Charge vs Razr - Verizon Droid Charge

I was offered a razr in exchange for my charge. How does the razr stack up against the charge. Particularly the camera but everything in general. I understand it has a locked bootloader. Still learning about all that stuff because ive always had a sammy phone and could flash things very easily.

Razr. I don't know about the camera but everything else is better. They got around the locked bootloader with dual booting.

Razr. It works and it has a future. Our devs have done a fantastic job but Samsung & Verizon have ensured that this phone will hit EOL in the not too distant future.

Yeah I kinda think it's an embarrassment for them. I knew I was buying a sub-standard phone before I bought it. The reviews said it had garbage for software and nowhere near enough ram. But they also said that it showed some promise with better software. I thought about waiting for a better one to come along but there was also the talk of Verizon ending unlimited data for new users. It was truly a case now or never. Sure enough just a few weeks after I got it they ended unlimited data.
All it had going for it was it was better than the Thunderbolt and that other phone that came out just after it did. I think it was HTC but I forgot the model. Anyway the T-bolt ate it's battery too fast and wouldn't stay running. I got to compare the HTC phone side by side with my charge and the display looked washed out. The good thing that came from my decision is that I have unlimited data.
Sure enough our developers have turned it into a good phone. Now it's hard to decide whether to keep it or get a better phone. The battery life of the Razr Maxx looks mighty good. Getting around the locked boot loader by dual booting looks good too. They say Motorola has better radios than Samsung.
The big deal is a phone with this little ram really looks bad compared to the new phones. I think that's why they are trying to sweep it under the rug.

I went to a Verizon store the other day and they still had an ad playing on the tv for this phone.

it was the reg razr.
First they sent out new sim cards to see if that would fix the issue. it didn't so they did put in a trouble shooting ticket to see if it was the network since both my phones had the same issue. the trouble shooting ticket came back fine and that it must be my phones.
Ive been sent 8 different charges in the last yr. Ive gotten clnr that had everything from blown speakers, constant fc that wasn't solved by factory rest, to different screen issues. I calmly and politely argued my point that somebody clearly isn't doing their job. I told them that i wouldn't except another clnr charge. I have no faith in the device that was gonna be sent to me would be in good working order. They keep telling me that it was policy to replace it with the same model. I told them that they could offer a different device if they really wanted to and in fact i was offered other devices in the past since i had gone through so many clnr charges that were sent out to me defective. I just refused to take any of the other devices (at the time the other devices offered wasn't as good imo). It would be up to their manager to authorize it. The tier 2 tech keep insisting that he could only give me the same device. So i asked to speak to his manager.
The manager repeated the same spill. So i keep telling her that after 8 charges i wont take another. she suggested that i use my upgrade. i told her that i shouldn't have to buy a new phone when im under warranty to get a fully working phone and use the service i pay for. I also noted that if i did use my upgrade. I would have to spend more money on 2 new phones (since mine and my wifes phone was having issues). I would lose my unlimited data, which would cause my monthly bill to go up and would open up the possibility for data overage charges. Lastly i would have to pay 30x2 to use my upgrade. This was asking way to much of me just to get a working phone. As a new customer i wouldn't have to pay out so much. The manager replied that even new customers would have to pay the $30 activation fee. I told her that with all due respect Its very easy to get the new $30 activation fee waved. If verizon didn't want to do. then you could easy go to best buy or some other 3rd party retailer and they will do it and offten times can get a better deal on the phone or combo pack that you wouldnt get through verizon.
She kept insisting that she could only send out the same device. So i told her i understand her view point but please understand mine. I added That I feel as if im being treated differently because now im off contract and i either upgrade to put me back on contract or go through the nightmare of clnr charges that i had already experienced.. Where as before, when i was going through all the bad clnr charges i was offered different devices multiple times but i declined to take them. But at the time i was still on contract. I also told her that it was disheartening to feel this way since im still a paying customer and have been loyal to verizon for yrs now regardless of contract or not. Afterwards I told her that ill let her go since we cant seem to find a solution and i don't want to waste anymore of her time. Ill call back later after i figure out what to want do next.
Thats when she asked me to hold for one min. After maybe 30-60 secs she came back and said that she could replace it with a reg razr only and that it was the best she could do. I told her that i really didn't know that much about the razr but if its at least as good as the charge then that would be fine. she told me that it was actually better because and it used newer hardware. I told her that it would be fine and that i really appreciate her help and was glad that we could come up with a solution. Then she went through the clnr process but for razrs instead of charges.
i called around lunch time. But i noticed that late night they seam to be more willing to work with you. Just food for thought though. i hope this helps ya. sry for any typos im trying to watch my kids, help with homework and type at the same time.

Filed Formal Complaint With AG In Washinton State

All,
I would encourage you to join me in filing a formal complaint with the Attorney Generals Office within Washington State.
I have made serveral attempts to get T-Mobile to resolve the situation I am having with my G2X. I have had 3 different G2X phones which all reboot on their own.
The only solution T-Mobile can provide me is to suffer and wait for the software update or pay full price for another phone.
I don't find either solution to be satisfactory. I have escalated the issue to a Manager which didn't do any good. I also tried emailing the T-Mobile Executive Customer Service Team (of course no reply).
I filed a formal complaint this morning with the AG. I think we should all be intitled to trade the phone in for another model or be allowed to cancel our contracts.
I will let you know what comes out of this.

