Bricked TF300: The aftermath... - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I promised I would come back and tell everyone how my repair @ ASUS would go. I first called ASUS to make an RMA, but they just reffered to their website. So I filled in the form as honost as possible: "Hi ASUS, I've bricked my TF300. First I upgraded to JB, afterwards unlocked the bootloader, replaced it and after a wipe of the settings it won't boot at all. Please have it repaired, I'm aware of any costs or warranty-loss."
They picked it up last friday in Belgium, shipped it to Czech, where it arrived on Monday. I prommised myself I wouldn't check on the status for at least a week, but I couldn't stop myself
Yesterday I checked, and it was in status: Final testing. An hour later it was picked up by DHL again to be shipped back to Brussels. This afternoon I received it, and indeed: all issues solved! The note from ASUS didn't say anything about my story, the problem description was: System hangs up :victory:
So: Fixed in warranty, picked up and returned within a week, bootloader locked again, flashed back to stock JB!
Couldn't ask for better service!
Good luck out there

Lucky - my non-unlocked TF300TG has been away for a month and a half now. I'm generally a pretty patient person, but this is starting to piss me off. Especially considering it's just a software problem. I want to find whomever decided to lock down APX mode and slap them silly across their face.

You got lucky, hope I'll be also...
Hi,
I red your history with fate...
I bricked mine also, and I did the same call customer service, and got a RMA.
Sended it last friday, hope that the service is the same in Canada...
Thanks for your story...
But, as my wife will tell you: It won't stop me to root back my device.
In the mean time I bought a Nexus 7 tablet. It's very hard no to root....

My gf went: How the hell did you break it after a week?? Well, my answer was: because I could Never had a softbrick I couldn't fix before, the thing I did wrong was mostly: Starting to screw around after midnight, the "Oh, let's just do this one more thing now everything went so well...". Lesson learned! By the way, it returned stocked on JB, so I'm gonna wait a little bit until NVFLASH can be performed on this as well. But indeed, it won't stop me from messing with it again (Only this time on a Sunday afternoon with some calming music on the background )

LG VIP 24h Service Suxx

/rant mode on
My O3D got stuck in the FW update screen on 18/07/2011 I was on holiday in Greece the next day I called LG support as I had registered my phone as VIP 24h support. This means that I would get a replacement unit within 24 hours of calling! The guy could not find my IMEI or phone number in their system, so he told me he added it again and that when I got back 26/07/2011 I should call them again and the phone would be in my hands the next day. On 26/07 I called them again and they could not find my phone in their system so they added it again and told me that someone would call me to arrange a pick up/replacement of the phone. Nobody called me back so next day 27/07 I called them again they transfer me around to Holland and back to Belgium but nobody could tell me what was wrong or that I was even in the system but they would call me again to arrange a pick up/replacement. No one called me on 28/07 so I called the pro assist support (I got that number the day before, they handle the pick up/replacement for Belgium and Holland) they could see that the phone was in the system from 26/07 but they told me that LG did not send them a message that they could replace the phone, they told me we will call you today to say what happened, at 5u30pm they called me and told me that they could pick up the phone on Monday 01/08, I was not very happy and told them is this 24h support, after that they told me we can pick it up tomorrow 29/07 before midday, 1u30pm I called them again telling them that no one came by to pick it up... They told me that LG did not send a phone yet so they can't replace it! I called LG again and checked again whats wrong he told me that there was an error in their system and that's why I didn't receive it yet, so he updated the system and told me someone will call me today or on Monday (1 Aug)!
Did anyone had this problem with LG 24h VIP support?
I try to develop 3D stuff for this phone, but this is really pissing me off, they should not advertise with 24h support if they can't deliver!
/rant mode off
Received my phone 2 August without the cover and battery.
Phone complete again 3 August and I updated it to V10D and it works fine!
24hr service in NL was really great, phone had battery drain issues, within 24hrs I got a new phone + battery. So 24Hr service was really great
Yes it seems to be based in NL but I am in BE and NL needs to send to BE first and then to customer but they ****ed up big, I filed a complaint lets see how it works out...
uhm... you're really a developer?
why do you fight with the support? just for principle?
ok... you payed for this vip support and it's your right to get it.
but if you're really a developer you could have flashed the original rom a thousand times!
edit: wile writing your post you could have flashed it again ><'

Application/games development and ROM/Firmware development are two completely different subjects.
And besides, if I could get a replacement phone within 24 hours I'd take that over messing with the phone myself anytime, especially if it's a paid service. I guess Murphy took over somewhere for the topicstarter.

