MIUI GB Themes - General Questions and Answers

Hello all,
This is probably going to be a shot in the dark but, here goes nothing.
I recently had moved back to MIUI (GB to be more specific) still quite unimpressed with how downhill things went with ics for them .
I do terribly miss the new ics/jb features that were lacking in GB but the customization levels one was able to attain in GB is just not available for me in the new version of the rom.
E.G. fonts, carrier name changers, little things like that that made my exp on GB excellent.
Writing this post to basically ask if anyone has a link to a repository of GB themes or a dropbox or anything like that. Or if you're still on GB and have some nice themes you would like to share with me.
I've done quite a bit of searching myself, found a few themes here and there, some lockscreen themes also.
A lot of the themes i found were a little older and sometimes not completely skinnned.
The theme market also obviously has some themes but, not like it used to. Guess some authors took down the old ones to port to V4?
Any links, zips, etc, would be greatly appreciated, thanks for taking the time, to read and any help provided (=

I would be interested in this - I have recently gone back to MIUI GB - but finding all the v2.3 themes is really hard.
Is there any easy way to find them or maybe collect them at one thread???

I need this too. Sorry to revive an old thread. Bump

good luck to the both of you. after over a year on miui, i've decided to move on.
pretty sure there's still a ton of stuff around here, you just have to have to patience and do a lot of digging (=
(if my newb-ness could figure out how to delete a thread, i would have)

Hi guys

Sup xda, my names Bilal and this is my first time posting here. I do have a question though but I've got a lot I want to talk to you guys about
I got my tmobile mytouch 3g about 4 days ago. On the first day my cousin had already told me about this site and how beneficial it would be to me real soon xD. The next day I had already begun looking up important things i needed to know to end up with a custom rom on my phone. I looked up the specifications to my phone (like checking the radio and SPL versions) I found out my phone was a 32B and had new SPL and Radio. I found out the Roms that would be compatible with my phone as well as the method to go about doing it. the next 2 days basically consisted of my going through over like 15-20 different methods over my phone (but all of them basically had the same routine). I mean, you have to root it then get a custom recovery than flash the custom rom. But this is simplified as I'm pretty sure i searched and found 3-4 different ways for the simplified root recovery rom steps. Anyways it was real frustrating since I failed many times on all 3 steps . Anyways with the new SPL Radio 32b Mytouch phone 2.2.1 (since i idiotically upgraded it to 2.2.1) just flashed cyanogenmod 6.1.0 about 30 minutes ago. Haha I'm so excited to see the possibilities.
I wanted to thank this whole site and the people from the unlockr because i searched a ton of guides and Google'd over 50 questions to figure out the process suited for me and even though it ended being extremely easy compared to the people who had to work hard to develop all the things involved in making Rom Manager, Clockworkmod and Armons Custom recoveries, and every easy step in the process that we take for granted. I didn't have a clue in programming scripting developing software or ROM's for anything before flashing my phone. After doing it I still don't have much of a clue even though I feel like I did learn a whole lot I know I'm way more interested in learning how things work.
You could have probably skipped this whole essay and went straight to the question though xD.
My question at this point was what exactly are all the possibilities (or some that I'm not aware of) that my phone has now that it has flashed cyanogenmod 6.1.0
One thing that I have definitely noticed and feel that alone, was worth the 4 days of tirelessly failing, is that my phone has become a lot faster, and I mean in everything that it does, from opening applications to loading videos on youtube. I know I could probably search this as well but I just wanted to advice directed towards me as far as what to do next? Ive been messing around with the themes (can only use ADW as far as I know) but was wonting to find a live unlock pattern screen? I found one on youtube and I'm 90 percent sure the guy had the exact same phone as me. Also any advice on details for upgrading the overall performance on my device would be great help.
Thanks guys glad to be here
Glad that you learned some stuff. Stay around here for a while and you'll learn alot more. Anyways, yes, there are many possibilities available for you. For one, I would advise updating to CyanogenMod 7. Just go here: http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/htc-slide and choose a category to suit you. NB: The "Experimental" build category is not as "dangerous" as it sound. These build are actually Release Candidates which mean they are almost (if not) good enough to be a Stable build. Since you're just beginning, you may just want to use a stable build for now. But later on, you may change your mind. There are also many apps you may want to try like: SetCPU (to make your device even faster than it is now and/or to save battery life, Titanium Backup, Rom Manager, etc. ADW is NOT the only launcher you can use. It just came as the main launcher for your rom. There are many other launchers like Launcher Pro, etc. For the "live lockscreen pattern, you could try Ripple Lock (Honeycomb Lockscreen) or the sense 3.0 lockscreen found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1190071 . Cheers!

