Htc one x for 220$ worth it? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I have a chance to get this phone. How is development? How is the battery life?
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda app-developers app

For that price you can't go wrong. Rooting maybe difficult depending on if it's on 2.2. Battery life is swell for me.

Yeah ask what software # it is if its below 2.20 get it ...the devs here are great its a pretty friendly and joking around community and a sexy device

Thanks guys. I really want to root. I have an lg nitro but a cracked screen. So I might as well try a new phone.

I got mine for 600$ near release, for that price its definitely a steal, and your getting a great otherwise

Ripoff!!!! Give me his contact info and ill let him know that we wont stand for it

Yeah, ask for the firmware number. Anything but 2.20 is rootable. 2.20 is not currently rootable.
Development is not as active as the most popular/active devices, but still plenty of awesome ROMs both AOSP and Sense based, by some really great devs. Just check out the Dev forum.

I got mine for 600$ before as well, im not biased or anything but you can never go wrong with this device.

Yes, 220 is a steal dog!!!!!!! U would b dumb if u didnt jump all over that! If u dont want it, give me the info, n ill buy it! Lol! Development 4 this phone is just fine. Theres plenty of roms to choose from, aosp, or sense. I personally am running viper rom 1.2.4 and i couldnt b happier! Ok maybe i would b if jellybean were out!! But the ics viper rom is sick! Also we have kernels, oc capable, splash screens, and tons of mods! Do yourself a favor n jump on it bro, u wont b let down, guarenteed!

I ended up buying the phone for 220. Bit found that there was a dead spot on the bottom right of the screen I couldn't press the p until I calibrated the keyboard. So I think I'll end up replacing the digitizer that's what I get for being in a hurry and wanting to drink with my friends

S off is to remove "s" from all displyed fonts, including the keyboard. E.g. so=o, stop=top. Htc's misuse if the letter is sickening.

I personally think if anyone was working on s-off, their efforts would be better spent working on root.
Did Yall see the procedure for s-off on the att vivid? It's called the wire trick, because you literally have to use a piece of wire and physically short some piece of hardware to achieve s-off! And it took so long to devise this plan, the phone was virtually obsolete by the time they released the process.
HTC leaves root up to att, but s-off is htc. Att sells a service, they don't sell software. They just happen to dapple in code to provide more $$ for the bottom line, but up until this last ota they had not done a very good job from what I understand. This would certainly be obtainable.
Feel free to start a bounty and get to work. Nobody's stopping anyone.
---------- Post added at 02:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:20 PM ----------
The long and the short of it is quite simple. This device on At&T is the only Evita that doesn't have sanctioned bootloader unlock. It doesn't look like we're going to get it either.
With our development community being so small and s-off methods being similar across multiple htc devices, I think we have a better shot at getting it. After we do AT&T can suck it.

I am bouncing back and forth between my S2 and HOX until my disconnect date for Sprint. That said, I feel confident in this dev community, small or not, to do some killer stuff with this phone.
I have 27 more days to decide on keeping this phone or dropping the extra $100 on a GS3 or exchanging for an Atrix HD. I have always been an underdog kind of person, so I feel good about sticking with this phone for better or worse. Get that S-Off and like Gunny said, AT&T can suck it then.

The only thing that bothers me about this ROM is the screen tearing. That's it. I know its such a small thing to care about but it bugs the crap out of me. Lol.
I tried a kernel that is supposed to help with HW Overlays disabled.. And while this fixed the tearing, I now experience freezing while on calls. Its random when it does it. But it does it enough to warrant switching back to the stock kernel. Irritating to the highest degree.
Can't wait til h8 gets everything sorted out!
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
I also cannot stand the screen tearing, and disabling hardware overlays was making my phone hot. Sticking with viper until the new kernel is ready, but I can't wait. I love AOSP way more than sense-based roms. I like it to match my Nexus 7.

Oh. I have a Speck case and the power & volume buttons are UBER stiff.
I stopped using a case... I'm surprised I haven't cracked it but maybe that speaks to it's outstanding build quality. I might have dropped it maybe 5 times without a case? No scuffs or sign of damage at all. Just scratches on the glass but nothing major. It's also insured so you know... whatever.
But I'm a fan of the power button. I didn't think I would be but it's held up pretty well and isn't stiff or too worn out over the course of 11 months.
