[Q] Digitizer Initial Delay - T-Mobile LG G2x

I replaced my digitizer with a white one. Now when I wake my phone, the digitizer takes around 12 seconds before responding. Everything works fine after the initial 12 seconds except for the right side of the screen (front camera onwards) still being unresponsive. On a CM9 rom, I was able to enable 'Show Touches' and noticed that the right side of the screen is filled with 'touches' for the first 12 seconds then disappears.
I have tried flashing different ROMs and kernels with no success. I think this is a faulty digitizer problem.
I moved on to modifying the kernel as a workaround to the problem. Using the stock hidden menu, I determined that the cutoff was at around 415px. I tried changing the 'LGE_TOUCH_RESOLUTION_X' to '415' in '/kernel/arch/arm/mach-tegra/include/nvodm_touch.h' hoping to completely disable that part of the screen. From the dmesg log, it looks like the touchscreen initialization is spending excessive time in the 'tegra_touch_thread' function defined in '/kernel/drivers/input/touchscreen/tegra_odm_touch.c'.
Are there any developers out there that can offer any further insight or suggestions towards this problem? I can deal with the right screen being unresponsive but I would like to fix the initial delay.

Wow crazy. I had that same issue when I first got this phone. The screen would spaz out for a few seconds with many touches so I couldn't unlock it, and the right most edge wouldn't work. Once I replace it I never had the problem since.
Maybe the digitizer was faulty in the first place. That's my guess. Sounds identical to my issue. Can't say if the guy I bought it from dropped it or replaced it with a faulty digitizer.

Att Fuze black screen need help please! Not a bad flash issue.

Hi all,
I am at my wits end on this problem if anyone can offer any adivice it would be greatly appreciated. So let me give a recap of what has occured thus far. The water damage tag for some reason turn pink thus i am unable to get warranty exchange. I am pretty certain that the phone has never been expose to any water of anything of that sort, but i do live in houston, tx so might be humidity or what not that cause the tag to turn. Anyways.
1. This all started after i flashed RRE 5.2 RC3. Initially after a successful flash everything seem normal and fine. Then next morning i woke up to a frozen screen with many verticial lines running up and down the screen was almost unreadable. Initially i thought it was a bad flash or just random lock up. I did a hard reset and tried to enter the bootloader. Black screen, it does seem like the backlight is coming up but nothing on the screen. I can hear the phone power on and boot successfully into windows. Activesync connects i can browse the contents of the phone.
2. After flashing to stock att rom and stock htc roms same symptoms. So at this point i am thinking crap bad LCD screen. so I ordered both the digitizer and lcd screen for good measure. I replaced them hoping that a bad LCD was all. replaced both screens and i powered on the phone. same problem. black screen. The phone still powers on and boots into windows. Activesync still connects and i cna still reflash the phone.
3. I work extensively and do both desktop pc and notebook repair. I am not new to dealing with small electronic repairs. but at this juncture i am unable to identify the cause of hte malfunction. i am hoping maybe some of the gurus here might be able to shine some light on the subject.
Thanks in advance for any help.
I would have followed the same approach; your description makes it sound like it might be some kind of backlighting issue at first read. I'm inclined to think it might be a cold connection (bad connector) on the main board.
Silly question, what happens if you power up the phone with the keyboard exposed?
*EDIT* Not sure if you have been here yet: http://www.mikechannon.net/
Cheers,
i just tried to power up the phone with keyboard exposed. Powers up the same as with the keyboard hidden. Still boots up fine but black screen. I already have the service manuel dowloaded. i have checked around with several repair places both local and on the web. Seems like no one has any parts for the att fuze/touch pro gsm except for the lcd and digitizer and a speaker.
its quite possible that it is a main board but as the same time it might be something as simple as a ribbon cable. i have contacted htc about doing a possible repair and they want wayyyy too much for just a main board repair almost $400 USD.
Anyone have a bricked/ non working touch pro they would like to sell ? =P

