Hello all,
For the past 2 months, I have been facing various problems with my VOX. First, the display was not working properly. Then, the spring between the two halves started sticking out. Next, suddenly, after I restarted the phone, I saw that the display was blank. I thought that there might be some problem in the cable connection between the two halves. On closer inspection, I saw that a plastic like cable(presumably, the connection between the two PCBs) had got cut. Also, due to an earlier mishap, my receive call button had broken.
I would like to know if my phone is salvageable, and if yes, at what cost.
Presumable repairs needed:
1: keypad replacement
2: possible display replacement
3: maybe the connector between the two halves needs to be replaced.
4: connector between the two halves needs to be replaced.
I would like to get a rough idea as to how much will it cost to effect these repairs from the authorized service centre and if it will be worth going through at all.
I like this phone for its versatility and do not want to replace it without giving it a benefit of doubt.
Hoping to hear from you all as soon as possible.
Akshay
The authorised service center will charge approx 1000 for serving as labour and fitting charges. and rates for genuine spares if u buy them from service centres are
keypad - Rs. 600
display - Rs. 3200
connector - dont know
but still, after so much expenditure, they still wont guarantee for it to work though!
so, dyu think its time for me to let go of the phone??
If yes, then i have been looking at a few models, what do you think about the new samsung marine or star 3G??
Or suggest me a phone below Rs.10k and having maximum features... touchscreen is optional
If you are really affectionate to your VOX, then i'll suggest you to buy another VOx because i would have done the same.
else you can look for more mobile phones at poorvika.com, indiagsm.com, compareindia.com or gsmarena.com. but do tell me the one you buy.
try ordering online at ebay. i ordered mine for 42 US dollars just arrived 2 weks ago. Its an orginal housing front and back and including front and back keyboard. Il look again for the buyer and post his name here. Too bad fpc keypad is not included. But the housing is original.
Just get the service manual from winmodaco for htc vox
ditch it....
I went to the service centre. the guy there sed that the whole thing will cost a minimum Rs.3000 upto 70% of the phone cost ie. Rs.7000.
I think its time for me to move on [sob][sob]...
ah well, the phone served me well during its time....
goodbye HTC....
will post my new phone selection when i get it.

I think after using vox u can never be satisfied with Gene.
Vox is far much better, specially for those who love to watch video and movies on their phones since the video quality in GENE is far more inferior than VOX. but one thing is for sure that GENE in cheaper than vox but price hardly matters if u want satisfaction.

