Share ADSL as WiFi [which Android devices can connect to] (NO ROOT Needed) - Android General

Imagine you have an ADSL connection and a laptop and would like to share your ADSL internet connection as a WiFi connection WITHOUT any wireless routers, ONLY using your laptop's wireless modem.
I tested "Connectify" to do this but unfortunately it shares the ADSL as an Ad Hoc and Android does not scan Ad Hoc connections , However you can root your phone and install some packages to Enable Ad Hoc support in your Android Phone.
If you would like to do that then take a look at this topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754961
Tutorial is based on; lewiverdatama.com/tutorial/solved-setup-shared-wifi-connection/comment-page-1#comment-454
As I was unsuccessful in the process of rooting my phone I decided to find another way. So after some research I found a software called "Virtual Router" which was not working for me again , It could not share my internet at all , it was giving me an error , After a lot of research for hours and hours I tried all the solutions and none of em were working. Finally I found the golden way (Thanks to : lewiverdatama.com/tutorial/solved-setup-shared-wifi-connection/comment-page-1#comment-454) that could let me to share my ADSL using "Connectify" which is a great application (I was using it to share my internet as Ad Hoc and use it on my iPod Touch, Apple's iOS lets you to connect to Ad-Hoc connections)
Now I am going to show you how to share your ADSL connection as WiFi (ACCESS POINT) ====>
FIRST BE SURE THAT YOUR WIRELESS CARD IS TURNED ON
I HAVE TESTED THIS METHOD ON WINDOWS 7
1. Go to "Start" and start "Run" , Type : cmd and press enter
2. Now type : netsh wlan show drivers
3. Look for "Hosted Network Supported" (you may have to scroll up a little to find it)
4. If it is "NO" , then we are going to fix it. If it "Yes" and you cannot share your internet as Access Point in Connectify then I would still recommend you not to give up and do the further steps.
5. Close the cmd window.
6. Now go to "Device Manager" by right clicking on your "Computer" and choosing "Properties"
7. Look for "Network Adapters"
8. Expand it (Double Click on it or just click on the little triangle beside it)
9. Look for the model of your Wireless card (Mine was : Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless N-100)
10. Google the model and look for the latest driver available and download it , or "MAYBE" you can get the latest driver by just right clicking on your Wireless Card model in device manager and selecting "Update Driver Software".
If your Wireless card is Intel then you can go to this link and simply get yourself the latest update easily by one click (Java required)
www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect
11. After you have updated your Wireless card to the latest version available, then you might restart your Computer (well I didn't as it was not needed at all), So you can restart it or not. It is totally optional.
12. Now as we did in step 1 and 2 and 3 you should open a cmd window and type "netsh wlan show drivers" and now look for "Hosted Network Supported". It should be written "Yes" in front of it now.
13. Get yourself the latest "Connectify Pro" application. At the moment of writing this post the latest version is 3.6.0.24540.
14. Install it. Run it and input the required details and be sure to choose "Sharing Mode: Wi-Fi Access Point"
15. Fire up your Android device
16. Enjoy the internet universe on your Droid!

