Hello all. I have an early Christmas present for all the Stock firmware users.
I have created a usb tethering application that should work for all Android devices regardless of root access. The code is and will always be GPL. I used the azilink android app written by aziwoqpd--> http://forum.xda-develoers.com/showthread.php?t=481162
I have to give him lots of credit, because without his app this would not work.
This has been tested on the G1 and the Motorolla Droid. It should work on the Hero, MyTouch(Confirmed working), etc... The GUI should install and work on all versions (x86, x86_64) of Windows starting with XP.
The GUI that I have written controls the adb port forwarding and openvpn connection while showing status. Please test this application and let me know how it goes.

So your telling me this is "wifi tether" for non rooted users?

Nope. This is USB Tether for non rooted users
Link is down for azilink, use this link instead for more information:
http://code.google.com/p/azilink/
Confirmed working on Windows 7, and doesn't require root.
Edit: The zip in original post contains the GUI, the apk, and open vpn. Start the apk, then click "connect" on the azilink-gui. Make sure "USB debugging" is enabled in Settings on your phone.
Thanks a lot.

Wifi tether and USB tether are two totally different methods of tethering.
Wifi tether doesn't utilize the usb cable to tether.

USB Tether requires the device to be connected to the Computer via USB.
Wifi tether allows users to wirelessly connect to your device via their Computer.

ADB is included in the azilink-gui installer. The only thing you will need to do manually is install the driver which is included in the install directory.

Download ADB from here:
http://azilink.googlecode.com/files/adb.zip
I'm not sure if ADB is built into the azilink-gui, so it's safe to just install it on your girlfriend's PC.

Universal Naked Driver 0.72

32 & 64 Bit Windows 8 / 7 / Vista / XP - Attached to this post!
MD5: 30D25BC073F010CA01178CD6E2C5E4FA
I am happy to release my Universal Naked Driver. This is to allow ADB, Fastboot & APX interfaces to work without installing any package much less multiples packages for users with multiple devices. Yes you can just install them and uninstall right away but why bother?
I was annoyed that I couldnt use my Transformer Prime and Galaxy Nexus without having versions and packages trip over each other. My previous post for the Sensation & Galaxy Nexus was helpful so I thought I would bring to XDA the newest Android driver available from source (which they call 4.0) and make it start talking.
Warning: Uninstall any previous driver package's you may have installed and also manually remove drivers by attaching your phone and going to Windows device manager and right click the entry for your phone and select "Uninstall" on the next prompt make sure to select "Delete the driver software for this device" then hit OK and reboot before installing these drivers
Code:
Google Nexus Devices ADB & Fastboot
Samsung Devices ADB & Fastboot
Asus Devices ADB, Fastboot & APX
HTC Devices ADB & Fastboot
Code:
[B]Windows 8 Instructions[/B]
How to Disable Driver Signature Enforcement in Windows 8:
From the Metro Start Screen, open Settings (move your mouse to the bottom-right-corner of the screen and wait for the pop-out bar to appear, then click the Gear icon).
Click ‘More PC Settings’.
Click ‘General’.
Scroll down, and click ‘Restart now’ under ‘Advanced startup’.
Wait a bit.
Click ‘Troubleshoot’.
Click ‘Advanced Options’
Click ‘Windows Startup Settings’
Click Restart.
Enjoy!
Thanks......

Great idea.
I went ahead and did the same for Win7 x86:

Hello,
I just thought it would be easier to post this HTC naked driver so you do not have to install any HTC software. Just grabbed it from the installer and repacked it for your convenience.
I only did 64 bit for now
HTC Driver 3.0.0.007.rar
Enjoy!

This is ¡much bueno! You have been "THANKS"-ed accordingly.
You are welcome, I hate installing stuff I don't need.
You can achieve the same by just canceling out of htc sync installation after the driver installs as well.
Hi, the link for 64 bit driver is broken. Could someone upload it again.
Thanks

it aint broke but here u go another link
http://uploaded.to/file/bmu6shcd
Added it to first post, thanks
just out of interest where do these drivers go ?
You would extract the drivers first to any temp folder, once phone is plugged in you system will look for drivers and when it cant find them you would point it to your temp folder.
When that happens it will copy the files it needs from the temp folder to windows drivers, after this process the temp folder is no longer needed.
Hope this helps.
why are they in .rar format? arent they supposed to be a .zip file?
You could just download this driver from the HTC Developers website (http://developer.htc.com)
It includes the driver for nearly all Windows OS
Go to the webpage, then scroll right to the bottom. Its labelled 'HTC Android USB Driver for Microsoft PC' and is 5.5MB.
Fast download, and no need for any waiting or popups you get from filesharing websites.
any guide how to use the file ?

