I'm pretty excited being a Motorola fan, but wonder if this'll help Intel take off at all. The switch from ARM architecture could be a pain too many for devs

From my naive point of view, this seems very exciting. Finally, some competition to ARM, and able to get 2ghz, none the less! I know very little about how Atom compares, though; hopefully the experts will get a good look at it.

Pretty good specs, though I doubt I'll buy it. Next thing I'm buying is GS4 or Note 2.

Funny how this gets less attention then the previous moto launch. I think this launch is more ground breaking.

True. This is pretty ground breaking.

I'll either get this or the Razr HD Maxx. Now it just depends on the level of developer support.

Fantastic Phone
I am amazed with the spec. 2GHz.... Netbooks are barely 2Ghz. It's not about how many cores, but the rate at which it processes data, which perhaps might be better than any Quad-core phone out there. This might be my next phone [if it comes to my carrier].

I wonder if Ubuntu will jump on this opporunity to run on X86 phones instead.

GPU is kinda dissapointing

Would it be possible, at least in theory, to install and run Windows XP, 8 , Ubuntu or any full-fledged x86 OS on this phone? I wonder since it's an x86 processor, and it has everything it needs to comfortably run a full desktop OS...

^ I wouldn't bet on that. Windows would need an ntfs/FAT file system as opposed to extX that come on these phones, but could THAT be done? Well, only time will tell...

Thats what I'm wondering, but if it has a locked bootloader it may be hard to do. If someone could port a GRUB style bootloader it may be possible. But I don't know how Windows would react to a non IBM-PC style system which lacks a traditional BIOS. It would probably be easier to get x86 Ubuntu running first since Android is Linux based.

I too am considering this phone as a replacement to my old HTC Desire.

Here are the most in-depth reviews that I've found so far:
Techradar
Expertreviews
Cnet
It's looking like quite a solid mid-range priced phone.
A few critical thoughts so far:
I'd like to be able to customise the lockscreen apps, at the moment these are fixed to: Camera, Messages and Call.
I'd like to be able to access quick settings from the Notification bar so I don't need to close an app to get to these.
I'd like to be able to auto focus the camera by half pressing the dedicated camera button.
Needs the latest Android version ASAP.
4G LTE would be nice but I can understand that's asking a bit much at this stage.

I have the original razr xt910 and im moving to sgs3 and will never buy a moto phone again no matter what it has or good it is I'm done with moto.

Good Luck, Happy Bidding!!!
it's kind of ugly to me...it looks like a game console hhaha
According to PDADB.net the 6500 has the qualcomm MSM7200 graphic controller http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=734&view=1
maybe we can get the graphic drivers from it
uh i wouldn't even take it for free. it's really ugly

Point taken. Maybe the license is for a single model. Can never say with the big corporations. I mentioned this as I saw it on www.pdadb.net that it uses the graphic accelerator provided by Qualcomm.
Looking at how the TomTom software runs,
I can say its a lot more smoother than the TyTN in that infamous youtube video
( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIJWAu6IRe4 )
I'll try and compare my Hermes with the Sedna tonight and get it up on youtube when i get back from work if you guys want.

HAHA. I'm glad I'm not the only one.
its not that ugly! may be a bit bigger than the usual pda...
I had it in my own hands at Cebit in Germany and it's really huge! You can't compare it to a standard-sized modern pda-phone. It's rather a barcode scanner-sized pda and one of the ugliest I ever saw. The technology is nice though.

It all depends on the licensing terms. Its possible that HTC has the rights to install the drivers on a certain number of model because of what they paid. If they paid more for the license, they'd probably be able to get it on one more model.

I'm fairly certain the reason behind the no-drivers thing is actually Broadcom. Their patent (link: http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/6847686.html) over video acceleration in mobile "convergence devices" is the source of an injunction (pdf link: http://www.broadcom.com/docs/press/12-31-07_Permanent_Injunction_Order.pdf ) against Qualcomm. The injunction specifically names the MSM7500 and 7200. Qualcomm would only make the situation worse by releasing software that enables these features when it currently isn't even enabled. Is the P6500 being marketed in the US? If it's not, maybe that's why they're enabling the acceleration in it and not other models.
honestly i dont think it is being offered in the us, the only retailers i have found -- all coorporate btw--- have been from italy and from the u.K (branded to the 0range network i think). I have also heard of it being sold in india aswell.

[Q] Choosing an Android phone w/ keyboard: Desire Z/G2 or Droid 2 or other ??