Tmo really said tough cookies or buy another phone? I'm having a hard time believing that. They either will offer you a replacement G2x (which you've obviously done) or after 3-4 swaps, offer you a different phone if you ask for it.
I can't picture them telling you to fork over another 500 for another phone.
Thank you. It's irresponsible to release a phone without any QC, then take months testing an update to fix the problems that should have been fixed before launch. A class action law suit may be in order if Tmo doesn't release the mythical update that will fix everything. In all honestly we have a case with the twitter feeds of tmo and lg promising an update to fix the issue show that they were knowledgeable that the phone they were shipping was defective at launch. Not to mention the ocean of forums and news articles reporting the same problem.

GideonX, that's not true in my case. I tried my damnest to get something else after four phones. T Mo is happy to send me another G2X as the last two came, no box, battery, cover ....nothing, just a phone. I refuse to take a fifth. I was not offered anything else except another G2X, no matter how many people I talked to.
I am going to pay the contract price for the Sensation.
Tell me what I need to do to sign on the complaint. I may start one in Texas too. My problem is, I'm on my forth and they won't offer me a Sensation without me paying for it? How many bad ones do I get before it's on them? I've jumped through hoops here.
And now my daughters much vaunted fault free G2X is now getting hinky as well. Just over a month old.
And I sent an email to the execs (with addresses from consumerist.com) at T Mobile too....not one single reply. No one will answer because they are swamped with complaints I'm thinking.

You're right, Let's just have T Mobile and LG take care of the 2 out 3 bad ones. Oh yeah.
Same thing happened to me. I filed a complaint with the BB and the AG. Received a call from a higher up at Tmo 3 days later who instructed me to return my two G2X's for a full refund and removal of the 2 year extension to my contract. That was after 7 calls to them. Finally got to the highest level of tech support who told me I was too smart for them and that they knew they couldnt argue with my logic about continually replacing the device even though they were knowingly sending me another defective unit. Phones are shipping back today.
The replacement phone is the SGS 4g, which is a downgrade IMO. I just received my fifth phone, I know it's a refurbish because I contacted a rep last Thurs. and the phone was sent on Friday (new phones are on back order). I would have been within my 14 day exchange period, but when phone #3 had the heat up and shut down issue T-Mobile told me I didn't not need to exchange the phone, just the battery. Exchanged battery and it still died. Phone #4 had really, really bad screen bleed. The phone they just delivered, phone #5, has wi-fi issues and screen bleed. About to call and speak with a rep and demand either they send me a new G2X (new box, new battery, etc) or give me my money back as I was duped into letting my 14 day exchange period lapse.
I have been with T-Mobile for almost 10 years and have never complained. T-Mobile really screwed the pooch here on QC.
I have never had a problem getting what I wanted by calling 611. That's really unfortunate that they aren't helping you out but maybe you're asking the wrong questions. Also, I get the most help by staying calm and collected. Hope things get better for you.

That sucks.They didn't offer any other options? Because for me, a big part of the equasion is how well T Mobile has treated me overall. So are you going to stay with T Mobile? How did you leave it with them? You canceled?
Even though they are more expensive I've liked how they've treated me on an individual basis, person to person. I get live people easily who are overall empathetic and knowledgable. Some may argue that. I've pissed a few off the reps off, and they still remain civil and respectful.
I think it's too bad. This is actually a huge problem for them. They have to be careful how much they do for people don't they? It could get very expensive.
Just a few more comments as I have read the replies:
1. I too was squeezed out of my remorse period by going through the phone exchange process. As everybody knows, it takes time to get a replacement, try it, send it back, get a replacement, etc....
2. Truly, the only options T-Mobile gave me after having three phones with the same issue 1. get another G2X 2. buy another model, or 3. wait for the software. All three options were not satisfactory to me as nobody can tell me when the software will happen (summer is all I get).
3. I am going to stay with T-Mobile and wait to see how the AG complaint works out. Its a big company against me.
4. Somebody made the comment about only 1 or 2 people having the issue and asked why we didn't have T-Mobile just deal with it rather than escalate. The fact is, many of these phones have problems. T-Mobile has been sending internal memos to their employees giving talking points, etc. about phone calls which come in regarding.

