Beginner rooting and ROM-ing - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok - I have a new Samsung tab2... P3100 - sadly, it is from China and I cannot seem to access anything I want, despite vpn and us simcard - I am sure there are a million ways around this if I spoke or read Mandarin... I don't. I'm guessing I need to Root and ROM, so am about to take the plunge ... I have today and tomorrow to mess around.
Fingers crossed.
Is this a bad idea?
Cheers

Ok - I think I have installed and rooted ... I think... Now I am downloading something form India - and hopefully putting in something new? right??? Sorry for such newbie questions. I am such a newb that it took me long time to realize that volume up and down seem to be the opposite to what is expected and described everywhere...

And the update ... I don;t know why, but the wholeROM won't go over to the SDcars via the usb ... I am bluetoothing it over ... I am such a noob, right? But over usb using the PTP (MTP won't discover the device) it cuts out just before the full file gets through. I have not long to go till the complete download ... then I should be able to internally just switch it over, surely? sigh. Wish there was someone out there to help.

Make sure the tab2 is Samsung genuine not a copy
Read as much as possible before doing anything not to hard brick it (nearly unrecoverable)
If the language is chinese try to flash via odin 1.85 for windows a stock firmware which carry your mother language found in www.samfirmware.com
If you are rooted you could try cm10 for 3100 (not any other) from www.teamhacksung.org , i use it now marvellous
Regarding copy to sd card try to use microsd adapter and sd card reader to copy firmwares and files to device
install kies for drivers and connection to pc and odin found in main samsung site
Sent from Galaxy S2 or Galaxy Tab2

Thanks
Yee haw. I really didn't know what I was doing, except I knew it was a genuine product. Woot!
Ok, So I had to stop trying to get JB on it, but I managed to get the ROM? (maybe that's what it is called?) changed to an Indian on that I guess doesn't have the same internet restrictions. I now have 4.04 . Maybe I had that before, maybe not. But I can now definitely use google play with and without the VPN. Downloaded heaps of apps that I'd had on my HTC and am pretty happy overall. Have Feat vpn, Swype, and dolphin that make my Android life awesome.
My one sadness (I'm pretty tough to please) is that there is this app called Skritter that I've been using on my wife's iPad... Although the app says android BETA as well - no - it doesn't even come close to existence past Android 2.something. Skritter have given up on Android. And that saddens me, as it was the only app I had come across that really benefited my character learning I had hoped to use the 3G for this purpose almost exclusively. Sigh.
Mohamed, Bless you for responding.
For all those out there like me, who are not trained in Computer programming, there is a light (even with a Mac on boootcamp like me - I wonder if that was behind the usb driver problem). Yes, it cost me a whole day, but that was just part of the fun. So glad I didn't brick the thing too.
Actually, the process was lightning quick, except for the bluetoothing and downloading of the Large INdian ROM(?) And the inability to actuate the process due to glitches with USB and file transfers.
Also ODIN - nobody told me I needed to put in the PIT (?) file that came with something I downloaded. I stuck it in above the PDA section on ODIN and it worked... Was I supposed to I wonder??? At least the ODIN was merciful and I am ....
Absolutely amazed I managed it..

So it doesn't need the PIT file popped in?
Cause it didn't work - then I popped pit file in and - bang hey presto - it worked. What is the PIT file for then?