Or what I did was to extract the files in the rar and copy/replaced the original drivers form the HTC Sync driver set.
thnx this worked very well

Great Tip but its an older version and might not have the edits to allow newer phones.
The one on the site is from 11/2010 and is version 2.0.0007.00002, this one is 3.0.0.007.
I do not think it has a ton of features but its newer and has compatibly for more phones.
Great!
But is this driver works for all USB modes?
Usually I'm using "Internet pass-trough" mode.
how do i get the driver for windows xp 32 bit? duh nevermind. sorry

+1 this is a clean & easy way to install the HTC drivers, then just cancel the HTC Sync install after!
i can use usb tethering when i use android 4.0.4,drivers are ok.but in 4.2.2 computer cant find modem driver.
same here
anyone?
Hi! Me too
I've downloaded this driver http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445436 and fellow the instructions.
Next I've downloaded the reverse tether app (search in Google Play... but I've downloaded the full apk )
In this configuration: usb connected with usb tether and debugging activated.
and the app shows me "Usb is not connected".
Also I've tried deactivating the debugging, but the problem continues.
I have Windows XP SP3.
PC-side:
Appears a RNDIS driver, I've installed it following the instructions of the first link.
But the system asks me about a device called HTC.
Where is it? How can I get usb tether?
Thanks in advance
PD: In some web pages some people say that in CM10 the usb tether isn't functional.
anyone got other workaround?
cm10.2 too, oh my...

Some of you are like myself are having trouble getting the fastboot drivers to install correctly on Windows 8. The device is always showing with an exclamation mark on it in device manager, and 'fastboot devices' shows nothing. There are other threads out there on XDA which detail methods, such as KidCarter93's method here which show you how to force install the Win7 fastboot drivers on Windows 8.
The problem is this doesn't work for some of us, and I suspected it was something to do with my Ultrabook only having USB 3.0 ports, since my other Win8 x64 box with USB 2.0 ports has no such issue.
I had a poke around and found this site here which shows you how to remove the Microsoft USB 3.0 drivers and instead install the Intel USB 3.0 drivers on Windows 8.
After following the procedure carefully, I can confirm this fixes the problem for me on Windows 8! After successfully installing the drivers, fastboot started working immediately for me.
Step 1: Install the HTC drivers from the standard HTC Sync Manager (Win7/8). If you are on Windows 8.1, please use the HTC Drivers linked later in this thread here (thanks Kardus!)
Follow KidCarter93's method to manually install the Win7 drivers. Read Here. Or you could manually install the latest drivers being maintained in this thread here. I tried them all before arriving at a fix, so my system isnt exactly clean, but I'm sure you could try one or the other as the important part is step 2.
Step 2: Hit up Plugable's site which has a great step by step explanation of how to install the Intel USB 3.0 drivers. Full credit to Jerome for writing the guide, and Ekko who did the original work.
UPDATE: As per Coolookoo's discovery (Thanks Coolookoo!), if you are using a 4th Gen Haswell based Intel CPU, then you need to get the Intel USB 3.0 drivers from this link here instead of the link at Plugable's site. You will however still need his modded .inf files.
Step 3..... Profit
You should now have fastboot working flawlessly on Win8 x64 with USB 3.0, and as a added gift some older 'incompatible' USB devices that you may own should also now work under Windows 8.
Would love to hear some feedback on how this went for you.
If it helped, please hit the Thanks button!
Thanks!!
Hey you are a star. This has been annoying me for weeks now on my usb 3 laptop. can confirm that following your guide worked perfectly and now fastboot recognised perfect.
Thank you
You sir are the man !, I was beginning to think nobody else was having the same issue as me .I've been resorting to using my laptop's usb 2 port to do all my fastboot stuff, sine my desktop has only usb 3's , and this quick fix has made the four usb 3's on the back of my desktop work flawlessly. So yeah thanks for that mate.
Now just to get the two side usb 3 ports working for easier access since they run of a Texas instruments controller.