I will probably wait out the SGS II on Verizon and jump ship. I have been pretty impressed with T-mo's support in general. However when I talk to a retention rep and they tell me that my battery life and freezing/locking up are part of the Android OS since the G1, thats where I draw the line. I then spoke with the their supervisor who told me that they have been using android for 5 (???) years and this is just what I should expect from Android. I should be clearing my Phone logs and txt messages daily to ensure proper functionality of the phone.
I was offered continual replacements until the problem fixed itself. When speaking with the top teir they told me that LG has to agree to what phone you receive if you are getting a comparable phone. Usually it is never a like trade. It was at that point she recommended I check out some of the online communities to see if they had a solution. She couldnt "officially" recommend it but said there might be a solution on one of them. I told her I was an active member of xda and that I already ripped the phone apart to no successful end.
Well, The phones do have issues for sure. My G2X is on the lighter side of the issue pool with only the occasional reboot and shut down that requires a battery pull. Oh and I can't forget the damn Data connection bouncing between 4G and nill like a superball on meth any time I try to actually use my Unlimited-Limited Data plan. (2GB with speed capped is not unlimited but I knew this when I paid for the service.)
I don't know what the AG can or really will do about something like this. A private attorney could possible make a case for a defective unit that was intentionally sold knowing it was defective. But proving someone KNEW something is kinda difficult. It would be fairly fruitless unless T-mo made a blanket statement and refused to support us anymore at all. The contracts are very well worded to specifically make moves like this a non-issue for T-mo.
I'm on hold trying to get a replacement battery to see if that helps, I know it wont but a second battery would be nice anyway. I love my G2X, and honestly I'd do it over again knowing what I know now because Ive had countless hours of enjoyment playing games on it, and just using it.
***Edit: And just like that they are shipping me a replacement Battery. I'm finding it hard to be upset with the T-mo support people. ***
OP, I know someone in the AG's office in Olympia. I sent them a one-pager of my experiences to add to yours. They actually have a case open against T-Mobile for unfair business practices having to do with terms disclosure so the handling of the G2X issues can easily be added to that. And you don't still have to have the phone in order to get involved. If the AG's findings are against T-Mobile there's a shot at remedy and/or financial compensation for both current and former Washington owners. And if Washington sites T-Mobile, others in other States can forward the findings to their AG which makes it easier to get the case picked up.

i dont have a hard time believing that...they said the same crap to me when i went thru 6 refurbished G2 phones in a little over a month, 4 of them in about one weeks time because they were defects out of the box. they offered me various phones which none were acceptable to me, and then they decided to tell me that i can pay full retail, or contact HTC for repairs, which i thought was dumb because HTC fixed the refurbs so why would i go thru more work for the same results?
honestly, these phone makers are so worried about production they dont give a **** about quality and performance, because they know some sucker will pay full retail for the next supposed better model.

yea thats bull****! i had a directv rep tell me it can take up to 8 MINUTES, yes minutes for an hd channel to tune in when i complained about how slow my box was. i was told in a store that the G2x requires more charging when i went to swap my battery out, i said maybe so, but in reality my G2 under 4 times the usage got me a whole days use, the G2x battery got me half a day under less use, so that makes no sense at all. i can see charging it half way thru the day with the same use as my G2.....they really think most customers are that stupid and will listen to anything their big corporate brother tells them. for the time i used android, erasing stuff never made my phone work better except on my G1 where i limited my SMS to 25 per thread, as my messaging app was always slow unless i deleted them. these reps will tell you anything just to get your ass off the phone
i remember when i was a sales rep the crap they wanted us to tell people on why a phone was laggy, or slow, etc. remember that pile of crap, the moto Q? instead of dealing with the problems they had and the complaints, i would just tell people that they were piles of crap and dont bother....instead they wanted us to say that an extended battery will resolve the lack of battery life...so someone that wants a nice thin phone cant have a nice thin phone with that battery!!! so lets move on to another device. oh, the trackwheel/pad sucks? they would tell us to tell people windows will constantly update the device to work better. year right.... well how about blackberry, its a lot smoother...thats my answer!!

I got my replacement battery today. So I went back to my stock backup (from CM7) and put in my new battery (read 86%) which had a "build date" of about a month after my first one.
The phone reset itself in less than 30 minutes while charging to full...

[Q] Black Tie Program on Broken Inspire

Ok so heres my situation... I bought the inspire from best buy about 20 days ago on an upgrade, I decided to not get their black tie plan because I did not cause any physical damage to my old captivate so I thought I would be alright to pass on it this time. Until today that is... I had the phone in my back pocket and when I sat down I must have applied some extra pressure to the front and in result the screen in mostly shattered.
So I have decided to come to you guys in search for a few solutions. I noticed that you can add the black tie on up to 30 days from the purchase of your phone but I am doubting whether or not I could convince them to put it on my phone even though the phone is already broken but I was wondering if anyone here has ever had any luck getting this plan on after the damage had been done?
I would hate to think the best buy would really be so ignorant as to make me keep a phone with a shattered screen for the remaining 2 years that is on my contract (granted it is my fault it broke), I would like to think they would help someone in my position out to keep me happy and wanting to return back to their stores.
If there is no chance for this, then what would you guys recommend I do to get this fixed for as little cost as possible.

I just took a captivate that wouldn't turn on and they replaced it with an inspire. So I think they're pretty good about exchanging phones. Unless I just got lucky haha

With a phone that unquestionably has suffered physical damage, I don't think it's reasonable to expect them to go that far in wanting to keep their customers happy.
Unless this "black tie" thing pretty much effectively says "sure, throw your phone off a cliff, drive over it with a semi, we want you happy, so we'll keep giving you phones," then I wouldn't get your hopes up.
But like Matt said, you got nothin' to lose and everything to gain at this point...
You never know what they will do. In December I upgraded to an Aria for $0.01, I did get the black tie coverage. There was a slight issue with the earspeaker and I took it somewhere local so I wouldn't be without my phone for a matter of weeks. Needles to say, that was a mistake. The repair place screwed it up. I took it to best buy and long story short, after sending it off for repair 4 times they have me an Inspire.
I think it is a very good thing to get to know the ppl that work in mobile and not be one of those customers they hate to see come into the store. They all knew me by my first name.lol They have me my choice of phones and I chose the Inspire and have never looked back!
BB its usually quite eager to please the customer, they know if you are happy with their mobile dept. you may buy your next tv there also.

