[Q] Backup without Root - HTC One S

Hello,
I have searched through some of the threads and I wanted to see if I can get a clear answer if you can back up app data on the T-Mobile One S running stock. I have not rooted the device, but recently switched devices.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I've just opened a thread related to what I read about "adb backup" command. I'd be perfect, but I haven't been able to get it working yet.

I had read over that one but I wasn't sure if it would work. I will have to give it a try later and see how it goes.

I use clickfree automatic back-up
Works without root and can restore to any device. Try it.

[Q]

Hi all,
I'm an inspire noob running exist's 4.0.3 asopX version 26 and he recently said that he was going to update us to 4.0.4 for version 27. My question is can I back up what i have to the sd card, do a reset, then recover everything using 4.0.4? Or will i need to do a wipe and manually put stuff back on?
thanks
As Long as the recovery you are using is compatible with your backup, then you can restore it with any Rom you are running. Backups from CWM are not always compatible with 4EXT recovery and vice versa

OK. Got it. Thanks a bunch

I don't think glevitan understood your question correctly, or maybe I don't. I took it you want to back up your apps and such, not the ROM version itself. And to restore everything back on the 4.0.4 version. This has nothing to do with clockwork or 4EXT recovery.
If he releases the 4.0.4 ROM as an update and does not require a full wipe then just install it over top of the 4.0.3 ROM. Most of the time the DEV requires a full wipe though.
Usually it is best to do a full wipe and restore user data with a backup app like Titanium Backup. But you only want to backup and restore user apps. Restoring system data can really mess your ROM up severely. Google contacts will resync when signed in.

haha Now that I see your reply I guess that I didn't get what he was asking...well, he will come back and get what he wants or will ask again...
I will say, no matter how inconsequential it seems, DO. NOT. RESTORE. SYSTEM. DATA. between major android versions. Let me refine that. I back up my playlists using Titanium Backup. I figured this was an insignificant thing and restored it when I moved from CoreDroid to aospX. Firstly, it didn't restore my playlists; secondly, I had to factory reset the phone < 1 day later.
That said, I WILL be restoring playlists and contacts going from AR26 -> AR27. I'll report either here or in the dev thread if it causes problems, but I have 6 g(mail | apps) accounts plus my FB account, and it takes me a considerable amount of time to get the duplicates regrouped.
Hope I helped. BTW, the free version of TiBU is pretty good, you just have to confirm every install. To me, it was worth it to get the pay version so that I could restore all my apps without confirming every one (right now I have 45-50, that's a lot of confirmations). It's also nice to be able to back out of a buggy new version of an app, or to be able to go back if you don't like the new version (I'm looking at you, FB.)
oh i see now. looks like i really lucked out cuz i flashed AR27 and his 4.0.4 then did a recovery. I thought it was a bit odd that it still said 4.0.3 so I came back here. Doh! okie dokie. I'm redoing a wipe and clean install and I'll just push all of my apps back from my google account.
Thanks for all the pointers about Tia Backup

Young, check here. Remember to thank the OP.
I really appreciate all the help guys but I've flashed both the InspireMod 0.5 and the one you both provided the link for. Unfortunately it still doesn't record sound. I am trying to send a message via MMS by recording it. But when I push record it gives me an error of Internal Application Error. I'll try downloading different apps to see how they work. Its just kinda odd the stock recorder doesn't work
Thank you all for your help.

Huh. I'd tell you to check with eXistz in #aospx, but he's away most of the time.... it's like he has one of those "life" things or something.

You should have placed this in the ICS Q/A thread. Do NOT use the development thread for questions. thats why the restriction is in place, so people learn the ropes a bit before they are allowed in there. I would redownload and do a full wipe and reflash. And try to record your mms BEFORE you put all your apps and stuff back on there. Need a clean environment before you can dig deeper into this. Only thing you should put on after installing is inspiremod before doing your mms test. Id love to help test with ya, but i always remove the default mms apk from my phone :/
OK. Now I know. Which messaging app do you use?

