wrong album art - General Questions and Answers

For some reason, the album art of some songs is wrong as it's taken from another song.
Thankfully it has happened to only 2-3 songs out of the 600 I have on my SD card. In one case the album name is the same between two songs, so that might be one of the reasons although there are cases where the album names aren't the same and it still happens.
It seems to happen to the same songs.
I tried deleting the album cache and sometimes it resolves it, others no.
I'm using a Samsung Galaxy 3 i5800 with Froyo 2.2, using the default music player.
My cousin has a Samsung Galaxy Portal with Eclair 2.1 and has the same problem, although to him it happens to almost all the songs.
Any way to resolve this?
Thanks.

Anyone knows how to solve the problem?

Bump.

Problems adding music to device?

Hi everyone,
Just got my Pro yesterday and generally loving it - with one major problem though.... I can't seem to add music to the device.
If I dump them straight on the memory card then TF3D music tab says "No Music Found", if I sync them over WMP11 to the device then it shows them - but no album art and their durations are all zero seconds. WMP won't play them either. They're just in MP3 format and play fine everywhere else.
Help?
In the TF3d music tab, click on the Library softkey. You should be able to find them in there (under artists, albums, etc). Once you select a song, it will then load into the TF3d music tab. Hope that helps.
Thanks, I can get them to show there but without album art and the duration is zero seconds... WMP Mobile shows an error "access denied" when i try to play them there, if that helps.
I have no problem accessing my mp3s, but I did not use WMP11 to sync them.
I just copied mp3s right onto my microSD card, separated into folders by album (eg: \Music\artist1\album1\song.mp3), with a folder.jpg image for the album art. TF3d/Library recognized the files and the album art with no problem.
Hmmn, tried that, still the same thing. Just hard reset the device and still a no-go. This is beginning to really bug me very badly (like sending the device back kinda bad).
Double post to update:
So, I find that I can add WMA files without a problem. So at least I have a viable work-around for the problem. This doesn't actually help me sort out what the problem regarding mp3s actually is.
I thought it may be something to do with the File Associations, that I broke them somehow by installed Coreplayer, but I'm less sure now that a Hard Reset didn't solve the problem. It still could be, I see others have had similar problems relating to the registry (although their problems always came after installation of a different media player, rather than on the devices stock ROM). Does anyone know where the pertinent registry values are, and what they should be? Or perhaps others have some different solutions?

Have you tried soft resetting and deleting the file
\Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\AudioManager_Eng.vol
before switching to the TouchFlo Music tab?
Found I've had to rebuild my library in this way each time new mp3s have been added.
(I assume the mp3 aren't DRM protected - copied a number over myself by mistake which caused a similar problem.)
Probably a silly question,
When i synced my phone with Windows media player 11, all the tracks went across but not the artwork. Having looked in the folders on my pc, i see that the folder has an image, but there is no image file to transfer to the TPro. How do i get the artwork across and does this have to be a manual process.
If the album art is in the folder and named folder.jpg it automatically picks them up ardsar.
Thanks for that Lazy Slug, I'll give it a go.

Fancy seeing you here, and sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread, it's a great forum eh!
im using vista with wmp v. 11 and wmp cannot see my touchpro even if it is connected (via bluetooth). i've got no problems syncing mails, calendars, etc. i just cant seem to sync audio files using wmp.
thanks.
Well, my problem is sorted (kinda). I backed up my mp3's to a different external hardrive, something has happened in that process that means they only work on my PC - my PS3 can no longer stream them, my N82 can't play them, my Touch Pro can't either. I'm still trying to work out how to fix them (although when I have time I'll dig up my old drive and see whether they work from there). So good news: nothing wrong with my PS3, N82, Touch Pro.
Regarding your issue dido-11 - have you set up the Touch Pro to sync in WMP11? Instructions are in the manual for how to, if you haven't already tried.
NZtechfreak: indeed, it's in the manual. sorry, quite excited to use it right away without looking at the manual.
fhsieh: thanks, ill try that method as well.

Did you try to reencode one mp3 in standard 128 (not VBR) and see if is played?
They're all constant bitrate, they work when converted to WMA. I don't think its a problem with encoding though, since they worked fine with everything previously.

I am syncing my music with Windows Media Player 11 - it syncs over fine and the image art is there when playing the music in the windows media player on the fuze, but not present in the cover flow app. Where are these images stored? There are no jpgs in the directories where the MP3s are.