Well, there's a teeny tiny bit of difference between a bad ear speaker and a "mostly shattered" screen, but, who knows...
brick it ..... That is the only solution O.O. I remember while back best buy told me if I bought their protection plan, I could walk out side drive my car over my phone bring it back in and get a new one/ fixed, never tested it though.
Obviously don't buy the Black Tie plan and then immediately whip the phone out of your pocket.... If it was me, I'd take the receipt in and say that I decided to go with the black tie plan after all. Then I'd take it in the next day, or the day after that. It might still look suspicious, but not as.
I took the black tie protection for my laptop and TV. Laptop got its hdd replaced twice, without a question. He opened it, took the old one out, put in the new one, and gave the old one back to me.
In my opinion, its worth the trouble/hassle for 3 years.
Thanks for your help and suggestions guys, I will hopefully go up there tomorrow and basiclly beg thats what I get for not adding it on when I got the phone, just my luck. Btw, I wasnt trying to say that they owed it to anyone to replace it, I was just saying would be a kind gesture to someone,who messed up. All they would have to do is change the screen then sell it refurbished for about 50dollars less than a new one.
Also, why do they allow you to add the black tie within the first 30 days but your excluded if you have already broken it then your not allowed to have it anymore. Just my thoughts on it, please pardon my ramblings..

Well that's actually encouraging for the op, then. Unless of course they were exaggerating for purposes of selling the program.
I guess the only thing that would concern me is the amount of time the op takes between signing up for the program, and "cashing" in on it, so to speak.
I also don't know if they would require physical inspection of the phone when signing up, if done after the initial sale, when of course the brand new phone is there in front of them...
Just a quick update, I took it in today and they were very kind and helping and because I had the protection plan on my old phone they said they could add it back and and say that the person who sold me the new phone had forgotten to transfer the plan to the new phone.
They told me to wait 2-3 before I bring it back in for repairs because they are usually not allowed to do this to an already broken phone but the manager gave the approval.
Just thought that I would poke back so anyone in this situation in the future will have a bit of hope. And that this is another reason why I continue to get my phones at best buy... great customer service (most of the time) and a protection plan that is too good to pass up.

They told me to wait 2-3 before I bring it back in for repairs because they are usually not allowed to do this to an already broken phone but the manager gave the approval.
Just thought that I would poke back so anyone in this situation in the future will have a bit of hope. And that this is another reason why I continue to get my phones at best buy... great customer service (most of the time) and a protection plan that is too good to pass up.

Put it this way its like buying a car with out "protection" and just that one day after the 30 days you run into a wall.. Take the car back and say hey I would like to get the protection plan. 99.99% they will ask let me see the car. Just as in example. Its a business. But I have the Black tie and the buy back on my phone because just in case I do drop it its cover, I had it on my last phone they sent it out for a repair go it back in like a week brand new could not even tell. Rather then going through att paying 5$s on it if it get stolen and having to pay a delectable. Heck I even got water on my phone and it was covered. So its worth it to me. On the phones think about its your MOBILE phone you have it on you all the time rather it be in your pocket in case or in case on a belt clip you always have that chance of missing your pocket and your phone slips. and BOOM broken screen. And then your like AHH!! FML! lol

I dont know about rapidly, but they have always been good about replacing my damaged phones. I went through 2 captivates (both took a swim) and they replaced them both, but the process took over 2 weeks. And on my last captivate they let me switch to the Inspire since the Captivate was out of stock.
Here is my update, I took it in a few days after I got the plan added and the guy who helped was very nice. They said that they were doing to do a rapid exchange (still not quite sure what that means but I think it is something along the lines of receiving a refurbished phone) and that they would get my "new" phone in within the next few days which is better than the 27 days I waited to receive my Captivate from being fixed a while back.
What sucks is that I am using my miserably slow iphone 3g until I get the new phone in.
One last question, if I am on the best buy reward zone silver level, does the extended 45 day return policy apply to cell phones? And if so, would I be able to exchange the refurbished inspire for the infuse and pay the difference even though they would have technically given me a refurbished phone?

Has anyone had any experience through the Phone Claim ? aka Asurion

So I have been reading that quite a few people believe that the phones given to you are pieces of dung.
Is this true? I have just placed a phone claim order as I have cracked my screen and between the cost of replacing the entire digitizer/lcd it is cheaper to get an entirely new one weird huh?
Anyways, for 5 bucks a month extra, hell why not.
I cracked my screen, (not the LCD but the glass on top) so that's what I have filed.
I am worried though that since I have rooted/changed ROM's on my phone they may raise question?
Should I worry? Although it seems that they will take my device anyways as the return rate (which is quite speedy) 1-2 days would not be able to catch my device in time for testing it and determining that it has been tampered with.
Though that is not the problem that I have stated rather that it is physical damage (which it is).
I'm just worried that I'm going to get something which might have been bricked, or something that was dropped, they said physically they look brand new.
I don't know... who has gone through this process?
I will have in two days time so I guess if anything, I'll let you guys know.

