago. All of my fears similar to yours quickly faded away. Yes, the s pen can be used everywhere, and yes it is amazing. It does suck waiting for jelly bean, but we will get it soon. Just know that even with ICS your tablet will do things no other tablet in the world can. Take the plunge!

Like I say in pretty much every thread, this tablet has pen input and if you need it then you'll love it regardless of the screen and build quality. That's not to say that the screen is bad, it's 'good enough'.

Would you recommend the tab 2 7"or the nexus 7?

I'm in the market for a 7 inch tablet. I've narrowed it down between the two. I've done a lot of research, and wanted to know your opinion. I know the nexus has the better processor, better resolution, and better os support. It doesn't have an ir blaster. I want to be able to use it to control my home entertainment setup. Does it work will with the tab 2? Thoughts?

I had this same question when these were still new. I chose the Gtab2 based on local availability and the included SDcard slot. I probably should have purchased the Nexus based off of better overall hardware and "real" updates. Touch Wiz blows and I got rid of it almost right away. Which then rendered the ir blaster worthless which actually worked well for me with the Peal app. There are some Roms available that have been customized and still have a functioning IR blaster but I haven't tried those yet and from what I've seen probably won't.
With that being said, I don't pay any attention to what is thought of being obsolete. Everything I own is obsolete. I'm sure its the same with most people. In spite of my growing annoyance with Android in general I'd say that my GTab2 running PacRom 4.2.2 is going quite well.
Gotta choose what fits your needs. There's enough differences between the two tabs that makes this decision a no brainer once you decide what your device needs to do. Now you got me thinking I may go buy a Nexus 7 and flash this tab back to stock to use as just a remote and maybe some lite surfing. With my theatre setup Peel can eliminate 5 remotes just in one room

Thank you for your input. I know the nexus is probably the better choice as far as hardware goes, but I really want the ir blaster to control my living room. I already have a Logitech harmony to control, but I think a tablet would be much cooler, and more practical. I have a lot of components (computer, ps3, cable, network receiver, and a Wii) I hate touchwiz, but there are other launchers I can use. Does the tab 2 work as a remote well? Can you program it to do one touch commands? (As in hit one button, and have all the associated peripherals turn on and to the correct input)?

I wish I could give you more info on Peel. But I didn't spend much time with it. Day one while I was getting familiar with the tab I had only gone as far as getting everything to turn on and off. I was impressed with that because many reviews complained that the app didn't support the equipment they had but it seemed to support everything I have which is a mix of brands and quality levels. With that being said I don't remember having any issues using it as a remote. Not like some I've had years ago that need to be aimed like shooting at a target and I do remember being able to turn on all my gear with one button. Except the PS3. For the PS3 I used an app called BlueputDroid which turns your device into a keyboard or six axis controller.
I agree a tablet makes for one cool remote control but unlike most remotes you will need a outlet handy. Still very much worth it by getting rid of multiple remotes or at least being able go hide them away for all but the most rarely used functions. Keep in mind the device is not pretty but its not ugly either. The screen isn't going to blow you away but it won't make you want to puke. It won't win any benchmarks but it seems to handle everything I throw at it.

Well, I went ahead and pulled the trigger. I have it setup to control most of my components, but I still need to play with the settings. I'm not really impressed yet with the peel app, but I haven't given it enough time to figure it out. The tab 2 is a little sluggish, but nothing a root and custom rom can't fix. That's next on the list. I really appreciate your comments though.

Very few custom ROMs support ir blaster, I've found that the ones that do are more buggy than stock, which is what they are based off. To be honest, i also wasn't impressed with peel, always had issues, so i haven't been on stock or stock based in som e time.

