Hello !
I have read several articles in where people use different methods to charge theyr battery.Maybe it has been talken in XDA too but i havent found nothing that regards charging
How do u charge the battery ?U keep the level from 90 % to 50 % and once a month u fully discharge and than fully charge ?
Or u fully charge it after it shuts off cause of low battery?
Thanks
I'm a bit of a battery abuser, I tend to charge randomly when I think it will be under heavy load such as long drive in the car listening to music I will plug it in with my cigarette usb adapter thingy..
Most other times just plug it into my laptop. My habit for discharging and turning it on until it dont turn back on is maybe every couple weeks to a month if I remember to. Bout that time is when I start cycling out old apps I don't use and just maintaining clean phone status.
...Wall charger every night, all night, while still on, while I sleep. Been doing it this way for 2 years and still using the original battery.

I just charge it whenever it's anywhere between 40-50% and have access to an outlet.
I use USB to charge my phone I plug it in at night around 9 and it's good around 10am then I unhook it. It stays good till about 6 or 7 pm

Lithium Ion batteries don't have memory effect, so the only reason to run a complete drain and recharge is if the battery fuel gage needs calibration.
I leave mine on the AC or USB charger everynight. The Captivate's power management chip reduces the charging current when the battery approaches full. After becoming fully charged, it stops charging for an hour or two, waiting until the voltage has dropped about 0.1 V, then resumes the small trickle charge until full again.
You want to avoid getting the battery too hot, because that will reduce battery life (life= number of battery charge cycles). I have an alarm set in battery monitor widget (bmw) when the battery temp is 45 degrees C or higher. you can get bmw or other battery tools on Google Play.
you can read more about charging Li Ion batteries here:

It is my second time that i fully drain and fully charge my battery.
It is wrong what im doing ?
I don't think of it as right or wrong. You don't need to drain it all the way or charge it to 100% if it is not convenient.
I put my phone on the charger at night even if the battery is 60% or more full, with the phone on. I want it at 100% in the morning. During the day, it often gets charged while I am driving or when I am using my laptop. Is is seldom fully charged during the day, and it rarely gets drained all the way.

I have four batteries for my Captivate, because the original seemed sorta crappy, and I found supposed-OEM batteries pretty cheap on Amazon.
My micro-USB port seems to have taken a crap, and the phone will no longer charge via that method. So basically, I have an extra-battery wall charger going all the time, and I swap batteries whenever the battery in the phone dies.
I just connect the usb cable port from my Xbox to the phone when I'm at the man-cave table. At night to my computer's usb port since it still power's up when the computer's off which is convenient

I am running Continuum v5.6. I have gotten amazing battery life but I do not understand what I do to obtain this. Here is what I did.
So I was getting terrible battery life and decided to recalibrate my battery. After wiping the battery stats after making sure my phone was %100 charged I decided to run the battery till my phone shut itself off. I was getting terrible battery life even after the wipe and everything. In about 24 hours the phone drained itself out with moderate to light use.
I recharged the phone with another USB outlet forcing the phone to charge slowly in USB mode. I believe it charges at 400 mah instead of the usual 700 mah when using the samsung charger. I left it until it charged from 2% all the way to %100.
This was mid Saturday. It is now Monday morning and I am still running on the same charge.
I don't doubt I could have reached up to 48 hours on my Captivate! I've never even came close to 36.5 hours without needing to charge.
What do you guys think gave me such great battery life? I am speculating that when we recalibrate our batteries we should do a SLOW charge. Slow charging batteries have always been the best method in the past IMO.
Possibility. However there are MANY different factors that contribute to battery life.
I would like to see some other confirmed reports of USB charging leading to longer battery life over AC charging.
Interesting stuff though.
Slow charging is always better with batteries. But in over a year i have never used usb to charge. So cant say if it last longer or not. I am a heavy user so no time for a slow charge
seems interesting...ima try this out as soon as i find a charger that charges at a slower speed..
I agree
I am 100% confident slow charging lasts considerably longer.
I normally use the USB on my computer to charge, and I get two days of what I consider pretty heavy use out of it, maybe longer but I'm never away from power for more than 2 days. When I charge with AC it's pretty tough to even last a single day.
Other things help as well. I always have the screen at minimum brightness, I would turn it down further at night if I could. I don't run any home screen widgets that constantly update, no haptic feedback, ect.
I'll have to try this out!
Let me do all the noobs out there a favor and ask how do i slow charge? Where do i get the whatever i need, is it a cable or plug thing and is the stock samsung stuff fast charge i assume?

Probably want to pick up a second battery.
Gives you a free of mind.
I've been using my captivate with 2.3.3 UCKF1, I charge it with the pc or the original charger and the battery drain very fast .. I think I will have to go back to 2.2.

If so, check to make sure that your cable is connected properly. On some cables, the connectors are not fully touching.
What I was trying to say is. Usually the battery is able to charge fully overnight. But then it probably just sits there with the charger in until morning when I pull it out. I was wondering if the extra time its charging on full battery is bad.

Yes it is bad, because it will overcharge your battery. It takes a while, but if you overcharge your battery constantly then the battery life slowly starts decreasing until it dies.

The phone doesn't actually charge the battery to 100% unless you're using an SBC kernel. You can leave it on the charger as long as you want and it will never overcharge unless you have some kind of malfunction.

