Hi,
Seen a lot of users asking whether reverse tethering/Internet pass through (using PC internet on phone) is possible for Note or not.
So decided to post it here.
Okay here is the link to the original thread by capslock66. (All credits to him)
NOTE- This is for Windows users only!!
You do not have to buy any paid app or any router to use this method, it's absolutely free!!
What do you need to use this tool?
Rooted Note
proper drivers installed on pc.
USB tethering enabled on phone.
USB cable.
Summary of instructions to use.
1. Download reverse tethering .zip from bottom of OP from above link.
2. Extract the .zip anywhere on your pc.
3. Copy Tracetool service.apk from extracted folder to phone and install as normal app.
4. Start AndroidTool.exe from extracted folder on pc connect your phone and click "connect" on the Android reverse tethering tool.
5. Allow superSu permission on phone when requested.
Done!!
I have tested it myself on Windows XP and no issue in connecting or installing apps from Google play.

When I need to do reverse tethering I usually use "VirtualRouter", which lets me share my Internet through wifi. I find it a bit more practical as I don't need to have my phone plugged in, but it obviously also means that you're not charging the battery . It does require Windows 7 though and a compatible Wifi driver. If you're under XP, you might also have some luck with dedicated software like Connectify which serves the same purpose. Used to work for me, but a note that I haven't used it in a while.
VirtualRouter : http://virtualrouter.codeplex.com/
Connectify : http://www.connectify.me/
If you want to try a software similar to VirtualRouter, but that has been updated after 2009, you may want to try this one (Win 7 only again). Haven't tried it myself though so can't comment on whether it works

I wanted to know about how to make this app work https://play.google.com/store/apps/...NvbS5saXR0bGVsYW4uUmV2ZXJzZVRldGhlci5QYWlkIl0.
I tried the trial one but it wont connect.....pulling my hair out. even the paid app doesnt work all that easily for everyone. i have windows 7 and when i go to share my net in settings it waunt SEE my android phone !!!
ive disabled firewall, tried bridging connections......no go
my mobile data plan is soooo slow.i need to download many things.... i wanted something like - 'internet passthrough" that i have with my HTC sense rom

No need to download anything for this method to work, just install the .apk included in .zip to your phone. If you are not able to download from Google play then try this.
First enable cell data connection on phone and then connect to reverse tethering tool, I am on Windows XP right now and it is working fine for me with antivirus running and firewall on, downloaded 29MB game in just 4-5 secs.
yes, its working...... managed to update apps from play on LR9
few hiccups still......
so we need to keep mobile data plan on ?
I have used reverse tether from play store long time ago
and i found a note i have put with this application regarding how did it was worked, may be useful
---------------------------
- Install to device (reverse tether from play store)
- Connect to PC N open application
- It will add new network connection (control panel – network connection) e.g. local area connection 4
- Now Rt click on network connection which connect to net (e.g. local area connection) – select property – advance – internet connection sharing
Check box and select local area connection 4(android) from dropdown box- OK
Hmm just curious and bit confused... So inorder for me to enable tethering, I need to always plug my fone to the usb cable and on to my laptop... Is this how it goes?
If so.. Is there some chance we can still tether but not using any cables anymore? Hmmm like tethering it wirelessly?

Now this is something! I have been looking for this for so long, with my previous phone it did not work but with note it works! Now I can download bigger files at my work with this as we dont have wifi, thank you!
Tried Virtual Wifi Router now, works well, and seems less flaky than VirtualRouter, recommended
Well, we have lot of options to enable wireless tethering but for that user need wifi enabled pc and may need to buy router in other options and in that case it's no longer free, where as the method in OP is absolutely free, you just need USB cable and can be used on old PCs without wifi
That's the motive of the original thread.
But it's good that we have more than one available option to use reverse tethering on Note, it will be easy for users to find best suited. let them coming

WOW...
virtual wifi router is awesome
Works flawlessly without any paid app or any other hustle..
Thanks
ohhh yeahhhh virtual router works..
trying to use my laptop net conn on my note .. connectify not working as virtual router.. can anyone explain the method??
for virtual router to work you need win 7 and above
run this command in cmd
< netsh wlan show drivers >
look for Hosted network supported : Yes
if it says no even if the drivers are updated for WLAN, then its not supported on your card. (WIn 7 and above only)
for this enable usb debugging on phone and install the tracetool apk on phone, open it and click on the 2nd tab on top and allow su access. then run the android tool exe on pc and connect the phone using cable and click connect.