i haven't experienced Nexus 7, my girlfriend got me my Galaxy Tab 2. i must say that i've spent literally hours and hours of my life with this sh*t.
do not waste your time and money, get the Nexus 32gb and do not deal with this microSd slot ****.
first it wouldn't let you use the 32Gb for everything, so you have to do a "swap" so you can install stuf in the microSD, then the frkn sh*t has ****ed up 2 microSD's, (the 2nd one today) i won't get a nother from the store because i lied the first time saying that it wasn't working from the begining and it would be suspicious to think that i got 2 bad microSD's from factory in less than a month.
so now i must get another one :S!
do not waste your time, nexus is the one.
Home entertainment set up is better with the GTab 2 but otherwise N7 is the better one.
When it comes to quality apps and smoothness I can't recommend any of todays android tablets.
Thanks for all the input. I appreciate it. I'm not disappointed with my purchase. I knew it's not the fastest out there, but it serves it's purpose. I'm still not impressed with the remote feature. Peel just doesn't do what I want. I'd like to be able to set it up like my Logitech harmony, so one button will turn on everything to the correct input. It does this for cable tv, but I'd like it to setup all the correct inputs for my ps3, computer, and Wii. Plus, I'd like an on screen remote, not just buttons with pictures of tv shows. Can anyone recommend a better app?
Also, I also rooted, and thinking about installing the latest sungsonic, but will it stop the ir blaster from working? I know most rom's do.

There are other remote apps, but i think they cost around 50 or so, and i have never used one, perhaps someone else on here has. I wanna say someone said they liked it better, but it may have been another forum.

Enviado desde mi GT-P3110 usando Tapatalk 2
I was considering either the nexus 7 or tab 2 also after my kindle fire broke about 2 months ago. I ended up choosing the galaxy tab 2 due to the sd card slot, the rear camera, and the ir blaster. I personally love it and it is working great. I mainly use it for gaming, music, and youtube and it handle all of those tasks great. I love how i can store my music on an sd card which allows me to have more storage space for apps and games. It plays all the games i have tried great ( which include gta 3, dead trigger, survivalcraft, scribblenauts, mini motor racing, riptide gp, and star wars pinball, which are fairly demanding games) and video playback is great. The peel app works great and is easy to pair with your home entertainment system. With all these features and good performance i dont see the need to get a nexus 7 and i would definietly recommend the galaxy tab 2.
The tab 2 is also $20 cheaper than the nexus at the moment at $179.

The more and more I use the tab 2, the more I love it. I really appreciate the touch squid app suggestion. I have the demo downloaded, and so far, it's working great. I also have my receiver (which is network capable) setup with my tab, so I can stream pandora anywhere in the house, and have full control without being in that room. I'm currently installing zone 2 speakers outside in my patio area. Anyway, 50 bucks to spend on a remote app is a little much, but if there isn't anything else that is better, I might just bite the bullet. I'm still searching, but if anyone else has any other programs they want to suggest, I'd love to hear it.
Another side question, I know you guys said most of the roms break the ir blaster. Any way I can tell which ones will break it? I'm rooted and itching to flash one, but I need the ir blaster.

Tab2lite and microdelta(maybe haven't tested it) are the only jelly bean roms , that i know of, that have ir support. There may be some ICS stock ROMs, not sure. Personally, i would suggest trying microdelta if it works, because tab2lite is based on an early leek and was slower than stock, for me anyways.

[Q] Stylus options

Hello guys!
I am looking for a stylus for my tab. I already have the cheap ones that have a huge tip on them. But now that im really getting to use it more, its not very accurate.
I have found this, Samsung Galaxy C Pen and this, iKross but they say it only works on Samsung devices? But its the same technology as the stylus i have now, so i was wondering what you guys use. I would love the iKross but im not sure if it will work. Thanks guys!

Samsungs have 2 digitizers in them. One is the standard finger type capacitive touch screen, and the other is more of a wacom digitizer that works only with their SPens. An SPen will not work on another device as its a type of magnetic RF. Speaking from experience...... I have a Note 2.

Samsungs have 2 digitizers in them. One is the standard finger type capacitive touch screen, and the other is more of a wacom digitizer that works only with their SPens. An SPen will not work on another device as its a type of magnetic RF. Speaking from experience...... I have a Note 2.

Yes i know about the Note-Type touch screens. But the C-Pen is not the S Pen. They state they will only work on the Galaxy series devices, which i know use a standard Capacitive touch type display. I did go ahead and get the iKross or whatever thy are called ones and they have a 30 day money back refund policy. So if they don't work i will just do that. Im pretty sure they will though.. Hoping, anyway,
that i kross looks nice mate
