seems like a hardware issue
U can try to do a factory reset in the Stock recovery to see if it fixes it. If not off to repair

As i think home button is soft button in the screen not hard button so no hardware involved but software problem try www.samfirmware.com to reflash stock rom again or www.teamhacksung.org to reflash cm10

It may be that the setting for the home key has been accidently changed. You could try this - on any of the home screens, pinch to reduce size. All the home screens will now be visble with a home emblem on upper right corner. See if this has been checked for whichever screen you want as the home screen. This is what I did when I had a similar issue. But am a noob and maybe you have already tried this.

I'm not sure how it happened but now when I press the home button it sends me to the wrong home screen. Instead of returning me to the center home screen it returns me to the screen to the right of what is supposed to be the center home screen. I can be on the center home screen and hit the home button and it sends me to the one just to the right. Any ideas? It started doing this after I let a friend of mine play with the phone and they have no idea how they did it. I'm downloading the instructions as we speak.
It depends on how many home screens you have. If you have 4 or less, then it always tries to send you to the farthest right one. Its annoying and an android thing, not a galaxy thing.
You have to reset what you want the default home screen to be.

In TouchWiz I don't think there is an option for setting the default home screen (otherwise there wouldn't be a mod for it in which you have to root). I know this topic has been dead for a while, but if there is some way to set the default, that would be great to know. Otherwise I'm sticking with LauncherPro.

One thing that seemed odd though, the home button aint workin, also, i dont have the slide function to unlock anymore.pressing the power button automatically wakes the tf. Havent noticed any1 mentioning this,so was wondering,is it just me or its the feature of these? This is my very first flashing of a rom and theme

I had the same issue this morning, I backed out to my home screen, then opened up tapatalk app. Then presses the recent apps button next to the home button and there was launcher in the list. After a picked launcher it started working again.

thanks for the response, but my issue seemed to be worst than what you had..guess i had a corrupted file or sumthin ..fixed it though by restoring to factory defs
I have a rooted g2x with a little problem. When it is flashed to the newest ics rom the face buttons (home menu back and search) sort of work but they are uncalibrated as the buttons are activated only when pressing above the image of the buttons. When it is downgraded to gingerbread the latest rom the buttons simply do not work anymore. When I press them the lights go on meaning they are not broken but it doesn't respond. Anyone can help me with that? I'm planning to make a video showing the problem when I get home
Sounds crazy annoying, try Googling it. Capacative buttons will got you better results then face buttons.

I did but still nothing man any way you can help?
I have noticed since yesterday's Jelly Bean update (4.1.1) that if you have an app open (say a browser for example) and you let your screen timeout, when you press the home button it will turn the screen on screen up and take you back to your home screen. Used to with ICS it would just turn the screen on and you could continue in the app. Now it takes you all the way back home and you have to re-open the app to continue in it.
I was wondering if everyone is getting this same result or if it is just me.
Thanks!
I just tried it with Google Now and it returned to the app. I tried the Android browser and it returned the app as well. You might want to power down, pull the battery, then restart. Updates can sometimes act a little wonky at first. Occasionally (and unfortunately) a hard reset can FINALLY make an update work correctly.
Fixed this issue on my phone. The solution for me was to set up S-Voice, then go into it's settings and check the 'open via home key' option. After this, pressing the home key once simply wakes up the screen instead of also taking it to the home screen. Hope it works for you too!

Yea, that fixed it. I don't like S-Voice so I had that option turned off. Apparently it works different with this update then it did with ICS.
I've actually went in there and enabled that option then went into Application Management and disabled S-Voice. Now, if I accidently double tap my home button it just goes to a black screen for a second then back to the home screen. (Better than opening up S-Voice)
Thanks for your help!
I've found if you use a pattern password the home button "feature", to go back home works like how it used to

Nice find! Now my dilemma is, whether the added "lag" when single tapping the home button is not as annoying as being taken to the home screen when pressing the home button after the screen times out. Having the double tap for S-Voice setting disabled speeds up that home button responsiveness.

I find the lag to be to annoying when s-voice is enabled. A fast press of the power button will wake up the phone without closing the app you are using and you can keep s-voice turned off.

grr, I couldnt agree more. I turned off that feature to reduce home button lag in ICS, now it closes any app open. Hopefully theres a fix
We'll find out. I dislike these small, unnecessary changes that Samsung has implemented. Horizontal pinch to expand notifications is another unnecessary change on VRBLK3.

Recently my power button has gone haywire when i press it, it registers as a long press and brings up the power menu. my screen will cut off and come up randomly sometimes it brings up the power menu. im currently running the latest version of MOAR but couldn't find anything to remap/disable the hardware keys. Does anyone know of an rom that will let me remap/disable the hardware keys or an app that would let me do the same. any help is appreciated thanks in advance.

You can always try "button savior" from google play but if you want a rom that has navigation keys then there are tons such as illusions rom and most of those other 4.2.2 roms
Solved my problem partially with button savior but don't is there a way to disable the hardware key?

The power button failure is a known issue with the S3. They usually replace the phone. FYI. It's commonly known as 'sudden death syndrome'

I looked up the SDS and some aspects of this lead me to believe this isint my issue what I'm having my power button ( I'm guessing due to using over time ) has become sensitive is the best way to put it the slightest touch will bring up as I did a long press to bring up the power menu so having it in my pocket will randomly bring it on and bring the power menu up. I'm still trying to figure out how to disable the key its self. If anyone had any input on how to disable it that would be a good temp fix till I can get an replacement

Well I disabled mine, just pulled the damn thing off and made a shortcut to shut the screen off....works for now until I get it replaced.
To follow up on this, a month and a half later I put my button back in. Guess what, works perfectly.
.....and time to sell lmao