I've just posted a thread in the Themes/Apps (non CDMA) forum about this new app that is apparently an awesome USB tethering solution.
Unfortunately, TMobile pulled a rather **** move and has blocked the download of this app in the US app market.
In the other Hero thread, I've asked someone from the UK market to download and send the APK through PM, and I hope that it will work.
My situation, like others in the CDMA Hero forum, sucks because my work blocks Adhoc Wireless so I can't use wifi tether for root users on my work laptop, and PDANet sucks because it replaces the HTC Usb Drivers, which breaks ADB and my development on my android apps.
This would be HUGE for us, and DAMN TMobile for doing that to the entire US. Here's a link to that thread, and info about the app.

***EDIT*** still available in the Sprint market (see below) So grab it while it's still there!
Sprint is not blocking this app. I still find that this app keeps a connection well but has really low speeds.

Can you clarify?
You have the option of keeping your USB driver on install, so it shouldn't interfere with your normal usage of ADB. The reason I asked you to clarify, however, was to see if you meant will it ADB while tethered. If THAT is your question, then I'm not sure, haven't tested that one.

I was referring to usage of adb in general. I don't know if both working simultaneously would add much value to me. You answered my question. Thank you.
Meh.. the 64-bit drivers are unsigned. This will only work on Win-7 64-bit if you manually disable running signed drivers each time you start.
I bought this app. Didn't download it from the market, but from their web page. They send a link to your phone to download the software, so even if the vendor blocks it in the market you can get the app. Not sure how you update it though bc I can't find the apk on their site.
Easytether gets good dl speeds, I average 1.5mb in downtown chicago, and I'm running vista ultimate 64bit (no Linux support, but my home network I just use ics and connectify), but there are still bugs with this software. The DNS resolves domain names, and web browsing works great, but other Apps like hava and slingplayer. Don't work at all. Apt can't find the repositories for installing software on debian which led me to the discovery that trying to ping any domain returns a timeout. Somehow the DNS only works for web browsing. Strange, but I'm pretty sure this is why my other Apps don't work. Ps3 connects up nicely with ics and I can play online games even With the udp support turned off.
All in all, nice software that has delayed me rooting yet again, but still a bit glitchy. Hoping they iron out he wrinkles soon. Oh, all my testing on the Droid btw
damn... dsl speeds are 1.5 mbs??
I guess I'm spoiled here at UMiami lol

I am using the Full, paid version (That I paid for of course *cough*) LOL And it is AMAZING!!! Let me say that it is the BEST i have EVER seen! Blows PDANet out of the competition!
1st. It works along side with the HTC Sync drivers (adb dev drivers) where as PDANet replaces them
2. WAY faster than PDANet
3. Cheaper
I was PMing Devs and asking them if they were going to enable MNS (Mobile Network Sharing) so I wouldn't have to worry about it, but now that EasyTether has showed up I don't even need MNS! When using PDANet, it would be a LOT slower than MNS, and EasyTether is just a TAD BIT slower, if it even is slower. Anyways, Definitely recommended!
Can someone post a link to the developers website. I'm a little confused because there are two 'EasyTether' apps in the Sprint Market and it's not clear which one I should be getting. Thanks!!!

Does anyone else's phone get hot while using this? It didn't get hot before...It always got hot with wireless tether. But never wired. I think my battery is fried.
I love the fact that I just plug the phone into usb and it starts working without dicking around with any settings. I was using the "1x race" workaround for MNS before upgrading to dc1.0. What a pain in the ass that was.
Seems just as fast as MNS was. I don't notice any speed difference. Also, my hero does not get hot using easy tether.