Guide!! Using your WM6.1 device as access point via your router

Hello This guide is made up from the knowledge i have build up from advice given on XDA and information on other sites.
I have found this very useful in my home and hope you do to.
First off, this guide explains everything you need to do to use your diamond as the access point to the internet at home for all devices. (PC's, PS3, XBOX360, Wii)
It is highly recommended that you have a unlimited data allowance!!!!! Otherwise you could have a hefty bill at the end of the month.
Right what you will need :
A WM6.1 Device (I used a Diamond) with an unlimited data allowance tariff,
A WiFi router (i have used an old router that was installed with Tiscali BB)
WMWifiRouter version 0.80 (please find this your self i will not provide it)
and some basic knowledge of networking on PC's and your devices.
Thats it. Please don't be put off by the networking side of things its really easy to do.
Right first off we need to get your diamond taking to your router.
switch on your router and let it do its thing for 2-4 mins
Connect your diamond to the wifi router by switching on your wifi in settings, communications on touchflow, when prompted, connect to your router and enter your network key.
THIS IS THE SAME PROCESS AS CONNECTING TO A WIFI HOTSPOT.
Its that simple.
Next switch off your wifi in settings, communications.
Install WMWifiRouter version 0.80 (Simple and stable)
once installed open WMWifiRouter and press connect.
This should then setup your phone to be used as a access point and connect to your wireless network all at once.
Once it says connected you can turn off your phones main screen by pressing the off switch at the top and put your phone where there is best signal! HSDPA is needed to get up 7.2mbps (little H in signal area)
Right now you need to setup your laptop or device to talk to the phone via your router!
So here are the settings you need to setup in either TCP/IP (manual connection) or a manual connection on your device (PS3, Wii, XBOX360).
I will use a laptops connection as a example because all you need to do is to copy the settings to another device using a different IP address.
If you use wifi or a hardwired connection, right click the telly with the wifi connection in the bottom right of the screen and click open network connections (XP only dont know for vista), Or if the telly is not displayed in the bottom righthand cornner of the task bar then click start, control panel, network connections.
Click on the connection you wish to use i.e local area connection or wireless network connection (you can setup both connections by repeating these steps on each connection)
this should bring up a general tab of this connection, click properties.
This will bring up another box with the network properties, all you need to do is manually enter your IP settings and DNS settings so double click on "internet protocol [TCP/IP]"
Another box appears.
Click "use the following IP address"
In IP address type "192.168.0.xxx" xxx being the unique 3 digit code of your choice, write this down for your firewall settings on other devices if you run a networked drive etc. Each new device will need its own unique 3 digit code ie PC = 192.168.0.100, XBOX360 = 192.168.0.200, Wii = 192.168.0.123 etc.
In Subnet mask type "255.255.255.0"
In Default gate way type "192.168.0.1
Now click "Use the following DNS server address"
In preferred DNS server type "192.168.0.1"
Thats it, press ok and ok on any other boxes still left open.
Your network device will rest your IP and DNS settings to the ones you have just entered, thus allowing you computer to access the mobiles phones internet connection via your router
On all your devices Manually setup all your connections using these settings and they will all use your mobile phone to connect to the internet.
Using DHCP to configure your network is not advised as its unreliable at finding your phones connection.
Now if you want to start using your phone as a phone again, open up WMWifiRouter again if its not already and click options Quit.
To get internet access on other devices via your phone again all you need to do is to start WMWifiRouter and press connect. Start using the internet!!!
If you wish to use your laptop on another hotspot, you will need to reset the TCP/IP settings back to automatic, otherwise it will not work.
Using this process sometimes causes the phone to disable its own internet connection, so a soft reset after exiting WMWifiRouter is recommended.
Have fun, im sorry if its all a little messy but i have never been very good at writing these guides.
If any modd wants to add or edit this post then please feel free. any persons wanting to add to this guide please do so.
Yes i know you can connect your phone to your laptop by USB, Bluetooth, but this method allows multiple devices to use the same phone to access the internet at the same time and via a access point at the highest possible speed, so games consoles can use it!!! Brilliant if you get a good HSDPA signal and live in the country.
Oh one last thing! if you are a youngster and wish to try this, please do so on other equipment, don't use your family's main router and laptop or PC unless its no longer in use!!!
Thank You

Reverse tethering on Desire S Using USB Cable

OK so here is THE ULTIMATE question: how to use PC's internet connection on your awesome android phone?
I know, I know there are lot many replies guiding us properly with wi-fi solutions.
But USB? almost null. Please Forgive this mortal if below solution is already known.
so story continues, after weeks of research which phone to buy few days back I got my first android phone -- Desire S -- and I stumbled upon a same hurdle which every smartphone user face, Internet Service from your Operator.
To my shock, my mobile operator does not provide 3G service so only option remaining was GPRS using which I am sure that I will be dead before page load completes.
maaan, I am blabbering to much about my ****. lets cut the chase
Basics
I am using dialup ADSL 2Mbps connection over ethernet on Win7 Ulitmate at my Home PC
Step 1
connect your phone to your PC using USB cable and select tethering option.
Step 2
on your PC go to --> Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections. I am using win7 ultimate, so you need to go to appropriate section as per your OS.
Step 3
now in network connections you will see one more LAN connection with description as unidentified network - HTC Remote NDIS based Device
Step 4
right click on that HTC LAN icon and make sure sharing is NOT ON
Step 5
now right click on your ADSL connection --> go to properties --> go to last / Sharing tab, you will have three option here out of that check first and third and leave alone second, actually I am not sure about third if it really needs, you can differ.
Step 6
once above steps complete come out of all property windows by hitting Ok or Apply. Duh!
Step 7
enjoy your internet on your mobile
now what happens here is that dial-up ADSL connection is now accessible to all LAN connections. Ref. Step 3 normal tethering creates LAN connectivity with my phone.
Thus LOGICALLY I should be able to access internet from HTC device even if it is normal tethered one.
This is not tested on networks like our offices where we get internet through LAN only. I will post my try on in coming day or two.
So guys let me know how it goes with you?
To all Mods and Admin, as I mentioned above forgive this mortal for rules broken and off topic text. And yes I have read the rules.
UPDATE 1
While performing above steps make sure your wi-fi and mobile internet is shut-off. After you connect USB cable to phone, it will prompt you to take action there you have to select internet pass through.