[Q] $50 to anyone who can help me fix my SGH-T959P

My phone's been stuck in downloading mode for a week, and it's affecting my efficiency (and my sanity), so now I'm offering some money.
I have a Telus Fascinate 4G SGH-T959P. I wanted to get 2.3.3 on it, so I installed CWM, did a set of backups, and then, because there is no forum area for this phone, I guessed that it must be the Canadian equivalent of the T959V (The Samsung G4), and I loaded a ROM for that phone (I know now I was wrong), and now all my phone will do is go to downloading mode.
Using Odin3 1.7, I have tried writing half a dozen things to the phone, including kernels and roms for the infuse, the regular fascinate, and the 4G, just hoping to get the phone to boot so I could reinstall my CWM backups, but i can't get anything to work.
Now I think I have 4 options. From least to most desirable they are:
4) Electro-toast the phone with a BBQ lighter, and send it in for warranty ("It just quit working one day!?!??"). This would be slow, and scores some bad karma points.
3) I can find someone to send the phone to who can fix it and send it back. This would be great but would still take a week or two.
2) Learn how to extract what I need from a working phone, then go into future shop, buy a new phone, take it into the parking lot, do the frankenstein thing, and take the new phone back in and return it. This would be quick, but risky, time consuming and difficult (I imagine).
1) Find someone on XDA who can get me the file I need, paypal them a $50 reward for motivation. This way, I have fast expert help.
So I welcome any thoughts and comments, but mostly would welcome a .tar file for odin to revive this puppy. If you are the guy who gets me the successful file, I promise I will be very, very happy to send you $50. Or if you can think of a way to get the phone to boot that I can do here in my internet connected RV out in the middle of nowhere, that would qualify too.
P.S. do we need a forum area for this phone?
Thanks everyone.
I just ordered this phone over the weekend hoping to do what you tried and failed at. I guess I should have done more research before ordering . Since I'm planning on using it on AT&T, luckily I see that it has been successfully rooted and unlocked here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076493
I'm still hopeful that there will be more support coming for custom roms since this is still on 2.2 but a pretty new phone.
I have not received the phone yet, but would be happy to help you out once I do get it in a few days. I'm noob to andriod though so might need some good detailed instructions from you. Hit me up if you still need help and Ill let you know once I get the phone.
Well I'm not really confident on what has to happen either (as evident by my phone's current state), but I read somewhere about a process using a shell on your PC where you pulled all the needed stuff from the phone, then compiled them into a tar file that you could then use in odin. That sounded like what has to happen. I just spent 10 minutes but can't find the thread now... I saved the link on my netbook which is not in front of me atm. At any rate, I would recommend NOT WRITING anything back to your phone until you're sure you know it's going to work. If you create something and upload it, I can throw it at mine.
Thanks for the interest everyone, I have successfully unbricked my SGH-T959P!!! I finally went with plan '2'.. I bought another one (this solved my urgency issue and got me back into my google account eg: calendar, notes etc. immediately), and it will be returned virtually virgin in a couple days. It was definitely a lot of research, and effort, but I'm extremely happy to have my phone back.
The key to my success was a post on xda where a guy explained how he did a system backup using adb (search for rotobackup), so I did that. It created one big tar file, but when odin tried to send that, it still choked. So I thought to try to send them one by one. I went back and created a separate tar file for each system file (some didn't need to be tarred), and odined them one by one to figure out which ones were okay. I was able to send to the phone: boot.bin, efs.rfs, factoryfs.rfs, modem.bin, paramlfs.rfs, pit.pit, sbl.bin, and zimage. Eventually, the phone booted up like a factory fresh unit! =D After that, the rest was relatively easy. So now I shall keep those files on my PC in case I or someone else needs them.
Thanks to the xda community, wouldn't've had a chance in hell without you guys.

Nice! Congrats...glad u got it fixed. I unfortunately still haven't received my phone... delivery from Canada seems to be slower than I thought You should attach the files to the op anyways or maybe I can do it once I get my phone. Are u still planning to try and find a rom for this phone? Let me know if u have any luck because I haven't been àble to find anything. Kind of bummed that ill have to use 2.2 for a new phone and touchwiz. And the fact that there is no separate section for this phone (not even the telus fascinate 3g+) on here doesn't give me much hope that development support will be coming
Agreed on the lack of popularity. And ya probably nothing can be done about it. I would be interested in rolling our own roms, but I just don't have the time to play with that stuff, so might have to just live with stock and meager samsung updates. We'll see.