I was able to find this fix as well and I can confirm that it works great. I am using the Surface Pro for most of my flashing and don't have a USB 2.0 port. I was so glad to find this.
That's great guys really glad this is working for you. Thanks for the feedback!
@salada2k - thanks for posting this... i have a Dell XPS 12 i7 ultrabook and this fix worked for me as well....
Great post, thank you!
While I'm not going to mess with the 3.0 drivers (seems there are advantages to using built-in stack for supported devices), this did at least point me in the direction of using my 2.0 ports instead for fastboot, which works great.
Thanks again!

Not sure. The plugable.com page you linked said something about some benefits (like uasp?) but didn't look into it any, just switched over to my 2.0 ports.
Well i gave it a go, still didnt work. adb recognizes my HTC One when it is booted into the regular system, but as soon as it goes into fastboot it is not recognized.... Any other suggestions?

You sir, are my hero
Wow, awesome, this worked like a charm on my HTC One! Was going nuts with this, can't believe the problem was with the USB 3.0 ports! Thanks man, really :good:
Thanks for this thread it pointed me in the right direction. I have the Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 eXtensibile Host Controller in my Dell Laptop. I fixed the fastboot issues by installing the Intel drivers from:
http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/usb3/sb/CS-033082.htm
I just ran the installation wizard which updated the driver and corrected the fastboot issue.
Worked like a charm for my HTC one .. although gotta say this made me appreciate my macbook even more, no need for all this driver nonsense ..
I tried following the linked guide, but when I rebooted after installing the first driver, there was no "unknown device" shown under device manager. Dos anyone know what would cause that, or how I could get that to show up?
Or just use linux and everything to do with android just works, no issues, regardless of hardware or usb port type... I just don't even bother trying to do any of this from my win system anymore

The thing is that your computer must detect your phone, there are several mods to root your O1, go to FAQ or to android development repository, these are sticky threads and choose one method, but first read carefully and after try it. There it is explained in detail how to do it, all methods are safe and used by all people, so you do not need to care about it that it will brick your phone, just follow instructions exactly

If you have a driver still having problems use another port to plug in the cable.Remove from that and check on the other side of computer. If still does not run then have LG United Mobile Driver.
Mine is detected trough recovery mounting USB, but I pointed you to read FAQ, there it explains how to root without connecting to PC, use phone browser to download app for rooting, also install android SDK and LG USB driver, when you connect phone to PC it won't pop up any window until you tap on phone USB mass storage, also enable in settings, apps, development, android debugging, allow mock locations, go to device manager on PC and disable LG modem

Hi, by the way you are using LG P500 no?
Then did you try plugging into the other ports as well, like i have 3-4 ports.Even you have so first try that.
Do you have LG support tool? If you don't then go to this (http://www.lg.com/uk/support-mobile/lg-LGP500) website and follow simple steps. In the 'download' section you will find 'update software & drivers in red'. Click that and follow the steps, very easy.( install for windows )
Still have problem then restart the computer and see
there are many ways to put an app like gingerbreake to sd card, even trough dropbox, bluetooth, wifi etc
but with you is to hard to make you understand to read sticky threads, maybe rooting an doing other things to your phone is better to... not to do it, first read, understand and after try it
read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149636 FAQ is ment to be read not to skip, here it explains how to, and what app with link to download, if you search playstore you will find XDA app, install it, log in, browse forum, download gingerbreack and run it from sd card
---------- Post added at 05:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:36 PM ----------
first try gingerbreacke, if doesn't work, if you had readed all STICKY THREADS, there is explained that you need to enable ADB on your phone(search what is it), disable LG modem in pc device manager and use one app like superoneclick that you find in rooting threads
hello..i tried different cord and port. still charging only..
about reading faq. ofcourse i read that already and i dont create a thread if found a solution..thats why i created a thread.
yes i enable usb debugging even mass storage..but nothing happen.
about gingerbreak it seems not work in 2.3.3 if any please give me.
thanks again
"Run "regedit"and select the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/MountedDevices" folder. See all the "Dos Devices" listed? You'll have one entry for each physically mounted drive (HDD or Disc) plus you'll have one show up for each USB drive you attempt to insert. Double click each device listed and seeifyou seetextsaying something like"U.S.B.S.T.O.R...". Once you find that device, right click it and select "Rename". Now change the drive letter to something unused... like Q: or something. Close regedit, disconnect the USB device and reconnect
This should fix ur problem:thumbup:
