JellyBean coming any day now! - Asus Transformer TF700

Asus just posted this on their Facebook page. It is already rolling out to the TF201 so I suspect it should start rolling out to us any day!

Exact, next Friday regarding this website : http://www.pcinpact.com/news/74099-...finity-android-4-1-disponible-ce-vendredi.htm Can't wait.
And after that (hope it'll can be rooted), i would certainly unlock my TF700.

About rooting, you can root your tablet now and save your root with Voodoo RootKeeper and restore it after JB update.
(ps : it's not relible at 100%, for the .30 firmware update, my root was saved but voodoo rootkeeper did not allow me to restore it after firmware update)

Is JB a forced OTA?
Is this a forced OTA? I don't want to upgrade yet. My TF700 is relied upon too much to go through the early release teething pains many Asus software updates go through. Would like to wait to see if any issues develop.

Try it with SuperSU instead of Superuser app, helped some TF300 users when upgrading to the JB.

For OTA, you tablet should see it and warn you but it won't start the update automatically without your approval AFAIK

If you're rooted, you can disable one of the Asus services with Titanium backup and it will no longer search for updates until you "defrost" it. Believe it's dcim or something along the lines of
*edit* DMClient is what's it's called

Bout time! :good:

Fantastic News. Had JB on my Prime and I'm dying to get a fully functional version on my Infinity.

Heh was about to unlock the device, but I might hold off for this official update first, see how it runs. Can't wait!

Can we install both apps or is it one or the other? I'm new to the rooting and needing to protect it after an update. I don't want to lose flash video and flash games. I got flash player backed up with titanium and used the default superuser app that is installed when running the all in one root guide and voodoo keeper.

You can install both, but only one will be used anyway (SuperSU comes with its own "su" binary AFAIR). In any scenario, remember to run the app you intend to use after installing it (for it to pass privileges properly).
Some Prime users have just reported they were able to keep root with RootKeeper after the OTA JB update, so it seems promising.

It's actually going to be coming early next week, but still better than never.

I'm wondering the same thing, if it's not i wonder if the fota will come across anyway.
well more than likely they will post the version on the website so even if you don't get the ota update you can probably go there download and flash it. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to flash over the leaked 3.1. That shouldn't be a problem.
Will wait
If the official OTA is just a day away, makes sense to wait, instead of flashing the leaked one
Conversely, if the official OTA update is only a day away, there is not likey to be any changes between the leaked and the official updates.

I know the build date on the leaked one was 5/27, so if thats the version we get i would assume its the same
according to the facebook message before that one, they compiled the 3.1 update "last friday evening"...which is consistent with the versio number in the leaked update. 8-4-4-5-20110527.
i hope it is different though because the update is supposed to have a keyboard firmware update as well, and also some have noted (although i'm not sure if true) that kernel and wifi versions went down...which would be a bit weird.
I don't need a signature.
The "leaked" version was sent out a week earlier to the press to try. Could be the same imo

They obviously either accelerated things or just found it an easier upgrade than they thought. I've said it before and I'll say it again: any worries I had about how well Asus would be able to support this device have completely evaporated.

WOW, i dont have that superuser.
ChainsDD released a new version 3.0 for Superuser a few weeks ago (now 3.0.2) after releasing a few betas. Being a system app for most ROMs, Superuser was probably set for Automatic Updating, that's why it updated itself on your phones. Besides a new GUI, it mainly added new features with the Superuser Elite app. Here is the changelog at the Superuser website http://androidsu.com/superuser/changelog/
Most of my system apps show up in red in titanium backup. This allows you to attach and detach them from the market, and do other titanium functions on them. Unfortunately superuser doesn't show up at all in titanium. Is there anyway to make it show up?

Probably the wifi calling fix update..
My phone that I ordered on launch day(and just received earlier today) has software number "1.53.531.16 710RD" ... I have not received any update.
Is your software number any different after the update?
Hmm, when did you get your phone and do you happen to remember what your version was before the update? I just looked at my software version and it's 1.53.531.16 710RD and my phone has not been updated as far as I know. I just got it on Sunday.
I realised that I phrased my post wrong. Updated, I haven't received any update. Sorry for confusion.

this software update is actually the one that has the effected wifi calling battery drain..
not all the phones Tmo initially released has the software with the issues on it.. i was thinking last saturday when i got the notification of the software update it was the fix but after looking over the software version i had a different one and the one they were trying to send me was the bad one so i just ignored the update and didnt run it..
Can you still receive update after rooting or even putting a custom rom on it?

What state does your phone need to be in to get an update?
It seems most people progress in the following order. At what point do you stop getting updates?
A, Completely Stock
B, + Unlocked bootloader
C, + CWM recovery
D, + Rooted
E, + Custom rom
I know that you'll get it with (A) obviously... and that you won't get it with (E). What about (B), (C), and (D)... what affects whether you get an update or not?
Depends on how customized your ROM is; I still get updates on my kindle Fire with MoDaCo ROMs.

you will still receive ota updates on any rom until you remove the ota service. however, if you have a different recovery or have removed certain system apps the update will fail to apply.

Slightly confused here...
I rooted my S via the HTCDev site, installed CW recovery etc but did not install any ROM yet. Will I be able to get this update from TMO or do I have to unroot and go back to stock to receive it?
I think most likely that that the OP just got a phone with the older pre releae verision of software.
That is the same software mine had out of the box.

I just tried, and Crystal_Root.zip, fails the verification step when attempting to have it load in recovery mode.
Is there some another method for root?
Just to add, I tried Root MANY ANDROID, both "new" and "old" method, and it didn't successfully root this tablet either. :crying:

I'm finding it to be pretty solid. There are a couple of apps which seem to be not compatible with it (fancy widgets, @tv), that's the only other thing that disappoints me. If root doesn't come along soon, though, I will probably return it.
Well I'm going to see if local stores have any left so I can try to exchange.

I managed to swap tablets today.
The new one is less buggy so far. There are no visible dead pixel (like the first one). Also there seems to be less edge bleed and better viewing angles.
I am still having problems with the screen staying black. (Reset pin and long hold power to reboot it). However I'm think Holo Launcher could be a source of this quirk. So I'm going to delete it for a day. :what:
Hopefully it keeps working and we get root eventually.

Very Exciting News over here
Hi all!
Did some reading through the ODIN thread for the Verizon GS5. I'm still on 4.4.2, rooted, because I didn't see the benefit in just going to 4.4.4 and having to jump through hoops to keep root.
With 5.0 on the horizon here, I'm hoping people can shed some light on the update process, even if it means losing root. Currently when an OTA update is attempted, it downloads, goes into the stock bootloader, attempts to install, realizes that a "custom firmware" was attempted, and tells me the update failed. I just froze sdm 1.0 through Titanium and figured I would worry about it once Lollipop approached.
With that being said, is the only way to make the phone not read "custom" with the unlock symbol on boot to revert back to stock with Odin? Just planning to see if it's possible to keep data on the upgrade or if I'll essentially have to start from scratch.
Thanks!