Original post from 27th December 2010:
Hello,
I'm the maintainer of Series60-Remote, an open source Software Suite for Symbian / S60 smart phones. This application connects to a Bluetooth service on your phone and allows you to manage your contacts, calendar entries, messages and files from your PC.
A few days ago I got my first Android-based phone, a HTC Desire HD, and now I want to port the application also to this platform.
The server application on the phone is rather simple (you can have a look at the Python source file for the S60 platform[1]). It just responds to some commands from your PC (e.g. request the hash of the contacts).
So this would be a great chance to have a FOSS suite that runs on Linux, Mac OS X and Windows and supports Symbian and Android!
What do you think of such a project?
I've never used Java before so it would be great if anybody could help me with the port.
If you need further informations you can go to the project page: series60-remote.sf.net (when the port is ready I will rename the software to 'Open Mobile Suite')
Thanks for your comments,
Lukas

Great application, I've used it on my Lubuntu VM and it is running perfectly.
However, I installed the application from the Ubuntu repository you have created and it seems that it doesn't list python-qt4-dbus as a dependency as such errors are shown whenever you attempt to start it. After installing python-qt4-dbus it works perfectly although I would recommend updating the dependencies.

As far as I can tell it's fully Python powered, so it should be fairly easy to port although I haven't looked in great detail into it.

Will try it on my Lubuntu desktop. Not only that, now I have a use for my bluetooth-USB for my desktop.
When I try launch openmobilesuite-connectionmanager I get an error:

Which packages are dependencies? I'm on openSUSE 12.1, Python v2.7.2.

Hi Lukas,
First of all many thanks for your work, I used every day Series60-Remote on my old Nokia, it was very helpfull!
I'm facing an issue to test OpenMobileSuite on my droid (Alcatel OT-990). I assume I've installed it correctly (from ppa on my Ubuntu 11.10) and openmobilesuite-gui is running well (see attached log).
The bluetooth device scanning can't detect my droid ("No devices found", see attached log), although it detects my old Nokia (N95 8GB, but I can't save its paramaters, see attached log) and my droid is well detected by a "hcitool scan" (see attached log).
Thanks for your help to solve it!

You need to install all of this packages:
openmobilesuite-base-0.9.90.tar.gz
openmobilesuite-connectionmanager-0.9.90.tar.gz
openmobilesuite-connection-oms-0.9.90.tar.gz
openmobilesuite-connection-obex-0.9.90.tar.gz
openmobilesuite-gui-0.9.90.tar.gz
openmobilesuite-mobile-android-0.9.90.tar.gz
(the order is not important)
You also need to have PyQt4 (with sqlite database support), PyOBEX, python-dbus (with Qt mainloop integration) and pypluez installed, python-matplotlib is optional (sorry, i don't know the openSuse package names)

The predecessor of this application, Series60-Remote, had binary packages for Windows. The only difficulty to port Open Mobile Suite to Windows is that D-Bus is now a hard dependency. Some time ago python-dbus didn't work for Windows, but I talked to the maintainer of PyQt4, Phil Thompson, and he said that it should work with its latest release. So expect the windows binary installer soon.

Actually it should already work under OS X. You could try it if you're brave enough to install all dependencies using macports.

