Hi guys. Sorry if this has been answered before but some reason I couldn't find any answers for this question.
I rooted my device but didn't unlock it. Now when the jelly bean update will be coming within a year or so I was wondering that do I get the ota update for this or do I have to update it manually?
Also been reading two kind of answers about the warranty. Is it now void after rooting or only after unlocking?
Thank you for the help!

Still locked CAN receive OTA update to JB. But, some people (like me) are having problems with download coming through. As long as your locked, you can download from Asus.
As to root, technically, you voided warranty. Used to be they had no way of knowing without you unlocking.
BUT, I'm hearing stories that tell of Asus device tracker being able to find out and report it back to company.
That is highly possible. They're various stories about it, and Device Tracker too.
If you haven't activated it, DON'T.

Hey guys my brother just got this tablet a few days ago and he's getting pretty frustrated with the stock software provided by Asus. I'm going to install CleanROM or CM10 on his tablet, still haven't decided. Anyways everywhere I've read says the bootloader unlock tool provided by Asus is meant for Android 4.0 only. I've heard conflicting reports of it working for some users on JB and not for others.
Does anyone know of a way to unlock the bootloader successfully on 4.1.1? I'm a pretty advanced user and can figure out everything else no problem, I just don't want to risk damaging his tablet.
Thanks.

Go to the Asus website and download the unlock apk in the utilities section.

I can confirm the boot loader unlocking tool works on the jb update.
I think Saenz is the only Rom available with the new jb boot loader.

How did you run it? I downloaded the apk ran it and got an error. I'm on 4.1.1 (the latest that was released)... is there a way to unlock the bootloader on 4.1.1 latest?

... except when it doesn't.
Take a look at some of the recent posts on the topic and you'll see that some people have had a hard time getting it to unlock. The device dials home during the unlock process and places the serial number into a database. If that process terminates abnormally then you don't get to unlock.
I have seen the posts as well.
I understood the question to be whether JB could be unlocked or just ICS.
i got a refurbed tf300 and the unlock app worked once i registered my device on asus website.
I had root with ICS and lost it with the OTA JB update. I've been toying with the idea of unlocking and rooting but dragging my heels in the hope some clever developer will find a way to root without unlocking. It's been a while now though and there has been no obvious signs it might happen soon. So it's just a simple question really, and in no way should it be seen as a nag or a whinge
Is anyone aware of any developers who are actively working on getting root on JB without unlocking? Or should I just stop waiting and get on with my life?

I am also very interested.....
Try as I may I cannot unlock the tablet, latest JB and C8 serial, unlocked app give network error.

Have you search in Dev forum ?
You will find that one dev works for one rom for TG
Search and read a little => go to the TF300 dev forum
I read the Dev forum regularly and haven't seen any comments suggesting that root for JB is imminent. In fact you, yourself state in the Dev forum that root on JB isn't possible.
Could you be less cryptic perhaps?

Unlocking, Rooting, and ROM's question
I'm new with Tablets forgive me if this is a stupid question but is there possably any way to use one program to unlock and root or just root the Asus TF300T without messing with the ROM on version 4.2.1 android jelly bean? The reason I ask is bc I'm use to doing things and rooting on my droid razr and for that all you need is razr utility. So basically is there a utility out there or wil there be one in the future for my Asus TF300T like something thats simple and your rooted? please somebody let me know it I'm dieing to get this TF rooted.
Hi all,
Now we have root on locked devices (all creds to Morlok8k, I was wondering if an alternative to the Asus unlock tool is for grasp? I'm not a dev in any sense, but one of the unfortunate RMA-and-unable-to-unlock-bootloader guys.
So what do you guys think? Is it possible? I know Dan Rosenberg did the magic for a couple of Moto devices, and I would eternally grateful if I would be able to custom flash my TF300 which I love so dearly. :fingers-crossed:

Unlikely for JB boot loader and above. Same reason we cannot downgrade back to ICS boot loader.
Might be possible for ICS boot loaders, but not sure a dev is interested enough to put in the work.
Sorry, don't get your hopes up!
Though I like to be surprised too.