Could be a bad ribbon cable ... and firmly pressing around the front/back of the unit shows no change?
pressing the phone front and back show no changes to display. in a very dark room I can see that there is light emitting from the display but its just the screen is not displaying anything visable. this occured both before and after i changed out the screens. I'll do another visual inspection of all the boards to see if there is any bad resistors burnt out circuits etc.. but i didn't notice anything mentionable during my first 2 inspections. Maybe 3rd time is the charm.
Thanks for all the feedback thus far Hilaireg it is quite appreciated. All this venting has at least made me feel 1000% better than after i replaced my lcd and still same problem at least i don't feel like a complete idiot!
Sorry I couldn't be of much help ... you've done all the steps a seasoned hardware person would do.
Do post back to let other folks know if you get it back up and running.
Cheers,
you have a pm fkoong.
I have possibly the same problem. Phone got wet, dried it out for 2 days (in a container of rice). Phone worked but had "water marks" on screen that disappeared after two days and everything was fine for about 2 weeks. Then one day (happened to be humid misting rain eve in Charleston) the screen is blank (hint of backlight only). A soft reset and it seems OK for about 1hr, then blank again. The hard resest screen displayed OK (readbale text etc), but didnt work. But as I write this, I retry to document it results correctly and the NATF ROM is reloading and the screen works! We will see how long!!
Well.. not that long, the end of the ROM load and it went blank again, seems like a video driver problem. The Press VoluP to boot does show some red artifact.
Trying hard reset again (No SIM no uSD)
The NATF v4.4 loads and gives me the Tap screen, Align Screen, stylus, loads customization, opera, tf3d, then loads a bunch of files under ...... and then the screen goes blank again, seem like what happened last time, so Ill try loading a fresh ROM copy... later

[Q] Screen Issue? (XT926)

I received my XT926 as a refurb and I have been experiencing a strange screen issue.
I will often have my phone on a dock, charging and sometimes I will notice the screen is black like it's off, but the touchscreen is responsive. Hitting the power button does nothing but it makes the sound as if I had locked the phone. Hitting the power button a second time will turn the screen on like normal operation.
Very rarely I have noticed the screen will turn off while I'm actually using the phone and it's a weird effect. The easiest way to describe it is that it looks like entire lines disappearing randomly over a period of 1-2 seconds, going from all visible, then to all black, kind of like slatted blinds being closed, but at random. After this, it displays the same symptoms as if I had found the screen off while in a dock/charging.
Now, I don't want to say it's related, but I first started experiencing this on the Stock KitKat update from Verizon. I am currently using Cyanogenmod 12 nightlies and I am experiencing the same issue. It seems to be happening with greater frequency.
I have also experienced the blue screen effect when certain animations/elements/apps are up on my screen, but I think they are unrelated.
Also, there is a faint discoloration bar about 2/5ths of an inch thick uniformly vertically from top to bottom of my phone on the righthand side (just under where the notification bar would be if turned horizontal).
I've tried to find more information about this but my search results have been relatively lackluster (90% of the results are trying to sell me the phone or specification pages)
So I'm breaking down and turning to here. Does anyone know what's going on here? My current theory is that my screen is going bad. I have no intention of replacing the screen on this phone (would rather just buy a new one), so any suggestions that don't involve physical hardware repairs would be appreciated.
I thought i was the only one experiencing it.
The screen turning off with a weird effect happens rarely but yeah it happens. And the blue screen effect, i noticed it only happens when im on the youtube app when the video stops working because of my connectivity issues.
Im not rooted nor is my bootloader unlocked. On the latest system version. Sounds like a software problem but hey im no expert.

i also have this with my referb i made moto give me my money back and they let me keep the phone for me it was very rare but my new phone also had a really bad screen all yellowish and bad white balance in low light if you are unhappy with it call them and say you are unhappy with the replacement here is the white glove number 800-653-7185 they are more understanding and nice but you may lose you ability to unlock your bootloader on the new phone if it comes with the latest software just a warning
I have that screen off with lines slowly disappearing thing, too And, yeah, it's also a refurbished one, bought from one of the sellers on aliexpress... I thought Lollipop was the culprit or something like that. Oh, well... It rarely happens. And luckily I only have that, not the second issue you mentioned
I am having this exact same issue. The weird lines-to-black screen thing, and the flickering blue screen when watching video. Are you saying the solution is to call Motorola and ask for a new phone?
The blue flickering can be prevented by going into Developer Options and checking "Disable HW Overlays".
The discolored stripe on the screen sounds like burn-in; these AMOLED screens are much more susceptible to burn-in than the LCD screens used in older phones. Whomever owned the phone before it was returned to Motorola probably had something running on their screen continuously with a bright-colored bar at the top, likely in a car or desk dock. The screen is very easy to replace yourself with an eBay part, if you're inclined; it involves 2 screws and 2 connectors.
I've seen the lines-to-black thing exactly twice since I got this phone refurb two months ago. Sorry, I don't know what causes it or how to avoid it, but the workaround is quick and simple enough that I'm not worried about it, yet.

[Q] Help! LG-D800 Top of Screen Unresponsive!

