Found some cool mods on Sensation forum - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

i found these mods on the sensation forum but im not sure if i should try them yet. they look like they could benefit us if they work. the undervoltage installer says it should work on any phone but im not sure what frequency to undervolt. the second sounds cool also could open up both cores for max performance. Maybe someone with a little more knowledge on these subjects could help me.

also do you know about safe undervolting frequencies

No, I don't flash mods built for another phone so no issues arise. The other phones updater-script "could" wipe things we don't want wiped.
I don't know much about voltages other then that if you are not sure what your doing it can cause stability issues

is there a way to test if it worked? i just downloaded systum tuner pro thinking that it might tell me but im not sure.......

careful in cross flashing devices guys each device has a different partition number. Other devices /system partition could be our hboot, recovery, modem or any critical hardware drivers so you might end up having a permanent brick when doing it.
If any of you want to try out some mods which you can flash you can PM me a link for that mod and I'll make it flashable for mt4gs

Yeah I'm aware of the partition thing, also that the update-binary could be wrong. I've thrown multiple zips together for flashing

I was under the impression that the sensation was basically the same as the Mt4gs. I have flashed a number of mods for sensation with few consequences.

Using CWM to write kernels.

So I found this in the updater script for this CM9 port for the EVO 4G LTE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683384
"package_extract_file("boot.img", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p21");"
looks like we can stop using fastboot to write kernels? Or is this something we already knew?
PS: fiddling with this CM9 port, I can get it to boot up to the CM9 bootanimation on my HOX, then it gets stuck. Just needed to change the partition it was writing /system to and change the asserts in the updater script...
I would love a CM9 port I cant stand these Sense ROMS.
would LOVE LOVE LOVE MIUI on the HOX!!! but CM9 would be good too

Yeah I know. Although theoretically if it's working(ish) for them, it shouldn't be too difficult to port. I'm no dev, but their build. prop has the same msm898 (or whatever it is) board as ours and the hardware is pretty much identical from my understanding.

Do I need to check mounts and do wipes before flashing a rom?

I've seen this question quite a few times now. The main purpose of my port of the AROMA installer has been to make flashes painless for users.
If you're flashing a ROM that uses AROMA:
You do NOT need to check mounts.
You do NOT need to do any wipes.
Users are still getting confused about this and I think it's unnecessary that they have to worry about it anymore. If the ROM dev is doing things right, he'll make sure that the user doesn't have to worry about these things.

Benefits of root?

I've rooted and used custom roms on other devices in the past although I've left my Nexus stock and my OneX is currently stock. With this phone I am trying to figure out why I want to root? The phone runs great, I haven't had reboots or issues and battery life is great.
I don't care for custom roms because in my experience there's always minor things that don't quite work and stability can be so so.
Apart from custom roms any good reason to root this phone? With my Sensation I rooted right away but with the One X, there's nothing that I feel like needs to be addressed with root.

Bloatware removal, button remap, memory settings to alleviate multitasking woes, ad blocking, tethering, etc... Check out cleanROM SE. Very close to stock, every tweak you need, nothing you don't, just as stable as the stock ROM. My phone is exactly the way I want it now thanks to Scott and his awesome, awesome ROM.

Titanium Backup
Change fonts
tweaks like minfree manager to fix multitasking
look through this list https://play.google.com/store/search?q=Root&c=apps
reasons why i need root is removal of bloatware, tweaks, titanium backup, ad block, setcpu profiles and extra settings that devs put in their roms like eqs, button remaps, and wifi hotspot hack.
Can't wait till aokp or cm9 becomes stable. Gave aokp a try and that rom flies on this device.
Responses above pretty much covered it, as far as the benefits of root. But I have to disagree to some degree to the OPs comments on custom ROMs. It completely depends on the ROM and the developer. But my experience with custom ROMs, is that they can often be more stable than stock, and much better performance. Obviously, bugs need to be worked out early on, especially for ROMs that differ significantly from stock (like AOSP ROMs on HTC devices). But once the ROMs reach "maturity" they are often better than stock. And CleanROM is a good example of a ROM that is already stable, since it is mostly stock, but with lots of bloat removed, optimizations, and useful features.
That said, its only fairly recent where Android devices have high enough specs where performance isn't much of an issue on the stock ROM. Even with Sense, the One X is very smooth and responsive, and plenty of people will be just fine staying on the stock ROM. I am mostly on CleanROM due to the nice features like Advanced Power Menu, WiFi Hotspot, and button remap built-in.
---------- Post added at 11:55 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:52 AM ----------
Another thing you can do rooted is install the HTC apps that AT&T removed, including Flashlight and FM Radio.
I did it. Have root.
Any one have links to the button remap that's safe and works on 1.85? I want to do that the black bar with 3 dots drives me crazy.
The Cleanrom 3.0 SE does this. Just rooted last night and I'm loving it. Makes the xda app so much better

But here is direct link to removing the 3-dot bar and remap the buttons:

You will need to flash Clockwork or TWRP recovery. Or else unzip the contents and copy them into the system folders manually.

****. And unlocking boot loader means wiping phone. What a pain in the ass. Wish we could just get s-off so wouldn't have to do all this nonense. I'll just stick with root for now
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
If you don't want to unlock the bootloader, you can still install the 3-dot menu mod. You'll need an app like Root Explorer or ES File Explorer (that lets you browse the system files). Unzip the file from the thread, copy to the appropriate places. You will need to mount the folder locations as R/W, and also make sure the permissions on each of the files you copy is right. Read through the thread for that mod for details.
I would recommend unlocking your bootloader and flashing a custom recovery, just so you won't lose root after the next OTA (I recommend TWRP, cwm seems a bit unstable and there are reports of sd wipes). In the dev forum there is a thread that steps you through keeping all of your settings, I would check that out

[tut] how to manually flash kernels

here is a youtube video i made on how to manually flash a kernel on your device, please note: if there is no boot.img file in your roms zip file then you will need to modify the updater script which is NOT included in this tutorial
also note: if anything goes wrong, i nor the any devs on this forum are responsible for any damage or any misshap that this may cause FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK

sgs flasher does not do the same thing, it actually takes the kernel file and flashes it on its own, where as the method shown is installing it within a rom, now please note this tut was made for when you had to flash a kernel for jb (which jb one our devices doesnt work with sgs flasher)

Think of it as the "settings" app for the kernel. It allows you to configure or change the values (e.g. cpu/voltage..etc) at runtime. Unless you build an app, you can use std. shell scripts to change the value and run the script at boot time so it says persistent during reboots..

test driving it..will release over the weekend..
I usually undervolt everything 25-50, underclock to the min on both cpus and overclock them to about 1.7 ghz, always leave sammy governors, and usb fast charge is the ****. Idk how much it really affects my battery life as I haven't had the time to do real comparisons, but I'll get 30 hours with about 4.5 hours of screen time.
I'm running a frankenbuilt, rwc stockbased rom over top of 3.5 and am getting killer sleep stats as well as smoother/faster ui performance, which is exceptional given the dirty config my test rom has atm. Props, bud.
