Hello,
I am newb owner of the O3D as of a month ago. I got my O3D because I wanted the 3D. I'd love the hear what software the rest of you guys recommend that specifically makes use of the O3D's native paralax barrier display, and/or the twin back cameras. Features that make the 3D Optimus (and EVO 3D) stand out from the rest of the Android crowd).
Personally I have and can highly recommend the following 3D software...
3DSteroid link can take 3D photos with cha-cha mode. Powerful editing functions to tune 3D alignment. * [note, it saves 3D images in JPS format].
Tobidale3D link displays 3D pics both JPS and MPO stored on you phone or from browsed from 3D web galeries. Simple 3D cropping function is useful.
PHEREO link browse 3D photos from their excellent web gallery. Directly upload your own 3D pics from your phone for sharing!
Lapse It link Shoot 3D time lapse! *added 17/10/2012
ModelAN3D link 3D computer graphic modelling tool that supports live 3D display! *added 17/10/2012
HDR Camera link Shoot 3D HDR photos! *added 17/10/2012
Please keep it 3D specific apps.

3D rangefinder and focus apps for O3D?
http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=-RsyQhYMH2E fwd to about 2:53 into this video we see an interesting App that uses the 3D Optimus cameras to measure distances via triangulation! It seems only available for download from the Korean SmartWorld app. I have been unable to fathom how to open an account as I cant read the Korean.
I really want to try those 2 mysterious apps on my 3D Optimus. Anyone have experience with them here?

Cool! Anyone have apk ?
For now we can try AfterFocus is in GooglePlay.
I tried and installed Smart world Taiwan but I didn't find the app. And the Korean Smart world I couldn't install. Any ideas?

That "DSLR" app mentioned in the article that makes use of the 3D camera is very interesting! The subjects background is notably more blurry compared to the normal single shot. I imagine it is easier to use than cutting out the photo subject by finger for fake blurring? Again, I'd love to try that lDSLR" app!!! Something that would only work on our special 3D camera equipped smartphones. It seems to be the same thing as the "Smart Focus" app seen in the video I linked, shown only as an icon next to the "Smart Ruler". "Smart Ruler" is a free download in the Korean LG Smart World app store (still trying to bag that), but sadly absolutely no sign of "Smart Focus" nor that "DSLR" app for shallow depth of field photo action. I wonder it was just proof of concept that turned out to buggy to be made public, or were pulled from the store for the same reason.

So I tried hard to get the smart ruler app, but you need to register to the Korean Smart world. Either you have the Korean application (but I cannot get it) or you register on the web sites (which I can't, because you need a social insurance number or something like that). So is there anyone from Korea who can download it? Thanks.

I managed to install smart world Korea but then again I got stuck. You need a name and corresponding social security number. And that's nothing I have really tricky. And all this to find out about a free gadget

3D Steroid Pro - paid version - supports MPO. I use it all the time with the MPO files from my Fujifilm Real 3D W3, copied to my phone from my PC via ES File Explorer.
Buy the app. You can't get a sandwich for what it costs.

Yup, I bought it a couple of days ago but didn't know about the additional unlocked MPO support, so thanks for that!
I agree, I bought 3D Steroid Pro too and I confirm @linuxluver's words.
Anyway finally released Lapse It with support 3D camera.

Needs small fixes eg ratio, parallax focus.
Time lapse in 3D? Now that's a neat trick I did not know we could do till now.
Is there anything out there that allows 3D HDR?

Thanks for posting your 3D time lapse samples! Was hoping this app could deliver me some super sharp 1080p cropped wide screen time lapse action. I have a small 5000mah external power pack and tripod mount that will help. I'd want to ideally lock down a combination of, focus, exposure, contrast, white balance etc... 3D adds complications regarding automated horizontal alignment adjustments probably baked into the camera too.
Playing with 3D Steroid, I am very happy that the resolution of its 3D images beat the built in LG camera app (for snapping static scenes). Also allowing for the wider field of view (side effect of less cropping of the sensor) and lets you use a wider separation between lest and right stereo pairs. The final 3D image for subjects further away exhibit way way more pop vs the fixed 24mm between the lenses.
BTW where do I find the option to save 3D Steroid pics as MPO?
Sent from my LG-SU870 using xda app-developers app
Unfortunately 3D Steroid can't save as MPO.
But You can use "send" option to Tobidale3D which can do save MPO files.

OK, so 3D Steroid can read but not save in MPO... understood. I have used Tobidale3D to crop 3D Steroid pics to 16x10 ratio MPO's before.
Any 3D Steroid success with "Camera 3" to take full rez photos? I wanted to compare the out-of-the-factory alignment between the left right cameras. But when I select Cam3, a single shutter click gives a cropped portrait image, seemingly taken by both L&R cams at the same time. I tried killing 3D steroid and re-starting it but it's just the same afterwards.
Any one able to get a full rez image out of Cam3 & if so how'd you do that?

Would you also be able to upload some 2D pictures at 5mp.
really thank u man - and please some 2D pictures
Hmmm, the stereo seperation seems as bad as I had heard it was - much less than the 3DS. I wonder if forcing the seperation in software can help enough to give decent depth to the photos as viewing them on my 3DS its really subtle and seems to strain my eyes more than usual. Lets hope partly its due to viewing them so low resolution compared to their native.
Why did they put the cameras so close together?

