Hi all, my O3D is shuting down randomly each and every day for like 4-5 times. Dont know why, dont know hot, just when I press power button no picture on screen and after few seconds LG logo pops up. Its running on v21e stock rooted with megatrone. Also try to wipe dalwik, cache and battery stats after instaling ROM Manager and still the same, right now it shuts down for two times in 10 minutes. Could be problem that I root phone after did install few apps from market. What to do, read many posts and threads regarding this problem and no help for me.
Thanks.
it could be a posibility about some programmes
i had the same problem and i tried to load the same baseband again (kdz files) , then it stopped rebooting
No, just did reinstall v21e and still the same. Also did factory data reset few times and no help my O3D just keeps shuting down without any reason. Anyone has some suggestion its really stupid to use phone this way.
I had this problem on froyo. In advanced wifi settings make sure the wifi sleep policy is set to "when screen turns off"
If you have it on "never " the CPU gets overheated or something. I had been rebooting Every hour since changed it to "never " but when I turned it back the reboots stopped

It was already set to 'when screen turns off' and I did not change anything. Today only two shut downs since this morning.
Do a clean installation Kdz . Don't change anything and see if it reboots. If it does you must have some sort if corrupted kdz file

Tried cleaning the battery terminals/contacts, you might be getting a bit of oxidisation making the power drop out. This happened to me with some older phones so no reason it can't be the cause.
I tried everything, new kdz update, check the contacs on battery, but they were clean and I doubt this has anything to do with it but even that did not help. My problem was yellow spots on screen, send it to service and now I dont have no problem with yellow spots but my phone constantly keep shutting down and now it is really unusable at all.I have no idea what to do.

Who serviced the phone? If it was through LG or your service provider, I would see if they can replace or repair it. It sounds like it could be an issue with the motherboard. Devices exposed to long periods of high humidity experience the same issue that you described.
LG service my phone and yes they replace my board with new I send it to service because of yellow spots on screen and they replace my board, now I dont have no yellow spots but phone keeps shuting down. Then I will again send it to them. Thanks

That would be the best course of action. If you ever get a product back from repair and is still faulty, notify them immediately so that they will repair it. Sometimes if you wait to long they'll try to push the problem off on you for abusing the phone and refuse to repair it. Also, you may get lucky if you notify them that you received a faulty device after repair and handle it rationally. Most companies will compensate by replacing the device or sometimes even upgrading it for the inconvenience. I work in IT and if I don't repair something correctly the first time I'll make sure it gets taken care of and go the extra mile as long as they don't come in yelling about it. Just some "food for thought" for today.

I can't turn my screen off. When I press the power button it goes off for 0.5 to 3 seconds and comes back on. I was using Axura when it first happened, but then I restored an older CM rom and I'm having the same issue. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm sure I don't have to add that it isn't ideal for battery life ..

Are you plugged in when it is happening? If so, have you tried to turn off the "Always stay on" setting?
I had this happen to me. It turns out it was a faulty power button. Its a hardware issue. I had to return my phone because I was still in the 30 day window, if you're outside of that you need to send it in to samsung.

Thanks for the replies.
Strangely enough the issue disappeared as quickly as it appeared about 6 hours after it began! I tend to agree that it's a hardware problem, but as long as it's not happening constantly I'm going to live with it (due to the fact that as an Australian living in Spain with a NS from the US I don't imagine a warranty claim would be easy).
A hardware problem wouldn't be my first assumption if I was on a custom ROM and/or had lots of apps installed.
If it happens again, I'd get a logcat recorder app or adb logcat session running on the phone and see what exactly it says goes on just before the screen wakes each time.
Oh ok. I tend to assume it's a hardware problem due to the fact that it happened on completely different roms. But the way that bug causing "artifacts" are sometimes left behind when changing roms doesn't give me confidence in that assumption. I really don't understand it.
I'll definitely give the logcat a go if it comes back. Thanks.
hi,
i am bringing back this thread from a few months back because it was the only one i found that showed the same problem.
i installed alogcat and attached a log file here. can anyone see if there's anything in the log that would be a software reason as to why it's waking itself? also, it doesn't shut itself off while this is happening. the screen will stay on indefinitely. i've had the phone for 6 months and this has become a new problem i would say in the last 3 weeks. i don't want to have to send it to samsung for a few weeks.
thanks for any assistance
Hi - I just got my Sensation a few days ago and I love it. But I have now found an annoying bug (?). When I take a picture and it involves the flash going off, 8 times out of ten the phone will just go dead immediately - screen off, no response. Sometimes a battery pull required to get it to reboot. Anyone experienced this?
Seems to happen indoors when the subject is fairly close, darker conditions.
Not sure if this is a hardware or software problem - I really don't want to return it
Try turning off geotagging.
Thanks, I tried that, then turning off gps, then turning off location, same problem every time.
I find that turning off mobile data, and even leaving all of the above on, stops the problem. Or, leaving data on but turning off the flash. Data + flash = crash...!
Still not sure if this is software related? I guess so?