Update
Sorry for reviving the thread, but I need your opinion on the topic again.
The service center guy told me that there was a complete hardware failure( too obvious, cos the torn cable between the two halves were clearly visible)
He said that it would take Rs.10k($200 approx) for complete repair. This mindblowing charge made me gulp and i took the cellphone back. Coming back to home, I saw that the guy was just citing the obvious as he had most definitely not at all opened the phone and tested it for any other faults. So, i took up matters in my own hands and opened my phone(finally). Well, I had nothing to lose and hence, went ahead. After opening the phone, I saw that one the springs in the sliding apparatus had loosened, and come in the way of the cable. The flimsy cable had gotten caught and hence, had got torn due to sliding of the two halves.
In the end, after complete disassembly, I saw that the only visibly damaged part was the cable between the two halves. I cannot see any reason to charge 10k for that. So i am planning to go to the repair center and show him the damaged part only and ask him to replace it. Searching the net, I found that the replacement part for the rigid flex board( I believe that's what it is) is $89( mebbe totally $100 approx after shipping charges, etc..).
So, do I go ahead and order the replacement from the net and reassemble the whole thing on my own, or do I not risk it?
I am gonna buy a new phone anyway, mostly the samsung marine. It looks good, albeit the small screen.
what i think is, you should post some pics to show us. someone might be know what wrong with your phone.
also we not know what exact problem hardware you are facing. if you have extra money why not to take a risk. same to me when im trying to replace a ribbon cable in my hermes. the shop said it will be cost 80usd/280myr. so i decide to not repair it and let it be...
now im happy with my vox and kaiser...
I am in a catch 22 situation. I have to take a photo of my damaged vox, but my vox is the only decent camera in my house. Neways, to give you a rough idea of what is broken, I will attempt to photoshop a stock image of the component.
The site from where i obtained the image( http://mobile.brando.com.uk ) was selling the same for $38+$3(shipping). I want to know if this site can be trusted and also, what are the chances for me to fix the vox at home without any further damage.
When I opened the phone, I saw that the connection was pretty delicate, So, I am a bit cautious of a home repair.
PS: here is the link of the product: http://mobile.brando.com/htc-s710-rigid-flex-board_p03852c1023d088.html
@RxenDrav: If the site is good, you too can check for your item there.
Plz help...
K ppl nebody hv ne idea what shud i do now? shud i risk 35$ or go for a new phone?
akshay, unfortunately im not profesional and dont have any experience in dissamble or repairing htc vox. but i'd done before on my hermes..
Someone here should help akshay fixing their vox...Anyone out there? we need help here!
also akshay you also can buy a used vox from your indian friend check here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554896
ask him
hi akshay,
instead of wasting your Rs. 2000 (approx), you can buy a second hand vox for Rs. 3000 (approx) at gaffar market in new delhi. Since i saw many of them being sold there yesterday. You can get a 'never disassembled' phone instead of disassembling your phone and then reassembling your phone.
I have faced this many times, that each time my vox has been disassembled, everytime a new problem arises. So dont be so sure even after buying that abovementioned part. I think you can look for a used vox in pune also. u can easily find a cheap and gud one.

I have just received an email from Mobilefun telling me I will not be getting the car mount I pre-ordered as it is now discontinued. I am not sure whether we should be worried or not that the official Samsung official mount for our few month old phones is now not going to be available. I have never seen a product discontinued before it was even sold.
Most peculiar. I've been checking around here too, no accessory to be found. Really need a car mount.
WTF!?!?!? That is kind of scary. I havent even had the chance to think about getting the "official" accessories as of yet and to hear something like this now???
Perhaps someone can confirm with Samsung and find out what the deal is on this?
I had the same with the carmount available on meritline... weird eh!
I've ordered the exact same of eBay though... kinda weird!
I won't argue with the mods but surely this is a news story not just an accessories one?
This is the one I ordered. Where on eBay did you find one?

I've got the brodit: http://www.mountonus.com/Samsung-Ga...t-With-Tilt-Swivel-Function-512167-26030.aspx
It's a real nice car kit.
The Brodit ones not bad but neither of them really appeals to me. I wanted one I could just clip the SGS into and it would be screen mounted and powered. No messing with wires or anything. I have tried to email Samsung about it but I am not holding onto any hope of a reply.
I bought one of the spider foot screen mount and it came with a car charger, leather pouch and a laynard. I was that impressed with it that I bought a second for my friend!
this is the one i have

althought, i have a herbet richter tower back part so all i needed was the bit that actually holds the phone, and it s a perfect fit.

I got the same one, do you ever have trouble getting the phone out of the holder? My clip seems to be very stubborn and always catches on the backplate of the phone, just wondering if you had the same problem
Thought I would share with you what the higher ups in Samsung have to say about this.

Thank you again for your reply.
I think you are misunderstanding and that we are not making progress so I will try to explain again. Last year Samsung announced the Car and Media dock for the Samsung Galaxy S. Retailers began to advertise them for sale and to order them from yourselves. Two months later the retailers were told by Samsung that they were discontinued. This was before ANY had been delivered to the retailers and as I have said only two months after they had been announced. The retailers then contacted their customers, myself amongst them, and informed us of this. I have been trying ever since to get an answer from yourselves as to why this line had been discontinued in all countries apart from the USA market just two months after they were announced and before any had been sold except those sold in the USA. A greater part of the 10 million+ Galaxy S phones sold were not sold to the USA market yet that market is the only one that has these promised accessories available. If you cannot provide an answer would you now raise this enquiry to the next tier please.

The answer
Good afternoon Mr Pitman
The reason why the unit won’t be available in any of the Samsung subsidiaries is due to sales and marketing reasons. As a manufacture of many products, sometimes a product that is closed to being released can be stopped due to the market for that product changing and to this reason the product can become discontinued.
Unfortunately we are unable to provide you any other information regarding this product as we only handle the aftercare service of a product that has been fully released, nor can we advise who the best contact for your query is.
I can advise you to write a letter to the following address: Samsung Mobile, Samsung House, 1000 Hillswood Drive, Chertsey, Surrey KT16 0PS, I cannot guarantee that they will response quickly but you query will be looked into be that team.

Well, thats a gilbert answer... Gadgetization is androids weakest spot. And what gadgets and bling there is, well its fairly low quality.
This is iPhone's main advantage. One design and a forest of 3rd party manufacturers that have grown out of their garages and become professional suppliers.
There would be a huge upside for Samsung/HTC/Sony to mimic this by setting up their own production lines to mimic that market. I guess the problem is no one in house is willing to risk their neck and the people that sit on the money don't understand this part of the iPhone world.
I don't want to use both hands while attaching the device to a car mount - so 3rd party accessories are no-go.
I ordered an original T959 Vibrant car mount for my international i9000: http://www.daydeal.com/product.php?productid=48828&cat=5138
They ship nearly worldwide. It's 10 days ago and I am still waiting for its arrival.
You guys should do the DIY one from this thread, I did it and it is amazing, it looks so good, and holds the phone really nice.

Dirt cheap too, for a custom mount the whole thing cost me maybe 10 bucks at the most, including the epoxy.

So did you get your mount yet? Does the Vibrant mount work (properly) with the i9000?
Hi,
the first order was lost, so they sent another one, which arrived in 5 days or something like that.
Yes, it works as designed.
Snap it in, push the USB to the phone (the small box at one end of the mount) with one finger, that's it.
The phone detects immediately that it is a car mount and if you have installed the car app it starts also without delay.

Same thing here with desk dock (original as far as I can say) bought in Poland on Ebay-ish website. Samsung's app downloaded from xda (it's here around somewhere) jumps in the moment I connect the phone. Have problems with line-out though, but I'm on custom ROM so maybe that's the problem.
Nevertheless it really looks like S is making monkeys out of us.

Very nice car kit indeed.
Looking for a car kit too....
Hey, guys. So, what happened is my XT925 fell screen straight down on ceramic tiles and the display just shattered. Well, the glass shattered, all right, but the display seems gone, since it no longer lights up at all, not a single bit of it. I have it connected to my monitor via hdmi and it's still up running and I'm keeping it connected to the PC to keep it up and running for not sure what reason. The digitizer is gone, too, it does not respond to touch anywhere.
The reason it just smashed is the freaking horrible case I got for it which didn't even hold on properly on that side, so there was nothing to hold it from smashing to the floor screen-first. Boy do I now regret going for the cheapest possible case, instead of buying a premium for something that would actually provide some protection to the thing.
Thing is, though, I really love this thing. It has been giving me everything I want from a smartphone for the past few months and I really want to get it fixed. The biggest trouble to this goal is that I live in Serbia, so shipping can cost aaa looot.
First thing that cross my mind, naturally, was looking for a new screen. On ebay I found chinese ones for ~$90, and some supposedly OEM ones from the US at ~110, but they included the whole front of the case plus a small toolkit, which is awesome, and I would definitely go for that before the chinese one.
But, then, I thought about something else. Finding a bricked XT926M, the HD MAXX, and making a hybrid of the two. I'd use the case, display and the battery of the MAXX and everything else from my phone. Although I'm not sure if all the sensors and the front camera are working (using keyboard to control Lollipop sucks ), so all the spare parts from the Maxx would be great to have just in case.
Now, problem is I can't find one. Does anyone know where I should look besides ebay? Even there most people are not willing to ship internationally. I can pay via paypal, that's not an issue.
So, in short, my questions are these - can a new whole front of the Razr HD (OEM) be found for less than a 100 bucks? Or where I could find a bricked HD Maxx in a very good condition exterior-wise? Please point me to somewhere, as I'd really love to get the poor thing back together And then get a proper case for it.
(Not sure if I should call on someone personally... @iBolski @Zeljko1234 @[] AL [] @bweN diorD @DorianX ?(sorry guys if you consider this spam))
I would browse through this help forum looking for the few threads where some other members had bricked phones. There was a good hand full if not more. Maybe you can arrange (via pm) to pay them the shipping to send it to you.
I don't think that would violate the rules of Xda, as there phone is basically trash anyway.

