[Q] [Question] No APN settings Optimus Hub on CM7.2 - General Questions and Answers

Hi everybody! I searched for more than one week about this, but I couldn't find a real solution....
I tried installing CyanogenMod on my friend's Optimus Hub, and I dramatically faced what someone called the "Funny SIM" problem: in simple words, it is impossible to save APNs, and so data connection is not available.
This, as my research suggested, is a compatibility problem between Hub's CyanogenMod and some SIM cards, the 128k ones. In fact, using a 64k sim made APN and data connection instantly work.
The problem is that my friend's telephone company told him that he can't keep his number downgrading to a 64k SIM, so he would have to change his number in order to have 3g/H working, and that would be a big issue to him.
My searches led me to this thread http://forum.xda-dev....php?t=1444328.
This is about Optimus One, and the problem seems to be the same, but the flashable zips in the thread seem to SOLVE their problem.
I downloaded and opened the "Funny-SIM-Fix-OldBB" .zip and had a look at the changes it made:
It replaced some libs and made modifications to build.prop.
I am not very expert in this, but tried replacing CM libs with the stock ones, using the names contained in the .zip I previously downloaded to locate them and then rebooted but nothing changed. APN were the same.
So, Is there someone who tried something else, or is willing to try now?
Thank you for your attention!

Hello
For my LG Optimus Hub e510 I tried the cm 7-9-10 mods.
All with the same effect
in case "APN could NOT be written/saved to the phone" as described by many users.
OK - this prob is described as the "funny sim problem" shown in several forums.
Users worldwide with 128bit sim cards told about this damned effect.
2 "Funny Sim" fixes existing( as much I know).
An old version and a beta. Only result(for my LG E510) after flashing in recovery mod.
Freezing in the boot procedure.
State of facts is actually, there is no idea to change it proper.
That means, with an 128bit sim in your android all these MODS are "no goes" in case of mobile internet via provider.
As it looks? Is it so?
XXX andreas

aw man so no solution for our hub? its been ages since it existed or are the cm devs not working on it any more? if yes does anyone know another good rom for the hub?

CM7 on D2G - issues with APNs, possibly Rogers specifically?

I'm posting this on the four android-related forums that I participate in, in hopes that someone has seen this before and knows what to do.
Here's what I had:
- Droid 2 Global, unlocked, rooted, with Fission ROM, using Rogers Wireless, a GSM network in Canada
- it had been working just fine for 5 months
Here's what I did:
- Used RSDLite and the SBF loader to flash the stock 2.4.330 firmware as seen here: http://droid.koumakan.jp/wiki/SBF
- ended up with a bootloop, as the directions said I would. cleared data and cashe, no problem, phone booted.
- started up phone, switched to GSM mode, entered APNs, immediately had data service, tested phone functionality, all was well, used APN backup/restore and APN Manager to make backup files of my APNs
- Used stock recovery mode to upgrade to 4.5.607 (gingerbread) firmware as seen here: http://droid.koumakan.jp/wiki/4.5.607_Firmware
- I used the file linked to from here: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/08/22/gingerbread-build-for-the-droid2-global-leaks/
- started up phone, switched to GSM mode, entered APNs, immediately had data service, tested phone functionality, all was well, used APN backup/restore and APN Manager to make backup files of my APNs
- rooted phone using the adb method that is out there. rebooted and confirmed root access. installed a couple apps that need root. tested phone functionality, all was well. used APN backup/restore and APN Manager to make backup files of my APNs
- As described here, http://droid.koumakan.jp/wiki/CyanogenMod Installed Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrap and ROM Manager in order to flash CWM. rebooted into CWM, factory reset, installed the latest release (10/06), and rebooted
- started up phone, switched to GSM mode, phone app crashed immediately (as is to be expected, based on known bugs), rebooted for it to take effect
Now here's the problem:
- phone can make calls and receive texts with no problem, but cannot get data. wifi also works.
- went into wireless settings, mobile networks, access point names, nothing shows up. Clicked "add APN". entered the APN info that had worked for me before at the past two junctions. hit menu button, then save. takes me back to the APN screen, but no APN shows up.
- repeated this cycle a few times following reboots, etc. Eventually the phone gets to the point where the "add APN" button will not even come up when the menu key is hit.
- during the above, was also checking the "network operators" setting. The phone does locate all of the networks that are "in the air" but no matter which one I choose it will tell me "your sim card does not allow a connection to this network"
- used root explorer to check /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db. There is a list of about 1500 APNs. There are multiple entries for Rogers including all of the ones I tried to enter that appeared not to save.
- used APN backup/restore and APN manager to attempt deleting existing APNs, restoring the ones that were known to work, etc. Nothing works. These programs do work, and when I check the telephony.db file I can see what they have done to the file, but they are unfortnately unable to make any APN "stick" at the APN screen, and apparently that is the only way that it will work.
more info:
- I've noticed that the list of rogers entries seems to get larger and larger as I go through this process multiple times. I may be wrong, but it seems that this telephony.db file might not actually get changed or updated when you flash a new kernel/firmware/mod/rom to the phone.
- I'm sure that the lack of a list of APNs and the "sim card does not allow connection" message are related. For whatever reason there seems to be a bug in CM7 where the telephony.db file has problems "talking" to the APN screen in settings. But it must not affect most people.
- yes, I have tried a new SIM card.
- yes, I have tried clearing cache, data, dalvik, and fixing permissions.
- Anyone else on Rogers Running CM7 on a D2G? If so, I'd love to talk to you. Maybe I could convince you to send me a working CWM backup. I imagine that if you're a conscientious rommer, you have a backup made folling a fresh install of CM7.
I used to do at one point. The froyo base 2011.08.13 version was the last one that worked for me. Newer ones boot looped if SIM card is inside, no matter what I do. I stopped trying after couple further releases all of which boot looped. Essentially quit using CM4D2G due to bluetooth not working with BT handsfree. Later, after the official Motorola GB release came, I have not even looked back. Since I like few BLUR features, especially dialler, the GB Motorola released suits me very well. With the doubled battery life and the MUCH BETTER GSM radio in 606/607 bulds, phone finally settled down and I can now rely on it.
I have CM7 on another of my phones - actually 2 of them - a Milestone and (recently) a HTC Vision - I love CM7.1 especially on the latter!
I assume your phone works fine with stock rom - right?
Edit: I have a XT860 which is in for repairs - once I get it back and I have a reliable daily phone I plan to experiment with the new GB based CM4D2G. Hopefully this week...