Hi all,
ever since i rooted my phone and flashed another ROM, i have been having this problem of very very long charging to 100%. I did attempt to calibrate the battery after flashing the ROM by the way.
First CM7, then Virtuous Inquisition, now Ordroid.
From 1% to 70% it would be quicker. Then from 71% and onward, it will take hours to move. I am using the original usb cable n adapter for charging, i can't seem to figure out what can be wrong.
Or did i calibrate the battery in a wrong way?
You charging via a power socket or a USB port in a device like a computer or something?
I think he was implying he's using the usb with wall charger
Mine takes almost 3 hours, more if i'm using it a lot while charging -- all stock with ICS
Hi, I'm on ordroid too and it takes me two to three hours to fully charge with my wall charger. I'm using a different battery, extended life Anker battery. My stock battery was so bad it took too long to charge and ran out so quickly! Are you using stock battery still or a another battery? If it's stock, you might want to consider a long lasting battery. I've found it charges faster and lasts longer. I hope this helps

try a different wall charger if the problem is the same then u need to consider a other battery
thanks for the advices..
it just came to my mind, that before I flashed any ROMs, when i was still using stock HTC Sense 3.0, it used to only take 2-3 hrs to full charge. Now it's 6.
Doubt that, mine charges to 100 in about an hour and a half (Running HyperNonSense).
If you're using a USB charger, make sure the phone knows the power source is (AC) and not USB. USB will charge a lot slower. Dial *#*#4636#*#* for testing info and look under battery information (There's probably another spot in settings but this is my favorite).
Also use the original power adpater that came with the device, or one that came with another similar device.
Mine takes 4-8 hours to charge in any ROM. Last night it was almost 9 hours from 3% to 100%
When it reaches 60 more or less it's like 100% if you reboot. I do reboot everytime to stop the wait. I don't know if that's bad but this phone charges very slow after some percentage is reached.

This is crap, what you´re doing!
If you charge the battery, the phone doesn´t know how much capacity it got. (Could be an old battery or a bigger/smaller non-stock battery) So the device will recorgnice how fast the battery adopt the power and estimate when it slows down on a specific value when to stop and show 100%.
If you will restart the device during the loading sequence, it makes a battery calibration and thinks your on 100%. But of course it is still on 60%.
Your just fooling yourself
My phone's battery goes down if it's charging and the data is on until the phone dies. I'm using miktouch and Hyperion's extended battery. It also doesn't seem to charge fast at all (12+ hours). Once it's "dead"it will power off, then randomly go back to 100% battery (orange light to green light).

With LiPo batteries there is the danger of explosion/fire. I have an Anker universal charger and note that the output when plugged in is 4.2V. However, USB ports output 5V, so I would think the Anker battery can tolerate that otherwise you would not be able to charge the phone by plugging into a USB port.

So, brand new anker and the battery still decharges when plugged in and goes full charge once the phone is off. I'm thinking there's something broken with the phone and not so much the batteries.

From a lot of the comments in this forum, I suspect the phone has a charging circuit controlled by software rather than hardware. Before you do anything hardware drastic, you might try flashing a different kernel.
Also, you report that the battery leaps to 'full' when you disconnect the charger. Have you tried measuring the battery voltage physically with a multimeter to see if the battery is charging at all. Should be 4.2V when fully charged. Something like 3.6V when empty. Obviously if you put the battery in for half an hour and the voltage goes up, it's charging no matter what the UI says!
I've not tried either of those. I don't completely understand what the kernel is. I'm using Miktouch rom, but I don't know how much that has to do with the kernel. I know the battery is being charged because if I leave it plugged in for a good 8 hours it holds its charge for the day. And if I leave it plugged in for say, half a day, and turn off data/wifi, it will slowly show increased charge, like a percentage per half hours of charging.
What do I need to know and do to flash a new kernel on here?

Your the only one of my users to ever have this issue, including me. And the doubleshot was my last device before going Nexus last February.
What I would do is:
1. Backup all your user downloaded apps with Titanium Backup.
2. *Do a full wipe from recovery*
*Wipe data/factory reset
*Format system
*Format Data
*Format cache
3. Flash MikTouch and reboot.
4. Once rebooted don't go cramming apps and settings back into your phone just yet. Make sure its going to charge and drain like its supposed to. If all is well, then start 1 by 1 with your apps, making sure each of them are not causing your issues. If all tests are passed then something in the ROM its self went stupid.
Sounds like hardware though.

Hi all
I will be getting my nexus 5 tomorrow and was just curious if there are ant does and donts with regards to charging the battery. The reason i ask is i currently have a HTC sensation and after 18 months the battery had to be replaced as it was simply not holding its charge. My routine was to charge it overnight every night and use it during the day.
Does charging it through the night cause damage? im just a little bit more concerned as i will not be able to replace the battery with it being sealed.
Thanks for any tips
Chris
Hi,
Take a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2511647...
I used to do the same thing with my HTC Incredible... I learned that it can damage the battery over time by not allowing it to hold a charge. Now, when I get home (depending on remaining %) I charge my phone, and unplug it during the night.
If for some reason the battery dramatically drains overnight, I'll charge it when I'm getting ready to leave in the AM.
That is just my method, but I have had great results with it for my usage.