Hi, new to XDA but I have been having a problem with my unlocked & rooted LG G2 D800 running official 4.4.2 recently. About 2 weeks now.
The top of the touchscreen is unresponsive. Did nothing that I know of to cause any damage to the screen. It started with just a small portion where the notification bar is located. Couldn't drag the notification bar down was pretty much the only problem. Then the area began to get larger. But then it would get smaller. It stretches from one end of the screen to the other short ways. At one point there was a small line that would register touch in between two unresponsive areas. At another point the screen started working fine for 3 days then began to act up again. Now the screen registers touches that aren't happening. Turned on a setting in Developer settings that allows me to see small dots where the screen is touched and sometimes it will register 5, 6, even 7 touches at once all in the unresponsive section of the screen. Sometimes one or two or three. They happen in both short clicks and long presses. Sometimes one point will register and stay in the same spot for a while, happens in random different spots in the unresponsive zone. It is a real hassle at this point because when it starts happening it clicks anything in it's path, pulls down the notification bar, zooms, posts, opens apps, etc.
Tried doing a factory data reset, didn't help in the slightest.
Tried updating touch firmware in the hidden menu, again nothing.
Looked it up and it seems to be a semi common problem with the G2. A lot of people are crying software issue. So what my question(s) would be are, does anyone on xda have the same problem? Has anyone found a solution? Even more specific has anyone found that flashing a different ROM works/fixes the issue? Like CM11 say because it's in a stable build? Maybe it could be a hardware issue, loose connection, something else but it's frustrating as hell and it would be nice to find out it's something easily fixable before I start ordering parts. Thank you! -Damon

I doubt that it is a software issue. The G2 is a pretty tough phone but sometimes the digitizer gets a bit off if too much pressure is applied like when you sit and the phone is in your back pocket. Can you have it checked? You can download screen test apps from play store to run simple pixel based tests to see if its ok or there is a hardware issue.
Press the phone firmly with your fingers or palms. It helped my with my lg g2
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Free mobile app
my issues was solved by opening phone and fixing digitizer connector

Nexus 5 really weird screen problem

Hi,
I have this really weird stuff going on with my Nexus 5 screen. I cracked it a couple months ago and bought a legit replacement screen for it and installed it myself (glass, lcd and frame). I fixed it with good instructions and it worked properly for two months. However though, now when I take it out of a pocket and try to turn screen on, sometimes it just doesn't light up. It's still on and every button works but the screen doesn't turn on. I have to give it a light tap or two on the back in order to make it light up again. Same thing happens sometimes when I'm using the phone normally, the screen just goes black and goes on after tapping it couple of times. Otherwise the phone works normally like it did when I bought it two years ago and after running couple of tests with screen, everything seems to work from touch interface to the graphics card.
Tried looking it up, no results.
I've noticed that the front camera doesn't work for some reason (probably just broken) and the battery lasts in use only 2-4 hours which isn't that much of an issue since I'm looking for a new phone. I just want this one to last long enough till I buy a new one.
It comes up when tapping the screen or power button? It could be a power button issue.
The screen comes back on when tapping the screen or the back of the phone. The power button isn't the issue. The screen just goes black but nothing else happens. It doesn't turn off or go to sleep mode.
Strange issue. I've never experienced it and any problems I had were related to the power button.
Could it be a loose connection inside the phone? Maybe an issue related to the proximity sensor?
Thats actually what I've thought. I have checked the phone's insides twice and didn't see loose connections, and the problem feels like it's related to proximity sensor since the screen going black happens exactly same way that when calling someone or doing something else where proximity sensor shuts the screen. It's really weird though...
Huh, I took backplate off and unscrewed the motherboard cover and took everything apart and rebuilt it and now the problem is gone. Seems like there was just some bad connection somewhere.
Glad you got it to work without having to pay someone to fix it

Looking for informations about daughterboard/ribbon cable issues

Umm... hi
I have two Nexus 5, one which is out of warranty and one brand new one.
So the first one I stopped using because the screen is acting funny.
Meaning suddenly turning black, image flickering, touch not working.
Sometimes tapping on the back of the phone helps, but I do forced reboots alot to fix it.
Also, mic is dead and speaker tends to ask for a tap to make it work here and there.
My second phone was meant as replacement, but after two weeks the backlight
of the entire right screen half started to go on and off several times a day. Tapping helped,
but I just returned to it get it replaced.
On youtube, you will find a huge amount of videos showing how various of those screen
and touch and reception and mic issues can be solved by simply replacing the 20$ daughterboard.
The one connecting the bottom half of the phone with the mainboard. This includes display, mic, speaker
and more. I intend to do that aswell on my broken-af first Nexus, but before that, I thought going to XDA
asking if anyone here knows why this component is so receptible to damage. It's not a moving part
and does not run near the CPU, so I really wonder why this part is failing to incredible often. Anyone can
tell me more about that?
Thanks