This was actually the WAY i got my infuse.....
i had the plan on my Captivate, i Bricked it and didnt want to by a Jig....so i told them i lost it and to send me another one. through some Att misshaps and a lil perssistance on my end they ended up giving me the infuse for free....but at any rate. i have not noticed anything janky about the phone. and my mother has just gotten her Captivate replaced as well. and again hers seems to ok as well.
if anything you can always send it back it doesnt work........they will just replace it again.

FYI beginning in October, the monthly rate will increase to $6.99 and the deductible to $199.00! Thats $367.00 to replace a phone once over the course of a 2 year contract. What a deal!
Its a toss up. who's to say the phone your getting was not just Bricked. then all they had to do was reload and run there lil software and now the phone is ready to be sent to a new Customer. would you call that an old phone.....not everyone has Physical problems.

All the replacement phones through Asurion are "refurbished". Even if the phone was damaged they replace anything and everything that has damage to it. I have had 0 problems with mine, it also came with a 2gb microsd card and a car charger

For sanitary purposes, EVERYTHING has to be replaced that could have been touched by the previous owner. Usually, the only thing reused is the actual motherboard for the phone. The case, mic, speaker, earpiece, etc has to be replaced.
I used Asurion when my microUSB port went bad on my Infuse, had no problems getting a replacement that has worked very well since. Sent them back a rooted/rommed phone and they didn't care at all

That's because when they get the phone, they don't look at the software at all. They put the motherboard into a new shell for the phone, and then use their software to send the phone back into stock (flashes bootloaders to, so it fixes bricked phones).
That's why they never figure out unless you get REAL unlucky.
Just a quick question, I had gotten a confirmation on a package being sent early this morning (boy they're fast) and I was curious if I should wipe everything on my phone and also if I should send them my micro sd card as well?
Also about setting up the new phone, how hard is that besides just placing the sim card in the phone (getting back onto the network and such) do I need to bring it into AT & T?
What else do I need to send in or just the phone itself?
I was told that there would be instructions in the package.
Wouldn't it be neat if I was able to pull the switch-aroo on them and pull out my motherboard on put it on the new phone that they sent me.

maybe cool, or just alot of work..........Keep the SD card. Keep the Cables. they just want the PHONE.
Well I'm already running the new phone (rooted at that) although I think I'm keeping this stock rom for now, (I flashed it earlier before the Infused 1.5) but I like this rom, it's efficient and at my use it does the job well.
The phone looks brand spanking new as others have said, the outside is entirely new, just the inside (didn't look so don't know if that is true based on my experience).
New accessories (very nice, now I can have dedicated USB chord and charger chord) .
It took me a while to figure out how to reset the crap load of numbers on the phone to register myself to the open airwaves (imagine the free service if you knew how to de-code so to speak).
So far I'm happy, I only had one weird issue at first, when I scrolled down on a webpage, half of the screen (looking at it landscape view) would not move with the rest so there was this clear dividing line in the middle of the page... weird.
It's not doing that anymore though.

As long as they get your old phone back within (I think 7 days), you'll be fine, and someone else will be enjoying the innards of your old Infuse.

Cost of replaced phone with insurance = total amount of insurance premiums paid since last claim + any deductible.
Cost of replaced phone without insurance staying on same carrier= Cost to buy replacement phone either new, refurbished or second hand (ebay/craigslist)
Cost of replaced phone without insurance leaving carrier = ETF fee + Cost to buy new or replacement or second hand phone with or without contract on another carrier or mvno
All phones that are processed through Asurion have undergone a 50-75 point checklist, depending on the device.