Yeah, I know... But we all know the magic that happens on XDA. "Not possible" is simply not part of their vocabulary  I guess we just have to wait and see! I'm sure all those Moto-users didnt' think they would be unlocked at all :victory:
I was pretty sure I wouldn't be rooting my tf300 any time soon and yet, here we are!
There is a thread in the development section where lots of very talented developers pulled apart the ASUS unlocker app to try to do what you propose. Unfortunately, they all came to the same conclusion. It's just not gonna happen. If someone like the guy who unlocked the Motorola bootloaders were to try, there would be a chance, but he's, like, one in a billion.
I would love to see this happen even though I'm already unlocked, just because. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

Unfortunately, I'm not in the US, so I'm out of luck. But there's good news too! I've actually am in touch with Dan Rosenberg at the moment
He asked me through PM what was up with the Asus bootloader. I've send him the following e-mail:
Hey Dan,
Thanks for your reply concerning the Asus unlock bootloader tool. I'm very grateful to get your attention, since you are truely legendary within the scene (and I'm not even a dev myself ) The issue that they have is that all TF300's returning from RMA are not unlockable anymore. I've send mine in for 3 times to have this issue solved (first it returned without SN inserted, next time I couldn't do OTA update / unlock, same goes for it now).
There are numerous threads on XDA where people are complaining that they can't unlock. Any contact with Asus about this is clear: we are not supporting the unlock tool. What the unlock tool does is send the proc ID + SN to the servers of Asus (encrypted) and the unlock code will be returned. So far no one has been able to bypass this in any way (mostly because of the heavy encryption used, people say it "can't be done". But then again, I never thought I would be able to root my locked tablet until your fantastic tool came along.
Thanks for your time, I know there would be a lot of happy people out there to be able to custom rom their tablet.
I hope you can help us out. If there's anything I can do (eg: borrow you my locked tab), I'd be happy to. I know how frustrating this is (including Asus attitude), and if I in some way can help people out, I'd be happy to have my share in it.
Thanks again,
Kind regards
Fingers crossed that he might be up for the challenge! Indeed he's one in a billion.
Got a response from Dan:
I'd be happy to take a look at your bootloader, but I can't make any
promises, since it's entirely possible Asus has implemented the unlock
process in a cryptographically strong way that is impossible to bypass.
Would you be able to pull the boot partition from your device and send
it to me? Let me know if you need instructions on how to do this.
...I tried to use ROMdump to pull the boot partition but was unable to because of permissions. Is there anyone out there with slightly more experience to help me out here?
Already the fact that he's willing to have a look is a big step forward!
:fingers-crossed:
Hi all,
I'm new to XDA, and somewhat new to android. I have a long history of jailbreaking iDevices, so this whole concept isn't too foreign to me. I have an Asus Transformer TF700T, and I get speed hiccups way too often, and even after "repair," it still doesn't work 100%, so I decided to root and/or unlock it to run a new ROM.
Question 1: I'm aware that unlocking it will void the Asus 1 year warranty, however, I purchased a squaretrade warranty as well, and would like to know if it voids ST's warranty, and/or, will they not repair it, even for non-OS problems like physical damage?
Question 2: Once I unlock the device, I know I won't be allowed to receive OTAs, but will I still be able to update the Android firmware by downloading it on my PC and moving it onto the device? Or will I be stuck on the same firmware 'till I wipe my device or something?
Thanks

AFAIK Squaretrade does not care if you unlocked or rooted your device, they will repair/replace it regardless.
If you unlock, why would you want to run the stock rom and rely on Asus updates? Unlocking or rooting by itself will not make your tablet run any better on stock software. The benefit of unlocking is that you can run a custom rom like CROMi-X on this tablet and you won't be looking back ever!
CROMi-X unlocks the potential of this tablet and is better supported than any stock rom!
Full disclosure: Yes, I am a hopeless fanboy of CROMi-X
There are also other custom roms for this tablet like CyanogenMod or Paranoid, but IMO CROMi-X is the most stable and best supported rom for this device. Look for the thread in the Development section.
Since I own the TF700 there have been - what? Three updates to the stock rom?
CROMI and it's JB 4.2.1 successor CROMi-X have been updated - jeez, I lost count - at least 10 times??? And it gets better each time!

Hello xda'ers, I am new to this topic and would like to migrate from stock to cromi-X. I'm currently on JB 4.2.1 and build 10.6.1.14.10. I'm also aware that going ahead with this will void my warranty as well as disable accessibility to OTAs.
Thanks

correct, cromi (along with the other roms here) are better than any Asus OTA will be Asus publish the firmware on their site anyway which is very easy to flash from a custom recovery.
