Did a search but couldn't find a similar post - apologies if there is.
On 4.0..4 BTU - rooted. Found that recently my predictive text and swipe to text do not work. Switching them off then on makes no difference. Tried clearing data, and replacing the SamsungIme.apk but cannot get the predictive text/swipe to work at the moment.
Has anyone else seen this.been affected by this and found a solution.
If could not be solved try go keyboard (third party keyboard free from google play and has alot of themes)

I like the stock keyboard. Haven't found a 3rd party keyboard I truly like as much. It was working, something has broken it but not sure what.
So may be try flashing stock again via odin from a site like www.samfirmware.com but you could lose your data
If you are rooted and has cwm try first clear cash and dalvik and fix permissions from cwm

Had already relashed stock and was not working. Not willing to risk losing data, cleared data for keyboard anyway.. dis rest, still not working. Probably some app causing a problem I'll have to identify - thanks anyway
The predictive text stuff saved in /system/T9DB. Make sure your language listed in /system/csc/language.xml . In my case Indonesian support in JB OTA, my language not supported by Samsung keyboard by default. I have to add "id" value to language.xml, clear Samsung keyboard data and reboot.

Flashing a firmware using Odin with auto reboot disabled, force off the device and then flashing CWM recovery is the way to break Samsung keyboard predictive text and the integrated Swype support.

I use mobile odin. Swype works, to a point. it draws the line, just doesn't get the input. So is there a way to fix this?

I should add that after rooting, I tried CM9 and 10 with mobile odin, before using MO Pro to reflash the stock 4.0.4 rom.

Extract cache.img from the firmware package, upload it somewhere and I'll repackage it as CWM update to fix your predictive text problem. Swype will not work without predictive text enabled.
Many thanks for your kind offer.. I have found on here the relevant missing folders but I will up load the cache img file tomorrow for you..,,
Check your PM's - Thanks

hi i have ICS RC7.4 installed with a VKL1 modem flash to be used on tmobile.
my problem is that the google voice recognition keeps showing me the tutorial/welcome screen instead of going directly to the voice input screen which means i have to press the microphone button before i can talk ..ohh how frustrating. i checked the settings but there is no option do disable the welcome screen. interestingly enough this behavior seems random sometimes the tutorial screen comes up sometimes it just works like it should.
Is anyone else experiences this or knows how to fix ?
thx - phil
If you are running a ROM then you should ask your dev to include GV as sys apk
Or drag the Google voice apk to the system folder before you flash it and not bother the dev with something you can do yourself.

thx for the replies.
is there a way todo this without flashing? or can i just "re flash" my ICS over the current one with the apk in the system folder without loosing any settings/data.
litte noobish here sorry....i made the swap from iphone to droid like 4 days ago. so far i have a custom rom, flashed modem, rooted and unlocked.... its a steep learning curve and im loving it!
There's a way to do it without wiping but it's complicated and youbhave to fix permission and stuff. I think if your custom rom has a no wipe update you could put it in that one and flash that way. Always backup before modifying.

or you could just copy and past the file from your /data/app folder to /system/app fix permissions and reboot. (you might get fcs as you do this if so reboot then fix permissions and reboot again)
Recently my copy / paste function won't work. When I try to copy text in Chrome, the stock browser or Evernote the app crashes. When in Gmail, stock email app or any other app I can copy but when I go to paste the option to paste doesn't appear. Anyone else experience this? I have a 8013 stock, not rooted.
Thanks!

I'm having the exact same problem. Mine is the 8010 stock not rooted. At first i thought it was because i use Swype. I took Swype off and then i purchased Swift Key for Tablets and still didn't work. I then went to the stock keyboard and same result.
I looked at various foroums and google search and no clear answer to be honest.

I'm not sure, but probably your problem is related with the notorious and infamous clipboard bug.
Here, here and here there's some more info.
did you try clearing the cache as all that you copy is stored in memory and never deleted so maybe it is full and causing the error

Looks like you've hit the nail on the head. Sucks there is no way to fix without a factory reset or rooting. I may try flashing the German JB ROM and see if that wipes the cache clear.
If it were just a cache issue, we'd try to wipe it by using the option included in the bootloader menu......
Was just thinking a cache may work as a stack...... and a stack should abide by the FIFO rule..... if so, it's pretty much unlikely to be full at all.....
Quick update. I used the Exyonus exploit app to root the device. Using Root Explorer I cleared everything in the data/clipboard folder, went back to the exploit app to unroot and the copy / paste function is back and my settings show a stock "normal" device. Took less than 5 minutes and worked like a charm.