Support for S60 will be added again in the next release.
The bug for the undetected droid is actually in pybluez.
I could fix it some time ago (see this mailing list thread: https://groups.google.com/group/pybluez/browse_thread/thread/3606131e5e108cd0 ) and the bugfix is already in the SVN repository of pybluez and will be in its next release.
Thanks for testing!
Thanks for your answer Lukas, I've installed the svn version of pybluez and my droid is now indeed detected!
But I'm still facing the other issue I described: although it detects my phone I can't save its paramaters:
Code:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.7/openmobilesuite/gui/window/settings.py", line 475, in accept
if self.saveSettings():
File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.7/openmobilesuite/gui/window/settings.py", line 483, in saveSettings
self.database.deviceHideAll()
AttributeError: 'Settings' object has no attribute 'database'
How to fix it?
The settings window is not yet ported to the new framework.. the only way to add a new device is to delete the .config/OpenMobileSuite folder and re-run the wizard
Thanks, now I can add my droid to OpenMobileSuite.
Another issue: I launch the application on my droid, "Service is running", "1 active connection", I see the name of my computer and its bluetooth adress.
In my computer, OpenMobileSuite is updating contact list and stuck to 60%.
And now, force close of the mobile application: Sudden closure of the Open Mobile Application Suite (com.hetzenecker.openmobilesuite process). Thank you for trying again.
I've attached OMS'log on my computer, but not sure it'll help you, tell me if you need something else

Cool, tell me when it's ready I cannot wait to test!
and before anyone says do a search, i've already done that and they all point to the same useless crap about downloading pdanet or some other app to tether.
i've done it before but for the life of me can't remember how it was done without having to use an app or the hot spot feature. i'm in an office and don't need everyone seeing the SSID and tethering is much faster than hot spot.
my phone is rooted so that's done and i can use the hot spot feature which works fine but when i tick the "usb tethering" checkbox to tether it doesn't work. wtf am i doing wrong? this is frustrating the hell out of me.
do i need to download some extra drivers or is there something else i need to check off or enable to make this thing work? HELP!!!
If you are already rooted all you have to do is download Titanium Backup Root from the market. Then run it, and find a program in the list called tethering manager and REMOVE it. It will be a system file and will tell you as such. Remove it anyhow and the stock tethering program will work fine.
I will be no help, but for those that can help it would be nice if you included more info
What rom are you running?
What kernel?
Or are you just stock rooted? If stock rooted froyo or gingerbread?
Provide as much info as possible, more is better than not enough. Again can't help you figure this out as I've never tried to tether...but I hope someone can help you figure this out

Sorry, guys, but I just checked and there is nothing in there called "tethering manager." Am I supposed to download this or should it just come with the ROM?
The only things I have listed in the "T" section is Task Manager, Tip N Split (cause I'm a damn good tipper), Translate, TTS Service 2.3.3, TwLauncher 2.3.3 and TwWallpaperChooser 1.0.
I've even done the filter to find anything with just "teth" or "tet" but still nothing.
As a last resort, I uninstalled TB and re-installed but still nothing. This sucks major balls!
update 1:
After doing some more digging, I checked the network connections in the control panel on my laptop, and it looks like I'm connected when I check the "USB tethering" feature on my phone but there is still no internet access. What could be causing this?
I've already checked the IP settings which are set to dynamic and my firewall is disabled so that's not the issue. I'm sure it's something simple but I can't figure it out.
Here's a screen shot of what I'm showing:
If you cant find tether manager in titanium backup then maybe try a factory reset and then see if it appearsjust to let you know our infuse custom roms tether and mobile hotspot far better then stock, and tethering manager is not included in any custom roms that I've ever seen.cm7 works the best for me but many of them work great ..trust me I play MW3 on Xbox live all night sometimes with solid connection.....read the stickies and FAQs in the dev forum if you want to flash some custom roms. Your missing out on some greatness
On my phone you have to connect and wait for about a solid minute before it works. Try waiting longer.

I have been seeing a lot about TB and am wondering how useful the pro version is over the basic version for a noob that is just playing around trying to find the best ROM to do what i want while still liking the looks of it. I am using a Samsung Infuse4G that presently hasCM7 installed. I use both Google's Play and the Amazon App store for my apps. I would not even be looking past CM7 right now if it allowed my Bluetooth to work as the tethering portions of it are great. based on all of this, which Titanium would be best and why?
Thanks,
Gary
Tether Manager issue
I have also been dealing with this issue. In some custom ROMs the tethering manager does not show up in TB so you cannot remove it. In others I have removed it and yet the tethering still does not work. This does get confusing for those of us that are not developers and are just learning how to root and load custom ROMs. Is there an easy way to tell if tethering will work before one goes through the process of downloading and flashing all of these different ROMs? I like CM7 the best, but it has no BT so I am looking for something close to it in function that has both.
Thanks,
Gary

If tetheringmanager has already been removed (which is the case for most custom firmwares), wifi tethering SHOULD work.
Tethering Manager
That is what I thought I was told, but it is not working. It still says you need a tethering plan from your carrier. Call 611 to arrange for one, or some such message. Is there something else that needs to be done as well? Also, what about USB tethering? What needs to be changed to let this work?

