You're not sure if you're unlocked, well are you in a custom recovery when this happens? Which one? How did you root/unlock? That error doesn't look familiar at all. I want to say Odin back to stock then root and then unlock.
Your post is worded oddly. Are you saying you accepted the Verizon OTA then this code presents itself on the stock recovery?

My bad just a lot upset with vzw. Before I updated that vrlg7 zip update I was rooted with unlocked boot loader running cm 10 nightlies. When I updated it took root and who knows what else. I then rerooted and tried using the e-z unlock app, rooted but don't think I'm unlock because of the vzw applied file or whatever that said. All I know is I can't load my cm 10 nightlies. But I'm rooted please. Help.

Just Odin back to stock using section 6 of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709this thread then root/unlock. Use EZ unlock v1.2 http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32456-app-920-ez-unlock-14-easiest-way-to-unlock-your-bootloader/from here. You'll be fine to use CM10 once you install recovery using EZ Recovery which is in the Play Store. You already know this process deletes your data so use whatever method you are familiar with to recover your apps and contacts.
Also, backup your IMEI.

Phone Potentially Bricked? Oops.

Alright so I started the process of rooting, unlocking, and flashing the Bean ROM on my VZW GS3. I backed up using Nandroid and Titanium backup, rooted and unlocked the bootloader using EX Unlock yesterday. Then, without flashing a ROM, I rebooted my phone. And then I got drunk. Today, I flashed recovery, booted into recovery mode, deleted the user data (again) and installed then installed the Bean ROM. I figured my bootloader was still unlocked but I guess it wasn't. Now I'm getting the "This System Software not authorized by Verizon Wireless..." message.
Anybody have any clue what to do now?

Hey guys, so I have been trying to work at this and here is where I'm at...
I'm following section 6 of this post [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709]. Everything works as listed except for when I select the ROM from the three in that post and try and run it through Odin. It always fails. I tried all three ROMs with the same result and since I don't know what exactly is keeping this from working, I can't troubleshoot it in any way. If anyone could help, I would really appreciate it.
Thank you!

New OTA Update

So I just got some type of OTA update from Verizon, I have an unlocked bootloader as well as rooted. Can I install this update or will it brick? The file is under /cache/fota/update.zip 30.92mb. I thought if you was rooted you couldn't even get OTA's. Any ideas? I renamed the file so it wouldn't update even though it asked me when to install and I entered 10pm tonight to retry.

It's a pretty major security patch so hopefully someone here puts it in a package for flashing. Someone else said they just unlocked again immediately after but I'm not sure how to best approach it for you.

Rooting doesn't do anything about receiving updates, it's a particular file that is phoning home.

Do you have a rom? If not people are saying they installed update and rooted device again.
I just got it this morning as well.... I'm stock rooted and I don't want the update. Do I have to accept it? Do I need to un-root? What will happen to my Google Wallet & Google Now?
I'd like to know also, I am stock rooted, unlocked and don't know if I should accept the update or not??
I got the same update but it flashed itself into recovery and then failed to install the update. Says "install aborted"

You are right, I clicked "OK", it rebooted and went into CWM. I clicked "reboot now", when the phone finished booting I got an error message. Hopefully it won't continue doing this.
No I'm on a stock rooted ROM, it tried to install just now and failed as well.

This is because you all most likely have a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM and it can only install on stock recovery. If you freeze sdm1.0 it wont keep asking you to update

I've heard that to be safe, you need to re-lock the boot loader, un-root, and go back to stock in order to accept the updates.
There is a guide to do that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867253

[Q] Rooted my verizon s3 with instructions on this forum and now I'm am stuck

Everything was fine with the root however I used a font app installer that got the phone stuck in a boot loop (on the rainbow screen). How do I get back to rooted JB?
Did you do a back up of your original rom? You need to get back into recovery...
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
No I didn't. I didn't see that in the instructions or I missed it. Any thoughts on how to get back to rooted JB?
Well if the font app got you into the boot loop then I don't think you lost root, I would get back into recovery wipe cache and hit reboot... See if that works... Good luck
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Unfortunately, I tried that. I think I did an accidental factory reset too but nothing has brought it back from the boot rainbow screen.
Did you unlock using EZ Unlock v1.2? You only mentioned that you rooted.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
No, I didn't use that. I followed the instructions to root found here (worked no problem until I met that $&#^%#& app) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439 I think I can reset using Odin I just don't know what to use
Aight, well did you unlock the bootloader? Your response dictates the suggested route to resolve this.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I did follow the instructions to unlock the bootloader
If that's the case then you just need to boot into recovery and flash a rom. If you were running just stock rooted & unlocked VRBLK3, it's easier to just flash a rooted stock rom like the official VRBLK3 leak here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2034118
Try just flashing that, without wiping, then boot into the rom.
or
If you were on a custom rom, just reflash that rom via recovery and you'll be fine. Unfortunately you lose all your settings of you wipe data in recovery so try reflashing either option without wiping if you absolutely need to try recovering whatever data already exists in your current rom. If this doesn't work, format data, wipe cache then flash the rom.

I will give it a shot and let you know. Thanks so much! I was on stock ROM btw.

