reboot into stock recovery and wipe data/ factory reset. try it a few times. if the wipe never says complete and reboots itself you have a case of brickbug, or corrupt data partition.
flash Honeycomb firmware, then boot to recovery, then wipe data...do not wipe data in ICS firmware, it will make hardbrick and coz to change mainboard..

I'm all ready to flash a custom rom on my device and came across this: How To Load Custom ROM on Your Android Device (After Using the Revolutionary Method), ( <---- type this link into google apparently im not allowed to post outside links so just type it in to google) however no where in the instructions is he wiping the cache partition or dalvik cache, I've heard from most people if you don't wipe the cache you could end up with a phone eating a bowl of boot loops, or having a paperweight, so is he wrong or is it not important, please explain?
Yes it is very important when flashing a rom or flashing just about anything else to wipe cache and delvik cache. Also if flashing a rom for the first time you must delete all data/factory reset. Wiping the caches will never hurt anything it will just make your phone take a while to boot the first time so don't be afraid to do it when flashing anything

It is important as the last person explained. Though check your phone model and see if it has a hidden recovery or boot loader. Phones like my triumph let me get my phone back even it gets stuck in a boot loop or corrupts the recovery menu.
Oh okay thank you both, its just I have an htc aria, and I want to flash a rom, but I don't know how, I have it rooted, but i don't know how to flash a rom successfully, because I don't want to brick it.
I have clockworkmod recovery installed and rooted. It's been a few months since I rooted, and can't remember exactly what I did, but OTA updates stopped working. Hence, I am still on gingerbread.
Trying to flash a custom rom now, CM9. I tried the rom manager method several times, found out that wasn't recommended, and then tried the recovery method.
The same thing happens either way: it boots into CM9, but the boot animation keeps playing.
With the rom manager method, I tried wiping nothing, then tried wiping dalvik only, then tried... whatever the other option was, wipe cache and data?
With CMW recovery I downloaded CM9 zip and the appropriate GAPPS, moved onto the internal SD card, booted into recovery mode Wipe data/factory reset, then Wipe cache partition, then install both.
I'm able to restore from backup each time, but this is annoying.
Thank you
1. Install ICS Radio (UCLF6)
2. Wipe Data/Factory Reset
3. Format /System
4. Install CM9.zip
5. Install Gapps.zip
6. Wipe Cache/Dalvik
7. Reboot
:good:

So "UCLF6" appears to be rom that is similar to stock, I'm guessing the idea here is that I'm resetting the phone but retaining root, the idea being that something on my phone is messed up and preventing CM9 from booting but doesn't prevent the current rom from booting?
Two other questions
1. Won't format/system wipe out all my backups in addition to my data?
2. Have you had or seen this problem before? I'm hesitant to commit myself to something, especially with no backups, if it's just a theoretical fix. I do appreciate it either way.
UCLF6 is an ICS modem/radio you need if you're coming from gb.
If you back up though CWM you can restore again later if you want.
Formatting /system will delete the operating system.
Formatting /data will delete your apps/settings/wallpaper etc...

I had a similar boot animation loop when I went from stock GB to stock ICS. What seemed to fix it was updating my CWM from 5.0.2.6 (non-touch) to 5.5.0.4 (touch). (BTW, I couldn't find an advantage of stock ICS over stock GB. I have since put on CM9 which I'm liking).

Still got the boot loop.
When I did the "Wipe data/factory reset" I did get an error message during one of the processes"
"Error mounting sdcard/.android_secure!
Skipping format"
I had a boot loop problem when I first tried to flash JB. I went from GB to ICS with a custom rom a few months back, but I couldn't get any of the new JB roms to work. I ended up having to upgrade my CWM to the touch version in order to get JB flash to work. Also, a tip-- the boot animation will take a minute or two even when it is working. Don't assume it is still a problem if you see it more than once.
I need help my phone gets stucked at the bootscreen after installing lquidsmooth and i cant seem to restore from clockwork mod at the momment and its not showing up on my computer please help thanks!
You can try and reflash the ROM to see if that works.
Back into Clock work. Wipe cache and dalvik cache.
Reboot.
If that still fails then do a full wipe and re flash the rom.
If that fails then do a full wipe and flash a different rom or re download the liquid smooth file again. because your liquid smooth file may be corrupted
Goodluck

Samsung Galaxy S2 i727 Skyrocket.
I recently updated to a 4.3 rom.
It booted up and I just got a message "Unfortuanately, Nfc Service has stopped. Blame Tyler."
I couldn't get the message to go away and the only thing I could do was a hard reboot.
Still same issue.
Rebooted into Recovery mode.
Factory Reset, wipe cache partition, format /system, wipe dalvich cache
Restored an older rom.
It booted up with no issues. But when I rebooted, I just get the Samsung logo and then the screen goes black.
I even tried Factory Reset, wipe cache partition, format /system, wipe dalvich cache and installed a new rom from scratch.
Same problem.
I have no idea what to try next or why this is happening.
Any help or comments are welcome.
Thanks

2 days ago i was just going around my advanced junk with clean master app. there was a filed named empty folders which was 11 mb in advanced junk section, so i cleared the file and went to play angry birds, then suddenly it stuck and rebooted. :'( now every time it boots up, shows the boot image, starts the cyanogenmod boot animation and then the boot animation stucks and then the whole process again...REBOOT LOOP
i tried every thing till now:
1. tried to install stock rom through odin but still shows cyanogenmod animation and reboot loops
2.tried to install different recovery but the recovery doesn't change also.
3. tried to install a different rom for eg: PAC rom. it installs but it still shows cyanogenmod
4. also now i tried to install stock firmware with pit file but it still shows cyanogenmod animation.
AND MY WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED MONTHS AGO
i think there is a problem with the partition or something... i dont know how to fix it
SOMEONE PLZ HELP ME!

If you are able to boot to recovery, can't you wipe completely? (System, cache, data) Once CM is gone you should be able to install other Rom. I'm a little confused how CM could continue to boot if it has been wiped from phone...

I HATE CLEAN MASTER
You can flash a Custom-Recovery using Odin.
You´ll find a link latest recoverys in my signature.
If Stock Recovery still boots you need to uncheck "Auto-Reboot" in Odin. When Odin finished flashing, wait 1 minute to be sure. Then directly boot into recovery from download-mode and enjoy the custom recovery.
This will increase your flashcounter!
Put your Rom & Gapps on your MicroSD Card
In CWM / CWM based recoverys:
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvic Cache
Wipe Data Factory Reset
format /system
fromat /data and /data/media (this will format your internal sd! be sure your rom placed on microSD card)
flash the rom
reboot (first boot can take ~30 minutes - if it still bootloops: something´s worng )
if everything working:
reboot recovery
flash gapps
reboot
Strange that reflashing the system didn't help. You could try it with an other recovery?