I have to change my phone and my only req. is a hardware keyboard.
I've been a hardcore, diehard Windows Mobile user for over a decade.
I feel forced to go Android because WP7 smells sort of iPhone-esque clone (no file access, no multitasking, no cut/paste, etc...)
To my surprise, I've found there aren't quite a lot of Android devices with keyboard out there
Fortunately, I've seen a couple of interesting soon-to-be-released phones:
The HTC Desire Z / T-Mobile G2 and the Moto Droid 2 WE (world edition) / Milestone 2
Both will have Froyo 2.2, 5MP cam 720p HD video rec, 3.7" multitouch screen & all the standard shizz
G2 / Desire Z advantages:
- It is HTC
- It has Sense onboard, which I am familiar to
Appart from that, and curiously enough, the Droid 2 / Milestone 2 is better in every other aspect:
- Better screen res (854x480 vs 800x480)
- Faster processor (1000MHz vs 800MHz)
- More internal memory (8GB vs 1.5GB)
- Slightly smaller size (60.5 x 116.3 x 13.7 mm vs 60.4 x 119 x 14.2)
- Lighter weigth (169 gr vs 180 gr)
- Slightly bigger battery (1400 mAh vs 1300 mAh)
- Better flash (dual LED vs single LED)
My Q: Which one to go ?? or is there any other device to consider ??
Any advice / oppinion / suggestion appreciated

Adreno 205 is going to perform better than PowerVR SGX530 found in Droid X. It may even get pretty close to PowerVR SGX540 found in Sammy's Himmingbird.
Watch out for this table, I'm sure someone will load their Quadrant result as soon as it becomes available:

If only. It would be the almost perfect device. What have smartphone manufacturers got against big screen qwertys anyway!??!?
(yeah I know there are a couple but, only a couple! The Z's screen is too small so I don't count this. Samsungs Galaxy S Pro? The Galaxy is being slated due to bugs)
edit: I have to be honest though, i'm waiting for WinPho 7 as it appears, walled garden aside, that it could integrate very will with Zune and my Xbox subscription. If it launches and has full and complete MS Ofice/Exchange integration then its very possible I will jump straight on to a Dell Lightning - assuming it records 720p.

Microsoft's quad-core tablet

So M$ flashed a quad-core tablet at the TechEd conference. Early previews of Windows 8 running Tegra 3 perhaps?

Move over, dual-core Galaxy Tab. Microsoft's got a quad-core tablet in its arsenal.
Microsoft is currently holding its TechEd conference in New Zealand and where there's a conference there's usually a whiff of upcoming products, too. TechEd hasn't disappointed us, either, as Redmond this week gave attendees a sneak peek at an upcoming Windows tablet that's packing a quad-core processor.

ZDNet reports that during the company's “Windows device session,” Microsoft Enterprise Strategist Jeff Johnson talked about the company’s tablet strategy and offered those in the audience a glimpse of two upcoming Windows tablets. The second tablet is said to have been thicker than the first and boasted a removable battery, but that's not really much to go on. The first tablet, however, Johnson described as a quad-core Windows slate that the company plans to announce at an upcoming Microsoft event. He didn't say much else, but it was enough to set tongues wagging.
This event Johnson is referring to is thought to be Redmond's BUILD conference set for next month and the device in question is believed to be a Windows 8 device. There's also rumors that Microsoft will be giving units away to paying attendees at BUILD so they could develop apps for Windows 8. September is just around the corner, so stay tuned!

That's a lot of assumption on a product that's not even out yet. To be honest, windows7 actually runs pretty nicely on regular tablets (not slates) but it's just not finger friendly
this is going to need a lot of battery power?

did you actually read the article?, the devices will run quad core processors, and im sure microsoft has a slimmed and tuned version of windows 8 especially for the tablet devices to further improve it, and real drivers so everything will work
windows 7 runs well, it clearly outperforms windows xp on 800mhz cpu powered netbooks and i know this from personal experience with several netbooks.
windows 8 should be better,MS will most likely use win7 as the base with a finger friendly ui over the top kinda like media centre maybe.
i have been waiting for a real windows powered tablet for a long time, i hope they get it right.
if it has quad core its probably something designed by the likes of intel. please correct me if im wrong, but something to do with how a tegra and the likes (qualcomm, etc) design there chips means they only work with linux based kernels. they use ARM architecture or something??? which i believe windows won't run on, please correct me if im way out, im a little rusty on all this stuff, but yeah...

M$ should've bought up the team behind Rainmeter's Omnimo series to design the new Windows 8 touch UI.
Windows file explorer 8 is everything but touch friendly. The ONLY thing touch friendly is the home shell with the panels.
Windows 8 will support SoC with ARM instruction set. And Windows 8 is the first step of mobile/tablet OS consolidation

Never. But iI'm against generalizing. For example, Oppo or Meizu have great devices.
Try buying hdc galaxy s4
Sent from my GT-I8190 using xda app-developers app
I would but the htc one it is by far best phone on market right now
it will be Panasonic P51 or Huawei Ascend D2
Google it for more spesification..

Both phones soooo sweet, but im in South Africa, so those 2 will cost me a small fortune. For instance I bought a 2011 Macbook pro second hand for about R3000 and each of those will cost me close to R5000 and up, not to expensive considering the Galaxy S4's price, but yeah the wife and daughter is in the front of the line each month. lol.
You can look HERE for info. This is the one I'm using now, Very happy with the performance. The phone is one 3 days old and I've yet to explore it features.

I received my phone in 2 weeks time and good working condition. However, the spec of the phone is not according to what I've placed. The OS is 4.2.1 instead of 4.2.2 (latest) and phone is also not rooted.
After emails, I've a 4.2.2 from their tech-support. Managed to flash this on my phone and also done the rooting process.
For this company, there are good and bad comments on their style of running. I buy from them as I can use paypal for payment. If things turn up bad, I can always ask for a refund.

