[GT-I9305] Australian Samsung Galaxy SIII 4G Root Guide - NOT for other variants - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Android Deve

Guide to rooting your Samsung Galaxy SIII 4G - I9305 - Optus firmware
Hi Everyone, so I have been spending the last 3 or 4 days trying to work out how I can gain root access on my I9305.
The only thing I was able to find was horror stories of people bricking their devices...
After a lot of research (and quickly learning how android OS images work!) I was able to generate my own custom rom for the i9305.

Things to note:
THIS IS FOR THE AUSTRALIAN I9305 (OPTUS) SGSIII 4G ONLY! DO NOT FLASH THIS IMAGES TO ANY OTHER DEVICE!!!
I will not be responsible for any damage done to your device or PC(s), flashing custom rom's can be risky, so please be careful!
This will most likely wipe your phone, so make sure you backup first!
This rom is 100% stock, it does not remove any optus apps or branding,
This will NOT give you the yellow triangle at boot
the MD5 sums for the files are below

to check these, download MD5summer from www.md5summer.org
How did I do it?
I originally created an insecure boot image, flashed it to the device and tried to gain root via adb, however this did not work, so I unpacked the system image file, added the nessicary binaries and repacked it.
Once I had done this, I was able to flash the system image with odin.
What do I need to do?
1. Download Odin (you might be able to use heimdall, however I have not tested this!)
https://hotfile.com/dl/173880315/eee04eb/Odin3_1.85.zip.html
2. Download the image (3 parts, zip files)

3. Unzip Odin to an easy to access place (such as your desktop)
4. Unzip the image file to the same directory.
Use either winrar (www.rarlabs.com) or 7-zip (www.7-zip.org) to extract the multi-part zip.
5. Boot your SGS in to download mode
(power off... then press and hold the power + volume down + home buttons at the same time)
6. Connect your phone to your PC using the cable that came with it.
If you are using a laptop make sure you connect it to a port on the machine not the docking station (if you have one). If your machine has USB3 try to avoid using the USB3 ports.
7. Open the Odin application
Make sure your phone is detected, there will be a yellow square in the top left corner (see below screen dump)
8. Make sure it looks similar to the below screen (same options ticked, the .tar file in the 'PDA' section)
9. Press start and wait. Your phone will be flashed and reboot when it is finished.
10. That's It, once the phone has booted you will have root access.

Very clever mick,
Well done.

Amazing work! So with the three zips - best way to join as one?

i use winrar, however you could use 7-zip as well.
www.rarlabs.com or www.7-zip.org

I'll upload these to my own site for faster immediate download for others . I'm currently redownloading part 3 since it seems to be corrupted. Eager to root my phone, thanks for the ROM!

I am willing to bet it will work on any GT-I9305... Even the european one As its exactly like someone flashing A I9300 to a I9300 from australia or a I9300T they all work together I have done it perfectly without a problem.
So I would say All I9305 are the same Overseas and australians... BUT IT HAS TO BE I9305 Model number

Woohoo, it worked! Thanks a ton. Confirmed working on my I9305 from Optus.
Unfortunately my upload speed is rather slow so those waiting for an alternate download link will have to wait for a while. I'm only uploading part 1 tonight (available in 80 minutes) and will upload part 2 and 3 tomorrow morning.

Good work Mick. Have you tried installing any of the CWM's?

Do you need to do any sort of wipe prior to installing?

Cool thanks. So am not famililar with wiping except through CWM - do you just use the Samsung wipe in settings??

Dial *2767*3855# in the stock dialer, that is the quickest way.
but you will get NO warning, the phone will just begin to erase itself, so make sure you are ready!

Yes thanks. And is that a complete format of the SD card or a wipe like the CWM wipes which keep some settings on your SD card?