Music Player -Not enough space in Music Database

Hello everyone,
Looking for a solution to an issue with the Music Player I have stumbled across within the first couple days of using the Captivate.
I have an external 16GB sd card filled with mp3s that has ~2GB free. When opening Music Player I find all of my files are there, but if I try switching to "Artists" view the application will close and I will get the message "Not Enough Space in Music Database". My internal sd card does not have any media on it so this card is nearly 100% empty.
It's pretty annoying not having the ability to sort by artists as you could imagine.
Sorry if this has been covered already, but I couldn't find anything in the Captivate forum about it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
I had the same problem. I'm now using the cubed music player without any problems, and I really like it. Check it out here.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've got it running now and I am happy with this.
Same Problem / Posted to T-Mobile Forums
I have the same problem [Not Enough Space in Music Database] error occurs when trying to sort by Artist or searching (for anything) from the Music Player.
It would be nice to have a fix for the Samsung/stock Music Player (which can't be removed) instead of installing yet another redundant application.

I was looking around in dbdata/databases/media and there are some artist databases and such in there that I thought might have something to do with this, but I don't really know what they do or anything.
Maybe someone who knows more than I do could look at them and see if they notice anything strange that may be causing the problem.
Works with 30 Artists
After deleting most of the music library from the phone [reduced to 30 artists from 181] I was able to use the Vibrant Music Player to organize by Artist.
I too had the same problem: 32 gb SanDisk card installed with 3260 songs and I am not sure how many artists. Coming from an iPhone 3Gs, I was not happy with the native program's GUI, and not being able to sort by artist made searching nearly impossible.
I reformatted the card, and am in the midst of rebuilding some playlists in iTunes, and importing using iTunes Sync (I believe that is the name of the program; I am on my laptop right now). As of now, I have 463 songs, and 3 genres. Music Player recognizes artists, and displays them fine, at this point.
I did find a different music player with (IMO) a better GUI; it is called MixZing. The free version has ads, and after playing with the advanced features like a 10 band eq, I think it is well worth the 5 bucks for the full version.
Just my .02; hope it helps.

I'm using MixZing too. I really like the lock screen widget, and I even bought the full version.
If you want something thats a little more... fun. Try cubed. It has a really cool interface, but I like the usability of MixZing a bit better.

I did try "3", and it is fun to play with. I like the functionality of MixZing better for when I'm driving and trying to flip through tunes.
Yes, you are right: the lock screen widget is great; thanks for mentioning it as I forgot that feature.
Wow, this problem is devastating. I still haven't transfered and organized all my music but I don't want to use another app. The default one is perfect, I can pause/skip from lockscreen and swipe down the status bar while working with the phone.
But most importantly: The virtual surround sound! I can't let that go and use another application!
I'm also having this issue..my internal card has around 11 gigs of music. I synced using media monkey and set it to embed album art into the tags, could that have something to do with it?
I too am rooted, have 10 gigs of music and album art on my external 16 gig sd card and have no issues sorting by any means via the default music player.
I've installed titanium backup, busybox, rom manager, launcher pro and a few have fun apps. Uninstalled all the AT&T junk. If that helps.

I have about 17GB of music on an SD card, and I ran into this issue. The card was recently formatted, and my Android installation is pretty clean.
I realize 17GB of music is a lot, and I know I could pare it down to work around this problem, but nonetheless I'm very disappointed that Samsung didn't put together a better database system.
Mixzing and Cubed can handle it. The stock music app is really great otherwise, but this issue basically ruins it for me. C'mon, Samsung.
I found this post by DLarva in the Vibrant Forum... perhaps this is the key:
DLarva said:
OK, well I thought was the number of artists, but now I'm not so sure.
Maybe it has something to do with how the app handles various artists and/or unknown artists.
I added all my music, then deleted tracks from various artist albums until it worked again. I then put back the various artist album track and it didn't work, as expected.
I thought this was artist based, but when I got it working again--by deleting the track mentioned above--and then added a track for a various artist album by an artist that already existed, the app crashed too.
I then thought it might be song based. So I removed that song and then added a set of songs. However, it unexpectantly worked.
The difference with the set of songs added above is that they weren't part of a various artist album. They were a new artist, but the main album artist wasn't Various with a Contributing artist of the actual artist name. Instead, the Album Artist was the artist name and the contributing artist was left blank (or had the same name).
So, it is that the music app doesn't understand how to handle various artist albums?
Could someone else with this problem remove all the various artist albums from their collection and see if their app works again?

Even the stock android music player can handle it. I don't think its a database issue but instead a bug in the music player itself.

I just hit the same roadblock.
No one have any definitive answers yet? Besides "Buy an iPod" ?
Anyone know just how many artists it can take before it crashes?
There's a workaround... just get rid of/rename your various artist tracks. As long as you don't have too many tracks by "Various Artists", you will not have this issue any more. I have 8 gigs of music on my SD card and no issues with sorting by artist.

