Home WiFi Issue - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

My phone keeps dropping wifi and then reconnecting on my home WiFi network... I have heard there has been issues and that the network has to be configured the proper way... Does anyone know the exact settings that it should be configured? Thanks for the help!!!

I don't know of a specific configuration which solves all issues and Verizon told me that Samsung was planning a "second" update in October timeframe the addressed WiFi connection issues when I called in July about this.
That said, my WiFi connections have been far more solid since then for no apparent reason, so perhaps there was temporary interference at the time - I did adjust my router to use the (2.4GHz b/g/n) frequency up to 130Mbps for the channel (6) used by my Galaxy S III, instead of the (5GHz a/n) frequency that is configured for up to 300Mbps, but am not sure if that made a difference.

Thanks! Its weird because my wifi at work connects just fine but at home it goes in and out every 30 seconds to a minute...It must be the router configuration...im gonna try and mess with the settings when i get home

It's a problem with your home router or main modem. Verify that the ip on your router and modem match, if not sync them. That's the most common problem. Also, reset your main modem, have your provider ping and update it. This happens to me time to time, mainly with netgear products.
As mentioned above, use the 2x not the 5x band if you have a dual band router.
Also, some cable Internet connections can get fuzzy if they are using old co-ax wires in your house.

You know I was having the same issue. After owning the s3 for 5 days now, after the 3rd day I started to experience wifi issues. I would be connected to my wifi but no Internet connection af all. So I messed with the channels on my Netgear dual band router. I switched channels from 1 back to 6. Still nothing. Finally I reset my main modem(att) and also reset my router back to factory settings and still nothing. My wifi has been working fine with no hicups until I got the s3 and my wife has the rezound with no problems what so ever. Until yesterday, what I did notice was my whole Internet connection went down. Now I don't know if it's att or me. Well, it's back up right now but what I did do was call Verizon and they had me take out the sim card and reboot the phone while they did some things on there end. After they came back from hold I rebooted my phone and since then I have had not 1 wifi drop at all. They told me if I have anymore problems, that I go to the nearest Verizon store and get a new sim card. But I really don't know how that would help out at all since the wifi is built into the phone. Those techs are funny. But ever since that rebooted and removing the sim and also having Verizon do some things on there end. It's been perfect and no drops at all.
Ohh and also I did do the *#0011# wifi sleep mode trick to off. Didn't work for me also. But what was weird when I did that trick my phones screen wouldn't go to sleep. It would stay on until I hit the power button to make it go to sleep.

Still having very bad wifi issues.

Okay I posted a while back about this. For the past 2 weeks my wifi will connect and about 5 mins later won't load anything, but says I'm still connected. I've unplugged my router ( At&T router) and plugged it back in, no difference. I had att replace the router today and still having the same problem. I have it on wpa. I need to fix this, I run everything through my phone and this is really affecting my day to day. Any advice?
Infuse running infused v2.0.2.
If you're still using the stock ROM like I am, I'm finding the WiFi reception on my Infuse to be the worst I've ever experienced on any phone I've ever had. Lets hope the Gingerbread update fixes it.

Download wifi analyzer from the market and look see if there are several wifi networks on the same channel as your wifi. If so, change the channel on your router and see if that helps.
Also, what's the model on your router?
Even I've faced this issue ever since I got the phone but still there's no fix.
The problem is with a particular make of the router. I read online about it and there are more than 2 problems here.
1. If the router is a multiprotocol - bgn router, it might be a problem if the router is running in mixed mode. Our phone supports only b and g. In any case, if u enter the MAC address of ur phone into ur router, it might solve the problem.
2. If the router is not broadcasting the SSID i.e in hidden SSID mode, there might be wifi issues. Change the settings to remove the hidden SSID.
3. There is a PSP mode (Power save polling) mode in the hardware which will put the wifi to sleep if the phone goes to sleep (It is different than the wifi sleep policy) If the phone goes to this mode, some routers wont be able to send packets to the phone and this causes wifi to get disconnected.
If you try to connect to a public wifi, u should be able to connect. I guess the problem is only in ur home. I have the same problem but sadly i cant change any router settings since I stay in a university dorm...
Hope this helps!

Wanted to say I have a Verizon Actionteck router with FIOS and I am having the same issue with my Samsung Infuse 4G, only I am not using WPA I am using WPA2. I have to restart my device and then the device will work. Currently with WPA2 and I hide the SID and have the setting "Connect even when not broadcasting" enabled.
Thoughts ? I still have the 2.2 OS yes rooted.