Elephone Vowney, MTK6795, 2K Screen, 4GB RAM, Android 5.1, 20.7MP Camera, 4G/LTE

A new high-end flagship is on the way from Elephone - the Elephone Vowney with Windows/Android OS.
It combines elegant design with super specs.
Elephone Vowney is their 2K Flagship 2015. Because of the pretty high specs, the price is also expected to be a little higher than we normally see from Elephone, but the price ratio should be okay.
The model comes in 2 versions. Version A or B. The model offering either Windows 10 or Android 5.0 Lollipop
The specifications:
- 64-bit MTK6795 CPU Octa Core
- Windows/Android OS
- 5.5 inch 2K (2560 x 1440) resolution display
- 4 GB RAM + 32 GB ROM
- Firmware Android 5.1
- Support for 4G/LTE
- Support for microSD cards
- 20.7MP rear camera + 8MP front camera
- Equipped 3850mAh battery
- NFC
- Press touch ID
- Android 5.1 (Lollipop) OS and CM12 Support
- Colours: Black, White & Gold?

I wonder if Version B/Pro will really come with a Moorefield SoC, because not even the ZenFone 2 has a Windows 10 ROM and I think the Imagination GPU doesn't have drivers for Windows.

This would be amazing if true but exceedingly unlikely: perhaps an Atom X5 doesn't generate too much heat when crammed into a phablet-sized device? I'd pay upwards of $400 for a developer-friendly phablet with Intel HD (Broadwell/Gen8, not PowerVR) graphics. I've been waiting for a Linux-friendly Intel powered phone since before Bay Trail, and I may still be waiting a year from now unless my above fantasy pans out.
I've got Elephone P7000, it is good phone, I am really looking forward to Elephone Vowney phone.
What is the weight of Elephone Vowney
Hello,
I got confused about the weight of this phone, on website says it is 650 grams, then it will be very heavy to carry. So kindly somebody can explain some details about the exact weight of this otherwise excellent mobile.
Is the chip ' 64-bit MTK6795 CPU Octa Core' processor is faster than or equelent to Snapdragon 810?
Thanking You
Dr.saidalavi
I dont think windows rom support is correct. its not memtioned in the highlites
Am wondering about the cm12.1 support. Does this mean the sources will be out?
would be cool if the device tree is reusable to build a pletora of custom roms. Then this can have a device forum right?
would be awesome.

dunno about its power efficiency though. may perform better but suck more juice.
for me the lte support would be important as well as custom roms capability

I saw the weight on website but I saw specs on other sites and it shows 169g. I don't think it could be 650g which more than half kg
Assalamu Alaikum(Peace from to all), my friend from Pakistan,
I am not differentiating the members of this forum according to their nationality, but for an Indian it is special when a reply comes from his Pakistani brother, that is all
Thank you very much for the reply,
When I read about the weight of the phone in one website, I had a bigger smiley of course on my face, and I thought it may be wrong also, as nobody can carry such a phone with them.I want to confirm it before ordering , otherwise the spec as so impressive, so I am waiting for its release. So your reply is a great assistance to me.
Thanks

How good is Elephone at putting out updates? Any feeling on how long it will take Elephone to upgrade its phones to Android M?
Sir I told you about the weight. It was mention 650g maybe because of auto correct or spell mistake. I confirmed the weight which is 169g. You can order the phone which is going to release on 20th june.
stay happy

the updates are frequent and quicker because they don't have millions of customer like samsung. If they give M upgrade then you will get before Samsung S6 pretty sure.

1 - 2 months to update a firmware, I don't know whether Elephone will release Android M firmware.

I just noticed on elephone.cc that it's now saying the 20th of August for the release date. I suppose that makes sense, at least for the Vowney Pro/version B (the one that dual boots Windows 10 and Android) since Windows 10 isn't supposed to be out until the end of July anyhow. I really hope the Pro has an Atom X5 and US LTE band support, because Elephone is the only OEM so far that has gotten me this close to being excited about my dream x86 developer phone finally being made!
Well, most preliminary information I've seen indicate that this phone will have an Atom Z3580 SoC, which contains a PowerVR GPU. Since I'm unlikely to ever get a phone, even a phablet, with tablet-class graphics, let alone one that has open source driver support for running Linux, I just gave up on getting this one and ordered myself a 64GB/4GB RAM ASUS ZenFone 2 ZE551ML, which should be arriving tomorrow. It may even be cheaper than importing a Vowney Pro at this point. I of course would love to be wrong.
Elephone Vowney is Elephone flagship phone?
They have a dedicated page for it now: http://www.elephone.cc/elephone-vowney.html
I wish it wasnt soo big! I want a 5.2" device....come one people!
they give a discount to the people who bought one of the first 5000 elephone p8000 without led.
Did we know anything about, did we know when it will be out?
Doesnt look like this will work with ATT due to bands right?
How is Windows going to run on that SoC?
