Eq for Spotify/Android - General Questions and Answers

Hi!
I'm looking for a good equalizer. I have tried Equalizer by Smart Appa but the bass is not good at all.
I loved the real bass in PowerAmp music player but when I now got Spotify, I need something to work with Spotify.
Any suggestions for another equalizer? :/
Thanks!

Bumping this one. Really interested in finding a way to improve Spotify sound quality, since my phone (GT-7100) is not supported by Voodoo Sound.

if you dont feel comfortable building one your self i can peice one for you for a price ofcourse lol
I am using Motorola s9 hd Bluetooth headphones. And I would love to have an audio booster for this or an equalizer for it. A stand alone equalizer.

no diy stuff for bluetooth... maybe some day someone will make somethin for the market...
There has to be a media player that has a built in preamp
Boostaroo is a decent headphone inline amplifier I use in my rigged aux in for my car... SRSWow would be the plugin I recommend for Android development most (currently on my Fuze).. It clears the mids and provides better seperation and clarity.
SRSWOW FTW!
most recent HTC windows phone always come with the AUDIO BOOSTER once u plug in a headphone but i dont know if other androids by HTC has any.my recent retired HTC HD2 had one and it was really working out for me.

audio player with eq... expensive and from the reviews, the music play sucks but the EQ is solid

Interesting thread..

sorry guys those files r not compatible with the supersonic.i tried the beta half of the screen was missing.lookin forward to a 100% working audio tweaks for the supersonic hopefully someday.
check out astro player. there's a file, in the nexus forums i believe. it has an equalizer, definitely helps for mp3s. it's subtle, but it's something. i may also check out the modified sound files vinny posted (his 2nd link).
I wonder if we could improve the audio quality by combining the kernel source from this thread: {KERNEL-SOURCE} GoDmOdE-EVO-2.6.29 {Make Shift Kernel} http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=686240&page=7
with the patch from this announcement: Audio Mod for the Nexus One! http://androidaudiohacks.com/home/archives/182
specifically: http://github.com/cyanogen/cm-kernel/commit/f044b1069c4d853e535fce2b800a0af4947a22f7#diff-0 to http://github.com/toastcfh/HTC-Supe...blob/master/arch/arm/mach-msm/qdsp6/q6audio.c

Just tested this app.. The UI is hot garbage but the EQ works and adds clarity to the stock mudd. Recommended for those with playlists who set it and forget it in the car.. No widget or default stop when unplugged.

Any app for improving audio quality like better bass and treble ?

I know there is a DSP manager app, but that is not sounding that great. The reason I say this is that recently I gave up Droid X. The X had presets built into the music player for bass, 3D and stuff which made the same songs sound a lot better on the X than Droid 1.
I have tried some settings on Droid 1 in DSP Manager but they are nowhere near the quality of the X.
So does anybody have any other suggestions ?
Audio Quality..
I thought the same thing about the music sounding a bit flat. I installed the Power Amp player and am much happier now. It has a lot more customization controls, so you can add more bass if you want.
MixZing has an equalizer as well.
Try PowerAmp app From Market

+1 to PowerAMP its amazing and has tons of presets and you can also make your own.
3rd on PowerAmp..nothing else like it Even plays music ripped from streaming well.
HTC's new senseUI (in Desire Z and HD) has a DSP Manager app that has an equalizer as well. 3 different settings for Headphones, BT and speaker.
Maybe that could be ported for other phones as well?
And no, it doesn't improve quality, a better set of headphones will do that.

Volume +

PowerAMP is really amazing but I use volume+ now because it affects the every audio app (nice for streaming apps).
Just note that on any eq, you may notice some distortion in the sound. This is especially true if using bass boost and applies to any form of eq.

Try N7 player it is the best player for rocking boost bass lovers.
I tried all but liked only this one.

This might be not too related to the topic, but..
I rarely ever use equalizers for the sole reason that the songs are already mixed how the artists intended the songs to sound. I used to abuse EQ like hell when I was younger and maxed bass and treble on everything I listened to. When I turned it off I suddenly noticed small quirks and new guitars in the background, just details that I couldn't hear before because the bass overpowered everything.
Just something to think about.

samsung music vs poweramp

which u prefer?
personally i like poweramp more, their eq effect is amazing
Samsung. Not the best eq but with the beats audio mod, it's good!

Generally I prefer PowerAmp, but I like the Samsung widget and I like that it keeps music control in the notification bar all the time, so I've been sticking with it.

I'm coming from the Galaxy S Wifi 4.0 with Voodoo Sound and PowerAMP and Player Pro were for sure better than the Stock Player,
BUT now on Galaxy Note 10.1 I must say that the Samsung Player with Sound Alive set on Auto is the winner. Doesn't matter whether using earphones or speakers. The Samsung Player sounds better. Sound Alive Auto is very useful since every type of music needs its own EQ setting to sound best.
Still like the UI of PowerAmp more though.
Do any of these work with streaming my music library from google?

i'll have to check it out. if it's as good as you say then that'll make 2 stock media players that are as good as the stuff on the market - i love the video player.

poweramp is paid apps. Not comparable, I think.

Why not? On Windows: PowerDVD is paid and VLC (better) is free. Of course you can compare them both.
You guys have to listen (and concentrate) with Samsung Music (Soundalive on Auto) and PowerAMP (flat). Samsung Music clearly sounds superior. Of course your MP3s/Flac (yes! Stock Player can play FLAC) should have higher quality and your headphones, too.
I'm waiting for JB and a Kernel which supports Voodoo Sound to test it again.
Because on my other Device with Voodoo Sound, PowerAMP is better than than Samsung Music (older version) and stiil a bit more dynamic than Samsung Music from Galaxy Note 10.1. I also noticed, that Galaxy Note is almost crystal clear while my other device has very bad noise floor when DVC or EQ is enabled.

Surprising how good too. The music player is able to Play flac. And the Video player is able to handle 720 pMKV' For 1080 p vido playback you need MX or BSplayers .

Thanks for the tip. Sound alive sounds fantastic. The demo Samsung song sounds amazing and crystal clear. Virtualized 7.1 channel sounds gold also but now that I tried auto, its clearly the best IMO. Crazy how gold these stereo beakers sound on a tablet.

I've been a PowerAmp user on various devices for a long while, so was interested when first saw this thread and re-enabled srock music player to try it out. While better than prwvious players, PA still sounds much better to me over BT in my car as well as on my headphones (using flac files). I also prefer the functionality of PA, and couldnt find aome aimple things, like shuffle, in the stock player. I'm sure its there, just couldnt find it driving.

Yeah it's there. Tap on the cover art and there it is.
But like I said. PowerAMP has much better user interface. Stock Player has less options and doesn't look nice as PA.
Did you try it with headphones and [email protected]?

Low Freq Response would better bass would it not that was not the Case Dolby Mobile sounds like the music is playing inside a can lol must be the type of genres i play.
The O3D's Hardware is Actually Quite Good the Software side really criples the phone i have seen the It's hardware on other devices and its better on other devices.
Yeah. Only really if i'm listening to dubstep or drum n bass. If listening to rock i have it set to standard with no eq...
The dynamic range of my earphones just give a great sound without any eq...
I prefer listening to clean sounds anyway... just the sound engineer in me.

lol i too prefer clean sound so when i ever i set up my eq i just try to get my headphone to play louder without changing the original sound i use to go hard on the bass but when i got into dubstep im happy in the middle lol when i got the o3d spent like 20min trying to get the perfect sound.
320kbps > Sound Good With No EQ .
You tried FLAC ? never tried
Flac lossless files are great but finding a player is a bit of a pain. I always go for the highest bitrate.
Yeah. I try not to change the eq at any point. Reason being is that if you amplify the eq then it can cause loss of certain subtle parts of sounds
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda app-developers app
I always use the flat equaliser, hate mucking with the equaliser because you can easily miss details if you do that.
Anyway, I find the O3D's audio DSP quite good (TWL6040 iirc), beats any phone using Realtek (sadly a lot), but Wolfson (SGS3 for example) comes up tops. Wolfson chips produce the best audio imo.

There isn't any "best" ROM for anything. lol All of them are fine. It's more about what player you use and how you tweak your device. There are more audio mods on XDA than I can count. The beauty of this phone is the Wolfson DAC and it's compatibility with Voodoo sound. Music is all I use this phone for so I'll just give you what I use. jetAudio player with Voodoo Sound and no other mods. I've used that combo on every ROM and it sounds great. There are some other audiophiles who have this phone as well so maybe they'll chime in.
I use XOAK kanged-Xperia style. It has WiFi working okay and GPS works when you use AGPS patch from the forum. It has the Sony libs for clear audio+.
Want to pump it up even more download Bass Booster Pro from play store you won't regret it. Download the free one to try it out. It has an equalizer that gives the virtualizer effect for a fuller sound too.