A case for the Droid Charge: a perspective for potential or unhappy owners

The Droid Charge is coming up on its first birthday, and having been a day 1 adopter I've seen the phone through some downs and ups. Like many committed to this phone, I was very tempted by next generation 4G devices like the RARZ, Rezound, or Nexus. I've been disappointed with Samsung's lack of cooperation on code critical to ROM development. I've watched new phones quickly released pushing the Charge further into history.
However, i'm writing this to acknowledge what is great about this device and why you should be happy to get or have one.
Firstly, the hardware. While the Charge has only a single core and 512 memory, the shortcomings really end there. It's Super AMOLED+ screen is by far one of - if not THE most perfect display on a mobile device that i've seen and I believe it equal or superior to any of the Verizon 4G devices. It's form factor and physical buttons are pleasant to use, and it's weight feels good in a hand or pocket. Its connectivity options and accessories are top notch with full MicroSD, HDMI, and horizontal docking stations with backup battery chargers. It packs the superior Audio chips that have drawn audiophiles to the phone. It's battery life has with recent software updates become perfectly adequate: I regularly get 12-15 hours of genuinely moderate use including 45-60 minutes of calls, 2-3 hours of web browsing, and 1 hour of bluetooth music streaming on a single charge. (Caveat: frequently on WiFi, while on 4G only battery lasts more like 8 hours). However with a cheap, replaceable battery which fits in my slim wallet as easily as 4 folded $20 bills, I easily do whatever I want as long as I want so long as I can charge while sleeping.
Secondly, the software: yes, it's come a long way. Those of us who remember rooting ED1 and hoping for a voodoo lagfix back in June know how bad it was - the color scheme, the RFS file system, the terrible browsing. However, as of today on Eclipse ROM 2.0 (FP1 based) the phone performs beautifully with no lag on home screens, snappy browsing, and an attractive, feature rich interface.
Lastly, and probably most importantly, is the Value. The Charge is the best phone dollar for dollar that you can buy today. Commonly available on craigslist for $120 used with a $20 docking station from Ebay you can have a great setup for less than the cost of buying other phones with contract. I was recently in a position to upgrade to a Galaxy nexus for $350 (from ebay, selling charge for $120 for a net cost around $200) and thought to myself, why? are small advances in CPU and memory that affect me little on a daily worth $200? and the answer was clearly: no. Can i get a better gingerbread experience with longer battery life on the Razr Maxx? For $400 net cost maybe, but only slightly, and with nearly equivalent battery life so long as you plan ahead. And what if you drop the phone on the ground and shatter it? You could have a new Droid Charge for less than the deductible if you carried insurance, which could save you $10/mo - or $400ish if you had a shiny nexus or Maxx with no policy.
And so, that's my opinion as a Droid Charge early adopter. If you're thinking of getting one today you'll luck out and have a great experience - head over to the forums and read the stickies on ODIN, CWM, and then get a FP1 based ROM right away. If you're thinking of jumping ship, and $200 is at all consequential to your life, consider what you get from another phone in your overall value decision.

I agree with this. Using the phone can get frustrating at times, especially for those who have the static problems (get a replacement!!!), but in the end it's the price we pay for getting the first gen 4g and locking in unlimited data.

I forgot to mention that's why I went with the Charge in the first place - in May 2011 we didnt know if there would be any new phones like the Nexus or Razr before unlimited data would go away.

Yeah but when you go to upgrade you have to sign a new 2 year contract and unlimited will not be an option. Only way to stay locked in to unlimited data is by buying phone @ retail price
But I agree with this post and will wait till a new nexus comes out..Which prob wont come out till end of this year or begging of next year...

Not true. I upgraded in September from my old Blackberry w/ unlimited data. I got to keep my unlimited data, and my brother (new line) got tiered. I hear Verizon has a good reputation of honoring contract extensions by keeping past low prices on existing contracts and from people whose cheap carriers were bought by Verizon.
Wrong. I will be renewing my contract therefore locking in unlimited.
I upgraded my wife's incredible to the rezound and still have unlimited data. During the upgrade we got the upgrade price of 199 at the time before 49 came around. Not worried about the cost since teh wife is happy.
Not one customer service rep has said I will lose my unlimited data for upgrading my phone when the time comes around. My data will even carry over to a new plan if I want a new plan. Whoever is telling you all that you are going to lose your unlimited data plan is hog wash.
Funny thing was, my wife was 9 months out from upgrading to a new phone, but the incredible turned to garbage after a year of good use. They gave us the deal without hesitating. So, if your phone is going belly up and you need something reliable and new big red may help you out as well.

Yea, I've already verified with Verizon that the data plan is tied to the individual customer and as long as you don't change your data plan, you can carry it with you and not change anything. I just combined my line onto a new family plan, under someone else's name, and my data didn't change. They still have their 4GB double data, and I still have my unlimited data.

So if i split my line off my family plan i should be able to keep the data?
I am a perfect example of this scenario. I had the Fascinate for about a year, and just couldn't stop thinking about how much I wanted a 4G phone and bigger screen. A little over a month ago, I decided to upgrade. All of the BIG 3 phones (razr, rezound, nexus) were available on ebay or craigslist, but I went with The Droid Charge. Got mine for $125 on ebay, bought a car dock for $20, flashed Eclipse and FP1 radio (haven't gotten around to Eclipse 2.0 yet and FP1 kernel), and I could not be happier. I have not even thought about another device, and the phone is stable, quick and of course the screen is fantastic. I agree, the Charge is a great value on the phone market right now.

From my understanding, yes, as long as the service is uninterrupted.
I kind of hate these owner-justification threads, because this phone is undeniably dated at this point... yet there's nothing wrong with that. Technology moves quickly. That's just how it is.
The Galaxy Nexus is noticeably much faster in daily use, and you're deluding yourself (and/or haven't used one) if you insist otherwise.... but it should be faster! It's newer. Yet in a year, you can be sure it too will start looking outdated. Once again, technology moves fast.
Finally: if you're buying a phone off-contract and need to save money, sure, consider the Charge, because yeah, you can get it pretty cheap. But the reality is that the overwhelming majority of people buy phones on-contract, and getting this in that scenario -- when you can get a much newer and all-around better phone like the Lucid (now *that* is a good value) for less money -- would be a definite mistake.
Just rooted and loaded Eclipse 2.0. Phone is better than ever.
I had been considering picking up a new phone but I am glad that I gave the Charge another shot.