Hmm. Since it's correlated with the flash, and few if any others have complained about this I'd guess HW, but who knows. I'd probably do a factory reset, and if that didn't fix it get a replacement.
Has anyone found a solution to this problem? Same thing happens to my phone.
This was posted when the phone first came out. Probably in the early threads. That was one of the first things I checked when I got my Sensation. I don't know if there was a solution other than swapping - but do a search in the forum because it was covered. Hope there was a solution for you.
Same thing happens here, Revo HD.

At first I just waited and it would restart THEN...
Had to pull battery and it would restart THEN...
When it restarted only a speckled screen followed by home screen THEN...
Only speckled screen THEN...
Nothing but the vibration when trying to restart THEN...
A replacement is being shipped after a trip to the T-Mobile store.
Initially I called T-Mobile and they told me the UPDATE would solve my problem but as the day progressed it was all down hill.
During the course of the sales person ordering me a new phone they automatically added a protection plan without my knowledge.

Hey guys.. So I've had my inspire for about 2 or 3 months now, and this thing is driving me apeshhh. Here is why...
For a few weeks now, the phone would randomly restart in the middle of doing something, always random. Sometimes while writing a msg in the stock facebook app. Sometimes when browsing market, sometimes when browsing using the web browser. Today I wanted to download Astro to see if the music I put on the phone went to external or internal SD. As soon as the download finished, the phone restarted. After it booted back up I looked through apps, and it never installed. I went back to market and searched it, pulled it up, and it shows installing.... let it sit for 5 minutes... nothing. Restarted, same thing. Pulled the battery... same thing... I can't cancel it, or try again. It will now no longer install anything else.
I figured maybe it needs to download something that it just doesn't have the network speed to use, and trying turning on wifi. IT WONT EVEN TURN ON. Under the settings menu to turn it on, it says error. When i tap on it, the error msg just goes off then comes back right away.
Anybody else experience this? I really wish SOMEBODY would come out with a decent f**king phone on the AT&T network.... I guess I can now add HTC to the list of people that can't build a decent phone. Just below Samsung... (What a POS line of phones they have released).
Anyway, phone is stock, not rooted, nothing turned off, completely stock.
How does the warrenty work now? I bought the phone outright, cash, $500... for this....
Thanks for any help.
Could be your phone mate. I've had this phone maybe about three months and haven't experienced those issues. Just might be a lemon you have. Where did you purchase the phone?

I bought the phone at an authorized AT&T retailer store. The kind you find in common shopping strips.
Try to see if they will give you a replacement

Back up your stuff and factory reset. If that doesn't work then either Root it and try a different ROM or get a replacement phone.
You might want to look at the thread in here about random shutdowns. It looks like the batteries on these phones can be the culprit. My phone randomly shutdown, sometimes restarted. I thought it was a ROM I had loaded at first. The problem got progressively worse no matter what ROM I used. It would do it maybe once a day & then within less than 3 weeks I have to keep it plugged in all the time. It happened when I opened a power-intensive app like navigation or a game. The battery is covered under warranty.
This issue seems to be rather uncommon, but it does exist.
Nothing compared to what Captivate owners went through.
Lemons do happen, but as suggested, I'd try another battery first. If that doesn't solve the problem, there shouldn't be any issue with getting a warranty replacement.
And that warranty replacement will, with near certainty, be a good one. Again, unlike the Captivate.
I've had mine for about 3 months with none of these issues. HTC phones for me have been great. Even their customer service and support if their products. And I have had Samsung, motorolla, and LG none at the same level of build quality. If you continue having problems get in touch with the HTC support they will help if not let u know if you can get a replacement.