Yes, everything works really well with stock rom. I was quite impressed, as it was my first GB experience. Unfortunately, as with cars, I am all about the "options", and I can't seem to let go of a feature once I have experienced it. I love CM7 and I really want to make it work for my D2G.
I posted this same thing at the rootzwiki thread, and one of the head developers said "You my friend may finally have identified where the gsm data issues are coming from. it isnt just you, it's 98% of the gsm users that arent having data". Another user got me to change a couple of permissions. I thought he was onto something but it didn't work, either. Nonetheless, I think I brought enough attention to this issue and also gave them something to work with through all my trial and error. I am optimistic.
But, for now, I think I have to take CM7. I want my data! I am really tempted to just give stock GB a shot. But Blur scares me. Most people don't seem to like it, though I admit I don't fully understand what Blur is! I see there is MIUI and apex, angel Hexen and VenusX. I might have to try them first.
hallo!
had exactly the same problem! i bought a verizon phone an using it in greece!
But i simply dowloaded some APNs manager from the market and within 2 minutes my phone was connecting to the internet!! So if this worked for me i`m sure its gonna work for u too!!

Can you be more specific as to what you did? Because it sounds exactly like something I tried already. What was the exact name of the software you used? Was your problem 100% exactly the same as mine, or just similar? I literally can't make an APN show up at the APN screen at all.

Some people have this exact problem with the D3, looks like in the D3 placing the phone in airplane mode and then on again is enough to make the APN manager able to read the MCC/MNC codes and, consequently, to store the provided apn.
I wish it was that easy, but it's not. I have tried a number of solutions similar to that but no dice. I appreciate the attempt though.

For the record I have that problem on the D2g flashed with the latest builds of cyanogen rom, (with the same SIMs perfectly working on D3 and D2g with the stock rom), and the airplane mode trick doesn't works too.
So far I haven't found a solution
To get my wife's d2g to work in japan I had to use root explorer to manually edit a file. The file is located at etc/ppp/peers/pppd-ril.options mount the file rw and manually edit the user name and password to match your apn. Toggle airplane mode on off after saving changes and it should work.

Thanks, i guessed that if a proper fix may be hard to find, a workaround was easy enough, I'll try it later with the gingerbread froyo.

sounds interesting. I will give that a try the next time I flash CM7. I moved on to Apex. It's ok, but absolutely dreadful for battery life. I can't imagine CM7 is any better considering it has about 50 more bells and 125 more whistles. But I do prefer CM7 to anything else so as soon as I actually have some tweaking time again, I'll give this a shot.
Since both CM7 and Apex are built off the same firmware, I could just flash them overtop eachother, and wipe date and cache, right? As long as it's that easy, I could see myself trying this sooner.

