Not sure where my previous thread went, I didn't think it broke any rules?
So we have the latest WW update now and it still doesn't fix the SOD issue, do we not have any legal rights against ASUS? Why are we just accepting it? Yes, we have custom ROMs which attempt to fix the issues that ASUS can't, but even those aren't successful.
Every time I come to use my tablet it's either in a SOD or the battery is completely drained, when I was on HC I was able to get 5 days standby pretty easily and not once do I recall it rebooting or having any other issues.
ASUS turn a deaf ear when I try to get an answer from them on their Facebook page, either ignoring me or deleting my posts entirely, I suppose the next step would be to start an RMA request to see where that gets me but I honestly don't think it's something their the RMA centre can resolve as it's affecting so many Transformers.
I'm really frustrated with the whole thing, my Android phone works flawlessly, an SGS on 4.0.3, but my tablet is such a nightmare! It's really soured the experience, so much so that I don't think I would want another, add to that, I don't think I will buy another ASUS product due to the lack of support they've given me (I'm only 6 months into a 12 months warranty as well).
I too an saddened by my transformer's performance as of late. Mine is getting worse I think, Not sure if it's because of the flashing different ROMS or not. I've only really flashed two different ROMS. EOS and AOKP.
Now after a fresh flash my tab just freezes with the screen on, touch inputs do nothing, the screen is frozen. I will force it to shut off and it will not turn back on, or it does turn on in some way but nothing on the screen appears, I have to leave it for a day to drain the battery.
Since ICS I do not even use it, I can't. Really saddened, it could be a great device but it is now just slightly better than useless. End of rant.
So I got a refurb tf300 from Woot the other day and it looked and worked like brand new until the touch screen stopped working completely. Left it be for a couple hours and came back to find it working. This happens a couple times a day, it stops and then it starts working. I can occasionally get it to start working again if I flip the device around any which way but there is most certainly an issue with the hardware. I have a feeling it might be some sort of loose touch screen issue.
To make matters worse, I unlocked the bootloader and rooted it to run CleanRom (great ROM BTW!)
I've heard Asus's RMA service is a nightmare (especially with it unlocked) so I wanted to check in and see if anyone has heard of this or has any ideas of how to fix it. Since it's clearly hardware related I can probably have them fix it but don't want to be out a tablet for six weeks.
Have already tried a handful of cold boots per recommendations online.
Cheers
Z
I got this Tablet on Xmas. I rooted and updated, 1st thing, and began experiencing sleep of death (won't wake from sleep and you have to long press the power button to power down, then power back up the tablet again). I thought it might be due to rooting so I went back to the factory image through fastboot, flashing the original OS, recovery and everything and I still get sleep of death on this thing. I've got a new one coming from Tigerdirect but I'm wondering if this issue is common or not. I'm hoping not cause I can't find much info on it online. Thanks for any info.

I've been having this issue stock, no root. I feel like Nvidia left out some polishing. But I will say that I didn't have this issue before the 5.0.1 update.
I suspect constant sleep death to be a physical fault of some shield tablets. My first tablet had it occasionally, but my RMA replacement has never had it. Ever.
That being said, sleep death can be caused by some apps, too. Try to diagnose it assuming its an app running wild, if you cant track it down contact nvidia for a replacement.

Yep, I had this issue only after updating to 5.0.1 stock, no root. But after a few reboot cycles, the issue resolved itself.
I do not have this issue - its a LTE purchased on blackFriday. In fact I have NEVER had even a single app crash. I just rooted last week and no issues their either (on 5.01).
Have you tried doing a clean install?
Load CWM - Format all partitions
Then flash NVIDIA 1.2 recovery Image
Then upgrade to 5.01 (direct upgrade now - 5.0 is no longer an incremental from OTA).
if it still does this after a full wipe then I would suspect its hardware related.
Thanks for the input. I have formatted everything and the issue still persisted, I never did try staying on kitkat though. Is Kitkat still best for this tablet? I see a lot of people down on lollipop. I wonder if it would have worked itself out but a new one is on the way already. I just hope it's as good as this one in terms of light bleed and cracked corners. The one I have has the most minimal of bleeds in one corner and no cracks whatsoever.
You reformatted and reloaded 501 full?
I reflashed the Nvidia recovery image (1.2 KitKat) and it performed like a dog in comparison to 5.01... So I re-upgraded back to 5.01.
5.01 has a few glitches (battery stats, battery life in general, Graphical Corruption) but in general I have no stability issues and have no issues while its in a deep sleep.
Have you tried turning off wifi when the tablet is sleeping? Leaving WiFi running while in deep sleep seems to be a culprit of various issues. Try that..

I've tried everything you mentioned and more. Believe me, I wanted to keep this thing but nothing seems to work.

I had the exact same problem. Factory reset did not resolve. Contacted Nvidia support and they told me to return for replacement. Thankfully I purchased mine through Amazon and they sent me a new one right away. No problems with the new tablet. I love this tablet!

Even though the solution seems to be getting a replacement, I'll post my scenario here in case it helps anyone identify their problem:
I have been having this sleep of death issue since I got the tablet with KitKat back in October, and it has persisted through the upgrade to Lollipop. It happens almost every other day at least. I have always run completely stock, no root or anything.
I've noticed this same issue on my tablet as well. It's not very frequent (maybe once every couple days). It is my 1st RMA, and I dont recall it happening before the 5.0.1 upgrade. If the next update doesn't fix the issue I will probably go for my 2nd RMA.
mine does it. It's infrequent, but it does it. Running 5.0.1.
Yea I have this problem on mine, I got mine the week the tablet came out so I am not surprised there are some faults here and there with mine.
Update
Got my replacement Shield from tigerdirect and haven't experienced the issue in the 3 days I've used it (knocks on wood). Running lollipop just like the previous tablet, same apps installed through TBU. The last one I had would sleep of death about 2-3 times a day or more depending on use. Very happy with the product now I wish all my android devices were so smooth. My Transformer infinity is now nothing but a Netflix machine during cardio at the gym.
Unsure if this is valid info or not but on the 1st tablet I rooted using towelroot on kitkat, then used flashify to boot cwm and installed lollipop through cwm. On the new/2nd tablet I upgraded to lollipop through normal software updates, then unlocked bootloader and rooted. I don't think this makes a difference as I flashed back to factory image and stock bootloader on the 1st tablet, then upgraded using the same process I did on the 2nd and still got sleep of death. It seems to be a hardware related issue but thought I'd share anyhow.
Have same problem on my tablet. I think this is more software problame than hardware. All my hopes too new update/
I am having this same problem. I am totally stock LTE model. Trying to single out an app but it is doing it multiple times a day sometimes which makes it difficult to single out an app that could be the culprit(that and not being rooted). Hoping they release an upgrade soon.
Edit: this sleep of death problem did not occur before 5.0.1 BTW.
I had the problem from the start in August, when I got it. actually quite annoying and frequently. Resolved when I did a factory reset on the last 4.4 OTA. After upgrading to 5.0 I have had performance issues and some sleep of deaths again. But I did not come around to do a factory reset again since I am too lazy to back everything up . I am not sure if it is solely hardware related since at least for me, the factory reset cleared my problems once...
Mine only SODs when I change the performance mode and don't reboot, if I reboot after changing the performance mode it's fine.

I have it also.. On 5.0.1 here.. But I solved it when I installed "ultimate on off" I think it prevent the device to be on deep sleep.. Ultimate on off helps me with the annoying power button..
seems like I fixed it
I think I narrowed it down to the app Tegra Zone. It had crashed a few times but the service was still running in the background. Uninstalled and my battery is lasting a bit longer and it hasn't wake locked on me in over 24 hours. The service is probably gimping the tab in the background.
I sent my LG G2 back to LG some months ago as the top of the screen was unresponsive and the screen was starting to get unglued. It was right before my warranty ended. When I got it back, as my warranty was already expired I decided to root the phone (using stump), but I kept the stock rom. Actually the only reason I rooted my phone was to install jishnu's camera mod as I wanted better quality pics and 4k video (and that never happened as I never got to see the lg g2 version of it).
After a couple months, my phone started rebooting with no apparent reason. After a week of this shenanigans, I woke up one morning to a bootloop. I was able to get it in download mode, so I tried flashing the original stock to undo the rom using the LG flash tool method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663369), but It didn't go through because it said it was a different version of the phone. I even try with the alternative dll provided in the post with no luck.
Two days later, after fighting tirelessly with the phone, I was able to get into recovery (twrp). At this point, I installed a Rom (slimkat) and that seemed to fix the problem. Then, a couple days later my phone started doing the same stuff again. Most of the time, the reboots were quick and it only bootlooped every now and then, and finally going into android. It get's really hot around the camera though.
Today it's absolutely stuck in a boot loop and won't go into recovery. I was able to pull the logs a couple days ago right after a reboot.
I would really appreciate if anyone could look into them and tell me what's wrong and if it's possible to fix. My biggest fear is it is hardware related (which would suck because it basically just came back from being serviced).
Except for these last episodes, it's the best phone I ever had. I love the quality of the pics, the size, the screen and I was hoping not having to upgrade for a couple years.
Thanks in advance.
(I removed the Logs because even though I scrubbed personal data from them, I still got 16 downloads and not a single reply related to them, and just to be safe, I will minimize the chances of anything going sour)
Have the same issue. It just started going in bootlops. Sometime I can get a few hours of use if I am lucky but no matter what I do (diff roms, baseband, lg flash tool to original firmware) bootloop will not go away.
Seems like something many people are experiencing after a year.
Let me know if you figure it out
My Pixel 7 Pro has started to randomly shut down every so often. Completely out of the blue, the screen will just go black and I need to long-press the power button to turn it back on. This started happening a couple of days ago. No idea why.
I don't know if there's any correlation, but this started happening after the December update.
Is anyone else seeing this, too? Any thoughts on what could cause this and how to remedy it?
Thanks!

No, but I know who can fix it for free, because it's a brand new phone that's still under warranty...
Of course I'll reach out to Google, but I wanted to see if anyone else is seeing this, too.
Will google cover when it is bought at Virgin Megastore?

Have you backed up to Google one and done by a reset?
A reset might solve your problem?
I've read on GitHub that it's an issue with the 5g hand over to LTE on the T-Mobile network.. I had the same issue until I switch to use LTE and it's not shut off since. Hopefully Google is aware and it gets fixed

This issue exists from October...
After December update more users reportthing this
Pixel 7 pro freezes and reboots - Google Pixel Community
This happened to me this morning. American Verizon service with December update installed.
Happening to me even on custom ROM. I'm really wondering if this is an actual hardware issue rather instead of the OS issue.

The december beta had this problem so it might apply to the stable one as well, I suggest you update to the stable january build.

If they're based on the december build it might be due to the kernel (the december build had some issues), since I updated to the january build I did not have any other random reboot.

I tried updating to TQ1A.230105.002 today which I think is the latest stable Jan build..? And just got the random shutdown again.

I'd suggest to do a full factory reset while flashing all partitions, that's what I did and I don't have this issue anymore, otherwise it could very well be a hardware issue, but doing a full wipe is worth a try.

I did do a full factory reset before flashing.. I was surprised to still have the shutdown issue as well since it must be a hardware issue then.. but it's so weird that a hardware issue would just randomly surface without dropping the device or anything at all..? Or could it be that the January Stable Build still has the software issue? I'll reach out to Support tomorrow.. for now I'm going to try putting it in my pocket with the screen facing up and not towards my leg and seeing if that makes a difference.
I didn't have this issue, i updated to the January patch and everything was ok, now today my phone started to shutting down tl not sure what is going on
I have the same problem since yesterday. Every time I block the phone and put it in my pocket, the next time I get it it's turned off. I'm sure the pocket isn't pressing any button, but it keeps powering off. I bought it on launch day and I had 0 problems with it until now.
EDIT: Updated applications since yesterday (22 of January): Google, IFTTT and my bank application.
EDIT2: I've just tested to use it on Safe Mode, and I got the same behaviour. I suspect it must be some screen or screen sensor problem... of maybe It has something to do with the fingerprint sensor.
EDIT3: After triple-checking (my phone was in the December update) it finally has updated to the January one. I'll update with more feedback after update.
I changed to only LTE and for some time it was not shutting down. Since pixel pro doesn't have a cache partition like others phones i opened the "files app from Google" and i cleaned the junk files , i rebooted the phone and since then i have no issues at all. Maybe is a coincidence but it's working for some days without shutting down

I had the same issue on the december beta, after wiping the device fully and flashing the january stable this issue disappeared; some users also reported this on GrapheneOS on previous Pixels so I just think it's a bug that went unnoticed.
I started having this issue after the February 5th Update. After reading through this thread it got me into thinking. I couldn't reproduce the issue into safe mode, I uninstalled new 3rd party apps and that didn't fix it. However, disabling the flip to shhh setting did! So disabling the sensor for when your phone is placed upside down to silence the phone seems to have resolved the problem for me. Let me know if this fixes it for others.
So same problem here, random shut downs while in my pocket, long press to power up, temperature check and no over heating. After a couple of chat sessions with FI support which were worthless, finally spoke to Google support and they seemed to be convinced that there is a problem, I think they know. They agreed to a replacement and awaiting a new phone from Google, we shall see.