[Q] have to cycle wifi to reconnect

My wife and I both have S3's with Verizon.
Neither of use are rooted/unlocked/flashed. For some reason her phone has a lot of problems reconnecting to our home WiFi. After waking up, it'll see the SSID's of all the networks around us, but it won't attempt to do anything with them.
Only way to get it to reconnect is to cycle wifi or cycle airplane mode.
The wifi settings have been set to "Keep WiFi on during sleep" Only while plugged in on both phones.
I've got the routers set to empty channels (there are 2 routers, one is acting as a range extender, same SSID, different channel), and everything else has no problems.
My phone sometimes does this, say maybe once or twice a week, but hers does it constantly. More like a few times a day for hers.
What can I do?
Did you try and "forget" your network info and reinput the key to connect? Maybe try and remove the network saved info then readd it with a static ip and such since its most likely a dhcp issue on your network?

my wife and I also have GS3's and have the wifi set to turn off when the phone is sleeping. My phone when it wakes up sometimes will not connect to wifi. My phone sees the networks available but wont connect to them. I toggle the wifi off and then back on and then it works fine. It will do this sometimes a few times a day, sometimes it will be fine for a few days. It happens at work and home.
Are you on the latest OTA? I had this problem and it all of a sudden went away after I took an OTA update.

Yes I had wifi problems also...setting a static ip worked for me just set it to a higher number. For example I set mine to 192.168.1.199

Yes, I am on the latest OTA update.
Latest ota updates here also. I just set her phone to static now so ill post up in a few days with how it goes. I also disabled the extender a few days ago but it did not change anything.
I dont know if i explained the problem properly though.
The system doesnt attempt to do anything at all when this happens. It says there is nothing in range. As soon as you cycle the wifi it magically finds the network and connects without problems.
I had the same problem or something similar to yours. Whenever my S3 goes to sleep, meaning whenever I turn my screen off. If the phone sleeps more than 2 mins and I go to use my wifi. The phone shows I am connected to my wifi network but it takes 20-30secs for my phone to respond to my wifi and it will all of sudden my wifi is back on. I tried everything from rebooting my router. I haven't tried the static ip change but my wife's Rezound doesn't have that problem at all. It got so annoying that now I just leave it on 4G all the time at home. I do have the latest update from Verizon. Hopefully someone can figure it out.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3
The static IP arrangement worked for the wife's phone, and also turning the wifi to never sleep works for me too.
I really don't notice a difference in battery life between having wifi sleep with screen off and staying on all the time, so thats how I left it. Also stops the couple second lag between unlock and reconnecting.
I used to have this problem on my home wireless network. Never could figure it out, so I bought a new router (needed an upgrade anyway) and the problem went away. No idea why the phone had trouble staying connected with my older router (it was a Netgear model). Everything else connected with it fine, but my Galaxy always had problems.

Ya some routers can be a pain. I got a cheap $40 N router that cause more issues then not

So, I tried to leave wifi on at all times per the suggestion in post #9. I did notice shorter battery life (not a huge difference). My wifi connect problems reduced, but did not go away. This happens everywhere: home, work, etc. Some times I will be fine for days, and some times it will act up twice in an hour. Don't know what router is used at work, but I know mine at home is a Belkin N router less than a year old. Never had problems with our old phones, and none of my friends at work or home have this problem.
Really wish there was a solution for this.

Brand New Nexus 5 Doesn't Connect To Home Wi-Fi [URGENT]

I bought a nexus 5 to replace my galaxy s4 which died a couple of days ago.
My home router is a Netgear D6300 and everything (pc, tv and phones such as iphone, samsung and nokia can connect just fine).
My nexus 5 was delivered today and i spent the last 5 hours to get it working with my wifi but NOTHING worked (and, i'm not joking, i got to the point of almost throwing it out of the window).
I tried enabling SSID broadcasting, changing "security options", changing channels, disabling 5ghz network, i also enabled the guest network with no protection but nothing worked.
The only thing i noticed was the when using particular channels (5-6-7) the phone would say "connecting" for a few seconds but then it would go back to "saved, protected with wpa/wpa2".
I also changed some wifi settings on my phone (i disabled wifi optimization and i forced the phone to use the 2.4 ghz network only)
Sometimes it stays on "saved....." and doesn't even seem to try to connect.
After a while i tried creating an hotspot with an iphone 5s and my nexus connected in a second and everything was working.
So the problem should be in my router settings but i already tried everything (and besides everything else but the nexus works just fine).
I'm really desperate because i use this phone for work and i need to get this working asap.
I also managed to update to android 4.4.4 using my mobile network but i can't update to lolipop because it would use all my remaining 3g network data.
Btw i did some heavy modding on my galaxy s4 so i'm not a newbie to android.
I'm also willing to pay for support but to be honest i'm really disappointed that such and "acclaimed" phone has problems connecting to a wifi network that works with basically everything.
Sorry if I missed it in the post, but did you reboot the router.