I was hunting around and found this thread and was looking for some answers?
And at the end of your question the thread just ? stops. did you ever get a answer to your problem?
Or did this thread get moved to a different folder?
I had been trying to help my SO get her recently (me) rooted infuse to tether so I got fairly familiar with how to do it. Not cause I'm an expert but cause I read the crap out of all threads.
It's on your phone and you just need to clk a couple more locations to get to it.
If your still looking to resolve it answer back in this thread.
I was able to do usb tethering on Aeon rom based on GB without 3rd party app.
1. Set phone to debug mode.
2. Settings>wireless & network> tethering and portable hotspots>check the usb tethering.
3. now i can browse the net on pc using data plan of my phone.
hope it will help.

Hi All,
How can I root a stb, running Android 6.0.1 with no access to bootloader.
I have access to recovery, but it accepts only vendor encrypted/signed update files.
Adb via usb is not available, but can connect using wifi/lan when OS has booted.
Have already tried most one-click apps.
Any crazy idea/help/suggestion is appreciated.
People interested in details, can read the long story below.
The Amazon Prime app on the settop box lags a lot many a times while Netflix and Youtube work perfectly fine. So, I thought of diagnosing the problem using adb logact and found every few seconds, few frames are getting skipped. To analyze the problem further, isolate bandwidth/resources problems vs app problem, wanted to root the device.
This is the first time, I am trying to root a device for which no existing solution is available. I have been trying to root for two weeks now, but no luck. . While the Amazon prime was the reason for this voyage, rooting will open new avenues.
About the device:
⦁ Sold by Airtel India under brand name Internet TV (Not IPTV)
⦁ Manufactured by LG Electronics. Model: SH960S-AT
⦁ LG has published the opensource components used here.
⦁ More details about the hardware here.
⦁ Android Lollypop, upgraded to Marshmallow 6.0.1
⦁ With March 2018 Android Security Update
Here is what all I have tried so far:
ADB
⦁ Device does not detect when connected using USB Male to Male cable. So, no ADB USB.
⦁ However, I can connect ADB using Wifi. (adb connect IP).
⦁ To be sure of the IP, I have configured my Router DHCP to assign a specific IP to the MAC
⦁ I found in default.prop persist.sys.usb.config=none. My assumption, airtel has disabled adb via USB connection.
Bootloader
⦁ If I do a adb reboot bootloader, system restarts but gets stuck on the vendor logo.

