should i use a "battery saver" app? - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i seem to get pretty bad battery life with my tablet, about 5 hours,
i'm thinking of using a battery saver app, but i don't know if i should because i worry these apps will harm my tablet,
how do these "battery saver" apps work? it always runs in the background to monitor battery/change settings,.... so it even makes our tablet drain battery quicker? (because it always runs in the background)
some apps also have feature like "fast charge, continuous charge, fully charge cycle, trickle charge". how can it change the "charging way" that asus made? i heard trickle charge is charging with low current and help extend battery life, but how can it lower the current?
this is what i worry the most, does it do something that physically harm my battery?
if you use an app like this, do you see any battery life improvement, and if so, which app would you recommend using?
thanks

I use eugenea CPU sleeper for quad core

I would say how long have you had the tablet? 5 hours is a bit ridiculous. If its new just give it some time and you should start seeing better battery life. If not you probably got a bad battery. Talk to asus about that. I don't even know of any tablet on the market that cant get more than 5 hours. With something that bad a battery saver app wont help.

Good app to monitor battery usage?

I'm about to test out a 1700mah battery is bought. I wanted to see if there is a good accurate battery/phone usage app so I don't have to guess about how many text, calls, and how long I web browser or played games for? I really need one asap cuz I'm about to unplug for my first full battery cycle.

Battery left. Install it, use your phone like you normally would until it dies. Repeat, and it will have a fairly accurate estimate of the amount of time left until your phone dies.
This is especially useful of you use set CPU profiles.

Battery Monitor Wdiget. Developed by someone here at XDA (Sorry I cannot remember who. I'm terrible with names) It's pretty powerful yet doesn't draw a significant amount of power.

Just downloaded this and am loving it! Gives tons of current and past details of your battery. Definately worth a download.

We're going to need more information than that to help you out.
ROM?
Kernel?
Name of "Battery Monitoring" App?
Current Data use?
Signal strength in your area?
All of these will be very helpful in figuring out what your issue is.
Try to be patient, I'm a little new. But here's what I know.
Froyo 2.2
Kernel 2.6.32.9
Battery Monitor Widget App
Data usage isn't high.
I don't know how to find ROM
My display takes 93% but my brightness is all the way down and my signal is always pretty strong.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
Im guessing your one the stock at&t froyo. Think about going into the captivate android development section and flash a custom rom. They seem to provide better battery life and are much better than what came with this phone.

You can also disable wifi, bluetooth, and GPS when not in use - that should help.
In my experience the fastest way to better battery life is flash a new kernel. speedmod-kernel-i897-k13e is very stable. Also turn off auto-rotate and auto brightness.
A big battery killer for me is background data and auto sync, I leave it all off, along with the stuff every one else said.
Also, try calibrating your battery.
The only thing I've done to my phone is root. And I've turned off all the auto stuff, I have no idea how to "flash the rom" or anything else.

If your display takes up 93% of battery that's usually a good sign, it means that there's probably nothing in the background sucking up all the juice. Have you tried "bump charging" or replacing the battery? They do tend to go bad or lose calibration if you've overheated them one too many times.
Whenever I charge my phone it seems to get extremely hot. The battery app said like 115° to 120°

Try Juice Defender in the Android Market, made a big different for me.
In my experience Froyo roms have all been garbage battery life *first leak, stock, Perception, Cognition, SuperNova, Phoenix Unleashed* I could never get more then 10 hours on the battery and less with wifi on. Now with GB *perception 2 beta 3*, I get 18 hours with Bluetooth on, Background Sync On, under H *3G*, and the original battery that came with the phone. I am putting up with some of the issues that 2.3.3 has but to me I cannot go back to froyo as my battery life has never been this good Including with jf6 2.1 that originally shipped with my phone.
HTH,
Charlie
I put it on the charger. Only went up to 35c (95f)

While that may be the case, it doesn't always provide for the best signal. You have to test each one and see what works best for your area/situation.
Your battery temp seems very high. You may want to swap the battery before trying other things. Is the phone new? If so, At&t store should agree to swap it out for you.

Awake vs Screen on

I can't seem to figure out the difference between the screen being on and the device being awake... I thought they were the same thing?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Screen on is the screen is physically on. Awake is the processor is running an apps are using power. You wouldn't want awake to be a lot unless your screen is on a lot. If it is, that means something is running while your screen is off(wake lock). Typically resulting in a bad battery drain.

I've heard of GSam as well as better battery stats, and then being differently priced, is there a key difference or advantage to one or the other? Dropping a buck more for better battery doesn't bother me, I just don't wanna have to buy both in the end.

Better battery stats is very powerful, it reads pretty much everything. It will take a bit of research to understand all of its functions though. It also uses root permissions to dig deep into the kernels power consumption. If you really don't want to donate (pay), the paid version is available in the apps section for free for xda members.

[Q] Quick dying battery/ Slow charge?

I'm rooted unlocked and romd and my battery dies so fast and I can't tell why. The whole day I've set CPU to power save and even in the settings power save is turned on. No apps are left running. It's been 7 hours and I'm on 53%? Is this normal or is my battery bad? I'm running the latest GalaxyMod rom.
Get GSAM battery monitor off the market and let it run. It will show you what's using your battery.

How many hours of screen on time is there for those seven hours.
I'd say any thing over one and a half hours of screen on time is pretty decent for 53% over seven hours

Okay so my screen takes up 28% as for apps System and Kernel take up 14% each then Kik at 11% and Xda at 9% the rest don't use that much. Any advice?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Are you charging with wall charger or car charger? Car chargers give a quick charge that eventually ruins batteries if used often. Also others have said to let it drain completely and use CWM to reset battery info. Then full charge and wipe battery info again. Once fully charged unplug replug charger in until it takes less than 10 seconds to show fully charged and reset battery info again. Doing that 2-3 times is said to help refresh battery. I did it once and saw a slight difference.
I'm just using a normal wall charger

Battery question

I've been having pretty bad battery life for some reason.. I was wondering if maybe its bad to use my phone while its plugged in? Like just browsing at night while charging? I can see the battery percentage drop really frequently while using it. Any thoughts?

I use my phone all night while it's plugged in, haha.
And is the battery dropping WHILE charging? If so, your charging plug or your wire itself is damaged. It's odd to see battery declining, even during use, while charging.
Oops.. Sorry I phrased that wrong. I meant that the battery percentage drops fast just in general. One minute its at 100 and then in a minute or two its down to 99. Not sure what's up.
By the way I'm on hyperdrive 7 with stock kernel.

Oh, haha okay.
Well it's normal for your battery to drop down to 99% in a minute or two, because the battery can't sustain 100% max for too long. If your battery life can last you throughout the day, I would say you should be fine. But, if you're like me, I would use a conservative-based governor, no matter the kernel. I use KTweaker.
Mind showing a screenshot of your battery stats?
