[Q] need to update to stock image - i think? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I bought a used galaxy nexus S that is on version 2.3.6.
It does not seem to be reading any sim cards and the baseband version is listed as unknown.
I think it may be on a custom rom because of this. I want to flash it back to a stock rom but have no idea where to start. I downloaded 4.1.1
the google site. which I can`t link to because I am new here..
my nexus s is I9020A so i downloaded that version of jellybean but have no idea where to go from here.
Are there any easy to follow guides? And am I even on the right track here?

just follow this tutorial (need drivers, 5 min, and bootloader unlocked):

Thank you. I am already confused at step 5 of installing the SDK though. which is:
5 - Once you're finished go to your SDK installation "extras\google\usb_driver" dir
Where exactly is the folder extras?

I still don't understand what SNS stands for?
Google says social networking services... but step 8 is: Make sure the SNS is connected to the PC via the USB cable
So I doubt that..

here they are
read carefully the last image (i wrote some tips in the command window)

looks like SNS just means the phone somehow..

That would be extremely helpful!
Thanks so much.

-put phone on fastboot mode (turn off, vol+ and power)
-plug to pc
-put your nexussrootnew folder in root of your driver (mine is: local disk(C: ) ) and in there put the images downloaded from here:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images (be carefull to download the right image for your phone!!!!!!)
-unzip one time (in that unzip folder u should have a radio file, a bootloader file, a zip folder, and 2 more files that u dont need)
- put the unzip folder on: (C: ) / nexusstooneew
-open a command prompt (click "windows key+r" then type "cmd")
-check the pics and the commands
help understanding pics:
1: win+r and type cmd
2: "cd.." means go back in the previous folder and "cd" means open folder, hit enter to make the command work
now type:
-fastboot oem unlock (will erase all your data) to get your bootloader unlocked and the nexts steps working
- fastboot flash bootloader (drag and drop bootloader.img file)
-fastboot reboot-bootloader (wait 5 secs)
-fastboot flash radio (drag and drop radio.img)
-fastboot reboot-bootloader
-fastboot -w update (drag and drop the zip file wich is in the main folder of the android image that u downloaded) (see 4 pic, the file is hightlighted) ("-w" means full wipe = clean install)

GUIDE - How to flash radio.img OS X

I couldn't find a guide for this anywhere, so after a lot of trial and error, I worked out this method from various write ups on the web.
Preq's:
Make sure your battery is fully charged (I have no idea why, but it seems to be a must do thing)
You'll need the Android SDK, so make sure you have this and you'll be needing Fastboot for Mac, which you can find here Fastboot
And you need to boot your phone in fastboot mode.
Drop the Fastboot file into to the tools directory of the SDK.
Download your desired radio image and put it in the same same folder.
To make sure Fastboot is working, open Terminal and type "fastboot devices"
(without the speech marks) and hit return. You should see:
List of devices attached
HXXXXXXXXXX device
Click to collapse
XXXXXXXXXX = the unique number of your phone.
If it doesn't display anything, you need to re-check SDK and Fastboot are installed properly.
If you do, carry on.
Now, the nervous part.
1. Open the tools directory of the SDK in a Finder window and the open a Terminal window.
2. Now, drag the 'fastboot-mac' file in to the Terminal window.
3. Type this (make sure you hit the space bar after typing) :
flash radio
Click to collapse
4. Now, drag the radio.img to the Terminal window
(It should read something like this)
/Users/Liam/SDK/tools/fastboot flash radio /Users/Liam/SDK/tools/radio.img
Click to collapse
5. Hit the return key and wait. Make sure you touch nothing.
6. When terminal has given you the "Okay" message twice, check you phone screen and make sure there isn't a red loading bar on the top left hand side of your phones screen. When this is done, type:
fastboot reboot
Click to collapse
And hit return.
7. Your phone will reboot and you're done.
If I've missed anything, let me know and I'll add it.