[Q] HELP...Messed UP baseband/RADIO

Hello EveryOne:
I have been using this G2x as my second Android phone ever, the first one was HTC Aria..But before and for long years was Window Mobile man..LOL
I have changed the ROM after rotting and unlocking ,started with CM7 stable then moved on and have tried every ROM on this G2x android development forum.
The problem is, i have noticed after changed the stock ROM, that i can't receive international SMS anymore..,however i can send and receive delivery report(of course on tweaked Tmobile Stock ROMs only, as any CM7 ROMs or based ROMs having an issue for delivery report).
I have searched a lot here and there, till found one mismatching (incompatibility) between baseband (M660A...Jun 5) and RIL, even getRil software gave 4 options ,none of them matched with my baseband..
Have tried to change the baseband, of course failed..Tried every possible way..whether KDZ way or LG updater..
The only hope left for me, is that some one can give me the correct RIL for such basband
Plus i ahve to say, that any custom ROM would read the SMSC in very strange code..Not HEX one or even regular number preceded by (+) sign..
002B00310036003100330035003000300039003000300030
Can't update the SMSC, always gives me update error, even though with HEX coding of WIND SMSC number
But whenever get abck to WIND stock ROM, can read SMSC in normal way (+16135009000), but still can't update the SMSC by whatever way.And still no way to receive international SMS.
My entire problem, is i can send and receive local SMS, but international one i can send only and NO MORE RECEIVING(i was receiving before the flash at the first moment used the G2X)
Called the customer service and technical support of WIND thousands times, no one has an explanation for that..
Thanks afor your time and have wonderful day..
Go to your wind store and ask for a new simcard, I had the exact same problem before. They told me its due to some limitation to their old simcard. Once they give you a new simcard the problem will be solved, and just as they promised, i can now recieve signal again. In fact, my problem was way more serious lol. I couldnt even recieve signal, AT ALL. No matter where I went it is always a cross on the signal icon. And now everything is working perfectly again.
So yeah just go to the wind store, tell them your problem, and they shall give you a new simcard right away.
NO CHANGE
I have changed the SIM, still the same problem, i think something with SMS hidden options...Any kind of help...i have tried all the costumed ROMs...No way

[Q] SMS MMS Problems ICS

Hello everyone I have done extensive searches and found a few post about this but no real solutions except one person replaced their phone under warranty. The problem I have is I can't recive MMS SMS on any ICS rom have tried them all and all the versions. I have also tried the nullifier befor flash and fixing permissions various ways diffrent kernals diffrent gaps no luck. I have no problems with reciving MMS and SMS on anyother roms just ics any advice or input would be greatly appriciated

Which baseband are you using? If you're not using the July baseband, I'd suggest upgrading to it. Just search for July baseband and you should find instructions. If you're already on that baseband, try updating your RIL with the GetRIL app from the play store. If none of that works, try wiping cache and dalvik in recovery, then fixing permissions.
I have the new baseband and have tried numerous wipes and fixing permissions and also the getril from market. Has anyone one fixed this with a new sim card I have read if you can find an old style card things work better in the g2x?
Are you using WIFI at the time or mobile data? I have issue with MMS using wifi. Everyhting works as expected when using mobile data.
I can receive messages with wifi calling on and that is the only time I can get them on wifi or mobile data nothing
Hey I'm having this same problem. Has anyone else been able to solve this? From what I've seen, it seems that the OP and I are the only ones with this problem
I tried tons of other things and never got it to work correctly I ended up exchanging phone under warranty for 5 bucks and with the new unit had none of the problems that I was having with the old one so in my opinion it is a hardware issue that you can not fix with out changing out phone I ran across a few others that ended up changing out phone. The only thing I can recommend is somewhere I saw a thread where some people had flashed a experimental rom and lost the ability to text and they had to use some kind of at commands to the modem to get it back in the right mode you should be able to find it if you search the fourm

I was able to find this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19794570&postcount=9
but I'm a little confused because he says that he "saved" the settings or something after he clicked refresh, but I don't see any option to save. any time i leave that menu and go back to it, the numbers are gone again.
it has been my experience that even with completely stock, unrooted builds, MMS picture messaging does not work with wifi. even in jacksonville, fl and new orleans, la (both 4g markets), that while on wifi, if you receive a picture message and attempt to download it, the phone will connect to the 4g mobile data service to download it. it happened on both my g2 and my g2x. i want to say that with wifi calling turned on you can download picture messages, but im not entirely sure.

