[Q] Is it possible to consolidate all this OTA stuff? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

There are a metric ton of threads on this. Can we possibly just build an FAQ and build on it or figure out some way to slim that down???

You probably should've written this suggestion in one of MANY ota threads. However it is a good idea and could be helpful for users with questions in regards to it

[Q] [Android]: ROM Development

I have been looking around, trying to get a general idea on how to get started in the wonderful world of Android ROM development.
It seems that information is spread out amongst different sources, and that there isn't really anywhere that has all of this information together (to my knowledge at least).
I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction, and or assist me in any way. It would be much appreciated! ^.^
I have been following stuff here on XDA for a while, and just finally decided to make an account. So, I apologize if this is posted under the wrong section, and/or this question has been asked a million times before. I know how annoying that can be. I searched around before I made this post, so I don't believe I am re asking a common question, unless of course I missed something.
Thank you all!
Here are couple of sources
I think these might help get you started.

Those Links are exactly what I was looking for, thank you!
Anyway, I'm glad you've found that, but notice that on future you'll have to make some research to look what you've benn looking for, about certain things at least... you can found tweaks and "how to" on devs general section, but you can also find some in device's forums... there's no one section in wich you'll find all you need while working on a ROM

New phone threads, what's wrong mods?

It seems to me that any thread pertaining to another phone has been removed by the mods lately. What's up with this? I understand that the thread may not be about the infuse, so I understand your logic for moving them. However, what about those of us that may want to discuss new phone options with fellow Infuse owners that we have been in a community with for some time now?
To me, it seems as if you're controlling what a new group of friends can talk about, and basically being an overly harsh dictator. I respect the opinion of my fellow Infusers, so why can't I talk about new phones with them in a place where I know it will be mostly Infuse owners? It's the GENERAL section for a reason. You're supposed to post any random discussion you want there, so long as it is not offensive and is appropriate for all.
Specifically, I'm referring to the threads about the galaxy note. I was enjoying reading the opinions of all of you, as I will probably be upgrading to it this summer.
And don't say that I can go read in the AT&T note section, because that is not what I am talking about. In the AT&T note section, you get the opinions of all sorts of people coming from different devices, whereas a thread here will only gather the opinions of Infuse owners. I want to be able to talk about new phones without the thread being deleted or moved after a few days.
/endrant
Sorry for the lengthy response, I just think the mods should be a bit more lenient.
There should be one thread for all of it. People can post about it without clogging up the forum.

I have been holding my tongue...
BUT I'm kinda getting there:
HERE IS WHERE YOU WOULD WANT TO POST IT:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255388
All non-Infuse phone goes there...
skyrot, all-trix, galax Not, etc...you get the idea
Sorry, forgot about that thread as its a sticky and I do most of my reading on my phone, where stickies are under a different tab. My bad. Although I still think it wouldn't be that terrible to have a thread here and there regarding specific new phones. Whoops.

np..i don't have any issue usually, but as new threads get created with only a few posts, the older but good thread with lots of material gets pushed back.
We end up with such a large clutter that is harder to follow.
bronco is actually pretty tolerant...I've on seen one thread got locked in the past several months.
Try Dolphin HD with desktop toggle add-on for full web page browsing from phone.
If you want to discuss about a new phone, if that alreday has a dedicated forum, then you can talk about it there.
If not you can post in General-General.
Certainly you cant post in the Infuse forum.

P.S. You can also use the Infuse Comparison thread which is stickied on this forum

Best way to find best ROMs

I've spent much wasted time trying to find what i think the best ICS rom for my galaxy s2.
Is there somewhere i can find summary or section with others experiences as much my own?
i am sure many are doing as i.
thanks.
Shouldn't you search here or here?
Just look around here on XDA, there's a lot of very good ROM's here for SGS2
Yup in the roms threads. A search would have saved you the trouble of making a new thread.

Should I return my S4?

I recently upgraded from a Nexus 4. I was unlucky when I purchased my S4 because it came with the MF3 firmware. It's really important for me to be able to run custom roms on my phone. I know that using the safestrap method I can install TW based roms but I'd like to have more options available to me. It seems as though this has been the case for a while now. Should I just return my phone and purchase something else or wait for a fix in the future? Also, with the 4.3 update coming soon for the AT&T S4, will this effect my ability to use the safestrap method?

