Anybody know of a good app that enables me to turn the screen on/off using the light sensor? I want it so that when I close my case, the screen turns off, and when I open my case, the screen turns on. I tried ProximityScreen, didn't work at all. thanks for any help!

Thats the one I already tried, I installed the pro version, and it said that it couldn't find the proximity sensor, so I changed it use the light sensor and it still didn't work.

It puts the device to sleep after the case has been closed, similar to the iPad 2's magic case, but this app uses the light sensor to detect the amount of light after you close the case.

So if you suddenly turn off the light in the room, it will shut off the screen?

Not necessarily. You can configure the light sensitivity in the full version, and you can also use other sensors (such as proximity and accelerometer) to activate sleep

Somewhat. The light sensor is weak so I have to turn on accelerometer sensing and shake the crap out of it to get into lockscreen. But I am unrooted and it says it needs root to work perfectly, so I'm going to root and try again

Hello all,
I'm a nexus s user for a few days now and this problem is really bugging me.
When I play a video the hard keys lights wont turn off. My last phone (Acer Liquid mt) cut the lights after a minute.
Is there a way to solve this?
You would have to root your device, then use ns tools to change the back light timeout. Because it does not do that stock.

After you root it, you need a kernel that supports bld (back light dimmer) not all kernels support this mod.

I have the device rooted and the kernel support BLD.
I try NS tools and BLD Control and cant get the lights to turn off.
Just use the back light dimmer in ns tools. Then set the time to 0 if you want it off so it won't turn on. But there is no setting to turn the back light off during video though. Hoped this helped.

Hello,
Is there any app that turns on and off the screen like the ipad when using the cover?
I've been using "Cover Lock" on my 7.7 which working perfectly.
But it's not working on the Note 10.1 because there's no proximity sensor on the Note.
Please recommend the app that working.
Thanks.

I am using "proximity screen off ", the free version. you can change the screen off time, auto screen on, etc, and it works with the light sensor. Pretty nice.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexnor.gravityscreenofffree
This app uses your phone's motion, gravity, and proximity sensors to automatically turn on and off your screen so that you don't have to press any keys (software or hardware).
For instance, when I put my S4 inside my pocket or holster it to my belt clip, the screen turns off automatically. When I take the phone out, the screen turns on automatically as well.
I've tried a few apps similar to this before but this one just works very well and consistently.
I already installed it on my mom's and wifey's S2s and they love it too~! Just wanted to share the goodness~
Wow it is pretty impressive! Thanks for sharing. .

No problem. I figured there must be others who will find this kind of app convenient to have around. I just love not having to press the home or power button every time I want to turn the screen on.
Any hit on battery performance?

The author of the app said to expect a hit about 5%. I've been using it for 2 days now and I haven't noticed any difference so far. But then, I'm running on the ktoonsez kernel with -50mV, all-around.
Freekin love this app
Thanks for the heads up op! works like a charm, now I've got to get used to not pressing my power key on wake
****'ll Buff Out
Sweet app....I noticed I had to lower the sensitivity while my phone was in my mount while driving. The screen kept coming on.
Nice catch. Love this app.
This is exactly what I was looking for!! Thanks for the find!

Very nice find, bought the pro version right away, this is awesome but does anyone knows if there's something you can do so when you put your phone face up on the table it lock it without waiting 5 secs?

The only time the screen turns off on me when I don't want it to is when I text and I accidentally rest one of my fingers over the proximity sensor by mistake. Otherwise, it's been good. I wish there was a time-delay option for proximity sensor to turn off the screen so an accidental finger covering up the proximity sensor doesn't turn off the screen right away.

I see. It's an extra step but you could pull down the notification menu and pause the app before gaming then turn it back on afterwards. My mom tells me that sometimes when she's watching Netflix, the screen turns off on her. I told her not to cover up the sensor but she just disabled the app.

No. I got 4x for 16 seconds in 12 hours. But for as awesome as this app is I can live with a 5% hit any day!!

Thanks! This fits the bill, the other drivers on the road thanks you too!
According to GSam battery monitor, Gravity Screen Off is responsible for only 0.2% battery drain. I haven't noticed any extra drain because of this app.
Have a LED anywhere?

Apparently there's an LED that only lights when the battery is too low to power up. I've never seen it.

if you have to have it (I like the active notifications better), you can use the xposed module Gravity Box to cause the buttons to flash with notifications. I'm sure there's other options that do the same though, but you run the risk of losing battery a lot faster (hence the purpose of active notifications)
There's an led on the back that's used with the camera....

I like this answer, and I appreciate it. I also like the fact that you were not rude even though you were really thinking deep down inside that I was too ****ing stupid to know that there was an LED on the back for the camera. :sly:
