[Q] how to increase mms sent size? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

My friend was playing a minute long video he received via text on his iPhone. It made me sick when all day prior I was talking up the sg3 and he seemed to agree with me until the mms comparisons. All of my last phones...thunderbolt...incredible were able when rooted to change the Max Mms size. My question is....how can this be done. Its killing me I can't text 10 second never mind a 1 minute long video of my baby to family and friends. Please help.

anyone?

Anyone?

I wanna say you cant with cdma. In the camera settings there is something to set the camera length for mms sending iirc
It also depends on quality and resolution of the video. Dont expect to send 5 mins of 1080p vid via mms.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

Its based on Verizons Network also right? In GOsms the max is like 2 or 3 MBs. Was his video HD and not compressed to be sent? If so, expect the video to look like crap just like any android phone sending through MMS.

Yes its actually a way but very complicated. If your search decompile mms apk it may lead you to what you want....in the end i think it involves altering your xml config file( i think)

Mms app frustration

Have you ever noticed that when someone sends you an mms you have to save it to be able to see it clearly. The stock messaging app displays pics at very low resolution. But if you save the pic, you can view it in full clarity with the gallery app. Does handcent remedy this?
Sent from HTC Inspire 4G running ClearDroid Rom.
Nope. I just tap on the picture and it enlarges to its normal size. Nicely. D:

What rom?
From his signature, it looks like he's running ClearDroid. But, I see what he's saying. I have the same problem. The pic looks pretty ugly when you click on Slideshow within the text message. I also hate that it goes away unless I hit the pause button.
Yep.
If you save it, you can view it later in full resolution, but 99% of my mms's are not something I'd really want to see more than once.
BTW, I'm running cleardroid. I don't think he has a signature.
I don't get a lot of MMS messages typically but I know it works properly in Cyanogen.
Mines not a fuzzy issue that way... well it kind of is. But mine is cause the picture gets compressed way too much. I can send a message to muself that is 5** kb but when I receive it is only 100 or less. And its starting to piss me off cause I do a lot of mms sending and receiving. But if I send to other phones it comes out on theirs the size I sent out

You are using your phone on a carrier other than AT&T, aren't you?

It knows you are trying to fool it, and is saving you from yourself
might be a ClearDroid problem... it works fine on my device (running Android Revolution 5.2.0)
It's not a ClearDroid issue, and I am still on the at&t network, it was doing it before also. And I'm not trying to trick it in any way. Anything under 600 should send that's the max. Cause I had this problem before rooting but thought nothing of it. Just bugging me more now cause I'm doing a lot more lately with family passing away and family that don't live near me.

No problem here. Running CM7.
Stock messaging app compresses the crap out of pictures. They look awful on the receiving end.
Gosms does a much better job. I highly recommend it.
I use gosms free in market. No issues.
I think I'll try gosms. They make my favorite launcher.

Mms issues

iAny one else having mms issues on their att One X. Mine are hit and miss. Can send consistently but some won't download or take forever. I have had mms issues with other Htc devices but when on WiFi.

Guess i am the only one lol. Thats good to know its a single issue
Mine too. I thought it might have something to do with the att messages app I had installed to handle visual voicemail.

Oh okay. I don't have that installed I don't think. Actually on line with tech support right now
Anyone figure this out?
I just tried to send myself an MMS and it failed outbound.
I called and he supposedly didn't see any issues. Reset some things on their end. Had me turn the phone off. Seems to be working right at the moment. Suppose to give me a follow up call Wednesday

I had the same problem.. but i fixed my issue (for now it looks like). I'll help you guys out and make a step by step process..
Step 1) Turn on screen
Step 2) slide ring down
Step 3) Press and hold power button
Step 4) press restart
Presto! its fixed!
But seriously, I couldn't send any MMS, just restarted and now it works again.

Do you have WiFi on ? Personally I think the WiFi data transfer is contributing but can't back it up

Noticed this morning. Left the house and was 15 miles away yet it still said connected to my home WiFi. I really think it has something to do with trying to send via data while WiFi is on. I don't think its switching over properly
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
the only issue i have with the messaging app is how it sometimes resets the text size. very strange.
Yea I tried sending two mms the other day while on WiFi at my house. Both failed. I was eventually able to send them but I think it has something to do with the WiFi.

are you in the app that came with the phone? i'm trying to figure out if it's a function of the size limitation. looks like it's at 300k max for mms in the basic app. handcent's ceiling for an outgoing mms is over 3x higher.
The problem that I having is receiving MMS from iPhone users. I wonder if it has something to do with the 600k size limit within the settings menu? I have had to resort to asking people to e-mail them to me.

the only time i've heard of iphone to one x problems had to do with people taking their micro-sims from their iphones and moving them to the one x. the iphone has to be wiped first to clear the relevant sim card settings or else messages from other iphone users never showed up.
I sent an MMS Monday night and while my phone said it went through, the recipient never received it. Then on Tuesday morning my sms stopped going out and I couldn't make an out bound call connect so I restarted my phone. That fixed the sms and calling issue, and five minutes later I got a text from my friend telling me my Monday night MMS finally went through. I don't think I ever turned WiFi on during all of this but can't remember for sure.

I'm having issues sending a MMS from the Gallery. When I send a pic from the Gallery and share through MMS it doesn't send it. It still shows in the waiting queue. When I select "retry sending" and sends it immediately.