Wrong thread. But the thread you want, and the answer, is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10113370&postcount=91
Do some searching first..
Anyways, yeah, now I can use my MacBook.
This seems to be an odd way of doing it.
Just download the fastboot-mac binary from the htc developer page. Drop it in the platform-tools folder of the androd SDK.
Start a Terminal and run:
/path/to/platform-tools/fastboot-mac flash radio radio.img
make sure you have radio.img in the current directory where you invoke the script.
I found it easier to drag and drop the files. Saves lots of typing and does the same job.

Unlock bootloader

In the android-sdk go to the "platform-tools" folder.
Then launch a terminal and type:
Code:
adb reboot-bootloader
-> Device is rebooting
type:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
now press the + Volume button to select Unlock then - Volume Button to confirm.
restart:
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Your bootloader is now unlocked.
Now how to root it?
It not possible to lock it again!

I'll say at this point, that I know enough about Linux to be dangerous, but not enough about the Android eco-sphere (quite yet). Trying to dig up information on how to take system dumps and repackage them as .img files & looking into how to make use of the kernel source code that Acer posted.

flashing either the Acer_AV043_A700_1.025.00_EMEA_CUS1 or Acer_AV043_A700_1.028.00_EMEA_FR should fix that.
Ok, got the android stuff.
So what state does my tablet need to be into when I use the initial reboot bootloader command?
USB-debugging.
But you can just read a bit in the "A700 full root Rom"-thread. There's everything you need.

It helps to actually follow instructions...
Are you in the android-sdk folder? No? Go to it like the instructions said.
Don't know what the android-sdk folder is? Stop what you're doing now, you're going to break something. Rooting and unlocking bootloaders is not for you. Go do a whole bunch of reading before you try again.

I was a little confused too in the beginning. But adb is, like the output said, not a Windows command.
You should go to the following URL and download Android SDK:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Then install the .exe.
Once the Android SDK program has started, it'll (down)load and show you all the Android versions and tools.
Make sure you have only selected the checkboxes "Android SDK Platform Tools" and "Google USB driver". Now click on the right bottom button labeled: "Install packages".
Select the radio button: "Accept All" and click "Install".
Now, start cmd (Click start and type cmd and press enter or press the Windows flag + R on your keyboard and type cmd).
A black window will open.
Type (for 64 bit computers, if you don't know what 64 bit is, just try it. If you see an error stating it cannot find the directory, type the quoted command below 32 bit):
cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools"
Click to collapse
32 bit:
cd "C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools"

Before you continue, install the OEM USB driver:
http://developer.android.com/tools/extras/oem-usb.html
(Click with the right mouse button on Computer, click Manage. Go to Device Manager. Right click Acer A700, click update driver software.
Choose "Browe my computer for driver software". Choose "Let me pick from a list".
Click all devices or/and Have disk..
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver\ and click the file under the 2 folders (android_winusb.inf)
Click on the first one and install.)
Now follow the instructions as in the first topic, only a little bit different:

Blackstone - Fastboot Problem

Well I am trying to Flash the latest fagyi NAND for Blackstone - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1914723
So I did everything, but when I reached the fastboot thingy, I did this:
After ROM flashed, took batter out and restarted device.
Blue screen showed up, forced fastboot, ready USB state, so I connected to PC
Then I opened a command prompt, so now what should I enter in the command prompt! I am using fagyi's fastboot!
Thanks, in advance!
Sorry for double posting, but please someone answer me, or atleast give me a tip/advice!
Do you mean this part?
13. Now connect the Blackstone to your Windows OS and open a CLi/Command prompt
14. Within CLi go to the directory where you place the 'adb files & fastboot.exe' files (from step 2)
15. Type: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (this will flash install the custom CWR)
16. Then type: fastboot boot recovery.img (this will reboot your Blackstone into CWR)