Yes it does need to be there. If you have an sdcard just drag and drop onto it directly then flash in your custom recovery. Conversely, you should be able to boot into recovery and try connecting your phone to the laptop then dragging the zip over.
The longer method will be to Odin flash VRBLK3 and start all over from there.

Aight well since that failed, you have to do this the long way: Odin flash the VRBLK3 rooted image from your laptop onto your phone. Choose one of the two images for VRBLK3 and follow the directions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984436
Edit: I realize I didn't ask but do you have an sd card?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
That worked! Thanks so much. Now, what is the best practice for backing things up so that I don't have this problem again? Should I root first then backup? Do I still have to unlock bootloader? Just wanting to handle this properly from this point forward.
It should be rooted already if you installed the Odin files from MrRobinson thread. It should come with either SuperSU or SuperUser correct? You also should still be unlocked but you can re-unlock using EZ Unlock v.1.2 from the following thread and you're undeniably unlocked. You'll hear a brief audio message if it worked.
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32456-app-920-ez-unlock-14-easiest-way-to-unlock-your-bootloader/
Also, please perform a nandroid back in CWM so you have something stable to return to if something goes awry in the future. That backup would have cut all this down to one simple step. You don't need to be unlocked to perform a nandroid however you do need to be rooted with a custom recovery.
Lastly, perform an IMEI backup using the "Comprehensive IMEI Backup" thread in the dev section. Do this and save the resulting Synergy zip from backup methods A and B in more than one place not on your phone. This is more so a precaution because flashing things in recovery can and may result in a complete loss of connection with Verizon.

A small rooting dilema

Hello everyone, I'm completely new to androids and I recently rooted my phone with CF's Auto Root.
I've been scouring the forum for information on how to resolve my problem but none that really help me with my specific problem

So with my original method I've rerooted my phone. How do I install clockwork mod on a rooted phone if it wasn't installed in the rooting process?
Take a look at the "goo manager " app and TWRP instead of CWM.
But CWM also has an easy install app if your phone is supported. Just see if it is or not and go from there either way.

Thanks for answering Pennycake.
I'm on Rogers Carrier OEM firmware right now and I'd like to flash the international firmware as to rid bloatware to my Note 2.
Which app would you recommend me to backup my rom with?
I've successfully rerooted, I found the problem with my phone. After it had been unrooted it needed to be rebooted in order for some effects to take change. So through the original method of CF-Auto Root, I rerooted my phone. I've installed the standalone ClockWorkMod app but it doesn't seem to make back ups properly. Through the app I hit back up and it shows the time stamp I hit 'ok' and my phone shuts off and starts up in recovery mode only not in ClockWorkMod but Android system recovery <e3> or something along those lines with only options to: reboot, install updates from adb, wipe data, etc.
What am I doing wrong?
Try installing the recovert img using clockworkmod before backups, because its not an app error, it is a user error. Using chainfires root method means no cwm. Using odin or lemme guess, you have a gs3, unified tool kit you get cwm.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
What recovery do you have right now? If it's twrp (team win) do that go with clockwork mod. Twrp (goo manager) is by far (in my opinion) the best and user friendly. But it's your call. And you don't have to un root and re root to do it. You just have to flash the new recovery via bootloader and it will work. For rom choices I personally like jedi xpx and jellybam. With jedi xpx you can overclock the sh*t out of your note 2 to 1920 and it's still stable.
I've used many recoveries and twrp is my choice hands down. And yiu make back ups easier. So dont unroot again and re root. Just download the latest twrp and flash through bootloader. but to each their own

I'm on the Galaxy Note 2 i317m in Canada. Clockworkmod isn't letting me back up, everytime I get the box with the timestamp to create a back up I hit 'ok', my phone reboots into recovery mode and its the stock recovery, so no option to restore. Also when my phone's model isn't listed in the clockworkmod flashing menu within the app. Is my phone not supported? The N7100 is the one listed when it asks you do confirm a phone model.

Accepted mf1 update without unrooting!!!

I recently accepted the MF1 OTA update without unrooting. I'm a noob so really didn't think about it until it was too late. The update installed via TWRP and I lost root, custom recovery and bootloader is locked yet again. Just wondering if I could flash back to MB1 using Odin in download mode or are there any precautionary steps I need to take before trying to flash back? Or will it even work?

You can always try to odin back. Hopefully whatever mf1 is didn't break the root process and it causes a brick.

Maybe i was thinking use EZrecovery to restore stock recovery. and use OTA rootkeeper from VooDoo. then just use EZrecovery to flash CWM again. the only thing i am worried about is the bootloader locking again.
I received the update early this morning. I had MD3 stock rooted but flashed back to MB1. Kept checking for software updates again for a couple of days and it kept saying none available until this morning. So I accepted it without thinking. . Here is a screenshot of the update. ..

It should print off an error log in /cache (I think) which tells you why it failed. I believe that it auto fails if you have a modified SystemUI, have Google Wallet installed, removed system apps, things of that nature.

No problem! If you do want to take the OTA, you can Odin flash VRBMB1 and have it update from there. Alternatively, Scrosler posted the rooted VRBMF1 rom in the dev section.