[GUIDE] Rooting ALCATEL OT-918 (v2.3.6)

Hello everybody,
This is just a small guide I made for rooting ALCATEL OT-918 (Maybe also 918D or M) devices on which SuperOneClick fails. Most of the files are not by me so all credit goes to the original author...
Tutorial:
01) Unzip usb_driver.zip and install the drivers. (phone shall not be off an plugged in, thx dbask)
02) Copy the file Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip to the root of your SD card.
03) Make sure your battery is fully charged and turn off your phone.
04) Head to the directory SP_Flash_Tool_v2.1134.00 and start FlashTool.exe.
05) Make sure the menu Options->USB Mode is checked.
06) Use attached scatter file creator to make scatter. (or use Android_2.3.6_MT6573_Android_scatter_918.txt)
Warnings/Errors like this can be safely ignored:
Code:
[Warning Hint] Get BMT block count fail, default BMT block count is used!
Code:
[Hint] Bootloader files are lost when automatically loading by scatter file.
Code:
Please make sure you want to go through anyway.
Code:
DSP_BL is unchecked, which may result in a boot failure
07) Check the entry with name "RECOVERY" and double click it.
08) Select the recovery.img file and again make sure ONLY one entry is checked.
09) Click the Download button and plugin your phone with the USB cable.
* Wait some time (untill the recovery file is loaded to your phone) *
10) Unplug your phone and press the volume up and power button at once
11) Select "Flash Zip from SDCard" and choose the Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
12) Confirm the update and reboot your phone. Everything should be done, phone is rooted!
Actual tutorial made by others. I only try to make it a bit more clear.

ALCATEL Scatter Retriever v0.1
Just to make this thread a little development related: I coded a tool that should be able to automatically create scatter files for your (ALCATEL) device. It is only tested on my own device but it should work for other (ALCATEL) devices too (Sources can be posted if needed).

Last words
The tools and files used to make this tutorial are not created by me. The FlashTool is made by MediaTek (the company that makes the ALCATEL devices), the recovery.img is made by somebody at 592zn, the USB Drivers are made by MediaTek/Alcatel (unsure).

I am very grateful...It was successful in restoring but it doesn't boot...it shows the logo then goes to a blank screen.
By the way I have Alcatel OT-918(without D/M/N) running Android 2.3.6.
Is there something that I should do before of after the restore?
I have tried with wiping the cache/data/dalvik cache before restore & after .
I give it alot of time but it doesn't seem to boot.
Is it possible that you give me the data and cache files too.Please......that is if it is possible..
Thanks alot

download the One Touch Upgrade software from here: http://www.alcatelonetouch.com/ph/products/andorid_smartphones/ot-918.html to reinstall your OS
to root, use this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27178532&postcount=16
Device is upto date and exits
I did that and it says there is no other later version than the one already install on your device and it exits.
Is there anything else I can do?
Thanks
@kippsoft: Sorry, but I cannot give my data and cache... it contains private stuff such as contacts, emails, password and all stuff like that... nothing more to do I guess
@ mr.expdia: I am very very grateful
I am very gratefull for all that you have one to me.Your time spend and assistance is highly appreciated.
Thanks alot.
But said those images were for Alcatel OT-918?Please confirm that?
I thought those were images before you used your phone...it is okay.
And do you have any working custom rom for 2.3.6? Most of the available are for 2.3.5.
Though my problem is not solved...I have learn alot and that is exactly what I wanted when I joined xda.
Thanks to all.:good:
They are captured while rooting my phone, so yes. And I do not have a custom rom, I think you need to wait for one to be created.

Same problem was with me too. But my phone was in warranty so I got it to service center and now it will be replaced with a new one. Hey XDA Guys is there anyway we can prevent this thing? Even I did wipe all data and the phone just booted till screen where Android image comes and then restart.