This is wrong. When you upgrade you still can keep your unlimited data. I verified this with Verizon.
As for the main post by cmdrfrog. I agree 100% with what he wrote. My contact is up in September and I was thinking of upgrading to the Galaxy Nexus but after flashing my Charge with the Tweaked v2.0 rom by dwitherell. I really don't see any reason to upgrade currently with the exception of having the latest and greatest and better rom support.
I gotta say that the Charge more or less forced me into the geeky root, rom, mod, script, theme, radio, etc flashing thing. If the Charge didn't suck so much stock, I likely wouldn't have much of an Android skillset today.
Once tricked out properly, the Charge is a great phone. The VIA baseband is sub-par IMO, but for some people it seems fine.
I remember when there were rumors of Verizon dropping unlimited. The Charge was my first smartphone. I was compelled to get a 4G phone just in case Verizon wouldn't let you upgrade a 3G device and still let you keep unlimited in the future, and just 5 weeks later, Verizon dropped unlimited. At the time it was the Charge or the Thunderbolt, and I am glad I didn't get the Thunderbolt...
I remember when I first had an Odin flash fail, I think my heart skipped a couple beats.
The Charge has drawbacks, no doubt about it, but it is still an awesome phone. I think most people would be happy with it waiting for something like the GS3.
Newb here, but thought I'd chime in. Before rooting, my Charge was slow, and laggy (is that a word?). After taking the plunge, and rooting with Tweakstock, the phone runs great! I agree that is a little dated now, but my rooted Charge will keep me happy til my next upgrade.

Way to think positive! That is really a good point though. The phone was so terrible when it came out I thought I had faulty hardware and went back to the store for a replacement. When I realized I was just stuck with the phone the way it was, I joined XDA and started tweaking. I never would have learned so much about rooting, scripts, themes, even the Linux shell. Now, the phone works beautifully (though finally getting a device that came out a year ago into working order is unacceptably late). I will be holding on to this one for a while.

Just go buy the SGS 3 I promise you will be so much happier... go sell your A2 on Ebay for 200 while you still can (before the next atrix HD is out), and put that toward an SGS 3 off contract....
It will stick to moto, by not buying another phone from them, and make you much happier... I promise the SGS 3 is not like anyother Galaxy yet. It it sturdy and does not feel cheap, and I am getting about 20 hours of heavy use on the battery before a charge. I am putting it on the charger every night at bedtime, and it still has about 35-40% left on it... so...

Just go buy the SGS 3 I promise you will be so much happier... go sell your A2 on Ebay for 200 while you still can (before the next atrix HD is out), and put that toward an SGS 3 off contract....
It will stick to moto, by not buying another phone from them, and make you much happier... I promise the SGS 3 is not like anyother Galaxy yet. It it sturdy and does not feel cheap, and I am getting about 20 hours of heavy use on the battery before a charge. I am putting on the charger every night at bedtime, and it still has about 35-40% left on it... so...

I have always gotten a feeling of cheaply made hardware from Samsung, though (including the Galaxy S3 as I played with one in-depth at an AT&T store recently). Also, my full upgrade eligibility date is around the end of September which isn't all that far off...plus if I upgrade through Best Buy Mobile before the end of the year they'll give me a $50 gift card on the spot for doing so (they had a promo earlier in the year that you could sign up for).

I have always thought the same thing about Samsung Galaxy hardware, but this is the first one that I have not thought that about, and it is really a HUGE step forward for hardware in a phone. It has LTE, NFC, HD display a dual core 1.5 GHZ CPU that can overclock stable to 1.9 GHZ, and it is butter smooth even with out JB on it... so when JB comes with CM 10, it will be just crazy!!! And the Dev support is nothing short of amazing, and it has only been in peoples hands a little less than a month.
Just like with the A2 I can't say enough good things about it. Don't discount it, I promise it will not disappoint, and it does not have ANYTHING locked down.
When you come up for your upgrade in sept. think about it, and give it a shot.

Yes, I bought a Gen2 Zune back then because I am anti-Apple...before Android was a thing... and M$ pushed it aside and made the Zune HD, with little to no support or upgrades on the original two generations and their loyal buyers.
OOPS, WE SCREWED THAT ONE UP, LETS START OVER. You just know behind the scenes there are ****ty programmers and even ****tier managers making poor decisions.
If I had the money, the Nexus would be my choice, but I have kids to feed.

GO to best buy, and trade the A2 in toward the SGS 3, and use the $50 credit, and you might have to pay 50 bucks... heck I traded my inspire in at BB and I only payed 99 for it, and they gave me 100 for it, and gave me a $50 gift card, so I got the phone for free plus a case and a 32GB SDcard all with out having to pay 1 dollar for the A2....
Just something to think about.
If this phone is locked down to AT&T like our A2 was it will be another epic fail for MOTO!!! Funny how Samsung doesn't bow down to AT&T but MOTO caters to their every whelm. Which goes back to the finger pointing, MOTO says it's up to the carriers and the carriers say it's up to the manufacturer.
I want the SG3... something fierce. I've tried to sell my girlfriend's A2 on eBay and Craig's List -to no avail. She upgraded to it from the first A4G, but doesn't care either way about it. To her, its a phone, and just a phone! Listed at about the sane price as would be the $199.00 new two year contract price.
Question: I see this "feedback" deal here on XDA on my profile and others. So, is that for 1) people selling old or unused devices, and 2) would there be audience here that would prove to have more interested parties to buy other than eBay or Craigslist?