⦁ In that state, I have tried many possible key combinations (power button on the box, several other buttons on the remote and usb keyboard), but it stays stuck there, until you pull the plug.
⦁ I have also tried many button combinations in power off state, no luck.
⦁ USB is still not recognized in this state, so no adb or fastboot.
Recovery
⦁ Doing adb reboot recovery restarts the system into the stock android recovery.
⦁ The same screen can be reached by following steps:
⦁ Unplug the box
⦁ Keep the power button pressed, plug in the device.
⦁ After the android logo comes, press Home from keyboard.
⦁ The following options are available:
⦁ Reboot to Bootloader: Same as above, gets stuck on vendor logo.
⦁ Apply update from Adb: Since usb connection/adb is not available, it just waits for a connection and times out. Adb using wifi/lan does not work. I assume, their drivers are not initialized in recovery.
⦁ Apply update from SD Card: I have copied the usual (su binary update.zip) to root of sd card. But it does not mount SD card properly. I have tried SD cards of different sizes, formats etc., no luck.
⦁ Apply update from USB: It was not recognized initially, but after going through recovery logs and trying several formats for the card, now it recognizes the card. I can select the zip file, but it shows Failed to map file. I assume it is not finding a vendor specific signature/encryption
One-click apps and other exploits
⦁ Have tried all the popular one-click apps, Kingroot, Framaroot, etc., no luck.
⦁ Have tried dirtycow exploit. But since the security update is March 2018, none of the known exploits work.
⦁ I am yet to find any POC for fixes in April 2018 or later android security updates.
Update service:
⦁ One system app called OtaDownloaderApp.apk is probably used by the vendor to push OTA updates.
⦁ Pulled the apk and disassembled it to find the url of the update file.
⦁ Downloaded it to understand the structure and explore any other possibility.
⦁ It does not seem like a normal .zip file and might be encrypted.
⦁ I tried the above file as Apply Update from USB from Recovery, it installed the updates
⦁ Now, could there be a way to decrypt/modify the update file to include su?
To add: Since the device is yet to be rooted, no way to extract the boot.img and patching.
Let me know if you need more clarification in any points I have mentioned.

Thanks Umair, for going through the very long post. Breaks my heart, have not reached anywhere so far with it.
Yes, I have downloaded few other versions. All of them encrypted. AFAIK, Airtel does not have other products with android. 160 and 180 are different versions for the same STB: Build v 06.02.61 and 06.02.67 respectively. I assume all others will be other releases for the same STB.
Have also tried to use linkchecker to crawl through the site and explore more links. No luck, seems deliberately excluded from robot.txt.
Add: Wanted to check if the files are encrypted or just a new type of compression (e.g. Brotli). Opened few of them in a hex editor, could not find any common beginning or end. Leads me to believe, these are encrypted.

Sorry brother, missed the notification. Are you asking for the update service/app that i mentioned above? Or the launcher/tv UI app? Let me know.
As far as Freebox is concerned, it does share the same chipset, but the end product looks different. And Airtel probably has done customizations for bootloader and OS.

Well, as of now I have hit a dead-end, with no access to root.
Oreo seems a long way.
Yes! the remote does drain battery really fast. I remember observing in logs that STB tries to check the status of the remote, (such as battery percent, etc) at regular intervals. Don't remember the interval, but I wonder if this is normal/the best practice. This might be draining the battery fast.
We could look into its apk and probably try a patch, but then we wont be able to update it (assuming its a system app) without root.
On a different note, do you also face the following issues:
Remote stops working sometimes. I have to pull out and reinsert the batteries to make it work.
Voice search using the remote is so unreliable. It results in error most of the times.
Amazon Prime lags a lot, while Netflix and Youtube work smoothly. Prime app might be bandwidth hungry.

Hi all, I would like to inquire if it is possible to be able to root the Quest and introduce mods, launchers, optimizations and customization especially that it runs snapdragon 835 ?
Hi!
I found the security patch level of Quest is a bit old.
2017-10-05
Maybe we can use existing vulnerabilty to get root.

In addition, I found Quest have Qualcomm's EDL mode. By pressing vul-up,down and power will boot in EDL mode.
And Quest supports fastboot on USB Update Mode. but "fastboot oem unlock" needs unlock code.
I tried the dirtycow methods but I think that was patched out before this build, no success.
I also tried just running the usual commands to bring up USB Tethering, but that seems to need root as well. All I want is better ALVR streaming
fyi Oculus is unwilling to provide bootloader unlock codes citing section 4.1 of their Terms of Service, as being in conflict with the request.
I found this to be interesting.
I've began a support request to get the boot loader unlock codes and explicitly began requesting the GPL code (parts of Android and their Linux kernel source). This should give me a few options.
They may or may not decline giving me the boot loader codes. Not the end of the world.
They are legally obligated to give me certain source code for what's running on this device. Such as the linux kernel with the modifications they've made. If they don't provide this source in it's entirety, then there's some legal implications involved there. The first response from their support was pretty ignorant. They linked me to some download section of their website that only had developer SDKs, not the sources I was requiring of them.
Anyway, once I have the kernel source, if no bootloader codes are provided, I can begin scouring it for ways to elevate to root at least.

