My wifi keep dropping in public places (school, starbucks) and when it drops, it wont reconnect right away...it just display saved. Any solution to this problem?
Try this: Tap the saved connection, click forget, refresh and then try to reconnect. Works for me.
Don't know how to prevent it from happening, though. Mine keeps refusing to connect to anything else if there's a saved connection in the area until I tell it to forget the saved network. Highly annoying, but manageable.
Thank you for the input ..im going to try it next time my wifi drops signal.

In Android, I noticed that my data connection is lost from time to time. The modem application (the one that always comes with our builds) shows me this message when it gets disconnected:
PPP connection went down.
Done.

Well, I think that when this happens, the connection should be reestablished again, but it is not. This way Gmail is not receiving e-mail anymore. To solve this situation I have to go back to Modem, press Disconnect and Connect again. Then, after some seconds, it connects again.
This task is very tedious. Is there any way to keep the connection alive? or to reconnect after it is lost?
Thanks!!

I tried the Feb 14th zImage and initrd.gz from the HTC Android Sourceforge repository on my Orbit 2 (Pola 200) and had quite a stable PPP connection. I think there's some changes in initrd.gz that deal with pppd.

Check out the application KeepConnOn in market...I believe it does exactly what you needed.
After trying the app, I confirmed that it doesn't fix this behavior.
Sometimes the connection is active, sometimes it is not. Isn't there any way to reconnect automatically when the connection is lost like in Windows Mobile??
PLEASE! This is a major problem for me, mainly for Email receiving.
Is there any way to reconnect when the connection is lost? It's terrible inconvenient, because you may think that you are receiving mail messages, but you actually aren't. Suddenly, every access to Internet is impossible and I've got to go to the modem app to disconnect / connect. After 10-15 seconds, the connection is established again...
It happens really frequently! Help me, please!

After installing any rom, my wifi is transferring data very slowly. I check the region code for the wifi and it says europe. So i try to change it to United States and i shows my router but doesn't allow me to connect to it. Also usually under my router name is says (wep, or wpa) what kind of security it is and it doesn't show anything underneath of it. When it randomly connects it goes at 2kb per second. i have 30mbs internet. it has been happening on every rom i install, can some please help me. Thank you.

Happened to me a few times with my old Nook Color. What I did back on ICS to fix the problem was remove the network from my remembered networks on the tablet and remove it from the router as well. When I reconnected, it was as good as new. Hope this helps.

I have forgotten my router name numerous times. It has connected now but is extremely slow. I have a fast internet provider there is no reason my tablet should be this slow. When i got to disconnect and reconnect it doesn't want to connect to my router.
Hey, guys I just got my Pixel 2.
I connected it wifi but it keeps losing it. Only if I reset my router it will keep the connection for a while, but somehow when
I get to work or in the morning the same issue appears again. It connects but when I go to an app which requires wifi it drops.
I tried to change the channel but didn't work as well.
Restarting the phone won't help either. I also don't want to factory reset it since I want to keep all my data etc. I don't want to go all that bs.
Maybe I should have stuck with a new iPhone after all. Sorry for that comment, but I'm really frustrated
I don't want to give it back or some ****, I just want to fix it easily so I can move on. I hope I get some advice here.

phone ::: Go to setting > wifi > advance > If there is Freq option then change it to 2.4Ghz
router (in case no option on phone) ::: go to Wifi setting of your router and disable 5Ghz. I can help more If I know model of your wifi router
:good:
I'm having the same exact problem as OP. I thought for a second I wrote the post. Would love to see if there's a solution. I don't see the option to change frequency in wifi settings. And this issue for me occurs on different WiFi networks.. so it's not just one router. Ugh!
Exactly the same issue here, which is what has lead me to this thread. It often happens that my phone switches to mobile data suddenly while working absolutely fine on Wi-Fi. I have tried almost every basic solution but condition remains the same. Also during that time it stop showing me my (saved) Wi-Fi in the Wi-Fi network available, while at the same time my same Wi-Fi is connected to all the other devices in my house. This needs a fix.
still no fix

Is Bluetooth on? This is what is causing my WiFi to be very unstable......
Well, day 2 and first problem. Phone connects to my work wifi but I get no internet connection. My other phone is connected with internet connection at the same time. Both phones have same settings afaik
WHEN YOU GET YOUR NEW PHONE, CHECK WIFI/INTERNET SERVICE ON ALL OF YOUR USUAL NETWORKS.

Sounds like a local ip conflict or something else on your router side not a problem on the phone side. Did you follow the basic rule and restart the wifi router?