Did the dumbest thing.
Accidentally deleted the ICS keyboard that comes with LunarEclipse rom.
Now I have no keyboard and no way to enter text.
I can't reinstall keyboard because I can't sign into playstore. No keyboard to enter details.
Any way to restore keyboard without factory reset?

A factory reset will do nothing for you except wipe all of your personal apps, data, settings, etc.
You have a custom recovery installed?
Just reinstall the ROM (no need to wipe data). Or use adb and push the keyboard apk to your device from your computer (take it out of the ROM.zip). There are many options for you... in theory.
And how do you "accidentally" delete the keyboard? (That's rhetorical, no need to answer..)

Oh if only. I have custom recovery on sd but not installed on the phone since I can't access the file. No file explorer installed. Can't install one without play. Circle of poop.
I did extract the keyboard apk to sd but once again can't access it since LunarEcplise doesn't seem to have a default explorer built it.
And just to answer your curiosity, was deleting apps like gtalk etc when I deleted keyboard without looking.
Should've paid more attention to the small screen than the porn on the big screen. :silly:
Edit: DOH AGAIN! Turns out cm recovery stays in the system even if I hadn't "installed" it in the new rom. Tried to restart in recovery, started straight into cm recovery. Time to flash. Thanks a lot for the tip mate.

OS is froyo 2.2.2, I really can't remember kernel. Maybe it was 2.6.x.
As far as rom is concerned it is 512 MB.
did you root it or have done a recovery cwm
It was rooted. Couldn't get into recovery mode(don't know if it's possible) . And no cwm recovery for it. It's a basic phone with resistive screen. The only way I can make calls is because of the qwerty keys. I removed all unwanted system apps like Gmail, youtube, maps, Facebook, etc.
Easily got it working. Sorry for the late reply (had exams).
If you are stuck like this, try to get into Google search by hardware key (touch screen is useless without launcher), then type settings, here enable installing apps from unknown sources, go to browser by using Google search download adw launcher or Nova launcher or any launcher apk file.
If you have qwerty keypad then get into browser(search key + b) download launcher apk file.
Obsolete.

I tried to create an AOSP-based ROM, but I saw that it was hard. I wanted yto approach you about the matter of creating CM or another cool ROM, and this is the best opportunity. I know there's a CM 11 project, but it was frozen. So, you know.

The method you used to make the S5 Settings APK out of the KK Grand 2 is the same one I used for creating mine.
But, as I told you, I love to share my work.

A new S5 SecSettings.apk that addresses many FCs in the other mod and adds the S5 Lockscreen.
Lockscreen "looks":
Secured lock:
Halftone, Classic, Multicolor patterns
Swipe lock:
None (a little AOSP like)
Stone skipping
Watercolor (S5 default)
Ripple (Standard)
Features:
Three modes: grid, tab, and list
Quick settings
S5 looks everywhere
Lost Download Accelerator and Fingerprints
Fixed Data Usage FC, wrong S4 size, and overscroll FC.
Download link: http://www.mediafire.com/?pewz1cf9fz6kvd3
Install instructions:
1. Open CWM. Get this from my 4.4.2 rooting thread in the themes & apps section.
2. Flash the ZIP.
3. Manually wipe the caches. The installer doesn't do that (forgot because I was in a hurry).

Using a root file manager, delete the file called SecSettings.odex from /system/priv-app.
Also check for possible corruption of SecSettings.apk by opening it and NOT getting a Describe Error.
You can get the stock FW from SamMobile, as I don't have enough data to reupload the FW.
Thanks...need more info.

First of all, you were supposed to delete the SecSettings.odex, not the apk.
WHAT?! NEVER FACTORY RESET A PHONE THIS WAY! THE WAY TO FIX IT WAS TO FLASH WITH ODIN! Anyway, usual suggestions: open package with winrar and check if it opens (even with some error message about a tar record). Then check by reflashing CWM or any other Grand 2 compatible Odin package. Use Odin 3.09, and the stock USB cable. Tell me if this doesn't help. In this case, I'm gonna make a really big sacrifice to get the sstock SecSettings.apk ..