I am a former captivate owner. That phone was so bad that it destroyed it's own internal memory. Every app continously force close, every process, upon startup one day. Restored a backup, got nothing, reflashed, got nothing, mounted it and formated it then ran a memory checking utility on my computer with it, and it showed like 46% of the sectors being bad, after then 2nd test somewhere in the high 50s. I promtly punched in the screen and folded the phone in half, and tore it into 2 pieces... So i think that may be why I'm relatively patient with this phone.. (that was also my 3rd captivate replacement). (Debating using a picture of the phone as-is in a DIY to fixing captivates and post it in that forum... get all your frustration out and buy a new phone.. ha ha.)
I will call HTC and see talk to a rep, maybe they know more about the problem and will be able to determine whether the phone or the battery is at fault.
Also, factory reset did not fix the wifi problem. Instead of immediately going back to error under it's status, and spent about 10 seconds trying to connect, then came up with error. This leads me to believe it's hardware related.
I will most likely push for a replacement phone then. I do have a concern with that though... My phone has never gotten wet, and only has a small indication of falling out of my pocket while sitting in a stadium chair (maybe a 12 inch drop onto concrete). Will this void my warrenty? The scar left behind is hardly noticeable, but if they looked for it, it will be seen. Another thing is, when I pull my battery cover off, there are 2 screws along the side, one is covered by a sticker that reads VOID, black sticker with white text. Is that some kind of indicator of water damage? I'm more familiar with white stickers turning red or pink from water damage... and as said, this phones never been wet.
Thanks again for the help.
At&t is usually good about replacing defective phones and will be faster than dealing with htc. You obviously have experience with at&t warranty having owned a captivate.

Those stickers are intact right? As long as their intact and not "punched in," which would indicate a screwdriver has penetrated in order to get the phone open, you should be good, as far as that's concerned.
Uhh well bad luck for you... I dont think this is a common problem...
Im guessing the iphone is on top of your list xD

They only just appeared today, randomly when I took my phone out of my pocket. I've restarted the phone to no avail, and am panicking because I dont know where to begin..can anyone diagnose my problem?
Looks like dead pixels, but the image isn't really clear enough.
Take a screenshot with some app.
If you see that in the screenshot, then reflash your firmware & ROM or flash an RUU.
If you don't see it in the screenshot, then it's a hardware problem.
Thanks, I took a screenshot and it's not a part of it. The lines keep getting bigger and bigger!
Sounds like it needs to go for repair. Is it under warente? Best of luck to you!

I too have this issue. It was present from the moment I powered the unit on. I continued with the setup to see if I could adjust the screen or maybe an update might fix it. But sadly no dice. I'm calling Google tonight to see if they can send me another unit or repair this one.
Had the same problem earlier, when i dropped the phone accidentally.
Observation: It gets darker and grows when the phone heats up, and lighter (almost cyan blue) when the phone cools down for a significant period of time with the screen off.
i had to keep the phone near an air conditioner vent for a few hours with the phone turned off for it to disappear.
once the lines disappear completely they dont return back, unless if you drop them again (which is what i did a few days back again.. and the stupid lines are back )
If you have any other ways in which you can get it resolved pls share with us.
Cheers,
Alan
Hey Guys,
My N5 is 18 months old and suddenly the screen went dead. I could hear things beeping with apps etc and could receive calls but the display was shot. I tried everything to reflash the phone but to no avail. I tried connecting to a PC to sideload - anything at all but no dice. The laptop could see the phone but couldnt access it via explorer or ADB or anything else.
I sent it into the LG Repair Center here in Forth Worth and i got this diagnosis: Software Failure. Out of Warranty by Date code, Receptacle / Minor problem.
It going to cost me 45.00 + tax to fix it so i said go ahead but i'm a little concerned on what the problem actually was. I'm afraid they are just gonna ultra flash it somehow and it'll be broke again in no time. THe repair warranty is only 90 days.
What do you guys think? Any experience on this issue or something similar? Should i get the phone back and shake it for something else?
Any input is greatly appreciated.
I see what you mean, it seems like you have a hardware problem not software, not sure how flashing will fix it if you cant see any images at boot,
You did tell them the screen is not responding right?.
It is worrying to see these stories about the screen just dying, mine is around that age.
The screen just stopped responding. Sometimes i would get a very faint backlight on the screen. Its like i was trying to start the car but she wouldnt turn over. I told them everything this is all they came back.
Not very happy....
I am having a similar problem. One day it shut off and it would only boot to google then go black. It wont connect to a computer or boot also it has no haptic feedback. LG said it was an LCD connector problem and said it would be $150 to fix...
