On SCv7(Leak#2) and Shogun I can browse fine with Firefox, Dolphin and Opera. However stock browser, Play and the rest I get no connection. My APNs are set, I tried all build.prop edits I could find, I've set the network config to GSM(PRL) using the Network app. Nothing seems to help. My service is HSDPA 2100.
EDIT:APN needed slight modification compared to Gingerbread.

I am having strange problems on my brand new HTC Touch Pro when I am using Opera Mobile. Everything is working fine as long as I am not activating the HSDPA-mode on my touch pro. If I am using GPRS - everything works fine. If I am using UMTS (not HSDPA), I am also able to surf the web with Opera Mobile as long as I want.
But if I active HSDPA and do a softreset (which is needed to enable HSDPA), I am only able to use Opera Mobile for approximately one minute and then the connection hangs completely and I am not able to open more websites. The only thing I can do is manually disconnect the HSDPA-connection using the Comm Manager and then to reconnect. But this is very annoying if I have to manually disconnect and reconnect using the Comm Manager all the time...
I don't know why the hell this happens or what the reason is. The strange thing is, that this only happens if I am using Opera Mobile in HSDPA-mode. If I try to use Pocket Internet Explorer or other apps like Youtube that access the Internet, everything is working fine even in HSDPA-mode. Only Opera Mobile somehow destroys the HSDPA-connections.
But, like I said, Opera Mobile does not do this if I am using it in GPRS or UMTS(384kbit/sec)-Mode.
Am I the only one with this bug or can someone confirm it on his Touch Pro? Please remember that it only appears in HSDPA-mode!
Please, please, please tell me how I can fix this problem and how I can use Opera Mobile with HSDPA on my Touch Pro. The bug existed since day one after I bought the HTC Touch Pro. This means that I did not misconfigure it, this bug already existed when I bought the device.
I really tried a lot of stuff since then... I installed newer Opera Mobile versions, tried to install them on the device or on SD-card but that didn't help at all. The HSDPA-bug always remained the same, no matter what kind of versions I was using. And it also doesn't seem to be a Opera Mobile problem in general because everything is working fine in GPRS or UMTS-mode with Opera Mobile. Does Opera Mobile use different settings for GPRS and HSDPA-conections or how can this strange behaviour be explained?
werry strange problem
how do you activate deactivate HSDPA
i had this option in polaris but in raphael it.s automatic without restart
Here is the only way how I can enable/disable HSDPA (I have german language settings, I hope the english translations are correct):
Einstellungen (Settings) -> Verbindungen (Connections) -> Erweiterte Einstellungen (Advanced Settings) -> HSDPA/HSUPA
In this menu I am able to select between
- "Deaktiviert" (disabled)
- "Nur HSDPA aktivieren" (enable HSDPA only)
- "HSDPA/HSUPA aktivieren" (enable HSDPA and HSUPA)
If I select one of these 3 options, the device tells me that I have to do soft-reset to apply the changes. How come that I have to reset the device if I enable/disable HSDPA and you don't???
i try changing from HSDPA and HSUPA to HSDPA only. you'r right it request an restart
still i don't have your problem
but maybe i have an answer for you: if the network won't support HSDPA (or contract plan) then you will not have internet when connected to HSDPA
most probably you have H coverage but not right to usit
if the network won't support HSDPA (or contract plan) then you will not have internet when connected to HSDPA

Did you actually read my first post completely? I explained into the finest detail that I am successfully able to use HSDPA with all other applications on the device except Opera Mobile. And even Opera Mobile is able to open a few websites using HSDPA. But after 1-2 minutes, the HSDPA-connection hangs and I have to manually disconnect it. But again: this is not a general network error or device error because it only happens if I am using Opera Mobile, not any other application that accesses the internet. But I am repeating myself...
yes but i very much bout that is an opera problem
pocket explorer working may be a fake
also the fact that opera it is working for 1 - 2 minits
practically you still are on non H network for those 1-2 minits
Sorry, I can't follow you...
I am using HSDPA since many months on a couple of other devices, including an O2 HSDPA Surf Stick on my Laptop and I know that I do have a pretty good HSDPA network right here. If I am able to download videos using HSDPA with more than 1 Mbit/sec, then I am wondering what kind of "fake" you are talking about.

UMTS speed its up to 2 Mbps (0.25Mb/s)
HSDPA speed its from 1.8 Mbsp (0.225Mb/s) up to 7.2 Mbps (0.9Mb/s) (14 Mbps only theoreticly)
fake: you'r using an umts connection on a H capable network
m telling you to check the connection because i hade similar problem on a polaris if a set the h network and enter in a umts onlie covrege area internet wont work until i change the connection and reset
the problem was that my internet contract had just umts not H network acces
just trying to help

No, it it not in Germany. Default "UTMS", "3G" or however you will call it is limited to 384 kilobit per second in Germany. I don't know what kind of speeds you are talking about because your dimension units just don't make sense ("Mbps" vs. "Mb/s" vs. "Mbsp").... So like I said:
"default" UMTS = 384 kilobit per second
HSDPA = "more than" 1 Megabit per second
...which means that my connection is not limited to 1 Megabit per second! I just wanted to make clear in my previous post that it is more than default UMTS-speed and that I do have a working HSDPA connection.