Yes but it didn't help.
I've had 4 N5's in my possession over the past year or so, and not a single one had any issues connecting to any WiFi network, including Netgear routers. Your problem is either specific to your particular device or your router and not with the N5 in general. I assure you, the N5 deserves all the praise (and criticisms) that it has received.ave you tried a different router? I know you used it with your iPhone's hotspot but I mean an actual router? Also, have you tried resetting your router to defaults?
Are you using MAC filtering on the router?

I just tried a dlink router on my home network and everything works!!!!!
But i want to understand why my D6300 doesn't work with the nexus (its configured the same way as the dlink).
Any suggestions???

If your router is handing out DHCP addresses it may have run out of addresses if you have many wireless devices connecting infrequently. But I would thing a reboot would have cleared that up.

WiFi 5 Ghz issues

I've noticed whenever I connect to a 5Ghz network, it's complete garbage. At my house, when I connect to 2.4 Ghz I get a consistent speed of around 75mbps, when I switch to 5 Ghz, I can't get more than 20 consistent. Sometimes it works super quick for a second, and then anything I try to do, web surfing, videos, downloading apps etc.... just suddenly stop as if I have no connection and never start again.
No issues here with 5ghz - can only suggest resetting router and phone, otherwise perhaps you have a faulty handset.
Also no problems here. I find the range off the antennas great.
Did several speedtests and no drop outs.
Just got mine and AC 5ghz works great. Getting 235/23 mbs on my home internet.
I have the same issue. Inconsistent connection and slow speeds on 5ghz, only way to fix is a router restart, but then if i turn off WiFi and re-enable, the problem returns. Possible IP issue?
When I received the phone 2.4ghz was fine (110/110) but 5ghz was not (550/3).
I had to go to setting > WiFi > Advanced (in the "..." menu near the gear on the upper right corner) and uncheck Wi-Fi optimization.
Then I got 550/250mbps
Not sure if it's relevant to your problem, but you could try that.
Good point. Seem to remember something similar on the 10 too. Thanks!
You're welcome Hope it will solve your issue.
Unfortunately, that didn't work. Got a replacement handset yesterday, just to be sure that it wasn't the phone, same problem happens?!
I use a Linksys router, if the op is still on the thread, what about you? Have no issues on other 5ghz networks. Well, the other 2 that I've connected to.

Thanks, i'll give that a try. I've never had this issue with any other phone, it's very odd and actually frustrating. While I can fix it at home, I wont be able to modify router settings when out and about, so if I struggle to get WiFi on the move, i'll be paying a fortune for data, which may force me to return the phone.
Just tested mine with Virgin Media router and WiFi optimisation turned on. Maxed out at 220Mbps

I'm noticing issues on a Linksys router as well. My wife's old M8 had an issue that would go away when Bluetooth was turned off.
I messed with settings tonight and it seems more stable. I just made 2.4 and 5 on SSID, and changed all band settings to Auto.

If its happening on other connected devices on your wireless network either 2.4 or 5Ghz try changing Router channels.
I've seen this happen on 2.4Ghz. Turns out since I lived in a pretty Wifi congested area the channel my router kept picking as "The best" was actually 6 and all the routers default to that channel. Literally that frequency was so bugged down my internet went from hitting 60-80Mbps down to Kbps. Wifi Analyzer showed all 12 channels were pretty full. I switched to 5Ghz only and immediately saw a difference, but the few channels I do have on my router are getting congested nowadays too.
Nowadays whenever my phones Wifi speeds hit the floor I do speedtest on other wifi devices and Ethernet speeds. If theres a significant difference I quickly use Wifi Analyzer to see if its time to switch channels.
when i got my htc u11 unlocked i had problems with the wifi not connecting at all or if it did it would disconnect. i found that there was a software update so i downloaded it on my mobile data. once installed everything started working correctly. mine will connect at 866mhz to my dlink-879 ACN router
The ivp6 thing or whatever is what I did when I got the m9, it wouldn't connect to my wifi at first and it was 5ghz

I forgot about that option. Had issues with my 10 when it came out a d that fixed it, so far it's working on my 11.
Still having issues with this. Tried above suggestions, not specified a channel, currently set to auto. My M9 and 10 have no issues holding a fast connection. Getting a bored of it now, as trying to stream Le Mans and it constantly cuts signal.

Sticky or Slow WiFi issue...?