A. You need to search, the question you asked about safestrap has been answered several times as well as it can be answered at this point.
B. Only you can decide if you want to take the phone back or not. How is anyone supposed to make that decision for you? If you need information to help you make the decision, I suggest you read the "pinned" threads in the General and Q&A sections and also read the threads that are on the front couple of pages of those sections. Good luck.

I would say return it if you really care about flashing custom roms, get the nexus 5 if you want pure Android experience. Otherwise, you could keep it and wait for the flashing method to becomes available.
@scott14719
There is nothing wrong asking for a second opinion. move on.
Mod Edit profanity
I say return it. There a plenty of options out there. My girlfriend just bought the lg g2 it's a very good phone. Or like was mentioned above the nexus 5 if you want pure android.

... thanks buddy. the reason i ask is because maybe there is a developer reading this who might be able to give me a clearer timetable on when a fix might be released. it seems as though this has been an ongoing problem with no fix in sight. if the problem were to be fixed within the next month or so i'd be interested in keeping the phone. hence, why i ask the community for advice. it's not as though i'm a little child who doesn't know how to spend his money. and my question about the update/safestrap issue isn't clearly answered on the OP's FAQ... maybe if i sifted through thousands of pages. you go out of your way to write a lengthy MOD EDIT response yet fail to answer the question that could be easily answered much faster.
Anyone who buys an S4 or Note 3 from AT&T right now isMOD EDIT And did not do their homework before buying.
I'm lucky because I got my S4 the first day it was released, so I can run any ROM I want, including AOSP. But as of recently, nobody who buys a new S4 or Note 3 can run REAL custom ROM's, ever (as of today). And I'm talking AOSP of course.
When the first of my two current AT&T contracts is up (June '14), I'm ditching AT&T and going to T-Mobile.
I'll sell my used S4 to cover the cost of prematurely ending my second contract.
MOD EDIT AT&T.
I still love Samsung though. And have no plans to leave Samsung phones as long as they continue to give us removeable battery covers and MicroSD card slots.
Read and make a decision on your own. No one can decide it for you...the end!
Consider the Thread closed.
To the OP the reply to search and read is the best reply. The #1 rule on XDA is search. Your remark to the individual suggesting to search and read is unwarranted.
Also questions go in the Q&A section not in General. Please read the XDA rules here and familiarize yourself with them.
To all others profanity is not permitted on XDA in any style or form. Masked profanity is profanity. Also abusive name calling is not tolerated.
Thank you for your future attention to this.

Have a nice day.

Suggestion: Enforce to have a FAQ sticky thread on every device category that explains the meta of the device

Sadly after years of being on XDA, the threads here are still a mess. Especially if you're looking for information about what variants to get or avoid, if you want to achieve root or custom rom.
I simply want a sticky FAQ thread on each device category detailing vital information like: variants for rooting or custom roms, updates to avoid that breaks exploit to achieve root, etc.
I envy Reddit for having this system implemented by users voluntarily. Like for example, if you go to the Nintendo Switch Hacks subreddit, they have a FAQ thread there detailing everything you ned to know about hacking the Nintendo Switch. But here in XDA, it's always a mess. I have to go through a lot threads just to find the answer I'm looking for. I hope this system gets implemented.

There have been several attempts at something like this, which always fails for lack of volunteers.

My advice, if you want a Sticky thread, start a thread and ask that it gets pinned to the top.
If you are looking for a thread template see
The Index Project
and
The FAQs Project
Many of my threads are stickies.
I wasn't asked to create them, and most of them, I requested that they be stuck to the top.
One of the biggest problems is many people don't keep their phones very long anymore. They move on to the next phone So, they don't keep their threads up to date.

I could do that, but it'll be pointless if I am the only one to do it. I wish XDA users have the same mentality as redditors.
About not being updated since people move on to different devices, it's not really a problem since informations such as what variants are rootable, or any simple info like that that does not change. Thank you for reading
Custom ROMs are always changing. It's not really feasible to keep an FAQfor things like that. It would be forever changing.
A Switch is a Switch, and info found in an FAQ will always be relevant. But smartphones are a different beast. Updates, new versions etc mean the FAQ would need updated on a weekly or close to daily bais on newer devices.
It's a good idea in theory, and some forums have or had them. But it's too much work for members.
Plus a lot of it is subjective. There's no "best" or better ROM. A lot is really personal preference. Most of the info you're talking about is already in each forum throughout the various threads. You just need to doa bit of reading.