Well it seems I'm totally bricked. ryanosman, what order did you flash those files in?
NVM, looks like I got it!
For anyone else, it was a few weeks ago, but I think you use the PDA slot. (PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong.) And I'm quite sure it doesn't matter what order.
I used phone slot. It's the only place the .tar files would show up.
The only thing that seemed critical order wise (the only thing that worked for me anyway) was to install modem last, other wise the phone just sat there vibrating.
Thanks again for the files ryan!

hey rryanosman can you pm me or email me the tar files you used, i am in desperate need.
Thanks
Please send the device to me. I did the UnBrickable mod on the SGH-i959.. I was able to locate the proper combination for UnBrickable mod on the Fascinate without removing the procesor. I'd like to attempt the same on the 959P...
It may be just like the 959, but to be sure I'd like to take a shot at it and do it for free, but you pay shipping. I'll make it UnBrickable if I can.
edit: of course, I'll also unbrick the device and release a Heimdall One-Click for restoration to stock with a 959P.
Argggg, I am about to give up.
finally Got it to boot no modem function, not sure if all files are good, so i seen you post that you took the backup of all the files from the phone and got yours back up and running, just the person i needed to talk to, someone with all the files and not the collection from sever places to make up all the files i needed..
Where could i get my hands on them files as well.. Mine is messed, and i have tried everything. I have even restored it to boot up, and it has no Radio working in it Wifi works just no Packet Data and no IMEI in my phone, and tried several other modem files, etc. WOuld be nice to just have a copy of actual T959P firmware right from a working phone. I download several roms that say compelete to only extract, and there is 4 or more files missing from them. But if i can get that backup you made it would be much appricated.
if you need to i can set up free access to my servers FTP, and give you an account. You can use it as you wish as my account is unlimited..

Which file goes to which section in odin?
How did you remove root from a loaner phone?
That was the reason I wanted to flash the phone in the first place.

[Q] HELP! Need to Root NS4g w/o computer! pwease? 8)

I'm not new to android whatsoever.. I've just returned from an Iphone 4s cause i was missing the openess of android. Now.. i've pulled out my old Nexus S 4g, Updated it to 4.0.4 and i cant get it to connect to my computer for the life of me! tried 4 different cables, 5 different computers, every driver i could find and nothing. I've come to believe this is a software failure... All i need is root and i will be able to sleep at night. Could someone package up .zip to give root and twrp recovery that i could flash through stock recovery? I dont know else i could do to get root... but this problem is becoming quite annoying.
1. There is no way to package a zip to flash through stock recovery since it would have to be signed.
2.For someone who is "not new to android whatsoever" making 2 threads about the same topic 2 minutes apart isn't exactly acting the part.
Try this guide.
Actually you're wrong, On the Epic 4G someone did in fact manage to do so. And yeah since i'm not new to these forums i understand that stuff like this gets overlooked so i made two posts. Cry me a river.
BTW Thanks harb... but that would involve being able to connect to my PC. Which just is not possible right now.
Thats the Android Karma... it happens but a little advice.
If you can't connect to the computer then it might a hardware issue not software.
If getting root was that easy that you just had to flash a zip on stock then everyone would be doing it. And good luck getting root without unlocking your bootloader first. Not to be rude but the problem could possibly be between the computer and the chair.

It's ok, not rude. I understand what you are saying... but did you not read what i just said? somebody had accomplished this on the Epic 4G and i'm just trying to find someone who has done it with the NS4G.. I've had 4 Android devices, rooted them all and been here since the beginning. It's not a hardware problem, it connected fine before when it was on gingerbread... i downloaded the OTA ICS then flashed through stock recovery.. but if you read what i said in the first post this problem only occured AFTER updating. This is why i quit using XDA a long time ago, because people just post a bunch of useless information instead of trying to help... The problem is not me my friend, its the damned ICS update, i've read multiple posts all over the interweb w/ people who have had the same problem, yet no resolutions other than bending up the micro usb male piece on my phone which is not the problem as i said it was working fine before i updated. Have tried multiple samsung drivers, pda net, and Android SDK Drivers, multiple Cords from samsung, to htc, to blackberry and palm pre and even a nokia one now. and 5 different computers... so tell me smart guy, what would you do?