I'm having this problem. My gf is trying to send me an 800 KB file thru MMS and its simply not going thru. It's telling me:
One or more of the message components have been deleted by MMS Adaptation. Either the message was too large or the components were unsuitable for your terminal.
I look in the MMS settings for the phone, and the limit is 600 KB! What is this bull****?! How can iPhones have unlimited MMS size? Is this a carrier restriction?
I am having the same issue with MMS. When I try to send an MMS its really a crap shoot as sometimes it goes through and sometimes it does now. When I select to retry it works.

don't know the answer, but just for comparison, as someone on at&t prepaid on a stock int'l one x, in the native messages app the max size is 300kb! however, if you choose handcent, you can set it much higher - with a warning that it could affect costs for those with light data usage plans.

Why on Earth do people use MMS? Am I missing something here?

Every time a device gets AOSP (for the first time) I see a flood of posts whining about MMS being broken. (I've had an Evo 4G and an Evo 3D and saw this on both when they first got AOSP, now I see it in the unofficial CM9 thread here.)
Why MMS? What's good about MMS that you can't get with any other app or service?
Did I miss the train?
Do you know what mms is? From your post it doesn't sound like it.

Yea.. I gather that as well.
How else would one sext and send nudes?
1) It's universal.
No matter what phone the other person is using, chances are it supports MMS.
2) It's in-line.
Unlike email, you can just go "Here's a picture" instead of "I just sent you an email, you should go check it out"

I know its a serious question but made me laugh a bit. "Why God why!!" Lol
My girlfriend and I send MMS's (plural?lol) all the time. Sometimes she wants to send me something she saw or maybe a new outfit she bought With email I don't always have autosync on for battery life and its just that extra hassle. If I'm trying to send something pretty high resolution I will use email though since it doesn't compress it.
its the easiest and fastest way to send a pic to a person on another mobile phone, any other mobile phone, any OS, any platform, any carrier.
was this a joke?

I guess I just don't get why you couldn't just email pictures or videos. All you have to do is tap after you've taken your picture and the UI asks how you want to share it. I don't know a single human being who still uses MMS outside of these forums and maybe my mother, who keeps buying feature-phones. :^\
It's easier to send a quick picture to a phone than through email. I don't know much of my friend's email addresses off the top of my head

I guess the bigger question is why not?
Almost not wanting to dignify the question... But....
Mms is also used as a group chat in messaging apps like gosms. Allows you to text multiple people at once and everyone in the chat can see everyone elses response. Just fyi

Here is a better question: Why do people still use CDMA carriers such as verizon and sprint? SIM lacking carriers are almost non-existant outside the USA.
Why MMS??? Then why sms ?? Yeah you could SMS but then if u wanted to send a pic or video then you would have to open a separete app which takes more time mms is simply faster

MMS pictures received super crappy

So I've tried using the stock app and 8sms but anytime someone sends me a picture, it comes in super small and very pixelated. Sender can be an iPhone or Android. I've also noticed if someone sends me multiple photos, the last one or 2 is in black and white and not color.
Any suggestions?

This has happened to me too and not found what causes it. I also miss some videos people send. I believe it has to do with the 1200kb max MMS can receive. Wife sent a 1800kb video and everyone got it but me. All of them on verizon, half with android and other half with iphone. Im hoping we can make that max even bigger.

Does anyone know for a FACT the file limit size Verizon will allow it's customers to send via mms??? This would help
Taking 10 seconds out of my day found this. Seems Verizon stats that the limit is 1.2mb which is 1200k correct? So that's our limit to send and receive no matter how high we want to make the setting on the phone, network will only do this?

I installed Textra earlier today and it seems alot better.
Was looking into this as well. I use GoSMS and the pictures from group texts are mad crappy.
I was wondering if a custom ROM would fix it but I guess not.
Anyone getting better results with another messaging app?

Mms low quality

Anyone having low quality mms with the stock messaging app? All the photos my wife sends me are really blurry... She's sending them from an iPhone 6+
Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
mms is always low quality from what i know. no matter what phone
I have noticed on previous phones that the image in the mms app can look fairly poor, but if you download it, it looks fine.
Correct about downloading them fixes the problem.
Thanks for the response guys.. Downloaded but they are still blurry it might be the iPhone mms app.. I sent a picture to myself and it was fine.

I'm having the same issues.. Only receiving pictures less than 30kb..
Verizon website says 1200kb is biggest size available for pictures. So yeah they get smaller, but not that small.. I have spoken to manager of local Verizon store and he says he found a thread on there internal support Forum about the issue. He says samsung is aware and they are working on an update to resolve the issue..
On the flip side, my wife just got a Note 5 and MMS I get from her are 1000% better (I have a Droid Turbo FWIW, her old phone was a GS4)

Was about to ask if it does that being sent from another phone but confirmed note 5 sending is better. Some phones do the compression before sending others might compress before receiving on the server side. Interesting issue none the less.

This problem has been plaguing me for over a year, this is them most helpful information I have found. https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel...ottom-comments
From what I can tell, if Verizon doesn't recognize your phone (mine is on a custom rom) Verizon servers automatically compress incoming MMS to 30-40KB.
"Pixel is resizing the images much more than they should. Take a look at the google pixel product forum. There are many complaints about this.
Every other comment so far is wrong, it's not just due to MMS. Yes MMS compresses/resizes the images to get a smaller file size, but no carrier restricts the image size down to the 30-40KB that Pixel is receiving.
From what I can tell the phone isn't in the carriers MMS phone info database yet, so it doesn't know the phone's capabilities so it defaults to a really old, flip phone user agent that restricts incoming MMS images to 30-40KB.
I have seen other reports of brand new phones having the exact same issue.
So hopefully it's just a matter of time before the carriers fix this.
Edit: I almost forgot, to prove this is an MMS issue and not 'just the way MMS works', download Textra or Chomp and under MMS settings choose Legacy instead of System. I'm not sure what it does, but it forces some other MMS settings to be used and will allow you to receive much higher quality photos."
I finally got it to work better by using Textra and setting it to "legacy" MMS.