1 It is not my router; it belongs to my employer
2 My OnePlus 6 is here too and connected to the internet
3 All of my coworkers' phones are connected to the internet
So the phone works fine on your home wifi? It could still be the router. At my business if it has not been restarted in a while, new devices will not connect as too many ip have been given out since last restart so no more will be able to connect.

That does nothing as the router has an IP stored for that Mac address currently. It's not renewing it's lease, the router just sees it as the phone has disconnected and reconnected like it does every day you go in. If the phone cant connect to any wifi then it's a hardware issue. Otherwise it is more than likely a network issue with the router.

Sooo, I had a similar problem on Wednesday when I got my phone. During setup it wouldn't connect to my WAP (DHCP). No matter what I did on the phone it wouldn't connect. I went into my networking equipment settings (Cisco everything) and reserved it an IP. Worked. Thing is, sometimes I open an app that requires Internet, and it just spins. Or music won't start playing, whatever. I turn off then back on my WiFi and it's fine. I'm going to reboot my networking gear tonight and un-reserve the IP, see what happens. I REALLY hope this isn't a hardware issue on my phone. I'll be pissed if I already have to get a replacement.
Also, restarting the phone doesn't fix my issue with no Internet, only turning off then back on the WiFi. Might be something worth trying.

Oh yes I tried that too
I spent 20 minutes with a Google tech and nothing worked
The WIFI performance on P3 and XL is not good. My old ass S5 outperforms both by a large margin on 2.4 and 5. My home router is high performance Turris Omnia. The pixels sometimes drop wifi completely in the bedroom 20 ft away (with horsehair plaster walls). In the driveway the S5 and Nexus 10 have solid connections and I get nothing from the P3 XL. This issue might be the last straw. WTF Google?
Check your WIFI connections before return window expires.

My work it department enacted a rule whereas they want to know every device that is on the network so I have to submit a network address request and give them my Mac address so they can allow my device access to the wifi network again. Maybe your work it ppl are doing the same thing. Maybe work devices are allowed by default.
Also my p2xl wifi reception is weak... I'm about to get a wifi mean network setup so I can get better coverage throughout my house.
My phone seems to be working better the last couple days. I had some problems yesterday, but it ended up just being YouTube Music. Also, my network speeds are great. Even when I was having problems a lot, my link and Internet speeds were up at the top of what my gear offers.
To anyone having, or has had problems, submit feedback on it from your phone. Maybe Google will see it and do something about it. I'm really hoping for a lot of fixes in the November update.
My IT department solved my issue by resetting the system.
So i know this is a widespread problem because im on my 3rd pixel 3 and i have exactly the same problem on every one.
When im at home wifi is on but half the time it isnt connected, but as soon as i poke about on the wifi settings it connects. Its like its in some kind of sleep mode or something. I end up using all my mobile data whilst indoors a few meters away from the router! Ive had a pixel 3 since it came out and just cant seem to fix this problem.
Please tell me its a well known problem and some one has worked out a fix
I have not had that problem, but you may be able to reduce the mobile data usage by turning off "Switch to mobile data automatically" in Settings, Wi-Fi preferences.

This is no a known issue and if you're on your 3rd pixel i don't think had anything to do with the phone. It's most likely an issue on your router side. Have you tried resetting it?
Are you by chance using WiFi which is configured as hidden network? This is typically done by checking the checkbook next to "do not broadcast SSID" checkbox.
If you are connecting to such network, there is a setting you have to check while setting up that WiFi connection. It is hidden in normal dialog and so it is easy to miss. This was the root cause for similar issue I have seen on my Android devices including Pixel.
Im not using a hidden network. The weirdest thing is whenever i notice its not using wifi as soon as i pull down on the screen at the top it will connect. like its been caught out lmao. was using the phone just now, an alert comes up to tell me ive used 2gb of data. so i pull down on top of screen and theres an x on the wifi icon, its on but theres an x (probably means not connected to anything) then a second later it connects. i dont click on anything it just connects whenever i pull the top bar down to check. its been happily eating my data while on sat in doors but as soon as i check that status it connects! its damn crazy!
This is exactly what it does every time without fail whenever i notice there is no wifi.
Fix your router bro

The x on the wifi icon means you are connected to the router, but the router is not connected to the internet. Like everyone else, I think you have a router problem. Rebooting the router may help, but it may be time to replace the router.
Where are you located? It could be that your internet is unable to ping google servers. I have that issue whenever I clean flash, but I am in China so that is why.
This is not a widespread issue and as almost everyone has said, you have a router issue. It's possible that your router "sleeps" when nothing is trying to use it but that's just a guess. My suggestion, get a new router.