yea i know that he's not a rom developer... but he's a programmer so it would be easy for him to flash.
and flashing isn't "messing" with your phone. it's a easy and secure way to install a rom.
htc elfin->xperia x1 ->motorola milestone ->galaxy s ->galaxy s2 and now o3d
that have been my phones for the last years, i flashed each of them very often and still do (the x1 for e.g. ) but i've never broke one of them through flashing.
why? because you have to do really stupid things to make such a bad flash...
If it's stuck in Firmware update screen then it's impossible to revive for now...
I did reflash it before any of the threads came available with kdz upd fw and upTestEx but you cant resolve the problem like that, this is my 4th android phone and all of them had custom roms.
Mine is just a retail phone and I just started developing games.
I did not fight with support they did not do their job, if you register a phone for 24h exchange and the next day you dont hear anything and call them and they say it is not registered and this happened 4 times. I think most people would get a bit angry
And yes Murphy probably had something to do with it, anyway we will see what happens on Monday
I finally received my replacement!! But they delivered it without battery and back cover and took my phone with battery and back cover... They will come again later to bring those.. Anyway it works! (used my o2x battery) and it updated to V10D!

Return Infinity with unlocked bootloader?

So I unlocked the bootloader before reading that you cant relock it (dumb me, I know). After playing with the tab for a few days in not 100% satisfied with it. Has anybody returned one with the bootloader unlocked?
I've seen people returning it with the tablet being unlocked. They usually don't check the internal stuff. They just want to make sure it turns on. But still there is a small chance you will get caught. Maybe when Asus receives the tablet and then backtracks to the seller to warn them they broke the warranty. But then I'm just making that up (Asus contacting seller).
If you happened to buy from Amazon you'll have no problem...
I got it from Best Buy, should have got it from Amazon. Ill try to return it and see what happens

Sooner or later the stores are going to start cracking down on tablet returns. I see A LOT of open box tablets on the shelves. If the store puts your tablet back on the shelf, the next person who buys it has basically no warranty. I think since you messed with it and it's not defective, you should be keeping it. It's a good tablet, why not keep it?

Cracking down how? Like checking to see if the bootloaders are unlocked?
The reason I want to return is its just not as fast and fluid as I was hoping it would be. I get tons of force closes, jitters and laaaaag! It's fast at times, but then slows down to a crawl. Im just not happy with its over all performance for a $500 product.

Nah,
They don't care.
I see openbox crap myself at Fry's all the time.
All these Taiwan manufactured devices are not worth anything in realtime all the profits are in the original sale.
The junk that comes back eventually goes thru the grinder, and there's even profit in that.
These massive companies have it handled.
The days of Mom and Pop retail are long gone.
I'll bet even if you told BB it's unlocked they'd say (with a blank stare) "did you find everything you were looking for and would you like your original receipt?"
I just went to BB this morning to return my tf700 with unlocked boot loader. Lady just checked to see if it turns on and if anything was wrong with it and then bam! Money back.

I've also returned my with an unlocked bootloader. The reason was for cosmetic damage however, straight out of the box. Cust service just asked if all accessories are in the package and BAAAAAM...another brand new unit was handed to me like free lunch.
Return in Netherlands
The Dutch law protects the buyers. In the Netherland you can return it with out any issue.

Unlocking your tablet - beware of warranty!

I installed CM 10.1 on my TF300T recently, in hopes that it would fix the random reboots, wifi power, and freezes that have plagued my tablet from the day I bought it. My tablet still has these problems, and I contacted Asus to see about repairing it. They said that since it's unlocked, they won't honor the warranty. Even though I've had these problems since I bought it. I'm not a happy camper right now.

I'm in the USA, and it's a USA tablet. It's especially frustrating because I read stories from other people saying Asus would honor the warranty even on unlocked devices. The reversal of this policy has me regretting buying this Tablet.

Welcome to the club. I have a hardware defect in the form of a faulty Micro SD card slot (found out well after I unlocked the tablet), and they won't honor the warranty since I'm unlocked. Never again.

they DID place an huge "you warranty will be void if you continue" alert when you unlocked, didnt they?
now, if you were in a country where they give a damn about consumers rights your choice would be excusable, but you live in USA, the Land of the Free ( Companies), what were you thinking, that the "your warranty will be void" was just a party joke?
have you opened a claim with your credit card company's extended warranty benefit? I paid with American Express. They've always been good on these sorts of things, so I hope they will help me here also!
Since the AmEx extends the factory warranty I think by voiding it you prob void the extension, but it's worth a shot.
OP, How long did it take before you first noticed these issues? I just got a new device and have been using it for a couple days, trying to get comfortable enough with it to know I can root it and play around a bit.