Go to Best buy and get the $50, gift certificate, and do the phone buy back, they should give you 100-150 as a buy back for the A2 even if Craigslist and ebay don't get you a sale.

It will be business as usual for moto... heck, they just re-locked the bootloader on the OG Atrix with the last updated... so...
I would assume the worst here.

You can trade in mobile phones for gift cards at Best Buy...you could trade in the Atrix 2 for $150 in good condition - I just checked.

That's $150 for basically a mint-condition Atrix 2 without a single blemish or nick on the surface/body of the phone anywhere, with the original box, original paperwork, USB charger and cable, etc... now, while a lot of folks keep all that stuff around, not everyone does. I got my Atrix 2 from a pawn shop and while it's in great shape (just a tiny nick on the back side where the plastic surrounding the camera lens is), I don't have any of the other contents so I'd be looking at $50-90 tops, sadly.
Can sell it on craigslist for $125 cash in a few hours more than likely... been considering it based on a) the infamous locked bootloader fiasco and b) AT&T taking their sweet freakin' time with ICS even if Motorola has it ready to go (they probably do at this point, who knows).
I hate companies that make great products then do something stupid with them like the bootloader crap. Sony, ruined years ago. Motorola, getting worse by the day. And don't even get me started on Apple.
I sense that the battery is going to really suck on that new atrix hd.... think about it, the battery is approximately 1700 Mah (like our atrix 2) with a bigger screen, higher resolution and Lte , hopefully the snapdragon wont be a drainer but its still clocked higher than the current atrix 2....
its gonna be problematic like the droid razr...
Go for the Razr Maxx or the upcoming Razr Hd that's the one I'm gonna go for, switching to Verizon when that comes out!

Luckily all of my phones are kept in mint condition with the box and stuff.

That is not totally true... I sold back my inspire 4G to BB when I got the A2, and they gave me 100 gift car for it, and I only paid 99 for it new... and I did not have the box the usb cable or the charger... it was just the phone, heck I even had CM9 rooted and running on it... they told me they did not care, and they even waited while I wiped my data off the phone. They are just going to recycle it, and re-sell it to you as a refurb, or use it as a replacement for thier BB "geak squad" protection.
Might have to look into that with my own Atrix 2 then, but I think in the long run I'd still rather have cold hard cash in the hand than some damned gift certificate/card, especially at Worst Buy. Sorry, had to say it as I've dealt with their crap over the years and still do whenever someone brings me a laptop to fix/optimize/repair and the first words from the client are "I took it to Geek Squad and..." or I spot the stupid little pink sticker on the bottom that confirms yes they did get it hosed/looked over at some Best Buy location.
I'm really disappointed in Motorola at this point. The Atrix 2 is one very nice piece of hardware start to finish, but it's hamstrung by these stupid restrictions. It's more than capable of running Jelly Bean even in spite of missing a few features (no NFC, no "recommended" quad core CPU, etc) but we'll never ever see it and the phone is barely 9 months old.
Seems like the "cycle of obsolescence" is just increased, like Moore's Law I suppose. A few years ago you could count on a solid up within a given period of time (and 9 months to get ICS is ridiculous, period, it just is any way you slice it) and now it looks like companies are literally taking the track of producing somewhat high-end smartphone hardware and 6 months later it's effectively given the heave ho and dismissed for the next big thing.
This is a really sad way of doing things and making the "disposable society" that much worse, every minute that passes.

Yeah I gotta say BB is worst buy... they really do suck... The only reason I got my A2 from them was the trade in, I hated the Inspire and had to get rid of it and I could not give it away and AT&T does not buy back, so... they really are the only game if you intend to trade your old phone back in for a new one.
And the customer service at BB is absolute crap. I fried my A2s bootloader 31 days of owning it, and BB threw the 30 day policy at me... I went literally across the street to the AT&T corp store and walked out with a replacement phone.
But again if you want to trade the A2 for any other phone go to BB and get the 100-150 bucks for it, before it drops lower.
If I had the money (and the good credit) I'd be all over a Galaxy Note right now but, that's a wish that'll never come true so...
Ain't nothing at Best Buy I want to be honest, the Wife still wants a Nook Color/Tablet but, it's just slightly out of our price range for the present/foreseeable future, still on the wish list (but that might actually be doable).
But I can honestly say I'll never directly purchased another Motorola phone unless it's a) branded as a Google Nexus product and b) it has an unlocked bootloader or can be unlocked as easily as "fastboot oem unlock" - I'm just not going to compromise from now on.
Honestly I think a lot of people are moving towards only Nexus-branded hardware. I had a Nexus S recently for a short period of time and it was a blast to own, great piece of hardware and now I find myself wishing I still had it in some respects more than this Atrix 2.
Atrix 2 with Jelly Bean native... that would be a great piece of hardware to own, wouldn't it? It's a crying shame, really.