Rename the files to .jpg instead of .jps and view them in any image viewer you have installed.
It is simply 2 jpeg images side by side, taking a separate 2D image should be exactly the same as the left image in the jps stereo pair.

Just looked at the sample images on a 50 inch plasma with 3d glasses. Separation is good.
Some of the images have issues since they were taken with a tilted angle which affects the depth effect, maybe this is the reason for some complaining about the separation.
Stereo photo maker has an auto aligment feature that corrects height difference between the left/image: http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/stphmkr/
The problem is shown on the tree animation at:
http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/stphmkr/help/multiple.htm
Cameras are close since the battery takes up half the phone size, it is a PCB design thing, maybe not enough space to have the battery in the middle. HTC Evo 3D has the same layout.
LG Optimus 3D
The image are awesome liked it.

can we convert 2d video to 3d ??
i got software that does just that. but when i play the file on lg 3d.
it is only showing 2 identical video side by side.
help
the O3D does 2D to 3D video itself
It may give it a 3D effect but it doesn't look very good, certainly not like recording something in 3D properly.
DVDfab is pretty good does a good job of converting it.
can dvdfab convert videos also not dvd
Hey guys hopw you dont mind me jumping in on rhis thread but when i use dvd fab can u explain which is the best format to convert to for quality??

i selected lgp20 in 3d device. had problem converting mkv. soft would crash.
LG told me that the Optimus 3D supports the other 3D format, MPO, however, I've got hold of loads of MPO files as well as converting my own JPS files
None of them display properly on the Optimus 3D
If you view in the galley it does the fake 2D to 3D conversion, so still looks flat. Touch the screen and choose MPO viewer and you see 2x2D images and it flicks between them when you move the phone.
These same MPO files work fine on my 3D TV and my PC
I'm on latest 10d software.
here's an example:
JPS version: www.maffmace.co.uk/1.jps
MPO version: www.maffmace.co.uk/1.mpo
Have you tried adjusting the 3D depth?
I get a 3D image with the MPO, not the best 3D ever but works

no, all I get is:
when 1st loaded (in 2D):
Slideshow
MPO Viewer (just shows images seperately and flicks between them when you move the phone)
3D
Share
Delete
Details
Set as
Crop
When in "3D" mode (not actual 3D, just the phone doing it useless 2D to 3D conversion of a 2D image):
Slideshow
MPO Viewer (just shows images seperately and flicks between them when you move the phone)
back to 2D
Share
Delete

I get exactly as the same as you get, looking for a solution. May somebody report that to LG and give us the result.
I've told LG UK who have passed it on to their R&D department

In case any one else wants to be able to edit their 3D pics, for example to airbrush out errors or tweak colour balance or add text etcetera here is how to easily do it using only free software.
Step one (long winded way): get the pic from the phone to a pc.....connect to a wireless network, use the phones gallery and hold your finger down over the picture until the menu comes up offering you to share the picture. Choose to email it to yourself then check your email for the sent picture (if asked how to share 3D data choose to share 3D data).
Or step one (easy way): connect your phone to a Windows or Linux computer and turn on USB storage mode when the phone offers you the option. Just use the computer to browse to the picture or pictures you wish to edit (they will have .jps at the end of their name) and copy them to somewhere on your computer.
Step two: edit the pics....download and install the free photo editing software called "The GIMP" (most Linux systems will have this installed already, Windows users can download it from here. When installed just run it and choose FILE OPEN from the file menu of the program. It won't show the jps file you want so change the filetype to show in the file picker so it reads "show all files" and then you will see the jps files.
Edit the picture or pictures and when you save choose to save them as a jpeg file. It will save each pic in side by side 3D format which will work on Optimus 3D, Evo 3D and which you can also upload as is to sites like Picasaweb or Flickr if you wish to share your 3D content.
Hope this helps

Picasa and Flickr doesn't support stereo.
For 3d photos sharing I recomend to use free app Phereo 3d. This app uses Phereo.com service. Service allows you to upload stero photos, group them in albums and, more importantly, allows you to view it in all possible modes, including anaglyph, and 3d vision right on the site. Users can leave comments and rate photos by clicking “like” button. Phereo 3D allows to browse through thousands of 3D images and share your own stereo photos on Phereo.com. Application shows stereo on HTC EVO 3D and LG Optimus 3D: fully supports their stereoscopic displays and built-in stereo cameras.
You can still share your 3D content with any site using this method as the pics are in standard side by side format so 3D devices can view your content from such sites by viewing the saved pic in tbe devices viewing app (I do this with some picasaweb pics).
Phereo is good, I use it myself, but most sites do not support 3D images and this guide shows how to easily share your pics even on non compatible sites. You are right those sites do not support 3D viewing natively but the pics can be easily shared on them or with friends who have say another 3D device

i think you need to add a tag called is_3d to the meta use this http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/index.html then convert to H264 with another app

Open your video in player, hit menu button then 3D formater, here you can choose what kind of 3D video your file is. After that you will see a 3D logo near your video.

I think u can't force 3d logo on non-3d-video, just my opinion
i tested it now and it works, but if your video is not 3D, it will not be played correctly.
I don't understand why you want a 3D logo on a 2D video.
If you want a good 3d effect you have to use native 3d videos, converted one don't have real 3d effect.