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't. I mean, PM stuff should really be private stuff... I was thinking about adding a "[WTB] A bricked XT926M in good shape" to my signature but that would surely be too much.
Also, are there any other places where I could look besides ebay?
And do you think my idea makes sense?

You can try Swappa, but broken phones of any nature aren't allowed there.
Your idea sounds reasonable, but I'm really no expert in that area.

There are so many bricked HD's around here... I didn't have a clue. Thought they were unbrickable, at least the unlocked ones. I'll try contacting some of those guys. It's not very cool, trying to get the carcasses of their dead RAZR HD's, but I hope I'll find someone willing to work it out with me.
Also, I must hand it to you, man. You seem to be the most helpful member in this section of the HD forum, it's remarkable. You and DorianX seem to be the locals around here. Huge respect for the two of you!
I'm not really that helpful ?
Poor thing looks as if it were on life support. Turned it off now, no reason to keep it running and I can turn it on again any time, anyway.
Still looking for parts, so... If anyone's got more tips, do share, please!

Unfortunately, I can't really help other than what was suggested. I already traded mine in when I got my new phone (LG G3), so I don't have it anymore.
eBay is your best bet. Just research the seller really well. Stay away from any new sellers. That's not to say all new sellers are bad, but you just never know. Pretty much any sellers with really high ratings are legit (depending on how many people have reviewed them). I usually look for sellers that have been around for years and have over 1k ratings and look to see how many other items they've sold.
Other than that, not sure what else you can do.

Sorry to hear that, mate Last time you broke it, did you buy an OEM new one or one of the cheaper replacements available from China? And, if you ordered the one from China, how good or bad was it? I'm scared that if I order the cheaper one, I might end up with a non-AMOLED-who-knows-how-bad screen covered with non--gorilla glass and with a lousy digitizer... Am I too paranoid?
I bought the "cheaper" one I say cheaper cuz I only pay like $50 for the RAZR on 18 months plan and the China screen it cost $110 free shipping (like 1 year ago) was good I think the same as OEM, I think you are to paranoid [emoji38]
Help for contents and box of "new" S4 Black Edition i9505. Is it new or refurbished?
Hi,
I've just bought online in UK a brand new Samsung S4 Black Edition i9505.
However in the box S/M/L sizes eargels are missing (but earbuds are ok and sealed) and the UK charger is a ETA0U70XBE with only 1A output instead of 2A and it's missing its film wrapping. I also noticed that the small seal was not well applied outside the box so it's not clear if the box was sealed or unsealed. I've also found finger prints on the front sticker/screen protector (but not on the screen) and on the camera lens. The metal-plastic terminal of the usb cable is also a little dirty (but comes with plastic wrapping).
OS installed is already 5.0.1 but I thought that S4 comes with 4.4 preinstalled. Or maybe it is due it was assembled recently? Battery was also completely empty.
And I also found this sticker that seal the outside of the box with strange letters: A, B ,C (see attachment). What do they mean?
I would like to know if someone else has similar experience or maybe they sent me a refurbished/open box?
It probably is a refurbished or returned phone.
The box should contain the phone, the USB charger and USB cable (black), in-ear headphones with replacement buds, a manual and I think that's it.
If the box has been tampered with, then I would worry more about the phone itself than the contents.
I also have a black edition (or so it says on the box).
Mine's got a leather-like back cover and the whole phone is pure dark black. The original model had a brighter black tone and it was spotted.
Hi,
thanks for the answer. The only thing missing are the replacement buds but also rest is suspicious as written above.
The charger for example had no plastic wrapping but most of all it's only a 1 amp model. How many amps has your charger? Which model? An EU model (long and slim) or a UK model (bulkier and short)? See attachments. Mine is a UK model but looks like an S3 charger which is slightly different from S4 charger and has only 1 amp output. Does anyone else got a 1 amp charger with its S4???
Mine's a 2.0 Amp EU model, black. It also had wrapping around it.
Did you get any warranty with the phone?