Bro... Chill... They're just trying to help you out. There is NO way to to root your NS without a computer (currently. We are not Epic 4G owners here). You said you didn't use your NS since GB, SO during the time in between something could have happened to the hardware. Don't rule that out just yet. Your drivers might also be bad. Is this what migrating to iOS does to people? Makes them snobby and demand fixes to problems they can't figure out on their own? Don't hate on the XDA forums. If we're not helping you "hit the thanks button anyways, you ungrateful bastard" (XDA into video ). Anywho. Chill. Keep trying.
Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
Paranoid (14.a Hybrid - 4.0.4)
Matrix Kernel (CFS - 20.0)
Intellidemmand (800/100)
Live OC (105 - 800/1000)
Deep Idle (On - Noop)
BLX - 96 (Inverted Apps)
I am chill, i am just trying to describe what I've already done so maybe someone could suggest something else. And no what i meant is i downloaded the OTA on my computer than transferred it onto my Nexus through USB mount a couple of days ago so i know its not a hardware issue. Im not demanding fixes, just trying to see if anyone has done been able to figure this out yet as i know im not the only one with this issue. And there is a big problem w/ people on the XDA forums as a whole.. i am a little frustrated and just dont like when someone is telling me is a User issue when i have tried everything conceivable and know what i am doing.. Sorry if this offended you. and IOS is a good device.. its just like.. NWO they want to control everything haha. I'd rather be part of the rebel faction. even though i love my ipad XD
There is currently no way to root 4.0.4 without an unlocked bootloader (and no custom recovery), and the only way to get an unlocked bootloader is to either have root or plug it into the PC and unlock via fastboot. As such, you are stuck with sorting out drivers - despite how annoying they are.
The video i linked to above describes in detail (and through video) exactly how to sort out NS drivers on Windows machines as well as the required fastboot commands to get a custom recovery.

Yes that is a good video, and does a job well done in describing on how to install drivers. My main issue is that my Computer(s) are'nt recognized my device at all... It doesn't show up as android device, or nexus s... but Unknown device. If i could figure this out i believe i could handle the rest.

Pretty sure that video describes that. You need to open up device manager, double click unknown device (while device is in fastboot), hit update driver and navigate to the provided drivers on the site. Watch it a few times, you'll figure it out.
Have you tried to install PDANet? I've read numerous times about it working wonders for users who have trouble with drivers. It has all of the necessary drivers built in.

yes i second that,PDANet Drivers usually work across all devices you should try them.
Like ppl said before, try PdaNet drivers it might help.
thanks everyone, , but like i said i tried pretty much every driver you can find online. they will not install as my device comes up as "Unknown", i've literally tried every piece of literature on the web relating to this issue... at this point i'm just going to wait for the JB update and see what happens.

So the ICS update makes you unable to boot to fastboot and makes your device unable to be recognized by your computer from there?
That's a new one. As far as I know, "Unknown device" is actually your device being recognized, just the driver doesn't get installed correctly.
Have you tried manually specifying which driver to install and selecting the PDA Net driver? Look at Harbb's last post.
Have you went as far as editing the drivers inf to match your hardware ID? I know I had to do that way back when the PDA net drivers weren't even available.
'til then, user error.

I swear you people don't listen, look i did everything in the video exact when i try to manually specify the driver it comes back saying that the folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible driver for your device... I'm not an imbecile and know how to follow instructions on a video. I know most people skip research cause they're too lazy to figure it out themselves... i posted on here as a last resort and feel like people are telling me what i already know then telling me its my fault, ridiculous. if you guys are just going to repeat what the last five people have said instead of trying to offer a new soloution then why even bother posting?
Epic 4G could do this in FROYO... It was patched by google in 2.3+. Do you want an app to secretly root you and install malware?

Well it is going to be basically one of two things.
1. Is user error of some sort. That is what people have been trying to help with.
2. Is hardware issue that no one can help you with of course. Or some software issue causing it to not show up for who knows what reason. Neither of which folks can help with since a computer is not seeing it. So they revert back to what they can. Point 1
When you asked a question like is there a zip that you can flash in stock recovery to give you root or custom recovery that also doesn't help your cause for people assuming user error.
The one other thing you can try is download mode and Odin.