rooting 4.0.4 and other questions

Greetings
I'm new to this and I'm trying to root my skyrocket in order to uninstall some apps from my phone like NFS and other at&t apps and I read in order to do that I need to root my phone. I read some tutorials about how to root my phone but they are for version 2.3.6 and I'm running version 4.0.4 . So my question is can I use the same files or is there one for the version I have. And my other question is how I uninstall the apps I don't want after rooting. And I also saw something called super user which u can download after rooting from the market app. Can someone please tell me what is the use for that. Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the reply. I went through this sticky before but it did not answer my questions. I'm trying to find out what us the best method to root my galaxy skyrocket for version 4.0.4. Not 2.3.6. Now if that doesn't matter please confirm. Also I didn't see on the link you put where it tells you how to delete the apps after rooting.
Thanks in advance for real help
There really is no best sense it is. Subjective plus rooting for 2.3.6 works the same. As for deleting apps i use titanium backup though u might want to freeze apps instead of deleting them. Just my opinion on that though

So you are saying I can use the same usb software and zip file to root my phone. Just want to make sure that what you meant. I tried to search for root 4.0.4 but didn't find any straight forward toturial.
And thanks for the tip regarding titanium.
If ur using odin yes there are other methods but they should still translate over. My advice before u try it look on youtube for step by step instructions (just search for how to root skyrocket) also use google search there are some nice websites out there for our phone plus google search picks up xda better than there own search does. If you don't want to brick your phone do as much reading and watching how to videos as u can. I read as much as i could for about a week before i rooted but i was also looking at roms

The sticky IS straightforward! All you do is flash cwm in Odin, and then flash the su files in cwm. Titanium backup is used for uninstalling bloat as well as backing up apps+data for when you switch roms. In ics you can freeze apps without root so TiBu (titanium backup) isn't as necessary for uninstalling bloat as it used to. Also, most custom roms are very debloated any way. Upon rooting superuser will automattically be an app on your phone. SuperSu is used to replace it in some roms (some prefer it). Read, Read, oh and btw READ! The sticky was created to prevent meaningless threads such as this. Some take the time, read it and if they actually have real questions then they ask. You are not one of those people.
I wasn't going to answer any of your questions and simply flame you, but I thought I would be nice this time and answer your questions. The long weekend saved you

[TIP] Backup and restore apps and data using adb!

Thanks to tbriden for this thread, which is basicly this, I justed wanted to share this with you guys as well.
You can now backup and restore user data and apps using adb! You don't even need root, but I'm using it even though I have root because MyBackup doesn't seem to like Jelly Bean too much. Head over to the link above and check it out

[Q] Noob Root Question...

You can't uninstall apps in /system through the usual method. You need to use an app like Titanium Backup to do it.
Couple questions:
What firmware are you on?
Do you have superuser or supersu?
If you are rooted there are several ways to get rid of the bloatware.
Let see if we can get this done for you.

Cool. Titanium backup is the best way as described above. Also exfileexplorer will work if you know what you doing. Make sure if you haven't flashed a recovery to do so. And please please please make a back up in recovery in case deleting something messes your phone up. If you need specific help? Feel free to pm me.

Bought Phone from Craigslist- Is it Rooted?

I bought this phone from Craiglist, and I want to find out if the phone is rooted. Also if it is rooted, how do i unroot it? Another thing, whenever i try to take away a screen by pinching two fingers the phone turns black, and doesn't respond for about a minute for saying unfortunately thouchwhiz has stopped working. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks a lot.

I did, when i first ran the app something called superuser was asking for permission and i didn't grant access. And i ran it again, and this time granted access, and this time it said congratulations this device has root access. I guess it means it's rooted. How do I unroot it.?
Unrooting would be super foolish. If you wanna unroot, get an apple device.

First find out if its ICS or gingerbread ROM. Than look around the blaze dev. Pg., and read-up on the great ROMs available. Follow instructions to the T when installing whatever you choose and make sure you create a backup in cwm FIRST. Happy flashing
Flashing another ROM will fix the touchwiz thing, you don't need it unless you really want it.

I uninstalled superuser app and now it shows that I don't have root access. I fixed the thouchwhiz problem by just using the go launcher app. Now the only problem is that I want some of my tmobile apps back like mobitv and Polaris office. Is the only way to get them back just by getting them from the play store?
Two choices: get it from the play store (if available) or follow the instructions chjema posted. It flashes the original build and will get everything back as if purchased new.