With those problems your tablet had you just decided to unlock it, hoping, those issues would disappear? Wow...I mean, could've been software, but you should've contacted asus and get a replacement or your tablet fixed on warranty instead of unlocking

Went to T-mobile to replace my defective device, came out with more problems....

So... today i went to change my devices because i have a defective one. When the guy was making the exchange he said he needed a register number, but the girl who made the pre-order in the store for me didn't put any register number. Then everything went to hell! i called the department of solution from my car and guess what did i find out? They told me that the LG V20 has been removed from the warranty buyng remorse program of tmobile and thus i wouldnt be able to make the exchange. I got so pissed off with the guy that i had to smart up and then came out with the bunch of calls i have made to the department of solution and technical department and also all the chats i have done, which in total would make 22 agents i have spoken to, 13 agents by chat, 7 agents from the department of solution, and 2 agents from technical department. finally when i said that the guy from the technical department wrote a note in the system, he then said : "let me see the report and see what i can do" . Finally he send me a label shipping so that i could send the device and they will send a new one. BUT REALLY! I have driven from north to south and east to west in miami , from store to store, and ended up with this huge surprise of the warranty removed for the LG V20 from Tmobile. BETTER WATCH OUT PEOPLE! SMART UP! OTHERWISE YOU WILL KEEP YOUR DEFECTIVE DEVICE!
What do you mean warranty removed?
Doesn't sound like warranty removed. Either someone was pulling your chain, you pissed off a rep or two and they made some notes to make your life harder and/or T-Mobile might've have changed the policy on return period. Seriously doubt your warranty is removed. Warranty is through LG. I registered mine.

Well you know the 14 days given for buyer remorse? well, they weren't giving it to me. I havent pissed off anybody yet they did piss me? AAAAAH NOPE. No way in hell. Finally i managed to make them send me the shipping label and do the exchange. But i have been since 8 am doing this. I bought my phone on 19 of this month and it arrived on 21, i still have 1 more days before the 14 days expire, and they are trying to revoke my privileges ? Screw them. Im paying money for it. It is not free and under no circumstances it has been my fault that the device is defective. I havent even flashed the new TWRP and root methods nor invented with anything like that. Anyway. i will contact an agent via chat now before i send the package through UPS just to be safe.
Ah got it
Just FYI for the future -the 14 days starts from their shipping date (which you're still within so no worries) not the date you receive it (a little caveat hidden in the small/fine print of their 14 days period).
But yeah I'd be upset if I was still within that time frame and having issues.

That's weired, I normally have really good luck with Tmobile (aside from 1 instance recently).
I'm on Jump on Demand. I did a Jump for one of my lines to go from an iPhone 6s+ to an iPhone 7+. We got the phone on October 6th. I get my bill and they were trying to charge me for the 6s+ from 9/20 - 10/19 and the iPhone 7+ from 9/20/-10/19 lol
Yeah that wasn't going to happen but it took several calls and I finally just said fine, I have no problems going back to AT&T sine really I am the only one who uses JoD out of my family everyone can deal with same phone for a year. That got them to take care of it.

Well,, isnt that enough to piss you off? i mean, money doesn't grow from trees , and even less for me having to pay college without fafsa So anyway, i did one last chatbox for today with tmobile just to keep it in record and rub it in their faces if something happens.... Now im phoneless for who knows how many days.
Swapping the device because it was defective has nothing to do with the buyers remorse period. My v20 was immediately defective from the store and I was able to swap it out with no issues at all.

Well, i dont know what the heck happened, But they weren't allowing me to replace it. In fact, the guy from Tmobile's store wanted me to give them the phone then buy the new phone directly from them and then i would lose the promotion of $200 dollars. The heck, after that i grabbed my defective phone went to the car and called the solution department. And there is were the second issue began. How could i have noticed that my device was defective if the behavior started when i used the phone on the third day? But i also noticed the screen bleeding at the first but decided to let it slide just because i wouldn't cry for some screen bleeding and that's it. But then at the third day, when the signal bar showed an x then it showed that it was connecting to the sim card again and also it started to reboot, HELL NO!, replacement for sure! But i have been dealing with that since the first day the phone showed the symptoms ,and i have been jumping from store to store, and from agent to agent and from, department to department. (by the way while i was talking with the guy on the department of solution today the signal dropped 5 times, so i lost him 5 times, although i warned him)
I am pretty sure that if the phone is mailed to you then you actually have 20 days for buyers remorse. As others have stated though a warranty exchange is not buyers remorse.