Cool. Trash your Nexus S, clearly broken.
Edit: That's nice of you albundy, but Mr grumpySasquatch (fitting name eh?) has tried everything, including modding the drivers inf. His Nexus S is broken beyond repair, also the first one we've ever seen that won't adb but works fine for USB mounting. *chuckle*

Mobile Odin

There isn't a thread for this for our phone, so I thought I would make one seeing as i've tried it. A program called mobile odin https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.mobileodin.pro&feature=nav_result Will allow you to run odin from your device without connecting it to your computer. Its super simple to use and it works pretty well. My charging port is hosed so I can't connect it anyways. I was on ICS and needed to go back to GB. Had to use this app and got back on GB no problem. I don't see a free version of the app anywhere so depending on how much you use odin, 5 bucks might be a good investment.
Hmm I ran the program and sent the logs a few months ago and never heard anything back to get our device supported and still doesn't say it supports this device.
It takes 30 minutes to run the system dump to find out our device isn't compatible......after running the dump....and to find out it wouldn't work
Its not worth the hassle when you've only got 15 minutes to get the refund.
I'd like to see screenshots or something to show that this actually does officially work on our device ....considering its not on the list of compatible devices.
Thanks
I guess after 2 days without a response ....there's not going to be one?
To bad I was hoping that it was going to be worth the money
Too bad I'm stuck on ics as well got excited when I started reading this thread.

??? Anything???
Or is this just a bogus post....and in the wrong section....should have went in themes and apps
A search would show that XDA members gets a lite version as with lots of other apps for free.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
Ive run it.....it generates a dump file (mobileodin.txt) that you send in and hope that he incorperates your device in the next update .....and since it does this ...it basically is not suported as of yet.
So the op is saying it works.....but in fact it doesnt.
I would like to see some evidence that it works for him and like to know how it does on his device and not on mine.
Also with the lite version you have to dl a flash kernal specific to your device from that same thread....but since our device is not suported...you wont find one.
Y'all should do alot more reading before posting links to something that doesnt suport our device.
i did read that thread thuroughly....very thuroughly, even flashed a few flash kernals he added that were for the other models similar to ours in great hopes of getting this to work.
This is what you get....it does take about 30 minutes to generate the text file to send in
Oh magda623....are you there?
we are awaiting your reply.
Im sure there is hundreds of us that would like to have this running on our phones...please let us know how to make it work.
Ok ok i give up on magda to humor us on how it works on his device.
I urge everyone to use the link a couple posts up and dl the mobile odin lite, run it and send your mobileodin.txt to chainfire and plead with him to include our device....im sure he will eventually get our message.....after all he does say he is only working on samsung devices at this time.
****wouldnt it be awsome to flash back and forth from mtd to bml roms without ever having hook up to your comp!!!****
Lol am i seriously the only one that finds this to be something that would make life amazing on the sgs4g?
new ealsjur
Mobile ODIN did not recognize the device when I was on CM9
Something about flashing the phone from the phones makes me uneasy. What if you need to repartition using a pit or something, while the phone is on and in use.
Btw short I sent a dump file a long time ago and have been retrying ever since with no luck so far, maybe I'll make another dump today after work

I've stayed out of this one for just that reason. It's bad enough to be messing with the underpinnings of an OS when you don't have true single-user mode, a "safe" boot, kernel, and emergency filesystem available, nor alternate boot media if things go really bad. Doing all that from user-land while the system is running all services sounds like just asking for trouble.
You can do most of what you are asking for in Recovery
Flash kernel/boot/recovery
Flash /system
Flash other run-time partitions
Flash modem
If you can't get into recovery, are you really able to run some Android program?
I'm not really seeing the need for this, except for people who have broken their USB connector and can't connect to a computer. Even then, when would you need ODIN? When things are so hozed up you need to start from scratch, yes, but if you have a broken USB, what are you doing flashing risky things?
If someone can show what this would do that you can't do in recovery, as well as a meaningful use case for it, I'll mull over how to do it. Basically, if an app can do it, a script in recovery sure should be able to as well.
I tend to think the reason we dont have support is because of the quirkiness of this phone.
I agree eollie ....I gave up on this a while ago...really it doesn't matter to me anyhow....I mostly thought it was a great idea.
I don't tend to have issues with flashing...or recovering.
And even if I did....I wouldn't be dumb enough to post here lmao.

