I have been reading about guys excepting the update and just rerooting after, so I tried it. Now when I 'rerooted with root 66 it brought me back to vralf 2. I checked for the update again and I get a msg saying com.samsung.syncmlservice has stopped? Now I know the number one rule is don't except updates, so don't preach just looking for help.. Also if I restore and except update then root will It keep the vlraf7 after rooting. Sorry for the mouthful in advance.

When you installed root66, what you essentially did was install a rooted version of VRLF2 over VRLG7. Probably the safest thing to do would be Odin back to complete stock, accept the update, then use a root method that takes advantage of an exploit rather than one that installs a rooted version of a ROM. There are other ways to accomplish what you want, but I think that would be the safest.

More info please. What did you do?
What makes you believe that the update is for GB v2.3? Is this an OTA update from Verizon?
Sorry my question wasn't worded good. So here it goes LOL, I downloaded one of the leaks of Gb for the TB and I placed the file on my SD card and renamed it and shut the phone off held power and volume. Then I went through the steps and it started updating itself the when it finished it said error failure to update software to new. Once again thank you for responding to this I really appreciate all and any help.

Rooted or unrooted currently? I assume unrooted?

If you downloaded the RUU_Mecha_GINGERBREAD_S_VERIZON_WWE_2.10.605.1_Radio_0.01.78.0802w_3_NV_8K_1.41_9K_1.64_release_209273_signed.exe
Do not place on the SD card, is a Windows application to update your TB via Data cable.
Takes about 10-15 mins.
This is exactly as I did and worked without any problems.
On a further note...
A couple of days ago I rooted using the Revolutionary tool and flashed Clockwork recovery using ROM Manager then created a backup. Now I no longer have problems with constant ads, no verizon bloatware, and a full backup img of my rooted Gingerbread TB.
Unrooted can't don't know much about rooting with the method used. Actually I'm kinda scared, now I did root my Eris and my Incredible and LG Ally. But don't glum have to know adb.

There should be an unrooted zip file that you could flash via hboot floating around here some where or might look on Rootzwiki site as well.
I would also check the md5 of the files to make sure they match the numbers posted by the OP before I attempted to flash it

You guys were awesome thanks again. Nice to know when someone gets stuck there are people willing to help. And think I'm going to attempt rooting my TB. I know if I get stuck ill be ok.

Can someone please give me a stwp by step on rooting with updated 4.1.2 I can't seem to figure it out. I went to the rooting thread that was updated in march but it is there are so many options it is really hard to figure out what to do. I want to root unlock and put recovery back. I had to flash back to stock cause synergy messed up my gps.

Look for a thread titled "[GUIDE] Root for Jelly Bean 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 OTA ***UPDATED 3/5***" This thread is in the dev section and it doesn't get any easier than that.

Flash all files in PDA when using Odin unless otherwise stated.

After spending a vast amount of my free time on the Verizon GS3 forums, I seem to always see people using Odin to root their phone. I never used Odin, and the method I used was much simpler, so I as to why Odin seems to be the most popular
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
That because the method you likely used was for ICS. Since JB, those old root exploits were patched and presently the only way to root involves using Odin to flash the prerelease bootloader. That's why you see Odin referred to as the go to for rooting.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Depends on if you were going to JB or not, and if you flashing stock builds or custom ones. In my opinion the method to do it is easy either way. For just wanting rooted stock and minimal installs Odin probably is best. But for custom builds I wouldnt use Odin.
I still don't know what Odin is honestly. Ha ha. I'm rooted and unlocked, to be clear.

I have the ATT skyrocket rooted and unlocked when I first got the phone in 2011, and is on 4.04. I remember that the post said that I must unroot if I want to upgrade the rom OTA from ATT. Is there any other way to upgrade to the latest stockrom without unroot? I cannot find the post I originally referenced to root/unlock.

^^ what he said. Just get the .tar file from sammobile.com and flash using Odin. You will lose root after this process.
If you want to update using kies (the update is not ota. You have to use kies. ) then s long as kies detects your phone and you have a stock recovery, you should be OK.
However, I believe that you will loose your apps and data with both the methids.. So just use Odin

Thank you very much. I should be able to re-root after the upgrade, correct? Or the lastest 4.1.2 cannot be rooted yet?
I have problem with Odin before, never got anything done with it. Let me try it this time.

Yes you can root the new jb using the same procedure as before.

If your rooted why not just flash a stock rom with the newest update. That will save you the trouble of dealing with Odin.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
Trouble? Odin is as simple as place file in pda and click start. I don't see any trouble there....

I meant it more of an hassle. Plug in Odin then uproot do the update then reroot. Just seems so much easier to flash a stock base rom.

Why would you unroot to do the update via Odin. I believe your logic is flawed here. Although I do agree an install would be expeditious via recovery, your argument is flawed.

Just FYI - I was on rooted stock, and just did the update with Kies without unrooting. Now i'm on JB unrooted as a result.
I have a question, I already rooted my phone and put a bunch of mods, tweaks, and root only apps and I am still on the stock firmware (I haven't flashed any Roms yet). So I wanted to ask if I will still get the OTA updates from Google, or will I have to flash them myself

My bad about the title, first time making a topic so I thought I am suppose to write it there and I now I don't know how to change
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I believe your phone will still download the update, but you will need to flash them from your recovery. That's how I understand it anyway.
Having root permissions itself will not stop you from successfully installing an OTA but any modification will. You can read more about the requirements to receive an OTA update here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2523217
Thanks. That helped a lot
