Hi Guys,
I have a D2G unlocked thanks to another member who was kind enough to assist me.
The situation now is I am currently in the USA and have a German chip in the phone. I believe it is not working as it is band locked to Verizon in the USA.
From what I read have to band unlock the phone but to band unlock I have to root first. Problem is there are so many rooting methods I am getting somewhat confused.
So my D2G is Android Version 2.3.4 and System Version is 4.5.629.A956.Verizon.en.US
Could you tell me what steps I need to do to get the band unlock?
Thanks in advance.
I think I was able to root my phone successfully. I followed all instructions and used USB boot.
Is there an easy way to confirm I have indeed routed my phone?
Thanks

I've got my atrix rooted running android 2.3.4 and am looking to unlock it to use with t-mobile. I'm not trying to pay to get it unlocked if theres a free way, but I will if i have to. Also if I unlock the bootloader and use a custom rom will it automatically be unlocked? I've searched and couldn't find any info. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Lets say you found a free SIM unlock for the Atrix and use it for T-mobile, the phone will only get 2g because it doesn't support T-Mobile’s 3g bands 1700/2100. (technically its the 1700mhz band that the Atrix doesn't support).
Hope this gives you some insight.
Honestly anything will work for now. But thanks dude, learned something new
Oh and bump
you might have found this already if you continued your search but
pudding

Hello,
From what I have read if I understand correctly if I root the verizon droid 2 global, then install a custom rom the phone will be unlocked and I can use any provider outside the usa.
Can you confirm if this is in fact correct?
Also I live in Florida but have a german cell phone with a german chip that I use here in Florida. If the above does unlock the phone, when I put my german chip in the phone will it work in the usa or do I need to also do the band unlock first?
Thanks
JB
No. Custom ROMs don't support the SIM unlocking mechanism of the D2G, nor they disengage the SIM lock.
You have to unlock the device with an unlock code to use it with SIM cards that aren't Verizon-issued.
Thank you for the information.
I guess there is no way someone can shoot me a bone and provide the unlock for free since ive been a member for 3 years? It would be appreciated greatly...

The unlock code is specific to each handset, so no-one has one that they can give you.

It should be sim unlocked out of the box. Have you stuck a sim in the phone and tried to add Telus APNs?
The only root exploit available for the VRUDNE1 4.4.2 OTA is to use Towelroot. There is no bootloader unlock available for this OTA which means there is no chance for AOSP nor downgrading the firmware to anything prior to 4.4.2. Safestrap is available but you would only be able to dual boot another VRUDNE1 based rom, nothing else.

Of course it didn't, the sim card would belong to the previous owners phone number etc. You need a sim from your carrier with your info, phone number etc. See my post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=58582227
Hey guys, I'm new to rooting. The wondershare Root tool didn't work for me. I have a feeling it doesn't work for my model, and looked through the forums here but am very overwhelmed of all the threads.
Can someone help me determine if my phone is rootable? And if so, how to implement it?
It's originally from ATT, but now with Flash Wireless for Tmobile.