I have about 16gb of music split between my internal and external SD cards. None of my mp3s are tagged with "Various Artists" in the artist field, yet I still experience the "Not enough space..." error when attempting to sort by Artist. However, all other sort filters work fine.
Does anyone know if the leaked JI6 ROM still has this issue?
Workaround <G> Well, I deleted the soundtrack and collection albums from the microSD card, that works too.
I'd rather not lose the artist names from the MP3 tags but I guess putting "Samsung ****S" in there instead would also serve the purpose.
There must be a terribly small limit (128? 256?) on the number of records/fields in that database, because I really didn't have THAT many artist names. Maybe two dozen primaries, then only 6 discs of "collections", like the 4-disc Woodstock set. Odds are there are 128 artists in all--and that's enough to crash a database?!
ROFL, with tears in my eyes. Was this stuff written by programmers, or Pinky And The Brain? As if it would be SO HARD to release an update? And compete with an iPod?
[LATER]
I think I've just discovered another and greater reason to dump the Samsung/AT&T Music Player: It inserts breaks! Like the Windows Media Player, it is incapable of playing two consecutive tracks without inserting a pause.
If you have ever listened to Simon & Garfunkel, or Pink Floyd, or The Moody Blues, or Jefferson Airplane/Starship....there are many albums that segue from one track into the next WITHOUT ANY BREAK. Now this nasty little cheapware comes along, and to me it sounds just like a skip in an LP, there's a half second of dead silence interrupting the playback. That's just plain nasty, considering all the software has to do is pre-fetch, buffer the next track and keep playing.
Looks like I'm going shopping...and then doing a little root & spring cleaning with the trash, unless Samsung fix this all in the Froyo release.
"Dear Samsung and AT&T: Grow up! There's no excuse for this kind of software getting onto the market in this day and age. You can and MUST do better."

[Q] Mixed up Album Art

This may have been asked in some other thread, but I couldn't find it explicitly. I tag all my mp3's by inserting the album art into the tags. It seems sometimes the album art will be correct after downloading some tracks onto the SD. For no reason I can find, I'll look at my music and the album art will have gotten mixed up and some albums seem to be using art from other albums. Seems like for some reason the DB is getting mixed up, and no amount of using apps to rescan the card seems to fix it. Anyone seen this before?
Using 2.3.3 stock and the stock player.

[Q] HTC music player weirdness with ID3 tags?

The default HTC music player seems to do some odd stuff when generating album lists from ID3 tags!
Some of my albums are split up into 2 or 3 separate albums, I've reset all the ID3 tags and cleared the media cache to no effect.
Anyone else experienced this, anyone know a solution?
Yes, I am experiencing this issue was well... I copied around 3gb of music to my Sensation, and noticed the issue almost immediately. I cleared the media cache, and it *seemed* to fix it, but after a reboot it was back to weirdness.
Weirdness, as defined in my case, is where an artist will have the correct number of albums, but when selecting an album, I am given a track listing from either A) A different album, or B) The album I selected, plus a bunch of different tracks, with incorrect thumbnails for the album... Very strange indeed.
Another bit of weirdness is, once I realize the track list is jacked, I hit the BACK button, and I get a Force Close, with a 'Tell HTC' button. I've hit Tell HTC everytime in an attempt to annoy them... hopefully it gets through.

Do you have different album artist? I have a soundtrack on here and it's split up because the songs have different album artist. Not Artist, Album Artist

Not to speak for the OP, but in my case, the answer is no. I am taking about single artists albums...

Update... Winamp doesn't exhibit these oddities, therefore, I am switching. I really like the sense player, but can't live with the broken listing. I am sure it will be fixed in the update... Or at least I hope.

You just need to make sure you have the correct album artist and it works fine.

I do have the correct album artists, and it doesnt work... No changes to the tags, and winamp works fine... YMMV.
even if it says the right artist under 'artist' in the tag, it may have something else under 'album artist'
you can use something like mp3tag to read & edit the tags

Just having a toy with this, on mine looks like i had differing composers.. Just testing to see if that fix's it

Album art

Anyone have any issues with this?
For example, there is a specific album from an artist called Hopsin on my sd card and every so often the album art from him will over take all my songs, regardless of song, album, or artist... I can't reproduce it or figure out why it's happening.. Just totally random.
The only solution I have is to use cover art downloader and clear all art work then redownload it all.. Then a few days later it will happen again.. Very annoying.