It's quite possible for the kernel to be the same. I'm going to await confirmation directly from Oculus. If it goes well, I get to unlock my bootloader on top of having the correct source. If it goes poorly, who knows. I might get to see what the legal side of the GNU GPL looks like.
I really want to audit the support for this device and software I own.
Not the same. The posted kernel for Go is Linux 3 while Quest is using Linux 4.4.21. They've built on Android, which means they're starting with a stock Linux kernel, I don't think getting their sources is going to clue us into anything that can't be known already; they'll just upload that same vanilla Linux 4 kernel source. The drivers they will use for practically everything are almost certainly closed-source. They don't have to provide their kernel configuration either.
Best of luck on getting the bootloader, though, that's the holy grail at the moment
Well, the dudes that I'm talking with finally provided kernel source:
https://github.com/facebookincubator/oculus-linux-kernel
It's the Quest Branch of the Oculus Linux Kernel. So we have something to search through for vulnerabilities.
I'm still talking with them about flashing the hardware. I'm not convinced that it's locked, because they seemed a bit confused what I was talking about. Having not touched phone boot loaders in years, I'm still doing my research into the bootloading stuff, since I'm only guessing that it involves a signature check at the moment.

The game files, if you mean the apk-files are generally stored on the internal sdcard and are available as movable USB storage. I don't think you even need to set it in developer mode to access the apk files. Anyway, if you set the device in the supplied developer mode it works fine. So there is no problem to load your own applications or backup downloaded games. SideQuest is a great application that simplifies this for semi-advanced users.
You can also use adb quite extensively and for example use scrcpy to dump the full screen output to a computer. Over all the Quest allows you to do most things you need.
But... The "problem" is that the Quest Android OS is locked and some things, mainly Ethernet over USB, have been disabled. You can stream video to the Quest via Wifi and play Oculus or SteamVR games that run on your computer fairly decent as it is now (using AVLR), but if Ethernet over USB was activated it could more or less replace a Oculus Rift or other wired unit completely. Oculus would likely not be happy with this since it would threaten their business/ market strategies, their segmentation of devices and the Oculus Store. But, that is why rooting the device would be interesting.
I've been finding holes to install the USB ethernet driver, but with no luck. Hope somebody will root the device so i can use either USB Tethering or a USB Ethernet device. Will even pay the person that can crack the device haha.
If I enter this CMD:
adb shell am start -a android.intent.action.VIEW -d com.oculus.tv -e uri com.android.settings/.DevelopmentSettings com.oculus.vrshell/.MainActivity
I can't even enable RNDIS manually, but that is logic since they just only added the WLAN drivers to the device.
Yesl
I just want to check that you've definitely tried plugging in a USB-C ethernet adapter? If you haven't I'm going to order one, plug in to the Quest and do lsusb.

guys if you use 5ghz wifi you get speeds way faster than you need anyway - I dont know why you so need to enable ethernet?
the quest has a better screen res than the rift as well. Games come up mint using ALVR
I use moonlight to stream normal non-vr games as well - also works flawlessly
however - one thing that doesnt work too well - if i am using ALVR to stream a VR game that uses a gamepad and not the controlers, i pair my XBOX gamepad via bluetooth and ALVR crashes every time.
When i use moonlight and the bluetooth gamepad it does not crash.
This means i can only play VR games which require a gamepad if i am in proximity to the PC itself and not anywhere in the house which is what i would like.
Has anyone found a solution to this "ALVR crashes with Bluetooth Gamepad connected" issue yet?
Quest Root - 90Hz possibility
With the quest link coming up and the fact that the Quest's OLED displays apparently can support up to 90Hz (Though they won't change it due to needing to verify it with the FCC), I'm hoping that that could be a reason for people to start trying to go for root! Especially with PCVR, a Rooted Quest running at 90Hz would possibly be better than the Oculus Rift S!
