Help for Root on VZWS3 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Been trying to get root on a VZW S3
I have done the entire ODIN process, installed CWM and when I start the phone it has a unlock on the Samsung boot up screen. When I try to flash the rooted img zip file from CWM it just says failed, I tried several root zip files and can't seem to get it to work.
Can anyone point to what I'm doing wrong??
Thanks in advance!

Go to section two of droidstyle's guide and follow it to a T.

Try this then. Go to section 6 of his guide and follow those instructions using the "Rooted Stock VRALF2(Root66)" download. That's pretty much how you'd recover from a soft brick so it should work for you also.

The most common mistake is that you were in the wrong directory when you typed the command.
Let's assume you haven't edit the PATH environment variable, the easiest way is to copy the recovery image into the same directory as fastboot.exe. For example, in my laptop fastboot.exe is located in C:\android-sdk-windows\tools and my recovery image is named recovery.img, both files are in the same directory (C:\android-sdk-windows\tools).
Plug the phone in, reboot into bootloader mode, open the Command Prompt and issue the following command:
Code:
cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Please remember to change the directory in the cd command and recovery.img file name to the correct ones.

Help with Serendipity Flash

This is the first time I have flashed a ROM. Followed the instructions from the website, but stuck at this point.
Flash Rom with CWM. What is this step? Sorry, but didn't see this for the infuse.
Thanks
its really that simple, assuming your coming from stock. place the Zip on the root of your SD card
Get into CWM Recovery choose the zip to install
and Flash, that should be all you have to to get this on your phone.
How do I know I am in the root of the SD?
What is CWM?
I put it on the SD card. I am at the Samsung Recovery Utils. I am hitting reinstall packages. Is that not the correct one?
Thanks for heling a newbie

Cwm is clock work mod, you get there by holding both volumes keys and power button when rebooting.this is the way you have flashed before right?

i'm sorry, but this is stuff you need to learn on your own before messing with your phone like you are about to do.
the questions you are asking are the most basic questions that you can possibly ask about flashing a ROM - they are not specific to infuse.
any guide you pull off of google regarding flashing ROMs on an android device in CWM will give you the information that you are looking for.
i recommend doing the requisite research, and making sure you know exactly what you are doing, before flashing anything. otherwise, you will brick your phone, and you will make another thread asking how to unbrick the phone.

[Q]rooting problem

Hello,
I have tried to root my sensation device, I used a guide to do that(forum didn't allow me to link cause I'm a new user), and everything looks fine, my phone says s-off and everything looks alright, however I tried to use titanuim backup, said it requires busybox, installed busybox, says "the su binary was not found on your phone", installed superuser, and tried to update the su binary, and it fails at "checking current install path" and I hit a wall. where have I gone wrong?
also I accidentally hit the SIM lock option on bootloader screen, I don't know what that does, so is this bad? and if so how I fix it.
If you have guessed that I'm a noob, you're right, I just got my first android phone a month ago.
come on people, give me something
reading more on the subject, i'm trying to redo installing recovery described in step 2 here as I said yes when the revolutionary utility asked me to..but the link is dead, so if anyone has another link..
also is it ok to do that? running another recovery..

Perform step2 and step3 in revolutionar s-off guide.
thanks for the answer.
Is that the same guide that I referred to? if so the links are dead and I can't post there yet. if not can you provide a link to the guide you mean.

Yes that page . An older version of recovery is attched on that page. It can be downloaded here.
Now,
1. Copy the PG58IMG file into the Root folder of your SD card (The main Folder of your Memory Card)
2. Turn off your phone FUlly and reboot into the Bootloader/HBOOT screen
3. Press Volume up to Accept when it asks" Do you want to start the update"
4. Press Power Off
5. Delete PG58IMG from your memory card
6. Reboot
Alternatively ,
If you have fastboot and adb setup on your pc then download the recovery from here.
Then flash it by the following command in fastboot
"fastboot flash recovery your-recovery-file.img"
After flashing recovery download the flashable su binary from here.
Put it the root of your sdcard.
Flash it via recovery.
Now you are root.
Note: **** If you get installation aborted while flashing su binary , do toggle signature 3 or 4 times . Then try again ****
oh thank you very much, you've been a great help, I'm now rooted, now onto trying to install a new ROM, god help me
try using the guide on the cyanogenmod website! It's the one i used and the one that seemed the most helpful
I've searched there for a while but couldn't find one, could you provide a link if its not too much trouble?

installed CM12 and lost root and recovery

Hi chaps, yesterday I had an update (CM12) on my rooted OPO and after having done the update I lost root (which I knew I would have anyway) but, surprisingly I also lost TWRP, which is rather unusual. So now, my question is, do I have to go through the whole rooting procedure again as detailed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632 (procedure which, incidentally, I followed the first time I rooted my phone last year) or if not, what should I do? What steps should I skip?
thanks

See this thread, someone with a similar problem, pretty easy to sort if you're near a PC. Just remember to boot back into recovery, before rebooting fully and also turn off the 'update cyanogen recovery' option under developer options.

Thanks mate, had a very quick look, so essentially the answer is yes, I have to go through the whole procedure again and do it either through the procedure in the first link or in the second (with the toolkit)
thanks

You just need to flash a custom recovery via fastboot or using a PC tool. You can then flash a superSU zip to get root.
Cool thanks. OK so I don't need to unlock the bootloader, I can just go to step 2 in here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632

Your bootloader is still unlocked, so no need to do that again.
Ah brilliant, thanks for clarifying that!

Confused - A checklist.

So, this is my first time flashing an Android device. I've been reading and searching for two days and I think I have most things in order. Let me check this is what I need to do and in the correct order to flash Cyanogenomod Marshmallow.
Unlock bootloader. (Haven't found a guide for this yet)
Flash latest TWRP (I'm guessing this will be done with Odin?)
Then I can proceed to copy my images and wipe/install them as per the guide.
This place is extremely confusing. There are guides left and right for everything under the sun and figuring out which I'm supposed to be using is a minefield. I just wanted to check I'm on the right path here as my head is getting a little cabbaged with it all.
Thanks!

You mean gt-p3100?
You won't need to unlock the bootloader, just update the bootloader or the firmware to Jellybean
choose any one of the above method.
2. Download respective recovery from android andi webpage espresso3g means files meant for GT-P3100 device model.
3. take Nandroid Backup from the custom recovery.
4. follow the Respective Rom Instructions mentioned

You're a star pal. I'm already on Jellybean so I assume I can skip that part? And that recovery is exactly the file I downloaded earlier, so it's good to know I was on the right track! I'm struggling for how I actually install the recovery though?
Your assistance has been very appreciated mate.

Detailed step by step instructions here that should be the same way, just put the newer recovery .md5 file :good:
this is one of my very detailed guide that has all my knowledge compiled about our device that you may find useful. it's a bit lengthy but should be a good read.
Absolutely throwing me here. Installing the latest TWRP doesn't seen to alter anything at all. Everything goes through fine. The only thing I can wonder is in the guide you linked it says "Make sure Re-Partition & F. Reset Time are unchecked" but the images with the guide always have F.Reset ticket. Should it be ticked?
I am right in thinking TWRP should show a new custom menu when I boot to recovery aren't I?
Your guide is an excellent reference point btw. This is great for me starting out, thank you.
