[Q] htc update - HTC ChaCha

hey all.finally got my chacha back after 2months of it being repaired to no avail and now it's working fine yeyy. but i got a couple questions, anyone else has "car mode"? cause since i got it back and this pops up weirdly.and it just says press to exit car mode. and another thing i noticed was that i got new message notifications (the envelope is green, not white as it was)
now to my main question, i got my phone rooted and a custom recovery.can i update the phone without going back to stock recovery?cause i tried that and it fails.

I had also tried to update and it fails, too. I think we need to restore the stock first.

Well if your OTA is working you can try what I did before I sent my phone to the repair. Download an older RUU (or the same if there is a newer one available), extract from it Rom.zip and from that zip extract system.img, boot.img and recovery.img. Flash those three via fastboot and when your phone boots you will have a stock rom on it. Then just use OTA to update your phone to the latest version.

[Q] Returning to stock [i9020a]

I just wanted to make sure that I understood the process of returning my phone to stock before I make a mistake.
All I've done since I purchased the phone was root it and unlock the bootloader. I have not loaded any custom roms.
So If I understand this correctly I need to:
1) Flash the Stock Image (which should include the stock recovery?)
2) Use fastboot to lock the bootloader
The reason I'm wanting to return the phone to stock is to receive OTA updates. I never use any apps requiring root, and don't plan on loading any custom roms.
I never did find a 2.3.4 stock image for the I9020A..
you should actually be able to get ota updates no problem. it'll just remove root every time you update.
it's probably not a good idea to lock the bootloader though cause if you ever want to unlock it again in the future you'll have to wipe everything from your phone. your best bet is to just flash stock recovery so you can install the update
i'm pretty sure that works, but hopefully someone else can verify just so you don't get some bad information lol
I heard the same thing about OTA updates. If you're phone is rooted and you're using the original rom, you'll get the update but you'll have to root your phone once again.
I haven't tried this myself so I cannot verify it.
It's just the word on the street, you know!

you need stock everything, so stock kernel, rom, radio, etc... the op should be fine to update if they flash stock recovery though. rooting is simple from there

Thanks kibmcz ! I'm a n00b when it comes to this but when you say flash via ClockworkMod you mean get into clockwork recovery mount the usb, transfer the zip onto the SD card and then <<Install from zip>> ?

Thanks again kibmcz, so I just completed the flash, then did a fastbook oem lock.
Seems to be working fine except for one thing...
When I go into settings and hit Sound I get a Force close when I try and select a new ringtone...
Should I try reflashing again?

Using my zip yes... it flashes Bootloader, Radio, Boot, System and on first boot (and any other time recovery changes) Recovery is flashed. All you got to to is lock the bootloader and that wipes user data and usb storage.
hey man i appreciate you coming forward with a solution, ive yet to recieve the phone but wanted to prepare.
my goal is to flash everything back to stock and start completly over whereas i have no clue what method was originally used to root and unlock the bootloader.
when the time comes hope you dont mind a PM if i have any extra questions.

Just did the method using the stock ROM provided by kibmcz "thanks BTW!"
Phone is back to stock, working like it did when I first bought it. Had a little trouble with some Force Close issues but did a factory reset/data clear of the cache and all that before re-flashing, and it seems to be working Vanilla!

[Q] HBOOT update

I recently s-offed my sensation using JuopunutBear and then managed to downgrade to HBOOT 1.18 because I was trying to downgrade the radio. I was facing the WiFi "error" and figured it might just be the radio so i downgraded it
That did not solve my problem and i decided to revert back to ICS rom to try something else and i flashed the rom and it wont boot
I tried other roms but nothing i selected booted. I did try flashing boot.img using adb but that didnt help either
all i need is to be able to go back to 1.27 HBOOT, remain S-off and somehow figure out how to get the WiFi working

tired flashing boot image using smartflash 4ext and manually
both failed
tried wifix told me it couldnt fix the problem and asked me to send an error report which I couldn't coz i had no wifi

needless to say I've tried several different roms and also changed the radio to 10.something and it still would't work

That is weird, hmmm. Maybe if you return to stock via fastboot? There is a how-to thread explaining how to do that. Otherwise I am not sure. It worked when I did it. Will check if there is another way.

i'd love it if you can find a solution, i'll try to look for one too on my side

Update received - flashing via TWRP?

Hey there fellow U11 Users,
I just received the update concerning 60fps HD-Video etc. I use TWRP so the update can't be installed by itself. So I have two questions:
A
Where do I find the update file. I looked around a lot but couldn't locate it.
B
Once found, can I just flash it with TWRP?
Thanks in advance!

list your steps your using to install the ota via twrp....personally, I let the system initiate the install (booted into OS) as if I was 100% stock, once twrp loads, it automatically installs except for the firmware.zip
more details here...
OK, I am a Noob to the HTC world. I am used to easy flashing/rooting/etc. on Nexus devices.
TWRP doesn't do anything after accepting the ota. When I try to install the OTA via TWRP I receive Error 7. I worked my way through a lot of guides here on XDA concerning manual OTA installing. One thing I tried was flashing back to stock recovery which I found in the firmware.zip of the OTA in bootloader mode. That failed also ("FAILED (remote: not allowed on PRODUCTION device).
Edit: The device has obviously an unlocked bootloader, s-on, rooted via magisk and is a DGLU device, software number 1.16.400.5
Are you on an Untouched System Image? Completely stock ROM? While it is great we can flash the OTA in TWRP, the system stills needs to be stock, and of course will still have to fastboot firmware.

I didn't try it because the buyer wanted to keep root.
You can flash it from sd or from fastboot (PC) . If the fw number is the same on your u11+ then it should work, just verify md5 to be sure that the download was not corrupted
Tried to flash it via TWRP but it says it's corrupt

Thank you for your reply. To see if I get it correctly:By sd,you mean my micro sd card?I have Twrp recovery. No problem, right?I have Skyline.I delete it and wipe cache/storage etc,ok and I boot into download mode.So it will recognise it and do the rest by itself?

glad to hear it worked
you should first take ota, after you will find the already patched boot image here on xda and just use it for magisk or could create your own (but you should twrp to extract original boot image or wait for ruu for latest version to take it from there)
or maybe could be possible to extract original boot image from ota but I never did that so I don't know

Have just wiped the internal storage on TWRP HTC u11 Pus
Hi guys I really need your help here, I have wiped the internal storage of my "HTC U11 Plus" I did not make a back up either, TWRP recovery is installed and the boot loader is unlocked, this is a uk model. I would be most grateful if someone could tell me how to install the stock Rom back on to the phone or if someone will just be honest with me & tell me that the phone is just a paper weight now. I have spent some time looking for a stock rom on various website & also contacted HTC uk customer service who basically told me to f**k off, cant believed they would not help on a phone that cost £350, also I will sell the phone to any one on the board in the uk if they want an immaculate HTC u11 Plus.