On your phone go to
Turn off wi fi and mobile internet from quick settings
Then go to
Settings-> connect to pc
And either change option two to the last option- internet pass through.
or set option one to ask, and then when promoted by the phone after you connect to pc select the last option (internet pass through).
I'm afraid I don't know how you should set up windows 7
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App

Reverse tethering not working with Play Store
Is Play Store downloads working with your solution?

[Guide]* Reverse Tether* (Wifi Method)(download anything) [Windows and Ubuntu Users]

This guide teaches you to reverse tether your Android phone via WiFi. That is, it allows you to use your Ethernet connection of PC on your Android phone. It is useful for those who do not have WiFi routers and data connection. So if you have unlimited data plan for your computer, why not share the connection with your phone?
I am not the developer of the files supplied
Requirements:-
1.Rooted Phone
2.Wifi enabled Laptop or PC
3.Root explorer or any other application which gives system access
4.File in the attachement
Procedure :-
Phone:
Download Wpa_supplicant.zip and extract "wpa_supplicant" from it, save it on your SD card.
Open Root Explorer, and grant it superuser access when asked for.
Navigate to system -> bin and long press on wpa_supplicant; Select copy, and paste the file into any folder on your SD card.
Now navigate to the file you downloaded, copy it in same way, and paste it back to system -> bin. Note, you might need to mount the system as R/W instead of R/O by pressing a button on the top just before pasting the file.
Reboot.
▬▬Ubuntu (Must work for other Linux Distros too)▬▬:
Open Network Connections
Goto Wireless tab, select add, and set the following:
SSID:
Mode: Ad hoc
Leave other things unchanged, and go to Ipv4 settings tab
Set method to Shared to other computers
Go to Wireless security tab and set Security to WEP 40/128 bit key and set key to a numeric password (or hexadecimal one).
Check the connect automatically box on top of the tabs and press Save.
Your Android phone must now detect this network, and you can establish the connection by using your security key.
▬▬Windows XP, Vista, 7▬▬
Download and Install Connectify from www . connectify.me/download-lite/
Start Connectify Hotspot by giving a name and password to your hotspot and selecting the Ethernet connection to share. Make sure the security type is WEP or Open.
Disable your firewall (Simply adding it to exceptions doesn't work for AVG at least)
Now your phone should be able to see the hotspot and establish the connection using the password set.
Known Issues :
1.Random disconnections (Very less frequency)
2.Disconnections due to screen lock / sleep on laptop
3.For me Security mode does not works
HIT THANKS IF IT WORKED
ENJOY

[TUT] Wifi file browser without wifi Direct

Things are more simpler than it seems to be.
I am going to share how I did it, in very simple way.
Things you will need :
PC with any wifi working (NEED NOT WIFI-DIRECT AT ALL
Any android mobile with hot-spot working. (Rooted for root directory)
ES-File manager (Free)
Main reason to write this tutorial is for broadband users of PC, not having wifi-direct card, and no use of any wireless router or LAN or any fancy device.
I will tell you my short story, I am a usb-modem user with 2g/3g net with very limited data connection. Also cant buy wifi routers just to put my mobile n PC on "same network" criterion. USB was a pain and also very limited to just SD-card, and no root access via USB. So I took this mess and did my all to settle it as I need rather than fancy drivers and devices.
Enough of spoilers, lets start :
Mobile side settings :
Install ES-File manager. Goto windows->default->check remote managerBack to Home-screen and swipe to remote manager page, It will say no connection detected (its ok)Click on turn on wifi to enter in wifi settings and start hot-spot (or you can do it first)It will show an ftp address like "ftp://197.0.0.1:3721/", NOTE IT DOWN
Pc side settings
Search for the just created Wifi-Hotspot and connect to itNow 2 ways to connect to mobile : 1. Open windows explorer, directly write the ftp address as it is and voila you see your mobiles directory there.
2. Open windows explorer->right click on my computer->Add a network location->Next->write the ftp address->(<give a name>)->finishBoom, it will show as network mapped folder, click on it goes to your mobile.
THINGS TO REMEMBER :
IF YOU NEED TO ACCESS THE ROOT FOLDER OF YOUR MOBILE, SET THE PATH IN REMOTE MANAGER'S SETTING OPTION (SET ROOT DIRECTORY)
Any problem you tell me.
Sorry for my English.
