[Q] Sound issues with Paranoid Android v1.9.7 for Desire S - HTC Desire S

Hi all,
I rooted my HTC Desire S yesterday and installed Paranoid Android v1.9.7.
Phone worked well yesterday.
Main problem is
Today, there are some sound issues.
No sounds (like usual call connection tones) while making/answering calls.
You can make/receive calls, But, no sound from speaker/microphone.
Also, no ringtone sound. Just vibration only.
After installation yesterday, calls and ringtones all worked well.
Music (mp3) doesnt work now.
Please help me.

Sound Issue
A lot of JB roms have the sound issue. It seems to be a bug in all the ROMs based on Andromadus kernel 3 source. The bug is very strange, for some the problem is from the start, for some after the first call, for some after a few days of use, and for some this sound issue never occurs. Paranoid Android v1.9.7 used a previous version of CM10 as base which in turn was using kernel 3, the latest CM10 builds by nk11 are on kernel 2.
I suggest you go back to a ICS rom (fallout, ice_ds, etc..) or give CM10 a try if u want to stick with JB (I am using CM10 for 2 weeks now with no sound issues).

Thanks

Thanks a lot for the info, tech_gooner.
I rooted the phone with PA v2.14
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901739
After 2 days of usage, sound works.
I hope the PA goes for kernel 2.
I will go back to ICS HTC RUU, till new PA with kernel 2 comes by.
Thanks a lot, again.

Try and get as many people to star that so perhaps the developers won't keep telling us it's "Hit or miss" and not a big issue.
BT on the stock 2.3.4 that came with the new baseband works. i know its not a custom rom but it is official and works pretty good

Yeah i ran official GB for a long time before switching to CM7. I dont mess with custom roms besidides stock CM, no one makes their own roms any more they just take CM and customize i think iv seen one or 2 ROMs that wernt just CM rips and they are not being updated any more its sad but what can you do. I wont switch back to stock because i love the T15 kernel and all the custom options in cm, i forgot how much i missed the black background messenger.
I am currently using Owain's Domination ROM v.77 w/new baseband and bluetooth audio is working just fine. That said, Owain just released v.78 and there are a number of bugs (bluetooth and wi-fi among them). I am sure he will have them addressed in no time with a fix all update but if you decide to go the route of Domination I would choose v.77 which is a really nice ROM for daily use. My battery life using Harsh's kernel is amazing!!
Update: Was working fine. Now my BT sounds like crap.

call quality isus.. need help.

Hi,
I had sky ics 4.04 and people who i called said they can hear me perfect.
But i had some bugs in that rom (touchwiz crashed alot, and not fully support of hebrew languige, wich i need)
I tried a lot of roms (slim bean, super lite, nightly..) and they all were fast, stable but with call quality problems. (The other side find it difficult to jear me)
I tried to swich some radio's, but nothing got better.
My currect rom is nightly 4.2.2 cm10.1 (wich is perfect! Except the call quality)
With radio: ucli3
Kernel: cyanogenmod 3.0.63
Why do you think the cause for the good quality on the skyics 4.04 ? , mabe the kernel?

AFAIK radio/kernel/signal are all that should affect call quality. You could probably mess with your build.prop some but you'll have to search around for that.
IMO there's only two ROMs out there that I would use right now, Latest Stock ODIN or JellyBAM.
JellyBAM is flawless, I have ZERO problems with it and it has EVERY feature you can imagine (literally).
If you're looking or a fresh start to trial and error, try JellyBAM. It's stable and loaded with features.
As far as radios go, UCLL3 is the best radio that I've found, but you could try the new UXUMA7 from the Rogers JB release, might work better for your location.
Nibbles v0.1.4 is a nice kernel and I haven't had any problems with that either.

[Q] Constant reboots on latest nightlies

Guys, am I the only one getting constant reboots on the latest nightlies? I load up a nightly (have tried 3/17, 3/19, 3/23 so far) and I clear data cache and dalvik prior and post load. I also load the newest 4.2.2 gapps for jb.
The phone reboots itself on everything from Temple Run to basic browsing to music playing through Bluetooth. There seems to be no rhyme, reason, or specific app causing it.
I am using the built in kernel... Is this kernel instability I am seeing?
Please tell me I'm not the only one experiencing this. I am a big fan of cyanogenmod, have used it on many phones over the years but this has been very unreliable for me.
Thanks, Brian
Did you try to fix permission using cwm or ROM manager? That might help. if not, try aokp 4.2.2 or liquid smooth.

Ok so I fixed permissions on 3/23 cyanogenmod nightly, still constant reboots. Then I flashed aokp (hilbert) newest nightly based on 3.0.68 kernel and I am getting the same problem.
Is there any other way to troubleshoot this? Can someone else speak up who is running the newest night lies without FCs or reboots so I know I'm not crazy.?
Thanks for your IMs as well... I will definitely try newer builds.