Q: What do i need to do in order to install a custom ROM?
1.Unlock Bootloader from htcdev.com.
2.Flash a recovery of your choice.
3.Root using the permanent root solution flashed via recovery, found in Data/Root or select the Root menu and flash your desired thingy.
4.Flash custom ROM with no problems via recovery.
All those things are found and can be done via this tool.
Q: Hi, i just downloaded this tool, how do i use it?
First, extract the folder of the archive in the root of some partition, example above and somewhere below.
After that, run M7MultiTool vX.X.bat on windows, M7MultiToolvX.X-M.sh on MAC and M7MultiToolvX.X-L.sh on Linux.
Q: I see you talk about some M7MultiTool vX.X, is that an eXtreme edition or something?
No, vX.X will be replaced with the version from the title of the thread, this is made like this to keep things clean over future updates, so there will be no need to change things all around the thread after each update.
Q: Hi, i just bought a phone what should i do now?
Well, you firstly need to unlock your bootloader, just go to HTCdev.com and follow the instructions to unlock your bootloader.
Q: What is logcat?
Well, you can pretty much use google for that answer, but to put it short, is that thingy that tells you what is happening behind the scenes of your phone.
It is usually used for debugging and entertaiment(?).
When you report an error/bug to somebody, it will be a blessing to provide a logcat (logfile)!
Q: What is DMESG?
According to wikipedia: dmesg (display message or driver message) is a command on most Linux- and Unix-based operating systems that prints the message buffer of the kernel.
We use it for debugging purposes, providing it while reporting a kernel bug/error is a blessing.
Q: Hi, i have an unlocked bootloader, what should i do now?
Well, you should flash a custom recovery via bootloader, for that you just need to turn off your phone without fastboot activated, hold Volume down + Power button untill a white screen appears, if it appears a black one with some blue letters, you probably have a fake one
Q: What is a Custom Recovery and why do i need one?
A custom recovery is that thingy that let's you flash .zip files, use your logic and you wil get it why you need one.
Q: Do i need S-OFF on my phone?
HTC One has a nice unlocked bootloader, S-OFF is not needed as you can flash custom ROM's and kernels directly via Recovery.
Also, S-OFF is not available *YET* for HTC One.
Q:There are others guides/tutorials out there, should i check them instead of this?
If you manage to get things done using this one, no, otherwise yes, note that some could be outdated
Changelog: v1.1 - 23 May 2013 - Added Permanent Root flashing.
v1.0 - 23 May 2013 - First public release, providing recovery flashing, driver installer, htcdev.com code provider, cid getter, logging (logcat and dmesg), backup and restore, rebooting.

I know you need adb debugging on, don't know if it will work without root, you can give it a try, if it doesn't work, you can use Helium from Google Play, can backup even on non-rooted devices, but beware, i used it and for example CSR Racing couldn't be restored, so i remained with my online save, which was waaay behind.
Hope this helps.
@Lexmazter, luckily the games i have on my phone have not been started yet. only some emulators that have some real-time saves on them, they should be easily copied back and forth from the internal memory. probably just gonna copy all files from internal to pc and then copy them back after rooting then re-install the apps \ games manually.....................sudeki300

been so long since i flash anything.
Is this a update.zip via recovery or is it a odin?
Also knox trip correct?
Thank you sooooo much
@TEKHD can you add a recovery flashable OK2 baseband too please.
Edit - WiFi password not sticking on reboot.
Awesome! Thank you!
Can't wait for a bloat ware removed version.
Ditto on the flash able baseband
WOW that was FAST!
Many thanks for that.
Might you be willing to upload an odexed version? I don't care about theming so the vanilla setup is just fine. Cheers.
This ROM is AMAZING! Thanks so much for breathing life in our phones
Feature wake up the edge screen when phone locked (swipe the Edge green left then right) is dead.

That has been removed by T-Mobile/Sammy in this 5.1.1 - not something about this particular ROM

I'm stock and on the last T-Mobile update, and I still have the ability to do that, I don't think either T-Mobile or Samsung removed that from the software.
Sorry, then I'm mistaken...

As I said - i just saw in another thread that someone was also complaining about the 'Edge unlock feature' that has been removed by this rom. (" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64130770&postcount=14 ")
Then I guess it HAS something to do with this modified ROM.
I will anyway spend time this weekend installing this modified ROM and test and report back.
I am also planning to flash the SAMmy stock rom, root and report back on that.
Sorry if I created confusion.