[Q] Deployed, need JB update

I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan, and will be for about another 7 months still. When I left, JB still was not released for Verizon SGIII owners. I do not wish to root this phone, as it does pretty much everything I need or want it to. Is there any way that I can somehow download the update to my pc, then save it to the phones SD card, and force the update that way? I'm trying to use a local sim card so I can use this phone instead of a cheap throw away, but after talking to Verizon, they say I won't be able to as I am still on baseband I535VRLHE. I have wi-fi here, but it is a staggering 256k, and isn't enough to download the update directly to the phone. Thanks in advance for any help.
Sure can, just follow step 5 of this guide (you want the K3 release) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709 The release is big, i think 1.2 gigs so you will probably be downloading it for a couple days Where abouts are you over there? My brother just got back from Peacemaker

It will work, pretty much what you are doing is flashing the stock everything, same thing a verizon associate would do in the back room
This is how all of us who root/unlock/flash roms go back to complete stock to send in our devices and such.
Alright, have the file downloaded. Took awhile, but not as long as I thought. However, I don't believe I have the correct driver installed as ODIN isn't recognizing the device. The download link in the link provided pops up with an error each time I try it....Where can I find the correct drivers? Without installing Kies

This should work, just click the "Software" tab at the bottom.
There it goes....and now, the moment of truth...
Any luck?
Thanks!!! It works!! Thankfully, I backed up everything to my PC before the install. Now, to cut down my Roshan SIM card. Tested another guys cut down Roshan SIM, and was able to place a call. I am so stoked I can use this phone here now lol. So much better than having to use some crappy phone with actual buttons! lol

Root for the ZTE Avid Trio (Z833) (MetroPCS)?

Okay, I know I don't post much in XDA, but I do read a LOT of threads!
The reason I am posting this is because I am wondering if anybody achieved root on this phone.
I have tried KingRoot, KingoRoot, OneClickRoot, none of those work.
It is running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
I am about to screw around with ADB, see what I can do. I'll post back when I have got something.
Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, I don't post much on XDA.
any luck?
I've tried every root method available without the PC and nothing. But, there maybe good news. In developers options there's a switch to unlock the bootloader. Now I'm no dev but I hope this makes cwm or tarp easy for devs to port and root.
I found https://mobile.twitter.com/srsroot/status/810325782417592325?lang=en srsroot claims it supports ZTE Z833. I've used srsroot once before but on another phone I have no PC so I can't test it but someone should test Cydia impactor see if it works.

