I just learned(the hard way lol
) a couple of weeks ago that HTC put a block on its devices so they wouldn't be able to use WiFi tether. I had downloaded the current wifi tether from the play store it didn't work even tried foxfi nada, so I flashed back to my current ROM patiently waiting for a fix

What do you mean a Block? What Rom where you running at the time? I don't think HTC would be able to do that if your Rooted running a custom Rom.
EDIT: BTW I'm posting this using WiFi Tether .

I was on cm7 "was" LOL but yeah wifi tether was out of there I tried foxfi and got a msg stating HTC put a block on there devices
CyanogenMod 7.2.0 speedy
Using CM7 nightly 20120715 and wifi hotspot /tether works fine...

Idk what the issue was with my evo shift but wifi tether DEFINITELY didn't work for me. I knew something was wrong when Tb didn't want to restore my wifi tether app I kept getting a error msg saying Tb couldn't restore. Then I went to the play store dl the most current wifi tether and Nope, wouldnt work, my girls pc would sometime pick up the connection but her pc never gave option to connect, neither in the access control I couldn't even pick up her pc..... weird so i jus flashed back to mik mik #noproblems though I am still interested I'm cm7 I made a back up jus n case there's a fix..do you have an htc device? i got it to work, i had to move su from xbin to bin...
Doesn't 2.2 have it as part of the build options? Could we maybe get the Froyo tethering app ripped from another device or does this have to be built into the kernel?
I had to uninstall mine using titanium backup, then reinstall and it worked fine.

I had been using Barnacle, which didn't work with 2.2 until I checked Skip wpa_supplicant.

i believe that has to be built into the kernel to allow such a thing.
I initially installed Wifi Tether with the Rooted 2.1 kernel. Then after testing to make sure I was rooted... flashed to Froyo... and everything still works.
so ive sucessfully rooted my phone found a rom that enables tethering
but what ive been noticing is my hotspot only says 3 g above it but my mobile network says h+
ive seen both say H+ when i was on a downgraded rom but it had no sound
im wondering why my rom says 3g there when network says h+ ive tried 3 diff roms now still havnt found one that fixes this or am i just stuck with 3g hotspot ?
i could be way offf here if someone could explain id appreciate it
H+ is really 3G so don't let that confuse you.

Yes exactly.
Try using the Speed Test app from the Market.
I just want to make sure, being that we are rooted (I`m using the LeeDroid ROM btw) if we use the stock Wifi Hotspot we should be fine right? Theres no need to download the google Wifi Tether for Root app correct?

How did you fix? I flashed another rom to ensure it was not hardware related. Which it wasn't so I flashed CM7 back on and everything works fine now.

try going to the wireless settings, and forgetting all of the networks that you have saved. And then it should work again. This is a bug that's shown up in the other CM7's as well, including my ****ty HTC legend i had before i got my infuse

this app works absolutely fine on MIUI and CM7.
this app can be downloaded form market too. And its absolutely free.
now you can share your internet on laptop.

Please tell me which version of CM/MIUI ypu're using, and the kernel.
With MIUI v9-10.1+vurrut kernel v1,3,4, the app will appear to be working, but you won't be able to find the phone as hotspot from other devices.

It will only work with laptops.
N I tried this app on Waleed's CM, Ganesh's CM. JP MIUI_9. I dint used any other kernel. Just the default ones. N keep all setting un changed in the app.
Note- your wifi must be switched off and internet connection must be on. Then only it will work.

hey im on rogers and i flashed cleanrom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1655011
i love everything about this rom, except ever since i flashed to it, i haven't been able to get tethering working (usb or wifi). I've even tried using the "att hotspot hack" addon that comes with the rom but no luck. anyone else having this issue or no how to get tethering working??
for now i just restore a backup of my stock phone whenever i wanna use tethering but thats a hassle and theres gotta be a way to get it working with cleanrom..