Hi Guys,
My return to HTC from the Rezound days to the U11 have been less than smooth, it seems. First I have the strange SD card corrupt issue... And now I've got this "sticky" WiFi issue...
Let me try to explain:
So, I'm on Stock phone, straight set up as I got it from Amazon. My Internet bandwidth speed tests around 250mbps on an average. And the speeds remain the same when I experience the issue. Essentially what happens is that randomly my internet starts to "stick" meaning, I'd click on a link, it'll take forever and a half and then the page loads out of nowhere. Similarly, I'd be syncing files to Google Drive and my file upload or download starts crawling ?...
The fix: Toggle WiFi on and off and starts flying again! I haven't noticed the issue while on data (I think)...
I have optimizations off for WiFi. WiFi stays fast on other devices... So I'm not sure what's going on? Anyone else experiencing this?
Thanks!
Haven't experienced it for now on 11.
WiFi was something "messy" on my 10, but all good so far on 11.
Might be some router compatibility issues, from top of my head and without first morning coffee see if it happens on both 2.4 and 5 ghz frequencies and if you can disable ipv6 on your router..

hi. i have the exact same problem as you but only on the 5ghz band. no option to select just 2.4 GHz band is a letdown. i use a virgin media hub 3.0 CH7465, ipv6 in stateless mode. had to disable 5ghz band from router to use the phone on wifi. no issues with mobile data. another issue, unrelated, is the vibration feedback on key press every now and again.

Thanks for reporting and sharing, friend... I'm wondering why more people aren't seeing this or we just got a bad unit? Hopefully HTC finds out and does something about it... ?
Hello !
I am Naphtaline, owning a Sony Xperia XZ Premium and we are experiencing some of your issues there too.
It looks-like the problem could be related to Snapdragon 835 or Android Nougat but we can't be sure yet.
While our problem are not always exactly the same as you, we can say that it could be possible that there are Wifi issues on every snapdragon 835 based device yet on the market.
So, I made a survey to help us understanding this problem. We could then send the results to our brands to help them resolve it.
Please share this link to every people you know owning a flagship device, even if they don't experience the issue. This is very important !
If there are moderators here, if you could make a pinned topic about this survey, this would be marvelous !
https://goo.gl/forms/xePus2lCrjrBjk9b2
Thank you !
this issue is hard to replicate, I tried doing 20 or so speed tests yesterday trying to get it to fail but wouldn't...I know in the past when the issue was present, I switched to 2.4 with no change...I don't have this issue on most routers, only my home router (TP-Link Archer C7) but there again, the issue is so intermittent that it's possible it could happen on other routers but just not noticing.
Pretty sure I've been having this issue since day 1, but I'm trying to tell myself it's just my router, which it's not, as it happens on any wifi network. Also, phone suddenly decided to drop my Verizon signal, and now it won't reconnect. HTC has no fixes for either issue, and Verizon says it's HTC's fault for the signal. Definitely my last HTC phone.
With 5Ghz, if i go to a room little far from where the router is, it would not work but the Speedtest would show amazing speed. Whereas the 2.4Ghz works fine in that room.
FWIW guys the dropped connection effect is happening on my 2.4 SSID as well... Only, momentary fix is toggling off and on.... Have any of you tried a replacement? Maybe we got flawed units?
I am also experiencing this issue and it's driving me nuts! The quick fix is to toggle WiFi on/off, but I shouldn't have to do that.
I have the Xfinity XB3 router, but I do not think it's the router because I also have an S7 Edge where I am not experiencing this issue. I'm going to try using the 2.4 SSID, but from what I've read in this thread so far, it does not sound like that's going to help.
I too am experiencing this issue on the 5Ghz channel of my router. It seems to work initially, but only after a few minutes, it starts to have connection issues. When I switch to the 2.4 Ghz channel, it works just fine, always, no connection issues whatsoever. I just did the survey. Thanks for compiling this, I hope a fix is determined. I have the US Unlocked version, Viper U11 1.3.0 w/ Magisk v12 and module v1.10.1.
The problem is wifi drop-off. Even though the device is showing a good signal the data throughput is weak. If you move closer to the router the wifi will jump back into life. Its due to not having an iso standard for signal strength displays.

You sure about that? I can be 10' from the router and have the issue

Same here..
For me it happens only with my home router networks (Linksys WRT1900ACS).
I found that this drop issue only happens when I'm far from my router when the signal is below -65dBm and only if the 5GHz network is on 80MHz-bandwidth and 2.4GHz is on 40MHz-bandwidth.
Lowering to 40MHz for 5GHz and 20MHz for 2.4GHz solves this problem completely for me.
Two important notes:
1) This behavior only happens with the U11. With other devices like the G6, iPhone 6s and etc. everything works fine at the same time when my wifi networks are on 5GHz 80MHz and 2.4GHz 40MHz.
2) On other 2.4GHz 40MHz-bandwidth networks that I've connected (other than my home's) I don't experience this drops at all with the U11, even when I'm very far away from the router and the signal is very weak.
So this problem seems to be only between the U11 and some routers on some configurations. Very strange