[Q] MIUI type look on CM7?

I finally convinced my fiancee to sell her ****ty, 3rd hand, iPhone 4 and get a Nexus S.
Yay, the geek in me rejoiced as I could root, OC, and flash ROMs again. (I stopped on my Desire when I found CM7). We first tried MIUI and she loved the look of it, but it felt rather unstable (lots of freezes and sudden reboots) so I installed the latest CM7 nightly. While this seems a lot more stable and is also faster, my fiance dislikes the fact that much if not all of the interface is black. We tried several themes and launchers but a lot of black still remains, so I would like to be able to make all menus, all pages (especially the settings page) everything be not black. White would be gorgeous for her...
I did search and we tried a lot of themes and launchers but none of theme did a complete "re-skin" of the interface.
Your suggestions please?
Try a different kernel on miui.
Any one in particular you recommend? I tried Franco, netarchy and the default MIUI kernel.
Still this is is not what I asked. We already decided CM7 was the faster and more stable of the two?
The way the menus are displayed on MIUI is only found on MIUI. That's one of the things that differentiate it so much from the other custom ROMs. I must say that the days I tested MIUI, stability and speed wasn't the reason why I ditched it. It ran really stable and fast, too. I tested Brainmaster's, god knows with which kernel
On CM7 you get Theme Chooser. This is the only way you can easily change the look of your phone.
I did a quick search for you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1189723
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302004
If you want to get your hands really dirty, you could always make your own theme, or atleast change some things you really want to see changed.
Greetz
Thanks man, you rock!
Could you point me in the right direction if I were to try making a theme? What do I need? I looked at UOT kitchen but it doesn't seem to be able to do what I'm after.
You're welcome
XDA has an Android Theming section (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=527), in it, there's a sticky with a lot of information about getting started:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916814
Read through that section though, it has a pletorea of information about theming, many people ask good questions that can be relevant to what you want to accomplish.
It's challenging, but if you have some knowledge of how Android works and some basic computer skills, you can surely get somewhere after a few days of hard work

Try different kernels on miui. I use fracos
i have been running on BrainMaster's MIUI for moths now, everything is good , well , except battery life , but it happens to all MIUI , pretty UI requires more battery life , fair enough.
i would suggest you to try BrainMaster's MIUI + franco kernel

I seem to recall (from when I used CM7) that if you install GO EX as your Launcher, you do have a specific full theme called MIUI.
^
I'm pretty sure the Settings page will still be black, just like what @frutelaken mentioned earlier.

Could be - as I mentioned I just seem to recall as it is a long time ago - but honestly, for some reason I believe it was white indeed when the MIUI GO theme was applied via GO EX Launcher. Best to do (since it doesnt really involve much nor flashing or anything), download GO Launcher and browse for said theme and try...

Sorry I can not. I personally can't stand miui so never mixed and matched the various kernels and roms.
For a CM7 rom, I recommend MarkVis's modded version which can be found in the development section. For a kernel, I recommend Peter Alfonso's kernel which can be found on his website.

[Q] Beginner's questions

Yikes, I feel terrible for asking questions at such a basic level, but despite my tries, I haven't found an answer on the forums. If I missed anything obvious, please do point it out!
I've got a fairly new Samsung Infuse from AT&T, and I've been trying my hand at customization for a fair bit - graphic design is, in the end, the one thing I can say I'm actually good at. But between launchers, widgets and icon packs, there's only so much you can do, and the device does feel rather sluggish. At 109 apps, opening the app drawer takes up to 20 seconds, which is far from ideal.
I've been reading into custom ROMs and their possibilities, but I'm not entirely sure I understand their functionality and how to install one, so I'm hesitant to use one. Could anyone point me to some more information regarding this?
For the record; the device is rooted, and I'd like to think I know my way around a PC.
Here ya go bro.....
Maybe this will help...read carefully..