I wipe: system, data and cache before I flashed with TWRP 2.8.7.0
I got a "zip signature verification failed 1" error.
Nothing wrong with the zip, I can open it and extract the contents.
Did I miss anything pre-required?
Thanks

I just flashed it. Coming from the Note 4 port. I did factory reset 3 times then flashed. Nothing else. First thing I tried was video call and it worked.
Seems pretty smooth but I haven't downloaded all my personal bloat yet. lol
EDIT: Well I was on it this version long enough to play memory game and tiny burgers on the edge. Backed it up in case I need an edge game fix and am back on the Note 4 port elite!
Still get the Error "Zip signature verification failed"

I re-downloaded the file and check the MD5 values on the SD-card - they match. There is nothing wrong with this status of .zip file.
What are you using to falsh it with?. As I said - I used TWRP 2.8.7.0 - maybe that is the problem??
Ideas are welcome, as I would HATE to goto the stock rom and not have root.....

[C2304] Installing TWRP or CWM recovery in the Xperia C

Well, I just purchased this device and came here after that to look at what we had and I'm disgusted.
And there are several reasons for that, being:
1 - Locked Bootloader...
2 - This forum seems somewhat abandoned, which leads it to be somewhat disorganized.
EdiT:
Thanks to our friend repey6 > http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=5704037
TWRP 2.8.7.0 is now included, and it works just ok, with all functionality.
I strongly recommend you to use it instead of any other recovery. Just make sure to backup your ROM again after installing it, as CWM or Carliv backups won't work in TWRP.
I replaced the old TWRP included in the attachments with the new one provided by repey6, but the installation process remains the same.
Plus, this was not created by me and it's mad old (2014). But still it works better than the Carliv Recovery we have available here...
So Let's go. The proccess is the same for both, just choose the recovery image you want in the end of the topic.
(almost forgot to say that if your phone bricks it's you responsibility, I tested it in mine and it is working fine)
STEPS:
STEP1- Root your phone (if it's not rooted yet).
To root your phone you'll need to:
a-Download the framaroot APK provided in the attachments
b-Install it then click in the Boromir option and the su binary will be installed.
c-Download SuperSU from google play store.
That's all, simple like that.
STEP2- Check your bootloader's S1 Version
a-Open your dialer and input *#*#7378423#*#* , then go to Service Info>Software Info> S1 Boot Version.
b- Check if yours is 2.14.J.2.6 or 2.14.J.2.13 or 2.14.J.2.16 . If yours is one of these go ahead, it should work just fine and you can proceed.
If yours is 2.14.J.0.68 do not proceed, as it will 100% brick your phone.
c- My phone has S1 Boot Version 2.14.J.1.15 and in spite of the developer having not mentioned anything about it, I risked it all and my phone flashed the recovery normally, so if your version is also 2.14.J.1.15, it should work just fine and you can proceed.
STEP3 - Install the recovery
NOW, BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL HERE, OTHERWISE YOU WILL HARD BRICK YOUR PHONE:
a-Download the mobileuncle.apk file provided in the attachments and install it.
b-Download the twrp_xperia_C.img file provided below and put it in your internal memory (not on the external). Rename it to recovery.img, otherwise mobile uncle won't see it.
Now, here's the part you have to mind, so you won't brick your phone.
Mobile uncle can install a recovery using one of two methods. One is by installing the image from your internal memory (which we'll be doing). Other is installing it from the internet.
Now, YOU DON'T WANT to install a recovery from the internet, as mobile uncle doesn't provide any image for your device. So if you flash any of these recoveries, you'll never be able to make your phone boot again.
See in the image below and you'll get what I mean:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
c - So, before proceeding TURN OFF YOUR WIFI AND DATA CONNECTIONS so that mobile uncle won't show any recovery from internet
d-Open mobile uncle.
e-Grant Super User
f-Press "Recovery Update"
g- With wifi turned off, you'll see only your recovery in the screen
h- Click it, the file size of the file I'm posting must be around 6MB ( 6210KB for CWM), if it's different cancel and download file again.
i- press ok and restart.
DONE
:good:
EDIT:
I just noticed that after flashing the recovery you might get your phone stuck in the SONY logo after it.
In fact it happened to me, but just once.
If that happens don't panick. Recove the cover of your phone and besides the SIM-2 slot you'll see a tiny role with the word "reset". Insert a needle in there and your phone will restart normally.