I didn't get constant reboots but I did get random reboots from time to time.
I also noticed the latest nightly I ran (3/23) seems very slow.
My fix was to restore my backup of CleanRom and I may just not return to CM 10.1.
Lockups and random reboots have been discussed for the last few pages in both the thread in this section and the dev section, commonly seems to have started 3/18 nightly when they switched over to the 3.4 kernel..newest nightlies were supposed to have some fixes merged but I haven't tried it yet
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2071252&page=124
personally had the issue on both 3/20, 3/21 , rolled back to the last nightly on the old kernel which is 3/17 and haven't had it happen since as for AOKP I don't use that so couldn't tell you what the issue is with that ROM

My thought is that in my case there may be something else going on. So far I have tried Cyanogenmod 3/17,3/20 and 3/23 nightly, a 3/23 nightly for AOKP, and now I just installed CleanROM 6.2 R2, which is Android 4.1.2 based. I think most of these kernels are 3.0.x based. I am definitely still getting occasional reboots and FCs but I will say it seems CleanROM is the most stable.
The common thread on all of these builds seems to be that the most instability occurs when attempting to connect to a bluetooth device. That is when I get the constant reboots. I'm talking like you start to play a song, and it gets through half way and just completely reboots itself.
I'm going to keep trying here, but I might have found the common thread in bluetooth instability.
Does the 3.4 kernel report as 3.4.x on the newer nightlies?
Yes it shows in the settings, I personally haven't had any issues with connecting or using my A2DP rocketfish Bluetooth headset even when I was on the newer nightlies with the 3.4 kernel, it was more of hadn't used the phone for a while went to turn the screen on and it wouldn't come back had to battery pull.
Haven't had a single problem since rolling back lockup or otherwise so I'm watching the main threads to hear when they get the issues with the kernel figured out before flashing anything newer

Manual Fix for Known 4.2.2 Audio Crackle?

Hi all,
I have been updating my wife's Infuse with the unofficial CM10.1 build by Scott. When I first installed my wife's 7/14 build (CM10.1, JB 4.2.2) we have NOT experienced any audio crackling. Several nights ago, my wife encountered the crackling noise in videos she's taken using her camera.
I know the issue has been fixed in 4.3, but since this is the first 4.3, I am not very sure that my wife will be able to deal with a few instabilities here and there (which has been the approach I've been following for my wife's installations; waiting a month or so for each version until it stabilizes a bit).
My question is: Is there a manual way of fixing the audio crackling issue (change a setting, edit a config file, flash a ZIP, etc.) that I can perform in the 07/14 build? Or is it a code change and I'm SOL?
Thanks in advance!

The problem is caused by viper audio. You'd need the app removed and the lib file...it would have to be built without it included ahead of time.. If you have to stay on 4.2.2 downgrade to the first version without viper. If you don't care then just update to 4.3

When you say it would have to be built without it ahead of time do you mean this isnt a modifcation that can be made once the rom is installed?
I would like to use Unofficial CM10.1 - 4.2.2 - 7/14/13 version of this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776129 and not have choppy audio.
I cant upgrade to Unofficial CM10.2 - 4.3 - 8/5/13 because -
Cannot send or receive MMS because of crashing mms aplication
Front facing camera images with high ambient light crashes the camera (crashes or freezes whichever app your using)
Cannot use Titanium Backup to "modify" system applications (a bug in Titanium that only happens on Android 4.3)
Thanks for your help

No, it unfortunately isn't something you can modify on your own. As far as the MMS crashing problem I saw a commit earlier by slimroms that fixes that so Scott will probably add it in by the next build. The other problems will also be fixed in time, 4.3 hasn't been out long...just give it time

Is it possible for someone to create a zip containing the audio crackle fix that can be flashed via CWM? Or is that out of the question?
If someone can pinpoint the library that needs to be updated and with what version (i.e. grabbing a version from a later build), I can look into how to create a flash-able zip to fix the issue. I would appreciate it even more if someone else did it.

[Q] Need Help With Cm12 nightly 5.0.2 ( audio Issues)

Hi i am currently using Cm12 Nightly 5.0.3 030315, With cm stock kernel. When i play audio thru my car Bluetooth it skips after ever 5 to 10 sec. If i watch video, the audio is delayed. The audio works perfect on regular bluetooth headset. The troubleshoot i did fix this problem so far.
Tried ever build after 02/21 till now still same thing.
I tried custom kernel like franco and elementalx. Did changes in hotplug while using franco kernel. Change Processor setting to performance under cyanogenmod. I have been trying find the fix but with no luck. The only thing that works is if i go back to cm11. Once i do that everything is normal.
Side Note, Every time i installed the Rom it was clean install.
Any help is appreciate at this moment. Thanks in advance.
No such issue here. Try full wiping and then reflashing CM.
thanks for reply. I did that several time. But with no luck. Any other suggestion ??

I recently had BT issues on CM12 and I do think that's a rom issue. Other users also reported bugs with BT.
Flash every nightly until the fix comes or switch to another custom rom for the moment.

I have the same problem with a 32GB nexus 5 and the recent cm12 nightlies, I have found a dozen or so forums/pages about the problem but nothing that seems to help. I have tried flashing different radio.img file and different kernels, the problem only happens in my car, my bluetooth headphones and everything else works fine. My car can take phone calls but not play back music/audio from anything without skipping every 5-10 seconds for ~1 second
That's because CM team still don't get, that it's better to start building a house from the ground, then from the roof. It's a kernel related issue.