Im currently talking with a supervisor "FINALLY!" they will keep the promotion of the $200 dollars since it is not on tmobile anymore but they will add it to the new phone!. However, here is the downside.... I will have to wait until the latest week of november for the phone to arrive. In other words.... I'm phoneless....
i feel your pain. mine freaked out this morning while i slept. got up to a bootloop that i can not fix. called lg. was told to send it in for repair. said i'd deal with t-mo as i can't go without a phone. called t-mo, got told in order to get an exchange i would have to send in my current phone and wait 7 days for them to confirm they recieved the device then they'll ship new one. on plus side they did let me have a loaner for the time being. not the best but hey at least it works.

you got lucky they even gave you a spare one. They gave me nothing! im phoneless now! . I had to ask my mother for her phone for the time being (i installed a custom rom Resurrection remix on her LG G3 so that i could have 2 separate accounts in the phone and to not have to install apps on her profile, only in mine) . The supervisor who finally solved the issue today agreed with me about tmobile making a mess out of such simplicity. if i were to send you every single chat i did with them in addition to the conversations i had through the phone and all that you would have seen that it looked more like they wanted to act like fools and also as a conspiracy or something. Anyway, at least it is solved now. On the other hand,,, i spent a lot of gasoline and time dealing with this issue instead of studying for my midterms this week.

oh it wasn't easy, i first called lg, got no where with them except send it in for repair, called t-mo, we can send you one before you send yours in if you want to pay a new 50$ down plus tax on 749$ plus shipping, went to store. they couldn't exchange it because i bought it online. however i know the guy there real well so thats why i got a loaner. i paid i think 12$ and got the cheapest android device they had in stock. i'll return it when i get my new v20 and get my 12$ back and no restocking fee(got lucky here), and then i come home to call t-mo again to get told i'd have to pay or wait 7 days for them to get my device first then they'll send me a new one. i tend to get frustrated really easially. feel sorry for the rep at t-mo cause she got an earfull. it'd be nice if they knew there jobs and t-mo's policies on things. whatever the case a new one is coming. and problem solved, but by no means was it easy or as difficult as your situation. i feel sorry for ya man, but at least ya got it dealt with.

They made me do the order again and cancelled everything related to the other phone. (Of course, adding the promotions and all that). Although i forgot to ask them what is going to happen with my earphones, because my order was already processed for the other one and i registered that one to get my earphones and i dont know if the shipped or not... do i get a second pair of earphones if i register again? because i dont know where am i stepping on right now..... I registered the other order 6 days ago . And it says from 5 to 9 days.. so , if they shipped the earphones already , i get 2?

Brand New Galaxy S7 Stuck In Boot Loop With Error "Custom binary blocked by FRP Lock"

Brand New Galaxy S7 Stuck In Boot Loop With Error "Custom binary blocked by FRP Lock"
My Step-dad bought my mum a brand new Galaxy S7 for Christmas. He bought it through amazon but we soon realised he bought it from a seller, not Amazon official. Anyway a couple of weeks into use the phone seemingly randomly got stuck in a boot loop with the red error message described in the title.
I can get the phone into download mode and it says the Current Binary is Custom and the System Status is official. We contacted the seller and they claimed that they ordered the phone directly from Samsung, which seems doubtful given the problems. So from their instruction we sent it to a warranty repair, the repair people said that it was not covered as it had been tampered with and said all they could do was replace the motherboard at our cost ~ £150. Of course we said no and got the phone returned unchanged , thinking that we could just escalate the dispute with Amazon to get a refund.
However it is now to late to escalate the claim further (an A-Z claim I think) and so we are stuck with it. I just now tried to flash the Stock Firmware using Odin which I believe was successful, but it is still stuck in the boot loop. I'm at a bit of a loss now as I'm very much an amateur, I'm guessing I need to get it back to Official Kernel but I'm not sure how. Any help would be great.
The phone came unlocked and my suspicion is that that is the cause for all this trouble, but I really don't know. The best solution would be able to return it for a refund but I think that is out of the question now unless we took it to small-claims court? But just getting the phone back to a stable working order would be great. Sorry for the rambling, just wanted to make sure I got all the info down, any advice is seriously appreciated.
Thanks, Chip

You need to find out exactly what model it is, download and flash THAT firmware then see what happens. If you can't find this out right now the best thing to do is install TWRP with Odin and go from there.