The seller said it has 2 year UK/European warranty but it had to say this because he's selling them as new. Of course I had the invoice but it's just a piece of paper printed from internet.
I found a new strange thing: as you can see in the first picture there is a EAN code on the sticker. I searched that code on Google and the result was: Samsung S2 (TWO!).
Does the EAN on your box match with Samsung S4 on Google?
I can't check because my box was sealed on 3 sides, and one of those seals had the number on it and it is now torn apart.
But I don't have any reason to believe it would correspond to anything other than an S4.
The phone was bought from one of the biggest electronics store in my country.

I checked some pictures of S4 boxes that I found on Youtube, reviews, Google and all the EAN on them match the ones of a S4! So probably the second seal (the one in the attachment of my first message) is a FAKE seal!!!
I found another strange thing: the protective plastic on the front of the S4 was the colored one of S4 white and black mist (see attachment). But on unboxing video on Youtube the Black Edition always have a transparent one!
Which one did you find?
I think that A,B,C has some mean to it.
A- IMEI remains on the box
B- Seller(Vender) keeps it with them so that non can complain whether or not it was steal product,in short security reason
C- Buyer get it stocked on warranty card/ Billl to claim for warranty.
Now that phone is old, it usually stays as was. Nothing to worry about as long as device is fully functional.

Thanks for the answer. But another problem with the seal was that there was printed a EAN of a Samsung S2 (TWO!) instead of one of a S4. So it was clearly a fake seal. And I've never saw in any unboxing photo or video a seal like that for Samsung S4. I also contacted Samsung UK which confirmed me that the phone was not in proper condition. They also checked the serial number of the device and told me that it was invalid! So it was a refurbished unit.
However I sent the phone back to the seller and received a full refund. Last week I bought a new S4 Black Mist from another seller and this one is perfect. New, sealed (seal with a S4 EAN on it) and with all accessories and plastic wrappings. The OS installed is still Android 4 as expected and not already 5. And a 2A charger. It works very well. :good:
How much did you pay? If it was a good price then ignore the fact it's not new. My S4 was second hand, and I specifically chose it for that reason.

I paid it 267 euro with shipping. Too much for a used one with missing parts and the wrong charger (only 1A instead of 2A). So I sent it back to the seller.
For the one I bought last week I paid 275 euro with shipping but it's new and sealed (with all accessories and a 2A charger which 2 times faster than a 1A one).

Oh wow, yes that is a lot for a used one. I paid £120 for mine last February. It's in pretty good condition (only a few marks on the silver bezel, no scratches on the screen) but it came only with a single generic charger, and a crappy USB cable. No headset or anything, but I wasn't overly bothered because the phone itself is where the money goes and £120 for an S4 is a bargain, even today. 267 Euro's is over £205, which is absolutely top money, even for a brand new model, so to be told it was used, I would be sending it back tbh.

And most of all the seller was selling it as "new". I even emailed him before buying to be sure and he answered it was new and sealed... And the one he sent me had missing parts and a S3 charger (with only 1A output)!
Anyway 275 euro for the one I bought last week from a different seller is a good price for a really new and sealed S4. It is still a very good mid-range device. I was also considering a Samsung A3-310-2016 which came out in January this year for 240 euro with shipping but the S4 has still better specs and a huge XDA and custom rom support!