Yeah that exactly!
Step 2 says
2. Extract the 'adb files & fastboot.exe' files to a folder
Click to collapse
so the 1st question is, do you know what folder you put those files in? Note that we're talking about your computer, not your phone. On your computer, open a command prompt by doing Start -> Run... -> cmd (This is Step 13). Navigate to the folder from Step 2 This is Step 14). Then, type the appropriate commands from Steps 15 & 16.
Still don't get it? Ask away!
Um the files are placed in C:
And when I enter the commands, it says 'File too big to fit in memory"? What do I do now?
So your step 14 should be to type cd c:\, then 15 fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Is that when you get the error?
Yes, exactly then!
Ok, try redownloading the fastboot program, or install the Android SDK to get the newest version directly from Google.
I've redowloaded it alot of times! And I already have the Android SDK and am using the latest one!
Are you sure that you're using the correct version of all relevant programs? By that, I mean 32 vs 64-bit.
I am not sure about that, how should I know?
Do you get the same error if you type fastboot devices ?
I havent typed that yet!
EDIT: No I get this - "RH104393397 fastboot"
Please Admin/Moderator, lock this thread, my problem is now fixed!

Can you tell me how do you fix the problem ? I have the same problem

Can I root the Fusion 2 / AT&T Fusion 2 / Huawei Fusion 2?

Yes!!
Here is my guide to walk you through it.
http://androidforums.com/fusion-2-a...-step-root-walkthrough-huawei-fusion-2-a.html
1.*How do I root my device?
Step 1: Download this file.https://www.dropbox.com/s/pr70fitqpq9c4l6/Huawei-Fusion-2-Recovery-Root.zip
Step 2 ut the Huawei Fusion 2 Recovery Root.zip on your desktop.
Step 3 : Download and install "Huawei Fusion 2 U8665 ADB drivers.rar" from here*https://www.dropbox.com/s/z70julkgz1c9hss/Huawei-Fusion2-U8665-adb-drivers.rarInstall by opening .rar and running "DriverSetup.exe".
Step 4 :Make a folder called "Huawei Fusion 2" on your desktop.
Step 5 :Extract Zip from step 2 into your fusion 2 folder.
Step 6 :Turn off phone.
Step 7 :Reboot fastboot by holding Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously for 10-20 seconds.(It will freeze at ATT logo. This is fastboot, it's a freeze to be happy about)
Step 8 :Connect phone to computer.
Step 9 : Open the folder you made and open the extracted zip (if you haven't extracted do this now)
Step 10 : Double click "Run Me"
Step 11 :Type "fastboot devices" and hit enter this will confirm if you are connected via fastboot (you are) if your connected it will list some numbers and letters and the words fastboot next to the numbers and letters.
Step 12 :Now flash modified recovery by typing "fastboot flash recovery recovery.superrecovery.img" into the "run me" window and hitting enter.
Step 13 :Unplug after the process runs says finished. And gives you the total time.*
Step 14 :Remove back of phone and take out battery for 10-15 seconds.
Step 15 :Reinsert battery hold volume up and power button simultaneously until it boots into recovery (15-20 seconds of holding both buttons)
Step 16 :Reboot Device by selecting the "reboot device" option with the volume buttons (it should already start with reboot highlighted) so just press the power button to reboot.
Step 17 :Grab a beer and relax as your device reboots with SuperSU (main root app)!Enjoy and thanks to robotic buddy for initial guide and download links, also special thanks to RFE for the 1st Root method on the Huawei Fusion 2!
*********IF IT SAYS WAITING FOR DEVICE, IT IS ONE OF FOUR THINGS; 1) YOU DID NOT PUT THE PHONE INTO FASTBOOT CORRECTLY GO AHEAD AND REPEAT STEP 7 THEN RETRY, 2) YOU SIMPLY NEED TO UNPLUG AND REPLUG PHONE AND WAIT APPROXIMATELY 25-30 SECONDS (SHOULD HAPPEN IMMEDIATELY UNLESS DRIVERS WHERE INSTALLED INCORRECTLY), 3) INCORRECTLY INSTALLED ADB DRIVERS, REINSTALL THE ADB DRIVERS FROM STEP 3, 4) YOU DID NOT NAME THE FOLDERS CORRECTLY, OR DIRECTED THE CMD TERMINAL TO THE WRONG FOLDER, MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW EVERY STEP TO A T INCLUDING CAPITALIZATIONS, SYMBOLS, AND SPACES OF FOLDERS AND CMD PROMPTS*********