Welcome. Know that you have a decent phone with a gorgeous display.
Pick a thread and start reading.
Look around the themes and custom designs.
Read my post in the q,a section to get an idea if you wanted to were interested in flashing
20 seconds sounds ridiculous ._.
custom ROM's are fast, much faster than the stock one thanks to their being optimized. whilst i'm running on MIUI right now cause i got bored, i personally recommend the latest build of CM7 with the thunderbolt tweaks, definitely the fastest setup right now.
since you're already rooted, that makes things easier. you can simply hop onto the market, download ROM manager, load it up and flash CWM and you'll be ready to flash a different rom. just download the zip, copy it onto your phones internal memory, reboot, and follow the threads instructions (typically just wipe data/cache and then select the zip you want to install).
Thank you all for your posts!
Your links have cleared up a lot of things, and I'm currently getting ready to flash the latest CM7. I'll look into the thunderbolt tweaks as well, it looks rather interesting. Once again, thank you.
In my experience the stock rom is pretty snappy. I tried infused a long time ago with its voodoo file system and it was noticeably slower. Now I'm runnning miui and its damn quick. I just hope I can get this garbled font problem resolved.
Install miui and you'll understand why you would want to root. Alot of these roms are pretty close to stock aand overhyped but miui is a total rework and full of awesome.

[Q] Cyanogenmod 10.1 / JB - new compendium of 4.1+ roms ??

First Id like to thank all the dev's for keeping this cool mts4g device alive! Sad no replacement options on the horizon with hw Keyboard. So than you all very much (I love this phone). Anyhow as to my question on cm10 it lools like there are quite a few different ROMs in development some supposedly official and othersnot so much. I was hoping someone could start a compendium / bible on the different 4.1+ roms and how they differ, perhaps also indicating if development is still in the works. Definitley looks like a lot of activity in the dev section, and just thought it would be cool to have a document as outlined above.
But it would be really cool to keep tabs on what's available and to assist devs with debugging. With all the threads, its hard to keep them all straight and follow all of their progress, and some terms such as HALO and what not - (not even sure what that means) ; ill do some reading later on this but think a compendium on the latest roms would be good way for devs to showcase their work.
Again devs, thanks again for your efforts in keeping this device going.

I too think this is a really good idea. While I love GB, I know that eventually I'm going to want to move to ICS or JB, and until someone makes a phone as incredibly awesome as this is (touchpad, physical keyboard, incredible camera) I'm going to stick with it. So it would be really cool to have a single thread or doc that included all the best ICS/JB Roms for this phone.
Weekends all ready has a mirror thread that includes links to most ROMs, there will never be a thread discussing which ROM is best as it is against xda rules to have such a thread.
Besides that is very subjunctive at the least, you will get the same advice from everyone here, try out a few ROMs, read the op for any bugs or for what makes the ROM unique, make nanadroids, try some more
Unfortunately you won't find an easier method here

Dumb question, but what's a nanadroid?
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using xda app-developers app
Nand flash android backup, there are two types of backups to do to android phones, bart backups (uncommon) and nandroids, it like a save point, copies everything about phone (almost like a snapshot but more of a restore point) usually done in recovery

Backups of your installed ROMs so you can switch around with different ones, do some experimenting, but always quickly reinstall your favorite / stable one with all your settings and apps intact.
edit: what he said.

Guess I was envisioning more of a table showing status of said roms - perhaps something like the table at :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_disk_encryption_software
except showing the name of the rom and status (latest version), whether development still ongoing, supported features working, etc...
for instance i really like miktouch rom but found out there is no further developments after miktouch 0.7.... this is good to know, also im always confused about some of the titles of the roms cm10.1 official vs unofficial and additional goodies thrown in - halo, etc... would just be nice to have a visual comparative list of features and what not so users can choose which to test out... guess im just not in the habit of flashing a ton of different roms... and would rather like to see what a rom offers before i flash vs after....
I wasn't suggesting this table/chart of sorts to find the "best" rom as like demkantor said as that's pretty subjective...

[Q] rooted running cm10.1 what now

So I rooted my phone I'm running CM10.1 on my Verizon galaxy s3 I've tweaked my build.prop file and now I'm not sure what else to do lol. Excuse my punctuation I'm not to careful when typing off my phone but any ideas would be appreciated I'm new to the forums and I've been hunting for days also I'm totally up to trying to create my own ROM too I'm extremely interested in everything you all do and would love to try and maybe learn some things.thank you very much in advance.
Well a few ideas are to change icons packs, wallpapers, flash kernels, themes (may not be any for AOSP 4.3 until its stable), try PIE for roughly ten minutes, and customize my softkeys. I'm more of a stability guy but I try out AOSP nightlies/betas every so often to get away from TW for a few days at a time. I like the change. Biggest change is to try a different rom and do it all over again haha I can't help you in regards to developing roms cuz I haven't looked too much into it. Others would have to suggest starting points for beginning rom development.