SIM Card & Network Problems (Invalid/Undetected/Etc) Let's Get Answers?

\I have the issue where the phone:
Reports an "Invalid SIM Card", "Please Insert SIM" etc. regardless of what carrier or generation of SIM card is inserted. This flip-flops somewhat consistently, ,
Gives an "Error While Searching for Networks" / "Unable to connect to Network now, please try again Later" when trying to manually register using Settings/Mobile Networks/Select Network
LG P999DW
Baseband: Mar 11 2012 |M6600 9720a || Carrier: T-Mobile
ROM: Stock V21y Rooted (Also experienced on Weapon G2X, CM10 Hackfest, AOKP m6 & m5b40, v21e)Screenshots of various settings INC
There are about 5 threads with similar reported problems scattered across Q&A here, 2-3 on RootzWiki, and various others at T-Mo's Official and LG's Support forums, so this seems to not be an isolated issue.
Is there a known solution to this issue?
Can users experiencing this issue, or similar issue, perform any steps to isolate the problem further in order to better troubleshoot it?
I apologize if it's been covered elsewhere or even in this thread (I just read it in it's entirety, though).
I am wondering if re-flashing the baseband is a possible solution to issues I've been having with Network Registration and SIM Card errors.
All threads previously came to end in despair, lack of a resolution, or varied musings on the possibility the Original SIM must be inserted prior to baseband flashing. or a baseband flash using an unsupported SIM causes corruption. Others have made mention that Wifi Calling & Certain SIMs don't jive, and claim a mismatched configuration of these 2 elements prior to a BB Upgrade can cause SIM issues. I find this a dubious, but possible given that this phone's HW/SW Config can seem like a goddamn Rubik's Cube at times.
Can anyone confirm or deny such a speculative claim, or perhaps give more information about the relationship between BB, RIL, SIM module, and Modem Settings? Anything special about the properties of any or all that could apply to issues of this sort?
I will try to consolidate the threads I've mentioned and put together a holistic index of all SIM-Related G2X problems, including better detail of my issue in particular. I'll do my best to rule out obvious cases in which the SIM Card slot hardware itself is obviously just effed in an effort to make this discussion more productive. If anyone has some input on how best to make this go smooth, send me a PM and I'll do what I can to facilitate.
I really believe there is a userbase that needs this help, but has mostly gone unanswered and ended up junking or RMA'ng the unit. As official support slowly recedes for the device, this solution becomes unrealistic and the benefits of producing user-enabled solutions will increase over time.
I have a similar issue with my LG G2X. Did you find a solution?

[Q] How is the Network Operator determined?

Hi Android-Guru's,
I need some help to research a weird issue that is happening for me on almost ANY custom ROM - mostly CyanogenMOD based, but it is consistent as well throughout all current KitKat builds including AOSP and MOKEE.
What happens is, regardless of which network operator I am connected to, the phone in status-bar and settings menu will always show my SIM card operator (Telekom.de). Even when I go to manual network selection menu and the list of operators is retrieved, I get a list of 6 x Telekom.de
Now the argument is correct, that this is cosmetic, it becomes tricky for me when I go abroad - which I do on a daily basis. So selecting the correct foreign network operator is crucial to save on roaming charges e.g. LUXGSM may be cheaper than TANGO, etc. however, I have no way to properly determine that, since the list will simply show 5 entries with "Telekom.de".
I have a XT925 (RAZR HD) and this works perfectly fine on stock. It works also perfectly fine on the early (10.2) CM releases. At some point starting with 4.3 firmware iterations, I started seeing the "wrong" - I researched google for hours and was directed to compare various eri.xml, spn-conf.xml and decompiled the framework-res.apk to see if maybe the methodology for displaying carrier name had changed between working and non-working builds, but couldn't find any difference.
So, since there are probably enough XT925 users out there, what are you seeing? Could this be related to my sim card which is fairly old (4-5years)? Where do I find the code behind carrier display in android?
appreciate your help,
Stefan

thanks for the feedback and the suggestion, Dorian - I tried it, but takes me to the regular network selection screen in the settings that just displays the list of "Telekom.de's" but good thought.
I wonder, what is different with my setup - might this be a baseband or modem issue?
I realized, that my phone number in status screen shows as "unknown" as well - but IMEI shows correctly, not sure if that is related.
still looking actively for an answer.. I tried to go back to stock with RSD Lite to see if any of my baseband or modem files is screwed, but I couldn´t get RSD to recognize my phone.. probably an indication that my device has some kind of issue!?
Anyone any ideas?