1. I too saw that twitter SRSRoot business and tried it thinking, "Oh joy!" no, not working. Tried it every way you could (yes Kingo, KingRoot, vRoot, iRoot, FramaRoot, uRoot, & we-all_Root (the last two were jokes don't be so serious, nor was it a complete list of what I did actually try, ha!) too). I even wrote the people at SRSRoot telling them that it didn't work and have gone back to download their latest versions, still nada, zip, zero. FML on toast!
2. Cydia Impactor is not for Android devices, it is only for iOS. I went and double-checked just to make sure I wasn't trippin' thinking that maybe they have gone cross-platform. No, they have not.
3. I have the phone in question, I submitted a formal request on here in the best way I could find to get it added to the XDA devices list and I have been eagerly monitoring awaiting the day it happens. I was even considering trying to compile TWRP myself, but I just bought a different phone because I was tired of the headache. I couldn't figure out how to extract the zImage from it in order to give it a go (I think that's what it was). Anyways, I'm writing this before finishing reading the rest of the posts and may be rambling, but I had to respond. I have spent much time doing this. I ended up buying a different MetroPCS phone called the Samsung Galaxy On5 and was able to successfully root it and after much waiting finally got ahold of the Superstarz ROM that finally went out for that one. Just an FYI in case someone happens to see this before making the purchase. I will say that I feel like the ZTE Avid Trio Z833 has pretty good response time for such a cheap phone, then again they had a deal on it in the store, it looked to be more expensive at retail pricing. Anyhow, I digress, but felt the need to contribute rather than just lurk.
Oh, and another thing... The development option to OEM Unlock is "checkable", but as for actually booting to the bootloader it WILL NOT DO IT. The only way this is gonna happen to be rootable is if you use a custom recovery (which none exist yet) in a tar format and ODIN the friggin thing from download mode. So, there's your catch 22. If anyone knows how to extract the zImage and whatnot (without root obviously) I'd be more apt to give it a go and boot my happy bunghole into Linux and give compiling TWRP another go. I finally have had a lot of life stresses temporarily die down since I decided not to leave my current living situation and just stay with these irritating bastards another month at a higher rate. FML & Cheers!: good:
I should mention, however, that SRSRoot attempted to use it's "Exploit 8." So, I went digging into it's directories to see what the script was, but it was binary (and I didn't have reverse-engineering **** handy like PE-ID, and whatever else the kids are using in this newer age). So, I was like "wah-wah", but if any experienced ppl know more about the specific exploits that aren't ancient and actually working with Marshmallow that would be interesting to hear feedback about as well. Thanks. I really would like to use this second phone still, but right now I'm just using it as a Kodi/Megabox HD + AllCast Projector to watch streaming things without having to interrupt my working phone in the middle of it. It would also be cool to use as a straight VOIP phone with no cell service connected, but I've yet to find the free Google Voice VOIP loophole that is currently working. PM me if you know of these
P.P.S. I wrote another spicy post on hardr3set dot info about what crap I felt about their B.S. (weaksauce compared to anything legit which we all know you come to XDA for the meat-and-potatoes) because I was so tired of searching the Goog for root ZTE Avid Trio Z833 and having it be the top result over and over. Finally this has risen up. Thank you for starting this. Oh, and also, please... If you would kindly also request for this device to be added formally, maybe it would encourage development. Not sure how all that works, but yeah... power in numbers right?
Sincerely,
~Ye of little faith
Bump
are you telling me that faults advertising runs ramped all over the internet even Google play store and this is the nondoing phone ever made and it can't be jailbroke nor rooted
Rooting your zte device
Can not be done. This phone is an unfortunate accident by ZTE with numerous problems and they are not small issues but ones that affect the performance of the device. Replace that phone or your only adding to your daily stress.
That kingroot and oneclickroot don't work
For this phone
a
Guessing this is a dead issue? It's an okay phone but lags horribly when it comes to multi tasking
Hey I don't want the root thing to die on this topic. So would it be possible to root via ADB update in recovery mode? Or to somehow update via SD card and applying root? I refuse to give up hope on this device lol
Anyone made progress on this? I just got this phone and it definitely has some issues, but I feel like root would resolve most of them.
Has anyone figured out a way to root this device?
I've searched for a long time without success. I hope something comes up.
Any progress on this? Thanks
following, bought one this morning hoping to have a cheap rootable phone.
I got mine from MetroPCS for $29. lol Yes, it's frustrating and has got problems (I've already put two of them through my dashboard and had to replace them, within the first 2 months, but it only cost 30buck so WTH. Anyways, I decided after I destroyed #2 that I was only going to use it for work and add no apps to it, except maybe GasBuddy and Winamp. Other than that, it's stock and I haven't had any real problems with it to speak of (problems aggravating enough to make me want to destroy it yet again).
So my suggestion to anyone who owns this phone, or is thinking about owning one: Don't install any more than a couple small apps, add a 32GB uSD card for music and other stuff, and use the thing as a phone and a media player only. The camera is pretty much worthless for quality photos, so there's really no other use for it. But it makes a great txting, voice calling, and music playing phone!
Of course, if you end up paying more than $30 for it, you probably paid too much. But it sure is a pretty nice phone for 30 buck!
Yes. root it please
I have a Z833. The phone only lags apps that are over 100mb I'll have test this out agin
I have ordered one of these phones for $20 should be here by Monday. When it arrives I'll be able to confirm if its bootloader is unlocked or not. In the meantime here is the firehose and support files (rawprogram0.xml and patch0.xml) as well as the MetroPCS B16 firmware to be flashed with QFIL or MiFlash. This will allow people to recover their device and hopefully if the bootloader isn't locked flash custom images.