I am really tired of repeating myself over and over again... I do have a working HSDPA conncection and it is also working on full speed on my HTC Touch pro. The only problems is that the HSDPA-connection is crashing in Opera Mobile. How often should I repeat the things that I already described in previous posts over and over again?
i would like to confirm that i appear to be experiencing the same problem with htc touch pro using opera 9.5
at first i just thought opera was only working some of the time for no apparent reason (this is when i switch to explorer and find it working fine) but after seeing this post, it does look like the non-working-ness is related to the hsdpa connection.
hopefully someone with more expertise than me will be able to solve this problem. thanks!
Now working...
Strange, I am now in "GPRS (HSDPA)" mode but Opera has decided to work again...
Working fully
For those of you who might be interested: -
I got a newer build of Opera Mobile 9.5 (2392) and everything is working great!
A big thank you to those that supplied it!
So, I connect to the WIFI at home (no proxy) fine and then I try to use Google maps. I try using the GPS feature and the 3G starts up. I have:
Disabled anything MEdia net and GPRS with Advance Config tool and DT
Disabled ATT hidden Proxy with builtin Cab
Selected "My Work Network"
Deleted Media Net and ATT ISP parameters
Slide to OFF the Data Connection
Still, when I try the GPS on G Maps, the slide goes to on and 3G starts.
Now the only thing that seems to fix this is to turn off AGPS, but I did not have to do that before.
Why would the GPS want to work with 3G Media Net and not by itself?
First...do you have a data plan?
If you don't...have you called your provider to tell them you don't want data access from your account?
Has it always done this, or did you change something recently?
Seach for "Modaco NoData"
Install
Run
Disable connections
Job done.

I dont remember doing the AGPS before, but for now that seems to work. I mean I have all the other stuff OFF. Oh wells. Even the NoData from Modaco does not work. The 3G still comes on. Weird crap.
Thanks to you all.
I'm using a rooted/flashed Telus Hero on the Rogers network. When on the Telus network all of my network connections were fine.
Now, on the Rogers network, I get the icon "3G" when the network connection is inactive, and "H" when it is active. On Telus it was always "H".
When checking email or using most apps, the network icon switches immediately, and the data connection responds quickly.
But when using any web browser, frequently (but not always) the icon does not change, and the network connection times out. I can fix this by forcing a gmail sync, but it is a pain.
Does anyone know what could cause this, or what might fix it? Are there different OS level network behaviors for the browser vs. apps in Android?
many thanks.

maybe you should try UC Browser 7.4 offers support WAP2.0, you can mengundugnya at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847784
It works for me with 7.2.2.51. I hardly ever use that browser though as for WinMo standard also Opera mini and Opera 10 are available that both work great.
I think that UC is also not using ActiveSync connections, so your device must not be connected to the PC when you try using it. It also asks if you want to use a WIFI connection if availble, which other browsers don't do. So it seems that UC is not using the standard hierarchy for connections but picks them in an own logic.
The normal sequence of connections is:
- AS (including Proxy Settings)
- WIFI
- GSM
it still doesnt detect the network, i tried to change the phone settings from http to wap but still shows the same result . opera mobile and opera mini work properly on both settings , uc browser java version. so im wondering what could be the problem.
I think UC-Web is a proxy service just like opera-mini. It is hosted in China and it may block certain regions of the world to access their proxy. UC-web knows your region by the geo-location of the assigned IP of your provider. Consequently it should not work on any device with the operator you are using for WEB access.
thanks . i will buy another operator sim card to see if that solves the problem.
Well, if they exclude Ghana from their service it should be the same for all operators in that country. A new SIM card will have the need to setup the GPRS settings for the new operator as well, so there is effort attached to swap and test this.
It could also be the other way round, btw. Not that UC-Web blocks Ghana form their service (in China), but that your local operator will not allow to access the internet (or China) from the GPRS settings that you have in the device.
So first test if normal internet access works (iexplore or any non-proxy service) and then check with UC-Web.
just fixed the problem. it seems uc browser does not with proxy. so i tried settings without proxy and now it works superb.
Hey everyone
For some reason bing maps does not seem to be working with directions when i am using cellular data; i usual get the error cannot connect to wifi or cellular data. I know my cellular data connection is working fine as i am able to use local scout, Ie and even Gmaps and it works fine. Bing Maps is also not accurate alot of the time either with it showing me to be around 2km away from my house.
If i am using wifi i am able to get directions but sometimes it says cannot find location even when i am clear view of the sky. I have had bing maps working previously and i prefer it to gmaps but this is really annoying me that it wont work. I want to format my phone but since you can no longer download metrotube i am reluctant. Any help would be great.
I should refer you to my thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412818
I had the same problem. It turns out that APN settings have to be re-entered using the ADD APN or EDIT APN button for your carrier after the latest update for WP7.
Hey thanks for the reply, i am on optus also but i have a unlocked HD7 which i purchased from mobicity.com.au, i use the HTC auto configuration app which is compatible with optus to set up my apn original.
Perhaps Optus has changed some settings as my brothers HD7 has the same problem. What apn settings did you add or did you get optus to send them out to your phone ?. I know with my previous phones when setting an APN for say mobile data there was separate sections to do so ie internet, mms but under WP7 it seems as if there is only one APN section.
Think i fixed it i just changed the celluar settings from Automatic to Yes Optus then added internet as the apn and it seems to be working fine now. I am so glad some one else had the problem it was driving me nuts.
No worries at all mate. It was driving me nuts as well. Its apparently a common (relatively) problem for people on optus since the last update. Glad its all fixed.