Thanks BK
Try this,
Step 1. http://androidforums.com/huawei-son...nmod-7-2-zad-rom-v-1-5huawei-u8650-sonic.html
Download and unzip the "Drivers Huawei (adb drivers)" to your desktop and install the drivers. Also download and unzip the "Custom CM Recovery" to your desktop as you will need it later.
Step 2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582
Create a folder named DooMLoRD-v4 on your desktop and Download DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip and unzip it to that folder.
Put your phone into USB debugging mode and run the "runme" batch file in the DooMLoRD-v4 folder on your desktop. When done your phone should be rooted.
Step 3. Open the Custom CM Recovery folder and run the "Instalador" batch file
you now should have a rooted AT&T Fusion with ClockworkMod Recovery installed on it.
Step 4. http://androidforums.com/huawei-son...nmod-7-2-zad-rom-v-1-5huawei-u8650-sonic.html
Scroll down and you will find two custom roms that you can download and install on your phone with CM Recovery. Before you install open up the "system" folder and open the build.prop file in notepad once opened go to edit and in the drop down you should see a replace option. Replace "u8650" with "u8652" so that in your info your phone will have the right model number and save it.

I fist of all would like to thank you for your time and effort. I hit runnme and got some interesting things coming across the terminal
something about adb oudated
rom is read only
superuser failed to install
I wish i could copy the terminal data so you could see whats going on.
Is this supposed to work with 2.3.6 android?
I am going to try to find another driver and try again if anything comes to mind let me know.
Thanks BK
reloaded driver
Ok I reloaded the driver which was ok all along. Reran the doomlords app and this is what I get on the terminal.
mount: permission denied ( are you root? )
system\xbin\busybox cannot open for write
busybox not found
link failed
failed to copy superuser
Is this permission to write needing the bootloader to be unlocked? If so how do I do that?
Thanks BK
Possibly the Wrong root method..

How To Root The Huawei Ascend G510-0200

I. Before You Begin: (Unlock your bootloader : http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/servicePolicy.do?method=preUnlock) ADB and Fastboot tools attached.
if you dont get ur code from huawei then follow this easy tutorial .

1. This will void the warranty of your device. However, you can reinstate the warranty by unrooting your device if there’s any unrooting procedure available. (normally you can download the stock firmware and flash it)
2. This procedure works on Windows based PCs only.
II. Downloading Required Files:
1. Root Package (Download link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/3wjle4gfu9ekc2x/gzVNiqjIn0/Root G510-0200.zip)
III. Rooting the Huawei Ascend G510:
1. Download and place the Root Package archive on your Desktop.
2. Extract files from the archive over to your Desktop.
3. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.
4. Copy the update.app file you extracted to your Desktop over to the dload folder on your Internal storage.
5. Once it has been copied, disconnect your device from your PC.
6. Turn OFF your device.
7. Turn it back on by holding down Volume UP+Volume DOWN+Power buttons together.
8. It’ll automatically flash the file on your device.
9. Once the file’s been flashed, reboot your device.
10. Plug in your device to your PC via USB cable.
11. Double-click on the file named rootx_start.bat available on your Desktop.
12. It’ll start rooting your device, will take a couple of minutes to finish.
13. Reboot your device once it’s been rooted.
14. You’re all done!
Excellent! Your Ascend G510 has been successfully rooted and is all ready to be loaded with your favorite root-only apps!
I was able to do everything fine until step 11 where it said it could not find my device every time I clicked a key. Any idea why this happens?

adb minimal and fastboot is for your unlocking the bootloader. open cmd and locate adb and run it
adb devices
and check if you see your device attached in cmd.

How do I locate adb through cmd?
I submitted my phone's serial number, IMEI and the like almost one week ago. I have double checked everything before submitting the form, including my mail address (which is fully working, and the spam folder is empty). But I haven't received my unlock code, yet. What's the deal? What can I do?