It's an extremely good mid-range device. The way I like to look at it, is like this:
You can see from my phone history (in my signature), that I go from an i9000 to an LG N4 to a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G, which is quite a deviation. The i9000 was a premium device at the time and it felt like one. The N4 was a premium device and it really really felt like one (and still does to this day). The Xiaomi was a great phone, but you could tell it was manufactured for the Indian market. It wasn't that it was cheaply made. I actually think Xiaomi are quite nicely made, it was the fact there was never any commitment to updates. Getting Lollipop was a bit like playing a game of roulette. Are they going to get it? Who knows? Kind of thing..... eventually some devs ported it, but rather than the 100's that work on Samsung and the Nexus devices, there were a few kids in their bedrooms doing it. I simply didn't have time to get stuck into any ROM development at that point in time either. The Xiaomi was let down by the lack of devs, the poor camera and the general unreliability of updates and software fixes etc.
So here's the point I'm making. You can own a brand new Xiaomi, which for the money seems decent and performs okay and stuff and yeah, they're decent enough phones, if you're going for a new model....
OR, you can get yourself a second hand S4, which will blow away the majority of Xiaomi phones because here's the thing. It's not just about specs on paper. The camera destroys the Xiaomi camera's, the screen destroys the majority of Xiaomi screens and the fact there are 100's of devs knocking out great ROM's means this phone will last a lot longer than the Xiaomi ones ever will.
My modus operandi has now changed. I will never buy a new device again. Every 2 years, I will buy a last gen Samsung (or other brand) device when they become cheap and enjoy all the benefits of XDA devs and what not

Agree! :good:
Assuming it's ok to share items for sale here???
I purchased this battery from eBay a few mos ago: https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-High-Q...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
And then broke my Pixel-C screen before I could install it
The seller is in China and has reduced his price to $28. I paid $35 for mine.
I'll sell if for $25 including shipping to any location in the US. Pls let me know if you're interested.
I also have a near-new Pixel C metal keyboard that is in perfect condition and a leather folio keyboard in excellent condition.
Will sell each for $25 (including shipping)
If you want both keyboards and the battery, I'll sell for $60 including shipping.
Can send photos to any prospective buyers who want them.
I installed one of these batteries, they're legit. Hard to install but doable!

Assuming JesterTX2001 takes the metal keyboard, I still have the leather portfolio and battery available. Just let me know if you're interested. Easiest way is via PM on XDA.

Like I said in your thread, the hardest and sketchiest part is getting the screen off, that job is already half done for you. The actual connectors inside the device are pretty easy to deal with if you've ever repaired a tablet/phone.

Yeah i messed up the screen not worth trying to fix anymore I also screwed up the volume switch trying to clean it out after glue got in it from the last time i tried to glue the screen back on.
So at this point I'm trying to figure out the best upgrade tablet to buy that has good rom or LineageOS support going forward any suggestion's ?
Or I could just buy another Pixel C selling super cheap on ebay but thats no fun

I know Samsung is having some decent deals on their tablets. The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is available for a decent price if you are able to trade in a newish phone, or tablet, but even without the trade-in its still at somewhat reasonable price for performance.
I did not want an iPad or a Samsung tablet so I went for a Pixel C, I dont regret the decision but I do wish there was something else Android. I dont like the idea of either an expensive Samsung that probably will be difficult or impossible to install another rom on, or some complete trash no name from Amazon.

After researching around theres not to many options or companies making tablets seems the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite and the Galaxy Tab S5e are the only 2 with rom or LineageOS support that I can find. The S5e seems to be a bit more powerful offering a 6mb ram version and has official LineageOS support the Tab S6 Lite is the cheaper budget tablet but offers the pen and offering only Unofficial LineageOS.
I'd love to be able to upgrade and get the new Galaxy Tab S7 or S7+ the top of the line tablets out now but no rom support out at all from what I see ?
The Pixel C is a bit old release date was 2015 I could just buy another one super cheap on ebay but think maybe its time to get something newer at this point?
Any one have any other suggestions ?
If you need any Pixel C Keyboards you can check out the sale here where they are just $9.99 for a brand new one Brand New Pixel C Keyboard $9.99 eBay