It should work in both, I'm using a recovery for C2305 in my C2304.
Just don't try flashing a C2305 ROM on your C2304. It will not hardbrick your phonw, but the SIM cards will not work and you will get a mad functioning phones.
Some custom ROM's based on stock firmware work in both though.
Hey anyone tried for xc 2305???
So my S1 bootloader version is: 2.14.J.0.68. Is it for sure there is nothing that can be done?

Sorry for the late reply! Haven't been able to test this until recently due to an issue getting my PC to work properly with my phone. Anyway, I would like to confirm that I was able to flash this on my Xperia C2305 that had S1 Boot Version 2.14.J.0.68. The photo below is proof of CWM running on my Xperia C2305:
Things you will need:
WMShua SuperFlash: http://soft.flushrom.com/WMShuaSetup.exe (after installing, you can change the language to English by renaming Program Files/wmshua/language to Program Files/wmshua/language_x)
Xperia C 16.0.B.2.16 FTF: C2305_16.0.B.2.16_TacoNikky.ftf or C2305_16.0.B.2.16_Congngheviet.ftf (pick one; I used TacoNikky's version)
Procedure:
1. Open WMShua, then click on Flash (not Super Flash). Browse to the FTF file you downloaded. You can choose to backup system before flash (I unchecked it on mine). Follow the screenshot below for guidance:
2. Turn off your phone. Next, hold down the Vol- (volume down) button on your phone. While holding down, plug in the micro USB cable. The LED will flash red. When it changes to green, release the Vol- button. WMShua should automatically try to install the needed drivers. After installing drivers, it will begin the flashing process. If your phone turns on instead, simply unplug it from the USB, turn it off, then try again.
The flash process may take a long time (it took 30+ minutes for me), and sometimes it may look like it hanged, but it's actually working. Just be patient. Once it reaches 100%, your phone will automatically boot up. Check your S1 Boot Version—it should now be 2.14.J.2.16. You may find that you've lost root, so you will need to root it again (I use KingoRoot). After rooting, follow the instructions on the first post to install CWM or TWRP. Good luck!

Hi all
I hereby present to you a cool addition for our beloved Note3 (SM-N9005 model).
Photos
Thanks to my junior @Kill-Switch
Please read the steps properly before you start flashing.
Don't hold me responsible for any damages you might end up doing to your device if you choose to flash either of the 4 files that I'm providing to you! :cyclops:
1. Go to Download mode.
2. Flash the BL file using Odin (remove Auto-Reboot tick).
3. After its been flashed completely, remove the data cable & pull out the battery.
4. Go to the Download Mode again.
5. This time, flash the CP file using Odin (don't remove Auto-Reboot tick).
These are links to 2 sets:
GPS works fine for me in the newer set, it might work for you with the older set.
1. Old
&
2. New
Tbh, the way I did it was, I flashed the Old set initially (photographs from that time) then I flashed the Newer set (hoping GPS would be better) & I still have the "Powered by Android" text in my phone.

If I'm not wrong, this is the boot splash that you've modified. If so, then let me make one small request . Can you please make another one That says Note 7 instead of Note 3
Edit: I know this basic fact that boot splash (param.bin) has nothing to do with CP (modem) so I only flashed the new BL file with auto reboot ticked in Odin and it was success for me without the need to change my modem or follow the steps in OP. I've got the new boot splash now. Good job mate, hop you will make one that I've requested :good:

Yeah but I thought you just edited the image from the bootloader. Is this a custom bootloader then? Not a lot of info on the OP but I'm still a bit of noob with boot loaders and modems

Just an opinion, but for those who like the hassles, can just grab the latest stock Note 3 firmware on sammobile and flash it using Odin. I did that and saw the Powered by Android text when I rebooted my phone. Its a good thing to update your bootloader and baseband as well, but if you like the simple way then go ahead with this one.
P.S Nice guide by the way
This didn't work for me though. I tried installing both new and old, untick auto-reboot, retick auto-reboot, all the tricks in the book, restarted the phone, after each method, no Powered by Android
